- killerstache, on 02/29/2008, -2/+90Does this mean we'll finally get a Freddy vs Batman movie?
- mweflen, on 02/29/2008, -5/+83Whoopee. Now give us our F-ing LOTR on Blu-Ray already!!!
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -4/+62This is just sad, this was a movie house that was not afraid to make things other than mainstream recycled crap. New Line Cinema will be missed.
- TheVigilante, on 02/29/2008, -7/+59In my defense, I've been reading slashfilm from before they ever appeared on digg. This popped up in my Google Reader and so I dugg it.
- Ub3rg33k, on 02/29/2008, -2/+51Inaccurate.
1. Warner has always owned New Line, this isn't that massive of a change.
2. New Line will continue to operate as a separate studio. They're consolidating backend office people and doing a little bit more coordination with releases between WB and NL so that they don't end up releasing competing movies at the same time. - inactive, on 02/29/2008, -2/+43Yay for monopolies!
/s - noahhoward, on 02/29/2008, -0/+34Did I miss he new law that said companies no longer need money to survive?
- joshuajonah, on 02/29/2008, -4/+34Rich get richer...
- TheVigilante, on 02/29/2008, -2/+32Firefox + Ad Block Plus + Google Reader for many sites = What's an ad?
- isaactwito, on 02/29/2008, -1/+28New Line has produced some incredible stuff over the years. Here's to you, New Line.
- ahoyhoy, on 02/29/2008, -0/+23I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE, NEW LINE!
- tnatharik, on 02/29/2008, -3/+24No.No.No.
- akilleen, on 02/29/2008, -2/+23I was almost expecting..... NOM NOM NOM!
- robschraer, on 02/29/2008, -0/+18what the *****?
- mweflen, on 02/29/2008, -1/+17Uhhh... yeah. WTF was all that BS?
- Dr3w, on 02/29/2008, -2/+18Hopefully other suits in the movie industry will see this as a wake-up call. Let the director make the picture, you just bring the money.
- Hraes, on 02/29/2008, -0/+15seriously, how the ***** did they go under so fast after making so much money on LotR
- Ryosen, on 02/29/2008, -0/+13Seriously, who gives a crap? So they're trying to make money off of their site? Big deal.
Unless you know of a magical land where writers grow on gumdrop trees and servers drop out of a unicorn's ass, STFU. - Ihatenicks, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12WTF??
Death to one of (if not THE) best movie studios ever opened, just because their logo reflects the tech of when they began?
YOU BRAINDEAD *****!!!
New Line, you will be missed.. you gave us variety. - Hraes, on 02/29/2008, -0/+10DIGG THE POOR MAN UP HE NEEDS OUR HELP!
- ElectroOverlord, on 02/29/2008, -3/+12Next Movie is "Lord of the Looney Tunes"
- exscind, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9I think most folks commenting don't realize that WB and New Line were already part of the same parent company (Time Warner).
This could actually turn out to be good news, provided New Line maintains their creative identity. - jos22, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9wasn't newline always apart of warner after all it new line cinema a subsidiary of Time Warner so it not like anything is really gonna change
- TheSabre, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9Why would you buy an imcomplete box set? What are you going to do for the last two movies? Buy them individually? You should have just waited a few years and got all 7 in one box set.
- skrizzy, on 02/29/2008, -2/+11So now will we see more or less ***** remakes of old ***** films?
- penguinpc, on 02/29/2008, -0/+9They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!
- cyrix, on 02/29/2008, -0/+8Go away.
- Jayeugene, on 02/29/2008, -1/+8Shea Lebouf? Is it really you?
- Davers, on 03/01/2008, -0/+7I always remember the new line logo as a kid on the beginning of Home Alone.
- DarkYang, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7Making the Golden Compass... I loved the books, but damn, they ***** up when making it into a movie.
- LtCarter47, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7So, what does this mean for me, the average movie theater attendee and DVD buyer?
- JayKeaton, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6Since when was Golden Compass a failure? It made it's budget back overseas alone, any American earnings were just gravy (and it was originally an overseas book in the first place).
- Braindead360, on 02/29/2008, -1/+7It the land of Hollywood, in the fires of Mt. Doom. The Dark Lord Warner forged in secret a master studio. And in this studio they poured their cruelty, and their malice, and will to dominate all silver screens. One studio to rule them all!
- NSMike, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5LOTR fans started hating them because of the whole PJ fiasco. Don't think that put them under, but the bad press probably didn't help.
- saxreturns, on 03/01/2008, -0/+5Tell it to your mother, she'll probably give more of a ***** about your wall of text than any of us...
- NSMike, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5The entire His Dark Materials series is quite popular overseas. I don't understand why it hasn't made it here, it's a damn good series. Probably because everyone thinks it's so "anti-religious," but you know people, you don't have to accept the author's beliefs to enjoy it.
- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5blessing, I think I love you!
- tryangles, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Actually WB has had a minority stake in the company for quite some time. I worked at WB for a few years and we were very tied into their infrastructure already. This is not a take over, it's something that was already bound to happen.
- smithmw7, on 02/29/2008, -1/+6New Line isn't going away at all. It will still be branded as New Line, they are just merging operations
- ahoyhoy, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4The CAPTCHA crack seems to already be at work.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4Indeed. Anyone who buys an incomplete box set is a ***** retard. I won't even buy boxsets if I think there is the remotest chance another movie in the series will come out... Like say Indiana Jones.
- dillibob, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4i hope so
/sarcasm - kaifanun, on 02/29/2008, -1/+5 I thought New Line was always part of Warner Bros. They were subsidiary of Warner, now they are just going to operate under one brand.
- kingUssop, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4Probably that control of New Line will get jerked around a lot, they'll be even less successful, and maybe shut down eventually. Corporate mergers are hell.
- teh_techie, on 02/29/2008, -2/+6Is it so hard to ignore them? I've been ignoring ads for a long time. Sure, maybe they plant the odd subliminal message in me, but who the hell cares? Just tune them out the same way you tune out fugly chicks walking down the street.
- exscind, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4Jackson's been back on board to produce for awhile now, with Guillermo Del Toro directing. However, we still need the dust to settle between New Line and the Tolkien estate before we see it happen.
- teh_techie, on 02/29/2008, -2/+6Shia LaBeouf...
- PixelMagic, on 02/29/2008, -1/+5Ninja Turtles FTW!
- exscind, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Not exactly, but you're on the right track. WB and New Line member brands of parent company Time Warner. It appears New Line will retain their brand identity; but business operations (could be things like marketing, distro, merch, etc) will be consolidated.
Sounds like it may turn out something like the Universal/Rogue relationship. -
