- VSack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39To clarify, the icon of "Bad Robot" in the beginning refers to Abrams' production company. Those of you who watch Lost, etc. will see this at the end of ever episode.
From what I gleaned off of the net after coming home from Transformers, this is Project: Cloverfield. Its a movie that is basically all under wraps, to the point that even Paramount has denied its existence.
For the most part, its assumed that the movie is a "Monster" movie shot from the perspective of camcorders. Whether or not this is true for the entire movie, is something that's really just a guess at this point.
It would definitely be interesting to revisit standard plot devices and see them from a different perspective. I remember thinking Orson Scott Card was somewhat of a genius for writing "Ender's Shadow" as a companion book to "Ender's Game"
Dugg for Abrams' ability to deliver a kickass trailer. Dugg because his production company consistently keeps us guessing. And Dugg for the fact that it took me a good ten seconds after this trailer hit to remember that I was here to watch Transformers, a movie I was waiting to see for years (and it was worth it!). - LessThan3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32I thought it might be Godzilla too, since in the trailer they are talking about a guy leaving for Japan. Might have been a subtle clue there or something.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32A screengrab that shows the monster more clearly:

- scslmd, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26This trailer appeared before The Transformers... I turned to my brother-in-law and remarked that it was a really cool trailer!
Apparently people took out their cellphones and recorded it... now it's on Google.

- coldfusion1970, on 10/11/2007, -5/+25I thought his next project was StarTrek?
- sgglynn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23Come on people, It's JJ Abrams, even if you see the whole movie when it comes out, it still probably wont explain what the ***** is going on in 90% of it

Any bets Henry is the name of the guy with the video camera? - Barr08, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16*Codenamed* Colverfield, no name has been announced
- operand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Bad Robot is a Production company owned by J.J. Abrams and is shown during each Lost episode.
- rholloway, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13The man in black fled across the desert and the Gunslinger followed.
Now THAT'S going to be something to see. - thundacracka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Why oh why am I such a gimmick whore?
- droversoul, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9And my dog's name is Ben! It all makes sense now...
- alphex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+91. Its just keeping us running in circles.
2. Godzilla, or, more aptly, Gojira.
3. Someone heard roaring, some one said they saw a lion, in vocals of the trailer... dare I say Voltron? - punchinelli, on 10/11/2007, -7/+15Well, after seeing the first 5 or 6 episodes of Lost, I was wondering what the monster was - but hey, now that I know it's still not revealed yet after like 60 episodes, I can rest free!
Thanks................................ - maracle2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7you cant digg twice, but you could sure as hell double comment
- slochewie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Whatever it is, it's big. I'm no metallurgist, but I imagine it takes quite a bit of force to rip off the head of the Statue of Liberty and use it as a bowling ball. My initial impression was Blair Witch Godzilla.
- Neem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I wish I could dig you up twice.
I agree with everything you said, very strongly so. - Jerim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7One thing I noticed, is that the "fireballs" in the trailer seem to be coming from below the tops of the buildings. So probably not a meteor movie. Could be an alien invasion movie. I hope it isn't a monster movie. I have never been a big fan of monster movies, and with a trailer this innovative, I expect something extraordinary.
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6If you think Lost is a mess... you haven't been following it. Many of the questions about lost have already been answered before the questions were proposed. Lost is probably the best TV show I've ever seen (my opinion).
- GutterMoo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I liked The Host, it was kinda weird, but when it launched the people with its tail, hilarious. I will also say that I HATE when the US remakes Japanese movies. They just shouldn't do it. The US Zilla was horrible. I also heard rumors of a US version of Battle Royale, I'll bet they use college aged students and make it the worst movie in the world. Leave asian movies alone!!! Reading subtitles is perfectly easy, no need to redo great works of art.
- badtiki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7ok, im an idiot - looking at the trailer again - bad robot is a company backing the project
- ogleby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6IT'S GLOBAL WARMING
- SPARTACVS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6No offense but your interests are pretty shallow if the smoke monster was the only thing you were curious about in Lost.
- foooey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6You can clearly see that it's the head of the statue of liberty in the trailer
- AM6278, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This is Abrams' new Trek movie. The chaos in the trailer is the result of Kirk trying to fit into his girdle.
- Saint3k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5That's the codename of the movie, it will have a different name upon release.
- ryanchapelle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Kelvin was also the name of the guy in the hatch w/ Desmond! (from Lost)
- rubberpants, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltron:
In July 2005, producer Mark Gordon announced a collaboration with singer Pharrell Williams as well as producers Mark Costa and Frank Oelman to make a live-action film adaptation of the franchise. Pharrell Williams was also reported to score the film.[2] In December 2006, screenwriter Justin Marks was announced to have completed a script for Gordon.[3] It will be distributed by Paramount Pictures or Columbia Pictures and World Events Productions. - nosidam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The "VERY large head" is the head from the Statue of Liberty.
- mlvassallo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I would love Godzilla- I mean that is exactly what everybody I was with thought when we saw the trailer, but I think it is going to be a completely different monster type movie.
The concept of shooting it all through "home video" type scenes is one that really excites me. - VSack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I agree.
From the looks of the trailer at the end, we see the Statue of Liberty's head fly close through the camcorder, but then the camcorder drops and its now being visualized through the eyes of the person who is filming it.
Someone also mentioned this could have all been just pre-production shots specifically for a trailer, we'll just have to wait and see.
I can already say that I bought the hook and will pony up my 20 bucks to see how much the production team can entertain me. They've done a good enough job on Lost to earn my trust :) - Casedot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I absolutely hate all of these unoriginal remakes! I really hope he comes out with something new that we can critique without having to compare it to a previously released counterpart. What happened to creativity in motion films?
I think the style is pretty cool, but can we get some original content instead of original ways to save money making ***** movies? - BornGhost, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Do my eyes deceive me or is that Rosario Dawson on the right?
- drtyfrnk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Yeah, and if you should not know this, IMDB is the worst place for information about movies
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6To be fair, Battle Royale wasn't really all that good. Gorey and violent? Yes, but it's not something that I would be compelled to rewatch. And Battle Royale 2 sucked.
- Kerath, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That address is in the middle of the East River. Or maybe Williamsburg (Brooklyn). Either way, it doesn't exist.
- maaddmax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I thought MI3 was x10000 better than the second one.
- stevenhatfield, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's about an "it", so probably a monster movie.... from the trailer, when the people go out onto the street:
"What is it? Is it heading this way?!" - Woman
"I saw it! It's alive! It's Huge!!!" - Man - Neem, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I wish I could dig you up twice.
I agree with everything you said, very strongly so. - apetrie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Just because its been done before, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done again! Hopefully even better.. I have a feeling it will be much scarier and more intense for me if they successfully pull off the home video feel than if they had shot it in the standard way.
- ddmulholland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Dugg for the writer. Drew Goddard is a fantastic writer. Looking forward to this one.
- foooey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yeah, and Henry was the name Ben originally gave the losties
- MikeOSX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I was going to digg you up until I read your flame comment.
- lament, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4you're a great judge of character because you're right - nobody is interested in this movie AT ALL.
- jjsaw5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4then where would you recommend us to look then?
- mrosenow, on 03/30/2009, -1/+4Killer Tomatoes is my guess.
- maaddmax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Whaaaaaa.... He did the same thing to Lost.... So what. He comes up with some kick ass shows.
- Asvetic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@VSack: For the most part, its assumed that the movie is a "Monster" movie shot from the perspective of camcorders. Whether or not this is true for the entire movie, is something that's really just a guess at this point.
The idea of filming an entire movie using standard home video cameras isn't new (Blair Witch), but it is annoying (shaky camera = vomitorium). I hope it's a blending (think Beastie Boys : I F'ing Shot That) of both professionally quality camera shots and the occasion handicam shot. And I hope the handicam has an auto stabilizer to give a better effect of smoothness so we don't get all dizzy watching the camera bobble up and down while everyone's running and falling down.
The effect of seeing it in first person perspective of the "victim" versus 3rd person perspective would be better immersion into the experience. It's always easy to be on the side lines and say how unrealistic that monster. It might help revitalize the genre. -
