- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+61I know it's a teaser, but this actually looks funnier than Cars.
- Millan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48Pixar has got to be THE BEST animation studio there is. Everything they do is top notch!
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47Hey man, I know you're spamming to get a webdesign job, but you suck at it man.
- antisthenex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I wonder when Pixar will finally make a bad movie. Honestly, I don't see it coming. I mean, I thought Cars was a stupid idea, but hell, they did it. They made a damn good movie from that.

Was that a joke? It's a joke right? Please, someone tell me it's a joke. - antisthenex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Well...they're wrong. That movie was great.

i literally laughed my ass off when i read that.. aided by the pathetic webcam of a motionless bee. - breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18IRON GIANT!!! One of the greatest animation films of all time! If you haven't seen it, go watch it, immediately.
If the same guy who directed Iron Giant is directing this movie, then you can count me in. - goorioles747, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17looks good, i like what pixar has been doing
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I can already see it now...
"Rataouille takes 24 hours per frame. Amazing!!" - Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+163 things:
1. The animations looks slightly different from the traditional Pixar films.
2. They just started rendering it yesterday so it'll be done by the time it comes out.
3. It looks awesome. - yichen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You mean Ratatouille needs one year long to render? .....
- modian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13voice of Iron Giant = Vin Diesel.
Believe it or not. :oP - wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I watched iron giant when I was younger -- brilliant movie. Hugely underrated.

Direct 1080p download for viewing in VLC. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Pixar has been quite 'legendary' in the way they make movies appealing to just about any audience...Disney used to be like this, but lately they have been pushing too much. I was watching Aladdin today and there's so much hidden humour that adults laugh at while kids just giggle.
And that's what Pixar does...make kids laugh while keeping adults amused and laugh at the hidden humour...
anyone remember "Okay Buzz Lightbeer"? - kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Absolutely, Iron Giant is a classic. Beautiful film in every way.
- floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Rendering in this movie looks absolutely outstanding. I thought Cars was rendered good, this is one upping anything out there already.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"You mean Ratatouille needs one year long to render? ....."
Rendering these types of films takes a looooooong time, my friend.
A single frame can take up to 10+ hours.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/How_Pixar_shaved_9_hours_frame_off_rendering_Cars - Opelious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I agree. Nothing will top my first impressions of the Incredibles, but this looks like it could be pretty good.
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11And the main rat's voice is obviously Spencer from the King of Queens tv show.
- digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratatouille
Ratatouille is a traditional French Provençal stewed vegetable dish which can be served as a meal on its own (accompanied by rice, potatoes, or simply French bread), or as a side dish. Tomatoes are a key ingredient, with onions, zucchini (courgettes), eggplant (aubergine), bell peppers, and a bit of Basil. All are sautéed in olive oil.
The name of the dish appears to derive from the French touiller, to stir, although the root of the first element "rat-" is unknown. The word ratatouille has also come to be used in non-culinary contexts in English to refer to a (generally colourful) mixture of any kind. The odd name of the dish commonly pops up in jokes about rats. - daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Iron Giant was the only movie that has ever made me feel sad for a robot :("

While everyone else in Pixar's supposed target market generally pulls off vapid, Disney Channel-esque fluff that only really appeals to the tweener crowd, Pixar's unique ability is to make audience-scalable content.
The kids can cheer for Mr. Incredible while the adults can nod contemplatively at the objectivist undertones (or even just appreciate the fascinating architectural and industrial design pastiche).
Can't quite say that for the likes of "Herbie Reloaded"... - BlackSheepx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Patton Oswalt.
- dustko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8kensavage, your bee looks sick. Give him some food/air/water or release him :(
- degree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Iron Giant was the only movie that has ever made me feel sad for a robot :(
- ckohler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion in January. John Lasseter, the director of Cars (and Toy Story, etc.) is now the head of Disney animation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yea, you don't want to be like one of these sad guys, venting their rage on digg posters.
- Hypersapien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Umm... Disney OWNS Pixar now. Hopefully Disney will take the 'hands-off' approach and let Pixar do it's job -- making good movies.
- konspence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Doesn't Brad Bird also do stuff for the Simpsons?
- Enitime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"They don't use super computers, just thousands (3000 for cars) of servers rendering one frame each."
That's how super-computers work these days. - streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Not only does Pixar have a portfolio of fine films, but I think I'm not alone in the belief that The Incredibles was, among its brethren, rare platinum in a hall of already lustrous gold, a true masterwork centerpiece of Pixar's cinematic artistry.
With Brad Bird at the helm again, though, that honor among honors may once again shift... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Disney "bought" Pixar like Apple "bought" NeXT - Apple didn't so much buy NeXT as much as they paid them to save them. The case seems to be the same here. Kind of weird that Steve Jobs was in the middle of both those deals.
- gavroche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5*but since they've earn billions of dollars, why don't they build some super-computers to shorten reder time?*
its a super-computer that renders it! - warning9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Incredibles was an awesome!
- flashinfected, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nope, its Patton Oswalt. Definitely.
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I don't like the concept behind Cars ... Ratatouille looks interesting.
Funny, i was just reading about a 10 minute long 3D animated film called 'One Rat Short'. It looks really cool. It's a serious film and there's no voice acting.
http://www.oneratshort.com/ - ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Err, it's 10 (now 1) CPU hours. Spread across their entire cluster, it can render somewhat fast :P
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lol
Yeah... the one that *requires* flash.
Quicktime is obviously the lesser of two evils. - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3just saw cars and it was amazing, aimed more for boys, but girls will love it too
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6cool, my dad was the lead background artist in The Iron Giant
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I never saw The Incredibles but I actually heard it has the most adult humor than any other Pixar movie, so why wouldn't any adult enjoy it.
- card2570, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree.
I saw "Cars" last night, and in my opinion it surpasses "The Incredibles" VISUALLY. I really can't put into words how beautifully animated this film is. Most of the suqences at night are PHENOMENAL, especially the trip Lightning has on his way to California. I can't say this strongly enough. If you have one shred of interest in animation in any form, go to see "Cars" simply to be drenched in the beauty that comes from the obvious love and skill that is poured into each frame. There are times I just sorta said "Wow!" or "Holy @#$" under my breath when you realize that you are still looking at animation and not at freaking 70mm film.
As to the subject matter? "The Incredibles" has it crushed. How in the world do you compete with Superheroes? The gear heads, especially south of the Mason-Dixon line, I would think, are going to appreciate it as much or more than all of us who love Marvel and DC and the like appreciated "The Incredibles". The adult humor is here in this film also, and my son laughed harder in this than he has in many movies lately.
It still has messages like the other Lasseter films, and I for one, appreciate the main message that the movie attempts to convey, as I try to slowly introduce my 9 year old to the same concept... Life is about the journey, not the destination, and if you don't stop, think, and look around as often as you can, you will have lived, but you won't have really had a *LIFE*, and you will have most likely unintentionally hurt others in the process.
Sorry for the "Cars" opinion in the Ratatouille thread, but the trailer was at the start of this film (Looks incredible also!) and I thought it was at least mildly relevant considering the things that some had to say about it. - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not to mention the frequent Marvel comic book references.
A lot of adults grew up with Xmen, the Fantastic Four an a few other things that were referenced as a part of their childhood. Shame they didn't do too many DC parodies though, the only ones I could spot were Syndrome (Batman-esque with his lack of powers and technowizardry and Mr Incredible, who is like an early Superman, but then again, super strength is such a generic super power these days . . .)
I watched The Incredibles earlier today, for ***** and giggles, and I have to say, the amount of subtle references to Marvel were somewhat amazing, like Syndrome's computer being in a similar setup to Cerebro, or the majority of the "supers" powers (Elastagirl, Violet, Dash, Frozone, the dead guy Mr Incredible hides behind, all have powers identical to Marvel characters). Things like that are just great, and the same sort of thing appears in what I consider "modern classic Disney" (I think it was the movies from Beauty and the Beast until Mulan or Tarzan) where there are a lot of subtle references (and not so subtle) thrown in that kids wouldn't get, but adults would get a laugh out of. - themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah! Awesome. I wasn't to stoked about cars, but this looks awesome!
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. I haven't seen Cars -- I'm not part of the Nascar crowd, so it doesn't seem interesting to me, but I'll probably catch it on HBO.
The Incredibles and Monsters Inc were gold, however. This one has potential as well, though it does look like the most "Disney" of all their films. - vtwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Good food is so hard to find".... In the world at large.
"It's so easy to find good food"... In Paris.
Context...remember... context... - thehans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it now a pixar tradition to keep voice actors names secret even after the first teaser is released. I just checked out imdb and there were no actors listed for Ratatouille. I remember this happened when the incredibles teaser came out. People couldn't tell if was Craig T. Nelson or the guy from Cheers.
