- 9mmCensor, on 09/27/2008, -16/+91If you didn't have to change alot to get a PG-13 rating, you didn't shoot the film to be a R rated film as it should have.
Another video game title fails to live up to its potential :( - swrostmore, on 09/26/2008, -1/+64The point is damage control because most people who liked the game probably wanted the movie to be 'R.' I know I did.
- Rev0lver, on 09/27/2008, -3/+46PG13 =/= an automatically bad film.
- dericko, on 09/27/2008, -4/+46"Another video game title fails to live up to its potential :("
Oh, and you've seen it already? - JohnnyQwest, on 09/26/2008, -3/+38I guess it doesn't "feel dark" anymore which was their original complaint.
- Rev0lver, on 09/27/2008, -3/+37Can we at least let the movie release before we start doomsaying? Dark Knight and Live Free or Die Hard was PG13 and they got away with A LOT...
- Tyrghast, on 09/27/2008, -0/+34Money.
- nublet, on 09/27/2008, -1/+32i don't get it, the game was rated m (movie equivalent of r), but the movie will be pg-13?
- bigfatphony19, on 09/27/2008, -5/+35And...WHY are they aiming for a PG-13 rating?
The *****? - bigfatphony19, on 09/27/2008, -3/+26I think that's kind of warranted this time...it's ***** Max Payne
- mattluiz, on 08/28/2009, -0/+22Everyone needs to see 'This Movie Is Not Yet Rated.'
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-559517494 ... - Conwaysb0718, on 09/27/2008, -1/+23cuz who would want to see a "dark" max payne anyway, right?
- danmarek, on 09/26/2008, -1/+23Isn't the point of the article saying how little was changed? I'm confused, it's like they took out hardly anything and everyone's complaining because it's rated PG-13 instead of R. Or am I totally missing the point?
- Tyrghast, on 09/27/2008, -8/+28Guys, a PG-13 movies nowadays is an R movie sans nipples. The gore and cursing will be there, so don't think you wont be able to get your violence boner.
- Spamiclese, on 09/27/2008, -0/+16Obligatory ***** THE MPAA!
- houndeyex, on 09/27/2008, -0/+13The games are all M I think. Anyone who played them when they were 13 would be 17+ now. Might as well make them R.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -2/+12Because a whole lot of people who are between the ages of 13 and 18 will see the movie?
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+9Isn't there like a scene with a baby sitting in a pool of blood or someting? =/
- leif77, on 09/27/2008, -0/+8Id bet my life that it doesn't feel near as dark as The Dark Knight which didn't have much trouble getting a PG13. Talk about a ***** reason for an R rating. Too dark, my ass.
- KnightMareInc, on 09/27/2008, -1/+9the chance of this movie not being complete trash is slim
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 09/27/2008, -4/+12I still do not understand why people say that. There was nothing in that movie that should have pushed it to R. There wasn't even the slightest hint of blood. They show a guy choking from acid. They show a guy falling after presumably having his mouth torn open (they never show it). They show a guy having a pencil disappear into his head but never show anything other than a thump on the ground and the pencil no longer being there. We presume a Chinese man is bruned alive. We see a car get hit by a rocket launcher (OH NO!!!!). We see a guy get pushed over the edge and hear the thump of him hitting the ground but we don't see the guy hitting the ground. We see a few gunshots but we don't see anyone actually get shot.
No sex, no nudity, no sexual references, no blood, no bad language. What the hell did The Dark Knight get away with exactly? - critikill, on 09/27/2008, -1/+8
thats the problem people are trying to make. he didn't shoot the film to be an R rated movie if removing a couple of frames makes it PG-13. the directors cut is going to be watered down too. - kolinkoolface2, on 09/27/2008, -0/+7i want to see the dvd director's cut.
- shadeOfGrey, on 09/27/2008, -3/+10YOU might be, but maybe not everyone else. Max Payne SHOULD be a lot darker than Batman.
- AllenFresno, on 09/27/2008, -0/+7They should have to reconsider the scenes
- shadeOfGrey, on 09/27/2008, -0/+6That was the type of imagery in the game. The movie, however, will be softened for 13 year olds.
- deltron, on 09/27/2008, -1/+7So the game is rated M and the movie is rated PG-13. This movie is gonna blow.
- Styvo, on 09/27/2008, -2/+8Oh my god, you are all a bunch of bitches. Im gonna run down to BJ's or Costco to get an industrial tissue pack. The ***** is not out yet. and pg 13 doesnt mean ***** when it comes to the entertainment value. sorry there will be 'no full frontal nudity, but im shure you will still see blood and hear '*****' so be easy. You all sound like a bunch of old women. "I remember when... ; Damn youth changing things"'
- Tyrghast, on 09/27/2008, -3/+8Even though most pg-13 movies should be rated R (The Dark Knight, anyone?). PG-13 = money, and money outweighs honesty in the business.
- djholybolt, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5Yeah, I want to see a ***** easter bunny and santa clause playing Patty-Cake in this son of a bitch.
IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE DARK!
I hate the MPAA. - martyFREEDOM, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4This is funny and all but the storyboard they released the other day showed Max Payne's wife on the bed in a bloody mess as it should be.
- r00tus3r, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4It's not censorship. It's capitalism at work. Greed always wins out.
- Piontek, on 09/27/2008, -3/+7the united states of censorship
- Cougarcat, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4You can get Max Payne 1 and 2 combined for 7.50 on Steam this weekend. Cheaper than a movie ticket.
- whahaa, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
/faints - BrainCoder, on 09/27/2008, -2/+5PG-13 Max Payne - Max's family gets kidnapped by some street gang, police fires him because he is violent and he's alone as *****. He starts killing every bad guy gets in his way ( no blood on screen, of course ) wearing a batsuit.
- tnoy, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3We hate them for EXCESSIVELY trying to protect the rights of their work that prevents us from working within the area of things like the Fair Use Act.
- tbredofsin, on 09/27/2008, -2/+5I do not and never will understand the obsession with certain films being rated R. It is not necessary to explicitly display violent or sexual content in order to let the viewer know what is happening.
In fact, I actually believe that in the long run, explicitly displaying horrific things is less powerful than implying them and letting the viewer fill in the blanks. We can get used to seeing a guy's fingers cut off and it will stop affecting us very strongly, simply through repetition. Imagining it happening never becomes commonplace and never loses its impact the same way.
I *prefer* The Dark Knight's approach. I wouldn't have wanted that film to be rated R with all of the trappings that come with it. The fact that you don't see exactly what the Joker is doing when he cuts into people adds to the menace. We know it's happening, but it's happening off-camera, so we have to imagine it--and that's worse than anything the filmmaker could cook up.
What are people looking for? A one-time rush? Go watch porn, or at least go watch low-budget exploitation films designed around that kind of cheap visceral feeling. I'd rather have a good movie. - ryangravener, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Movie should have been R. Just shows that they care about making more money then making a great movie.
- ceredron, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Dark Knight, LOTR series, Lawrence of Arabia, The Raiders of the Lost Ark
What the ***** are you smoking? - gkrat, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3the game is m....if they didn't write an r movie it's not max payne.
- kalpol, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3> besides, it wasnt really the voilence that made max payne,
Writing sure, I'll give you that, but don't tell me you never ran through a room of people in bullet time with the dual Ingrams and said "that was AWESOME!!" - immski, on 09/27/2008, -6/+9*****....this movie could have been so good. It is too bad the ultimately went with the PG-13 rating.
- h4mx0r, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Ok, director's cut or UNRATED version of the dvd edition should give us everything it would have been!
- belebih, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2I agree that the film should've been R to keep it in line with the Mature games, but that's not the point here.
Obviously he didn't shoot the film to be R. He said so from the beginning. That was the original complaint, that he shot the film with a PG-13 in mind from the get go and got an R. Then he did some minimal editing and now it's down to PG-13 with barely any changes, which only shows how arbitrary the whole rating system is. /That's/ the point. - keysersozejr, on 09/28/2008, -0/+2Director John Moore is "bewildered" by how he continues to get hired. As are we John, as are we.
- UndeadZmobie, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Nope.
- tnoy, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2And we all know how heavily enforced those game ratins are by retailers....
- ZigVicious, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2The goggles, they do nothing.
Good luck un-seeing that. - noseeme, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2This would have been so much better if the great Uwe Boll directed it.
