I remember watching the X-men cartoons as a kid, and it showed Wolverine's origins. In that, he teams up with Captain America and fights Red Skull in WWII Germany. That was long before he got the Adamantium skeleton and awesome claws.

At the same time there's a guy running around somewhere in spandex throwing a shield at nazis.
