- srazis, on 07/14/2009, -11/+92I think he should read the book, at least then he'd have a clearer image who Dumbledore was. This guy is so different from the Dumbledore in the books, he acts all dark and sad with no warmth aspect to him.
- Cyborg326, on 07/14/2009, -3/+66Yeah seriously the first actor they had was way better.
That's sad that he died. - GusCrown, on 07/14/2009, -7/+68No wonder his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore is so off character.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -9/+63Dumbledore is sooooo gay.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/14/2009, -4/+54PROTIP: Snape kills you.

- thekrash, on 07/14/2009, -0/+28He HAS read the books, apparently he just likes to mess with interviewers. Lulz!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Michael_Gambon#Re ... - JBabin3xB, on 07/14/2009, -1/+28coming around Gambon and across the line!
- mimigins, on 07/14/2009, -9/+33Except for the whole "learning your character" aspect
- wannaBdug, on 07/14/2009, -16/+40He's missing out.
- serif69, on 07/14/2009, -1/+21LOL @ people getting upset over a man who nearly rolled a car on the Top Gear test track.
- Shaggy3, on 07/14/2009, -3/+22Ian McKellen would have been perfect.
Or the original Dumbledore. - loneraver, on 07/14/2009, -9/+23Sooooo what? The books are good but there is no reason to get pissy if it's not his thing.
- mav3rick92, on 07/14/2009, -1/+14Dugg for truth
- inevitablity, on 07/14/2009, -12/+24Thats why he sucks as dumbledore!
- loneraver, on 07/14/2009, -5/+15He has a script.
- johnandlandry, on 07/14/2009, -5/+15Meh, headline obscures his real reason for not reading it. The final product of a film is completely different from that of the book, so, as he says, "You’d get upset about all the scenes it's missing from the book." Perhaps he'd get a better idea of the character he's supposed to be portraying, but he should act in the realm set by the screenwriter, not the book author. Besides, if you're a 69 year-old millionaire actor and you're reading "Harry Potter" in your spare time, your priorities may be out of line.
- Trombonium, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10I'll believe him just on the fact that he has his own corner of the Top Gear test track.
- ricker2005, on 07/14/2009, -5/+14Maybe you'll figure it out once you finish high school.
- MasterGrief, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9When asked if children approach him as Dumbledore in the street, Gambon responded, "Children don't usually recognise me, although a kid came up to me the other day. I was in Cornwall, and he said, "Gandalf, can I have your autograph?" I said, "Piss off!""
- cyrix, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W7pLkFkVjg#t=5m10s
Just watch on from there. - SouthsideIrish, on 07/14/2009, -1/+10Only problem is the original Dumbledore kicked the bucket, so I don't think a cold corpse could be as good as Michael Gamboon, and do you really want Gandalf the Grey to play Dumbledore? That would be way too confusing to be seeing and hearing Gandalf.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 07/14/2009, -1/+10Hell Jim Dale does a better job in the audio books, and closer to the job Richard Harris did before he died.
Gambon sucks as Dumbledore, but was great in layer cake. - rmaddy, on 07/14/2009, -1/+9why direct when you can post lame comments on Digg?
- Arseny89, on 07/14/2009, -0/+8Not reading a book because there's a movie adaptation of it one of the stupidest reasons to not read a book. You've missed out on countless literary marvels because of a really ignorant personal philosophy.
- GailScott, on 07/14/2009, -2/+9On the contrary.... Gambon explains that he would get frustrated because all the scenes in the books can't be included in the films. Frustration could easily hamper his wonderful performance. If this is what it takes for Gambon to bring Dumbledore to life, then it's okay by me.
- SEN5241, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7Agreed.
His portrayal of Dumbledore pales in comparison to Richard Harris. He has no concept of the character and it shows. - SalmonGod, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7The first couple Harry Potter movies were spot on perfect book-to-movie translations. Every time people try to make this point about movies, I point to the first Harry Potter film. The franchise has deteriorated since then, and their more recent portrayals of Dumbledore are the most horrid symptom. Richard Harris did a much better job, because he had that serenity-in-the-midst-of-any-storm quality about him that's essential to Dumbledor's character and the story as a whole. The new guy slams doors, waves his arms around, and yells like a lunatic.
- cyrix, on 07/14/2009, -1/+8Yes.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+8Do you usually judge books by their big screen adaptations?
- TylerDuhrdan, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7The books are better, way better than the movies. I am no rabid Harry Potter fan, I read the books after seeing the first 3 films.
- Yomoska, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7The books got me read more books, really changed my opinion on books without pictures =/
- ace429k, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7No one in the movies is as bad as Barty Crouch SR. ugh...shudder.
- SirBruce, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7Yes. That was 5 years and 3 movies ago.
- Barackalypse, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7Why yes he did, about 5 years ago.
- BrownieMix, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7He does have a point. And while we're on the subject of Harry Potter, I'd just like to take the time to say Cho Chang is HOT!
- Cyborg326, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Well as a fan of the books I think the movies are terrible, the first two were decent but it was downhill from there.
- palanthos, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8I've got a degree in English and I read all seven of them.
They're good.
You're not. - Paulish, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7[citation needed]
- SalmonGod, on 07/14/2009, -1/+6Children's tales? The books dealt with deeper, darker themes than the movies have. Definitely not children's tales, even if they've been marketed as such. Rowling delves deep into themes of torture, violent dictatorship, fear culture, etc...
Seriously don't accept the movies as substitutes for the real thing. You're missing out. You're getting a very very incorrect impression of the story, especially with LotR. Peter Jackson ***** up central themes of LotR badly, and that's one of the most influential series of books in modern times. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis (who were friends back in the day) basically invented the genre of high fantasy as we know it today. - burrgrinder, on 07/14/2009, -1/+6A comic is probably one of the few places Comic Sans is appropriate...I can't bury it for that.
- Barackalypse, on 07/14/2009, -2/+7I don't like Gambon's Dumbledore, he gives the character an almost angry edge that was so completely wrong from the wise and benevolent Dumbledore from the books. I think Richard Harris played the character exactly as needed in the original movie, its a shame he didn't live to finish out the series.
- ace429k, on 07/14/2009, -3/+8Go away Troll. back! BACK!
- sulthernao, on 07/14/2009, -1/+6I seriously started laughing after reading your comment.
- BigBalledOX, on 07/14/2009, -11/+16Funny, I also see no point in reading Rowling's books.
- chuckDontSurf, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4"Chinese Fireball, oooooooh!"
- SalmonGod, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4The first Harry Potter film was the best book-to-movie translation I've ever seen. They made no significant changes in content from the book, and the flavor of the film was spot on as well.
- SouthsideIrish, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5Go watch the commentary for Lord of the Rings and you will see that the scriptwriter does indeed change things, and so does the director. I was pissed off at Peter Jackson and his wife for the things they did to Merry, Pipping and Hobbits in general, but not after i saw the reason why they did it. A book the size of any J.K. Rowling or J.R.R Tolkien book can never be made into a absolutely by the book me, it simply must be changed by the scriptwriter and director.
