Without giving away too much, it's the first book in the series where the threat Harry Potter faces actually feels like a real, *intelligent*, multi-faceted one, as opposed to Harry and friends worrying just about broom soccer and a bullying blond kid with a boss shoehorned in at the end.

The 6th book has been out for some time, and yes Dumbledore did die in it. He was killed by Snape. No Harry didn't die, but how else is she going to end this series? - attention, on 10/12/2007, -31/+1in the 6th book harry dies and ron takes on the resposibility of killing voldemort
