- rdrysdale, on 06/11/2009, -1/+49So, it's 2001: A Space Odyssey with Sam Rockwell? I'd see it!
- bkraj, on 06/12/2009, -3/+46I wish this movie wasn't a limited release; I'd love to see it.
Maybe the internets will come through with a copy at some point so I can actually see it(HINT HINT INTERNETS). - Cannon13, on 06/12/2009, -0/+23Great recipe for success: Make an amazing movie then release it in only two cities.
- umbrae, on 06/12/2009, -0/+22Saw this movie at Tribeca Film Festival a month or so ago - it was ridiculously good. They used very little CG throughout - it was done old school mini-model style, to tremendous effect. Really great character development with a good bit of the ol' mind-bending thrown in. Awesome.
Definitely go see it if you get the chance. - bkraj, on 06/12/2009, -0/+18For you guys burying me, the closest theater to me that is showing this is a 7 hour drive, and that's only after it expands July 10th. So going to see it in the theaters really isn't an option.
- ThecNiqueMan, on 06/12/2009, -0/+17Bowie's in spayce!
- sonordrums135, on 06/12/2009, -0/+12I saw this at SXSW and it was awesome! The effects were pretty obviously done on a low budget, but the story (despite only having one real actor) was mindblowing... Go see it if you have a chance!
- cyrix, on 06/12/2009, -0/+10How do you know he won't do such a thing? I got a copy of Sunshine from TPB because there were only two theatres in my state that were showing it, and neither were remotely close to me. I watched it. Waited for the DVD release in the states, and bought a copy. Same thing with Shoot Em Up, and quite a few other movies I have in my collection.
- takamalak, on 06/12/2009, -2/+11So basically... everything?
- MrScotchBoy, on 06/11/2009, -2/+10This actually looks pretty interesting...
- Fabbyfubz, on 06/12/2009, -0/+8The only similarities between the two movies is the computer/robot and that it's in Space...
- Nydendarin, on 06/12/2009, -1/+8"Moon". not "New Moon" you unibrowed, sparkle-loving, brainless fanwhore.
- canudiggit123, on 06/12/2009, -1/+8GTFO
- KokomoNYC, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6"How do you know he won't do such a thing?"
I suppose I don't. Point taken. If that's what he does, then no harm no foul. I just don't want to see the selection get worse and worse because good films go unsupported. Especially good sci-fi films (I liked Sunshine too) which have a big audience in the tech-savvy crowd. - Darwyn, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6here's a trailer:
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/moon/trailer - cyrix, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6Just glad that we both can realize that not all piracy = lost sales. This seems to be a huge talking point when discussing this topic. In some cases it's true, I'll admit that. I have several daft punk albums I got through torrents that I don't rightfully own, but I've been searching high and low for a legitimate source of several remix and live albums just because I WANT to own them.
And yes, Sunshine was a superb thriller as far as I'm concerned. While being very predictable they managed to merge sci fi with the usual murder mystery pretty good while not going off the deep end into the supernatural. - nurbsenvi, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5"Look around; can you construct some sort of rudimentary lathe?"
- e36wheelman, on 06/12/2009, -1/+6Choke, the film, was disappointing.
- rswelling, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Clint Mansell always hooks me with his soundtracks, he's top notch. Add Kevin Spacey as a somewhat creepy AI voice and I'm sold...so what if it borrows from 2001, let's see the whole story before condemning it that route, what I saw looked great.
- shanidachine, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5Im keen to see if this movie pulls through.. and the director won't be known as just David Bowies son
- dn11, on 06/12/2009, -1/+5warning - trailer seems kind of spoilerish
- ManUnitdFan, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4Choke, the book, was awesome though.
- KokomoNYC, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4I agree on both points. I think it's too early to say for sure what effect piracy will have on digital work. I think most of the people who pirate are part of a tech savvy crowd, and don't make up a substantial portion of the population of movie goers and music lovers. There are some trends that might be taken as early signs. It troubles me, for example, that Virgin is shutting down all its stores in New York, though that might have more to do with the recession than anything else. People don't seem to be buying CDs anymore, and that surely is mostly a result of being able to buy songs online, but piracy may have contributed.
People will point to the Wolverine movie as an example of piracy not harming a movie's gross. What kind of worries me is that the technology of piracy doesn't seem to be user friendly and available enough yet to go beyond the initial adopters. I don't know to what extent the pirates and patrons overlapped for the Wolverine movie, but I suspect that a lot of that movie's gross came from non-pirates. As piracy becomes more accessible, user friendly, and popular, it might be as big as YouTube, moving beyond the tech savvy and into the masses. That worries me a little since I'm sure we can probably agree that there is likely a substantial portion of people among "the masses" that would not think about the long-term implications of pirating a piece of work and never supporting the producers.
Of course there are so many factors and trends at work here that it's hard to know what to think. - jordanlgta, on 06/12/2009, -1/+5You didn't include an exclamation point. I don't believe you.
- ThomasJason68, on 06/12/2009, -1/+5A much better clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhIB0mqbPiE
- megaton, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4I was just going to comment after watching, "So... this is 2001... with Sam Rockwell."
I'm down with it. I just hope that it's able to transcend that label. - dn11, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Look cool, just hope the computer isn't the villain. Because, uh... It would be obvious, cliched - a bit more than an "homage" I'd say. Hope I'm surprised.
- DThatsMe, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3I'm incredibly excited for this movie.
- baysidecomedy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3This movie is amazing. I saw it at the SF International Film Fest and its was awesome. Go see it.
- luke374, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Here are the other release dates:
http://www.sonyclassics.com/moon/dates.html - warplayer, on 06/11/2009, -2/+5Choke in Space. Cool.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Anything would be better than this constant stream of crap on today. Does Gerty make Sam his bitch?
Gerty; "You have not been Yahooing much this week."
Sam; "I hurt my hand."
Gerty; "Make me a taco, Sam." - evergrim, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Imagine how awesome it would be to have David Bowie as a Dad. Even better to make a kickass movie and make Daddy proud too.
- jeremyadam, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Sam Rockwell as an astronaut and Kevin Spacey as a robot sounds amazing.
- leonardutah, on 06/12/2009, -1/+4Duncan Jones, the director of the film, is David Bowie's son. It literally is Bowie's in spayce. Pretty freaky bowie.
- TM22, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Man, I seriously can't wait for this movie.
- greevar, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3No, this clip has more dialogue than 2001 ever had.
- daeus, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Theres not enough of these types of movies...
- heaintheavy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Are yer nipples hard, Bowie?
- GoKings, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2I can't wait for this movie. It's been finished for a while, release the damn thing!
- sanman, on 06/12/2009, -2/+4Looks more like a slave employee for a ruthless mining company who keeps dying and getting cloned over and over again, in some ugly Sisyphian loop, while the friendly computer remains a witness to it all.
- Protonz, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Trailer looks better than this clip though.
My first impression from this clip was that the human was an irrational moron, and the only suspense would be created by him ignoring obvious things like burning his hand. Seems like a poor way to develop drama.
And the robot sounded too human, I could picture the human reading the lines more than a robot speaking.
The trailer looked interesting though. - warplayer, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Disappointing, yes. But it wasn't a bad film by any means. It was good for what it's worth. I have a friend who doesn't read at all and I always knew he would love the story of Choke so I was happy to show him the movie. As expected, he loved it.
- jer21, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Zaphod?
- alexdrod, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1Then the rest of us outside those cities download the movie.
- KarateMedia, on 06/12/2009, -1/+2I thought this was going to be the Keith Moon biopic.
- nitroburn, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1I'm pretty sure you meant to say "stoop down" not swooped down.
- nurbsenvi, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1"Miners not minors"
- MacEnvy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Wow, that looks fantastic. I hadn't heard of this movie until now - it looks like it could be really great.
- matticusf1nch, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1How much longer til this movie is out of Limited release. Me wanty.
