- jwcelement, on 10/11/2007, -1/+45I personally couldn't think of anyone playing Nelson Mandela better than Morgan Freeman.
- TheCount, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27This is probably the role he was born to play... well Mandela, and God, apparently.
- rstarr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23I couldn't imagine a more qualified actor.
- smoothmedia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I've always mistaken the two for each other! This is perfect
- calvey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Nelson Mandela spent 19 years in the Shawshank Penitentiary ... oh Andy...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wait, the guy from Half-life wasn't black. What the hell!?
- darny, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5They're each other's clone. I knew this was going to happen.
- mc1123, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5what about Dave Chappelle? He did a fine job on his show lol
- zarex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Who's going to play his murdering, torturing wife?
- nesibus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4We should be voting him for our next President, no matter what he says...it would sound damn cool and convincing.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6What was Steve Carell busy?
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Man, I love and respect Morgan Freeman. I'm sure he'll bring his game for this role. Freeman is an excellent actor, and Mandella, a remarkable human being.
- FetalSage, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Mandela was a great man and still is. I actually am South African, sure I was born in 1986 and didn't exactly experience apartheid like my parents did, I just got the end of it. But when Mandela became President in 1994, things did change and for the better. It was only when the next President came into power, Thabo Mbeki, that it all went to *****.
- notman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I agree about the choice. They share a resemblance and Morgan Freeman is a great actor... not to mention well respected.
- ChromaVita, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Correction... Mandela and himself.
- Kwipper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I can't see anyone else playing Nelson Mandela more than Morgan Webb... err.. Freeman
- Istari6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@Boerseun
I don't think that the ANC has hidden their dark past. In Mandela's own autobiography he speaks of the difficulty of making a policy decision to move from non-violent resistance to armed conflict and it's not something that was done lightly. The fact that South Africa had a Truth and Reconciliation Commission speaks to the fact that they did not try and hide things afterwards. As you say, history is (re)written by the victors and today's terrorist is tomorrow's freedom fighter. From your username I gather you're a proud Afrikaner. A am glad that you realise and accept that Apartheid was wrong - but do you honestly believe that change in South Africa would have happened if the blacks sought to bring change by singing freedom songs and and toyi-toying only? Would that have been enough for Afrikaners and white South Africans to realise that apartheid was wrong (and change things)? The important thing is that Mandela sought to reconcile and rebuild and thanks to that, South Africa is the place it is today.
Now Winnie, on the other hand, is simply a different story - an absolute disgrace. - tybris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What about Mike Myers?
... aaah forget it. I'm not commenting anymore, I'm tired of digging for them. - internetslacker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't care what anybody says, Morgan Freeman will always be the "Easy Reader" to me. Umm umm-umm...

- boerseun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@FetalSage,
I'm South African too, live in the US now since I did not find it very pleasant having to carry a gun with me and finally ending up having to pull it (not fire fortunately) since people were told in 1994 by Mandela's ANC that they will be able to take any house for themselves if they Vote for the ANC. It's a pity you were not around but you feel you can mouth off about things you know nothing about. On the other hand, I do think going forward with a "new" South Africa people need to be able to move on and let the past be the past. The whole apartheid thing was a huge error and in no way did any positive came from it, but unfortunately Mandela decided to place ex-Communist and Socialist party members in his Parliament after 1994, thus planting the seeds which is now the government in South Africa. - combustion8, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Not to mention turning south africa into anarchy.
- yamyogurt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1They're both black.
- boerseun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@BeyondGoodNEvil
Watching these clips, or speaking about them is considered extremist, since the majority of the World believe everything they see on Television. If it is said that Mandela was the greatest man ever, and that he won (shared) the Nobel prize, who are you, or any other "radical" to bring forth any such propaganda against such a fine regime? I am not trying to defend apartheid. It was wrong, and the people behind it did incredibly inhumane things, but on the other side, so did the ANC and Mandela and his fellow Comrades. As they say, history is written by the victors, and as such, in a 30-40 years, Mandela will be a saint, and you will not find any main stream history sources with any references to the violent ANC past. I remember commandos patrolling my school from school bombings in the 80's after the ANC planted bombs in Secunda at the gas refineries (SASOL II and III) there. - boerseun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Hopefully never.
- alvinwriter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Nelson Mandela had always reminded me of Morgan Freeman whenever I saw him on television. More of the subject here: http://thenewsroom.com/details/435347/Entertainment?c_id=wom-bc-ar
- Alvin from The Entertainment Desk at TheNewsRoom.com - MysticSavage, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Damn it, I was hoping for Dave Chappelle...
/Cry freedom, bitch!!
//Kidding, Morgan is a God. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Wonder how the movie will treat Mandela's mass-murderer "civil rights activist" wife, Winnie -- and Nelson's knowledge, public support of her activities.
