- Sedako, on 11/20/2007, -6/+74There's a lot of evidence pointing to the monster being Cthulhu. Here is a good analysis of why, from IMDB user GoBrownsGoZombies:
"I've been doing research on Cloverfield since the teaser came out before Transformers and I must say that I've compiled quite a bit of information from different sites, and with all the evidence that will follow I don't see how anyone can argue that it is Cthulhu or some Cthulu-esque monster.
- On Slusho.jp, under the "Happy Talk" section, one of the quotes was "Bloop". If you search "Bloop" you'll find that it's a noise scientists picked up coming from somewhere deep within the ocean. It's said to come from an unknown animal that is said to be larger than a blue whale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop This points to an underwater monster, which Cthulhu is.
- The basic story that underlies the history on the Slusho site is that a son takes over the work of his mother who died trying to find trying to find a new beverage flavor. The son has a dream and discovers the secret ingredient from the ocean floor. In 'The Call of Cthulhu' a man takes over the work of his dead Uncle who had been working with people who had had DREAMS of Cthulhu.
- To support the smaller monster theories, if there are smaller monsters, I found this: "The star-spawn of Cthulhu, or Cthulhi, have a physical simility with Cthulhu himself, but are of far smaller size. This race arrived with him, but relatively little is known about them. On earth they built the city R'lyeh, which later sank in the ocean, and where they still dwell with Cthulhu. A few are rumored to have escaped this incident, and can be found in hidden places on Earth."
- To support the transformation theories, I have found information on the Star-spawn from the previous statement: "Undersea dwellers which look like a cross between humans and fish (or frogs). Deep ones sometimes breed with humans, creating offspring which are human at first but make a slow transformation into deep ones. The deep ones serve Dagon and Cthulhu." Perhaps the ingredients in Slusho are the sperm of the Star-spawn and are somehow able to impregnate some. Yes, I know the digestive track does not connect to the reproductive organs, but this could possibly be explained somehow in the movie.
- Many authors have placed the sunken city of R'lyeh where Cthulhu lays at different locations, including off of Massachusetts and New York. H.P. Lovecraft however has him located in the Atlantic at 47 degrees South, 126 degrees West. Does the 47 look familiar? Read the opening text of the trailer.
- Lastly, after seeing the very high quality still of the monster crossing between buildings, I'm 100% positive this is Cthulhu. Compare these two pictures:
http://www.empireonline.com/images/t...verfield/6. ...
http://www.summeroflovecraft.com/images/cthulhu-6. ...
Take a look at the back of the head of the monster and then the back of the head of Cthulhu. They are both extended in the back, green, and appear to be veiny and pulpy.
It's also important to mention, and I'm recalling this from what I saw way back on these boards, but if you follow the links in one of the character's myspace profiles, it will eventually lead you to a picture of a Cthulhu statue or figurine." - NeoCortex, on 11/20/2007, -1/+66It's the island's security system.
- b3nman, on 11/20/2007, -5/+50wow it looks so much better than the ***** youtube version. so much more to see.
WTF IS THE MONSTER?!?!?!ONEONEONE - inactive, on 11/20/2007, -3/+44I think it's manbearpig
- Shirleycakes, on 11/20/2007, -1/+38The only major similarity I can see between the two images is the 404. I'm sold.
- a3r0, on 11/20/2007, -0/+37At about halfway in, why is this guy's face pixelized? http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7402/guyds0.jpg
- drewdvorak, on 11/20/2007, -1/+32I just hope they show the monster. Not just show the damage, and hear the monster throughout the whole movie. Like the Blair Witch Project.
- getouttamyfog, on 11/20/2007, -2/+32Those weren't monsters. They really were men in biohazard suits.
This movie has probably one of the smartest advertising campaigns of the last few years, and the trailer looks totally sick too. - Sedako, on 11/20/2007, -0/+29sigh, I hate digg's comment system. Now I can't even edit my reply ><

whoops sorry. got a little motion sick. - Evilstanley, on 11/20/2007, -1/+27So am I the only one who thinks it's really cool that the movie is actually titled Cloverfield? When was the last time a movie was codenamed something and that turned out to be the actual title? Great marketing on their part.
- JaredXM, on 11/20/2007, -3/+28He's secretly gay.
- ericxoxp, on 11/20/2007, -0/+23My guest is that the story is told in a documentary from the future from multiple camera that where found afterwords.

He just has to use the bathroom. - Haecceity, on 11/20/2007, -3/+23Strange. I posted a link to these Apple trailers in the last Cloverfield story (http://digg.com/movies/Bootleg_Cloverfield_Trailer ... and got buried for it. It's a funny place, Digg is.
- virtualball, on 11/20/2007, -3/+23I WOULD HAVE BUT YOU ARE YELLING AND WE HAVEN'T EVEN EXCHANGED PLEASANTRIES! MAYBE YOU SHOULD KNOW ME MORE BEFORE YOU YELL AT ME!
- Braxo, on 11/20/2007, -4/+23I admit that I as going to see Beowolf just to see this trailer.
And I was going to go by myself. - hoshizakistar, on 11/20/2007, -1/+19if you watch the trailer carefully, there's a shot of the monster walking between buildings.
I screencapped it: http://tinyurl.com/2vdlq8 - tizzleG, on 11/20/2007, -1/+18it's nice to see they made the Statue of Liberty head look more realistic than in the teaser
- Harbinger67, on 11/20/2007, -1/+17He is just blurry. And that's extra scary to me. "Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here!"
- Lososaurus, on 11/20/2007, -0/+14I hope they don't show too much of the monster. Part of the terror is not knowing much about it, knowing that it's lurking out there and despite it's size, you're not 100% sure where it is.
- Dakk, on 11/20/2007, -0/+14Check out the woman they're holding though... she inflates kinda rapidly there.
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -0/+13remember, when you edit your posts, you have to rewrite any URLs cos the digg comment script will b0rk it.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 11/20/2007, -3/+16I've got dugg down for thanking people on digg. Digg has a lot of *****.
- DCJoeDogaswell, on 11/20/2007, -4/+17Wii is NOT Revolution
- vondrak, on 11/20/2007, -0/+13That sounds right because the internet is always accurate.
- Chirp08, on 11/20/2007, -2/+15Which makes you want to see the next trailer, and makes you talk to your friends about it, which is THE WHOLE ***** POINT
- wildjohn999, on 11/20/2007, -0/+12Wikipedia says something Lovecraftian, so maybe Cthulhu?
- hroybal, on 11/20/2007, -0/+12Why does it have to be ONE monster? Why can't it be THREE?
RAMPAGE!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampage_(arcade_game) - Dakk, on 11/20/2007, -0/+12Nope... there's clearly something walking between the buildings that looks damn big and grey. Back of the head has a nub like "Alien" but way smaller. It's right after the army guys shooting... the guy and girl are by a dumpster... then there's a clip of the backside of the monster walking between two buildings (walking from left to right).
- BestJaxx, on 11/20/2007, -0/+11There is no way in hell that it is Godzilla, let's get that one out of the way now. They don't have legal rights to put him in another movie. It may be some new sort of monster, J. J. Abrams is a pretty creative guy. That being said, part of me hopes against all logic that it is the devil. I want to see Satan come up to Earth and reek havoc on New York City. Is that so wrong?
- flippedcracker, on 11/20/2007, -0/+11looks awesome, but i hate that kind of camera work.
- Firehed, on 11/20/2007, -4/+14Was I the only one who finished seeing that and thought, "meh."? Maybe I missed out on some viral marketing, but that doesn't look to be any better than any other movie in the genre I've seen.
- hroybal, on 11/20/2007, -0/+10The monsters are George, Lizzie, and Ralph.
- Dakk, on 11/20/2007, -2/+12Who cares what the monster is... why was that woman being held by the biohazard suit guys inflating? Is it the special sauce in the drink?
BTW... the monster is visible briefly in the trailer... looks like a big stone thing. - Guspaz, on 11/20/2007, -4/+13Direct link to 1080p trailer:

http://www.summeroflovecraft.com/images/cthulhu-6. ... - GliTCH82, on 11/20/2007, -0/+9For a film that doesn't interest you in the least, you have 12 ***** comments on this page alone! Give it a rest already. We'll see when it comes out.
- BlindingEdge, on 11/20/2007, -0/+8Well... most code names are totally, or at least somewhat, irrelevant. This doesn't seem to be the case with Cloverfield.
- ChimpFlix, on 11/20/2007, -0/+8They actually DO say "I saw it and it's alive!"... so it's something that wouldn't normally be alive? Um, it's a football stadium?
- Sedako, on 11/20/2007, -1/+8Look it up for me please so you can prove that you're not just blurting out false information.
- Seegoon, on 11/20/2007, -0/+7I prefer this to completely pointless trailers which effectively defy the point of going to the film. So many trailers wash over you when you go the cinema because you know the beginning, middle and end after two and a half minutes.
- Chirp08, on 11/20/2007, -0/+7deffinately looks close, if you go frame by frame there 4-5 of this "scene" and you can see some it move, but nothing representing the tenticles. I love to watch these quick flashy trailers in slow-mo (just pause it, and press the right or left arrow keys on your keyboard to advance one frame at a time, or hold for slo mo). You catch so much extra detail. Whats up with the chick @ 1:12? If you advance the a few frames her upper body swells big time, I dunno if its just because of the lighting and the curtain possibly moving, but it seems odd, especially when two guys with hazmat outfits seem to be struggling with her.
- BobSutan, on 11/20/2007, -1/+7I seriously doubt they're going to show the monster(s). Given the hype being generated there's no way they'll be able to live up to expectations. Plus it's JJ Abrams and he all know how much he likes to give people clear explainations.
- jcastillo81, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6Does anyone else notice that in the shot where the person is behind the curain it appears as if she is expanding like a marshmallow in a microwave? That could be interesting...
- Nantel, on 11/20/2007, -2/+8WILL YOU PEOPLE GO ELSEWHERE! I'm 2/3rd of the way through and the download speed has slowed to a crawl.
- Puppetfunk, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6No it hasn't.
- sgtpppr, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6Worked fine for me.
- luchid, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6That's cause you're using IE. Works fine in Firefox and Opera.
