- Homerr, on 06/16/2009, -4/+79So will the Republican heads explode when they try to reconcile that they agree with Michael Moore on something?
- nismerf, on 06/16/2009, -10/+75Here is the thing about Moore, One may not agree with what he says, or how he says it, but what we can all agree on is that he gets you thinking about it either way. So I say good.
- Eorster, on 06/16/2009, -8/+58I knew Moore would be on this bailout fiasco like a fly on crap. Go get em'.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -4/+28Twinkies would cost about a penny.
- scubaninja, on 06/16/2009, -6/+26I remember when I watched "Bowling for Columbine". I came away from it thinking that it raised some interesting questions. Michael Moore appeared to be fairly objective, and appeared to be just trying to get to the bottom of the situation and ask tough questions.
Then, I did some research, and it quickly became obvious that he had a major ax to grind, and wasn't above using any amount of lies and deception to score points for his side.
If you are interested in just how misleading and deceptive Michael Moore is in his techniques, look at all the gross fabrications, lies, inaccuracies, half truths, glaring omissions and tricky editing in Bowling For Columbine:
http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html
Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, I think he does everyone a disservice by trying to pass around such blatant misinformation as truth. - Aadain, on 06/15/2009, -4/+22Well, that should be interesting
- swmbuk, on 06/16/2009, -2/+19Is it me or does he look older? Like a lot older?
- drmangrum, on 06/16/2009, -2/+17Well, he IS 55 and overweight. Being out-of-shape and perpetually angry doesn't lend itself to a youthful appearance.
- drmangrum, on 06/16/2009, -4/+19This is one Moore movie I might actually watch. Considering most Americans abhorred the idea of bailing banks, it will be nice to see both the banks and the un-representing representatives receive a poke in the eye.
- chessthecat, on 06/16/2009, -8/+21I'll put down a C-Note that he blames Bush for everything and that Obama's name isn't even mentioned in the movie.
- jotchie, on 06/16/2009, -5/+17Yeah its good to decide upon your moral values and shadow your political opinions from books of people that create reactionary content.
I suggest you start reading Bull O'Reillys stuff next. - neonoodle, on 06/16/2009, -6/+16He'd surrender to Cuba?
- hadessniper, on 06/16/2009, -1/+10You realize that someone can agree with his politics and can still be absolutely disgusted by the underhanded and cheap tricks he uses in his "documentaries." He misrepresents facts, he quotes out of context, he makes misleading statements and hundreds of other cheap tricks to get his points across.
The man is as much scumbag as anyone on fox. By disregarding his tricks because you agree with his politics you come across as the same the fox viewers you look down your nose at.
I'm a liberal btw - xutopia, on 06/16/2009, -5/+13Who's the last "conservative" president who's run without a deficit?
- rizzo2008, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9I haven't heard of a real conservative president since before WW1
- FlyingPhoenix, on 06/16/2009, -4/+12His complete lack of facial hair is unnerving.
- medallions, on 06/16/2009, -1/+8This whole corporate & banking bailout thing was a made for Michael Moore movie.. Too easy.
I'm sure he'll have fun with it. - rromansanturio, on 06/16/2009, -4/+11Is it that time of the year already??
- Cockslap, on 06/16/2009, -13/+19Buried for "documentary".
Title is misleading. - pinchduck, on 06/16/2009, -1/+7I'm not sure what Moore wants. The government gave GM to his beloved UAW. Wasn't he basically stumping for that in Roger & Me? Now they can show us all how easy it is to make cars economically when workers run things.
- tacoman359, on 06/16/2009, -1/+7I think Reagan was supposed to be conservative, but he tripled our debt, and ***** us over with just another bubble. Clinton's been the best president economically in a long, long time.
- gametavern, on 06/16/2009, -2/+7I look forward to this. These are always entertaining, and hopefully open the issue up for realistic debate.
- whiledo, on 06/16/2009, -12/+17By those same standards, Hannity's waterboarding rhetoric is "good." Because he sure got people thinking about it, if the plethora of comments on digg is any indication.
- AmazingSteve, on 06/16/2009, -3/+8Why? You listened to Bush drone on about it for 8 years.
- birch25, on 06/16/2009, -4/+9You think too many people are liberal so you should be conservative? That's a fairly terrible reason to orient yourself with the right.
Also, the conservative garbage is even worse. Read some Mark Levin, Glen Beck or Ann Coulter and maybe you're switch back. - inactive, on 06/16/2009, -2/+7Resulting to name calling makes me suspect that you don't have a counterargument.
- scubaninja, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6I don't watch Fox either (except for The Simpsons and things like that). Fox news pulls the same sorts of tricks that Michael Moore does. I'm interested in truth. The ends do not justify the means. I don't want to be lied to, even if I agree with the conclusion.
I thoroughly enjoyed Supersize Me (about McDonald's and fast food) and The Smartest Guys In The Room (about Enron). I think people should be talking about this and making thought provoking movies. I would like to see a GOOD movie about this subject. It's too bad that Michael Moore is making it instead of someone else with some credibility and integrity. - Makaras, on 06/16/2009, -4/+8Isn't that cute, your entire world view can be manipulated by the viewpoints of one non-government commentator. I would try to reconcile you back into the party, but such simplistic views are probably better off in the republican party. At least there the one individual who will ultimately manipulate you into doing whatever he (but maybe she) wants, hasn't been yet appointed.
- cleveruser, on 06/16/2009, -9/+13A Michael Moore documentary with fiscally conservative leanings?? I never thought id see the day!
- Shiftgood, on 06/16/2009, -3/+7obviously
childofprodigy != prodigy - rizzo2008, on 06/16/2009, -3/+7Yes but wasn't it the Republicans AND Democrats that widely supported the bailouts? I appreciate what Moore is doing because the bailouts were wrong but his past films have lost him a lot of credibility. He cherry picks facts and ignores the truth (maybe he can avoid doing that in this film and point out that the government used propaganda and lies to get the public to support the bank bailouts when they were really not necessary).
- BoneStamp, on 06/16/2009, -1/+5In other words, he's going to make a ton of money.
- DankBuddz, on 06/16/2009, -9/+13The underling intent of Moore's films is ethical.
Hannity's is not. - cr12345, on 06/16/2009, -3/+7They'd have to change Air Force One from a 747 to a C5 Galaxy Transport, just get his fat ass off the ground.
- brihar73, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4Yeah, he's so greedy that his last film, "Slacker Uprising", which took $2 million to make, is completely FREE! What a huge profit that makes.
- saminfused, on 06/16/2009, -3/+7Wait, so, his movie had his viewpoints in it? Holy crap!
- Mothrog, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4So, if Rush Limbaugh released a book, would you take it seriously? People who continually make garbage shouldn't be taken seriously.
- dOOBiEx213, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4You're comparing apples and oranges. He's simply bringing awareness to an issue most Americans don't really understand. God forbid people make money off their work.
- whiledo, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3That's a fairly simple-minded statement. Would you say that it's close-minded to say "great, looks like that right-wing blowhard Bill O'Reilly has just released another book" without having read it? What about if I'd read his first five books and there had been no news saying how he'd turned over a new leaf and decided to stop being such a douchebag?
Oh, and in the hopes that someone might actually read this thread and honestly want to know what problem even many liberals have with Moore:
http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html
Yes, it's written by someone who is conservative. But it is written quite fairly and backs up its assertions with citations so you can verify it yourself.
This is the link that opened my eyes to Moore's dodgy techniques, which I then started noticing in his other movies. - Elranzer, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Hopefully, this one will also be leaked so more people can see it.
Michael Moore on Sicko being leaked:
"I'm just happy that people get to see my movies. I'm not a big supporter of the copyright laws in this country…I don't understand bands or filmmakers…who oppose sharing, having their work being shared by people, because it only increases your fanbase." - SmilinChris, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3No,
It was politicians who supported the bailout. - fcra, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Fiscally conservative? What are you guys smoking? He's not angry that the government is giving out money, he's angry that they're not giving out money to the people instead.
- GrodyChamp, on 06/16/2009, -2/+5$5 it's an hour and a half of blaming Bush for everything.
- davidkinca, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4The documentary Manufacturing Dissent shows a different perspective on Moore's lies. The filmmaker from Canada with views that are to the left of Michael Moore showed how he's just out to get money - not to solve any problems. They also showed how in Bowling for Columbine, Moore insisted that the bank give him a gun right there in the bank. He made it seem like it was their normal protocol to just hand out the guns right there by the teller, which it wasn't. The liberal commentators were also baffled by his use of Canada as an example because Canada has a lot of gun ownership also, but without the high crime rate that America has.
As for this Bailout movie, I can only hope that he gives Obama just as much flack for fiscal irresponsibility as Bush. Maybe he can show the viewer how both parties are screwing us over. - rizzo2008, on 06/16/2009, -3/+6you really have no clue do you?
Obama supported the bailouts from the Senate during his campaign (said they were necessary and our financial system would collapse without them which is total *****). He also bailed out GM and Chrysler only to have them go bankrupt anyway (talk about a waste of money) and pushed his whole stimulus (ahem 'pork') package that has accomplished absolutely nothing except more debt.
Will you keep believing its all Bush's fault when we have inflation rivaling that of the 70s in a few years? - Barackalypse, on 06/16/2009, -3/+6We'll get to see just how partisan Moore really is, given the majority of the Republicans in Congress voted against the bailout and the majority of the Democrats in Congress voted for it, including Obama (who, incidentally, received more campaign donations from Wall Street than any other candidate).
- nismerf, on 06/16/2009, -2/+5Kind of yea. You don't have to like the message as long as it stirs some thoughts. If I remember correctly Hannity's comments blew up in his face, and got a lot of people going. Which is better than sheeple just accepting anything.
- andrewlotta, on 06/16/2009, -8/+11What if Michael Moore was president?
- Hardataq, on 06/16/2009, -7/+10Incoming 90 minute film of "Bush started it".
- rizzo2008, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4I can only hope he does better with this because I totally agree with you...Bowling for Columbine was a load of crap if you just dig a little deeper.
