- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -2/+67What, no steroids? That's not very '80s wrestler of him.
- vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -0/+39Vitamins = Steroids
- zimz, on 01/09/2009, -0/+37"ex-Israeli cage fighter"
He's still a cage fighter, just not an Israeli one anymore. - Vosem, on 01/08/2009, -1/+35Phenomenal movie. If I didn't know better I would have completely believed Randy 'The Ram' Robinson was a real wrestler.
- Hetman, on 01/08/2009, -3/+32Rourke is awesome and all. But I learned how to get the body of an 80s wrestler for an actual 80s wrestler. Hulk Hogans Demandments. " Train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins." It is that ez.
- KarlH, on 01/09/2009, -1/+26Or he fights in cages that used to belong to Israel but were handed over to the Palestinian Authority.
- boozedrinker, on 01/09/2009, -1/+20I don't care what people say about him. Mickey Rourke is a 100% certified U.S. cinema BADASS.
- GuyDanger, on 01/09/2009, -2/+18Great movie...best part though, Marisa Tomei's Titties!
- billmill, on 01/09/2009, -0/+15If you haven't seen the movie go see it.. or download it... well worth it.
I wouldn't expect if from the Pi / Requium for a Dream Director.. but it was one of the better movies i've seen. - Fullvinyl, on 01/09/2009, -0/+10Don't forget believing in yourself; that's vital.
- GuyDanger, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9Nicolas Cage needs a beating
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+10thats exactly the point of having $$$$ in the bank. Who needs a hot body when you got cash? Cash will get you laid way faster than a good body will
- greatfloat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9The lengths some actors go to make a movie is phenomenal.
- OafBoaster, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8The Toecutter: you're completely wrong. The muscle VERY SLOWLY goes away, it doesn't turn into fat. He'll still retain a lot of the muscle for a long time. The only way he'll get mewbs is if he decides to maintain the same caloric intake he had to sustain to get to this point. If he does that, he'll get fat.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8amazing movie
the one scene with the hardcore match was f'd - Mossman85, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8One of the best movies of the year, and Rourke is fantastic in it.
- Mujokan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8I preferred the Mr. Perfect approach. Just naturally rock at everything. ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2_y_bh-p0Y - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -7/+15Dude is going to look even worse down the road. Pumping up like that drastically, aging, and not maintaining that level of fitness = flubber fail
- musntSurfatWork, on 01/09/2009, -1/+8YOU WIN THIS THREAD!
- Forser, on 01/09/2009, -2/+8Flubber fail with lots of money.
- BBrains, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6Somehow I think this wasn't lost on Mickey Rourke.
- ZombieSociety, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6In all those classic Hulk Hogan promos, he left out the part where he did massive amounts of cocaine.
- chesterjosiah, on 01/09/2009, -2/+7Or he fights cages from Israel.
- WiretapStudios, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5He was fighting against terrible Nicholas Cage movies being imported into Israel.
- Azathothh, on 01/09/2009, -1/+6Or he just fought once in Israel with Johnny Cage
- TimDigg, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5Mr. Perfect was the *****
Remember the Perfect Plex - merdiesel, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4She really has one of the best bodies in Hollywood.
- david4041, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4How do you figure? Muscle doesn't turn to fat.
As long as Mickey cuts back on his eating and exercises, he shouldn't have any problem staying in reasonable shape. The problem some ex-football players have is they keeping eating like they did during their playing days without the exercise. - vagrantwade, on 01/09/2009, -2/+5Your sense of humor sucks balls.
- fzammetti, on 01/09/2009, -2/+5Ok, show of hands, how many of you know an ex-Israeli cage fighter?
Yeah, didn't think so.
Ok, show of hands again, how many of you have a spare 8-10 hours a day (very roughly what I figured he put in) to work out and train?
Yeah, didn't think so either.
I always get a laugh out of celebrities that whip themselves into fantastic shape for this role or that because it bears no resemblance to the reality I live in, especially when people try and hold it up as an example of "what it takes to get in shape" (not necessarily this article or the comments I've seen thus far, just making a generalizationn).
I mean, I have a regular 9-5 (sometimes more), then a few hours with the family, then some side work at night. I manage to squeeze in 30-45 minutes of exercise a day, on most days, but even that's a struggle sometimes. I don't have very many options for getting in shape frankly.
Now, don't get me wrong, kudos to him and everyone else that does stuff like this, in this case it was part of his job and he put in the work and had fabulous results. But for me... when I get the spare coin to hire a personal trainer, can take the time off from work, want to completely abandon my family and otherwise don't have a life, I'll let you know (ok, some would argue the last part is true already, but I digress!) - Myztry, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Stallone and Rourke are both actors using industry training.
Stallone didn't use HGH before being caught out either... - mrgreenjeans, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Off topic, but I saw Toecutter and wondered if it's a reference to Mad Max, checked your profile and Bingo! Toecutter was my name when I played BF2.
OK, I'm done. - dragon76, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Nic Cage has the same problem Kate Hudson has*, just because you have relatives that are great actors does not mean YOU are a great actor, just that your family has connections.
*see also George W Bush - mrhedges, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3He put on 32lbs, he wasn't a twig when it started. The guy used to be a professional boxer. Roger Ebert's review insinuated that he used steroids too, and I think it's a dumb ***** statement to make.
- merdiesel, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3I'm not gonna lie, I got a little choked up on the last scene. Great film.
- NeonDistraction, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3Short amount of time? Did you read the article, or at least the description? He spent 7 months training to add weight. And he started at 192 lbs, so he was hardly a twig.
- david4041, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Twig? Did you see "Sin City" and "Domino?"
- pintomp3, on 01/09/2009, -2/+4I'm not your cage, fighter.
- SuperVepr308, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3Dugg for "Israeli cage fighter". Plus, Rourke is a pretty cool dude.
- diggopolous, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2No it's not, see: S-T-F-U
- technohead, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2From an interview with him in Men's Journal magazine:
..but when I ask if he also used steroids or human growth hormone, he smiles conspiratorially and says, "When I'm a wrestler, I behave like a wrestler." - jstem1994, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1I thought the RSS feed said “How to get the body of an 80 year old”.
He looked pretty rough the last time I saw him. - merdiesel, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1***** off, R. Kelly.
- dragon76, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3You can ALWAYS tell when someone is on steroids because they get muscle bulk without definition. It also makes your internal organs bloat so they have a bulky torso with no visible abs.
Rastlin' is all for show, they don't need REAL athletic prowess like UFC fighters. Take a look at the body types of the two and you can see who is actually training and who is taking the shortcuts to get the "look". - Briandt75, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1most accurate and awesome comment. thanks!
- IamNOTmrT, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1pics ... or you can't
- fzammetti, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Huh?
- bombula, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1No, they just forgot to take the makeup off after he finished Sin City...
- Mujokan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1He went back to boxing at the age of 40, so he has the mental strength for sure.
