- yongfookathome, on 10/10/2007, -2/+69From the guy who is hands down the best Alfred ever, performing along side the best Batman ever, that's a promising compliment. I can't wait.
- Xeidan1727, on 10/10/2007, -5/+66If you can't trust the word of Michael Caine then BEJUS, who can you trust?
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -2/+51Off the batman teaser - "Some men aren't looking for anything logical, they cant be brought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn" - Alfred.
I think The Joker is in good hands. - jawadde, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42personally, i found Nicholson not such a good cast in the original joker. He was fantastic offcourse, but he was just a fantastic Jack Nicholson... Like in most of his more recent movies, he's becoming a caricature of himself. Frankly, he never scared me as the Joker, just made me giggle. Much like Mr. Freeze.
Mind you : i'm not saying Nicholson isn't a good actor. Its just that his palette of characters has diminished severly while ageing. Which is not a shame, just an observation. Then again, he's a victim of stereotype casting too... a flow the younger generation (like Ledger or Gillenhaal) refuse to go with. - geoffreyireland, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40Batman Begins is the best superhero movie to date and from the early buzz of this movie and the already perfect formula in place it sounds like this is going to top it. Even in the teaser trailer Ledgers "Joker" laugh sounds so ***** sinister and evil.
I can't wait.
Bale > * - reinadehielo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+39Awesome. I was worried about Heath Ledger playing the Joker, I mean he's hott and all, but looks on their own won't get you a believable performance. The Joker isn't supposed to be really cute, he's supposed to be creepy beyond all reason. I hope Ledger can pull it off, he has some really big shoes to fill after Jack Nicholson's Joker...
- NnyCW, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Only problem is Jack Nicholson didn't really play the Joker. It seemed that it was just him being himself. Mind you that doesn't mean it was bad, and didn't fit well within Tim Burton's world for the film, it's just anyone who's read some of the comics in which the Joker really shines knows that's not as good as it could be. (ie, The Killing Joke)
It seems this movie is going more into that direction and I'm really excited that it is doing so. - mojoe1185, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Thankfully he is going the route of being true to the comic, Jack Nicholson can dance to prince, I'll give you that, but he is no Joker!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Anyone else read it in his British Accent?
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23I'm gonna see this movie.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23The Joker and Batman cuddled in a tent one night after heavy fighting and drinking ...
- navitatl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I'm not a comic book fan, but I'm psyched for this movie. I enjoyed Batman Begins very much
- blackbeardtron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Agreed. I am really glad they went with the dark, gritty feel of the comics in the new films. Gotham is SUPPOSED to be a ***** up place, and the Joker is SUPPOSED to scare the ***** out of you, not be a creepy uncle like Jack was. I'm not saying I disliked the Tim Burton movies, in fact they were the best Batman movies to date before Batman Begins, but I just love the new style that is closer to the dark comics.
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14If Michael Caine is scared of him, he must be pretty freaking scary. That man could be a drag queen and I would not think he's a pansy. Anyway, here is the video of what he said, and it's on an MTV domain so hopefully it will survive:

ha!ha!haha!!! - That is the joker I want to see. And that laugh, is the joker laugh. - pixelate, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Aww, no, no no...
I'm really looking forward to Ledger's peformance too, but there's no need to put down the other movie to get that point across. Jack Nicholson's Joker was perfect for the movie he was in (late 80's camp, Tim Burton's incredible dark-but-goofy vision of Gotham and its characters). Batman Begins and this sequel is a completely new direction, and what Ledger is trying to do sounds perfect for it as well.
People need to rewatch the original Batman... it had it's own charm. Don't get me wrong, I totally prefer Christopher Nolan's direction to 'Batman' and 'Batman Returns', but if people are going to talk about 'being true to the comic', Burton's vision was a lot closer to the world the comic book Joker came from. This new Batman franchise is all about gritty realism, something that the Batman franchise as a whole wasn't really known for until Frank Miller took a shot. - DephexTwin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Man, and you had "Jokebat" staring you right in the face.... the missed opportunities....
- boshuda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8"I wish I knew how to quit you, Batman"
- |ant|, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Boy, you might be legally retarded.
- Bahimiron, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Enh. Nicholson was an overrated Joker.
Heath Ledger will have to pull out a miracle to really beat out the best Joker there's ever been, Mark Hamill. - Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Just as long as he doesn't come across as Freakazoid, which he kinda sounded a bit like in the teaser...
- NnyCW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I really don't enjoy any comics at all, save for a few. (Watchmen, The Sandman, V for Vendetta, Sin City, and certain Batman comics.)
But this really does seem like a good movie that is leaning, as Batman Begins did, towards the good of the Batman comics, so I have high hopes here. - KMartSheriff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Seriously. ***** Spiderman and all the other ones. I honestly hated the string of terrible, God-awful superhero movies...but Batman Begins kicked my ass. Can't wait to see this one.
- thedeevolution, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Mark Hamill is the best Joker so far and was in the best Batman movie to date. That's right, better than Begins. Mask of the Phantasm. I think this sequel will probably top Phantasm, but Ledger does have a lot of preconceived notions of his acting that don't exactly fit the Joker bill. Thus the skepticism. But I have high hopes, they definitely sound like they have it right, and this article only adds to those hopes more.
- markperia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5After Frank Miller reinvented Batman, you can never really go back to the old campy one.It was just so good that it redefined him.
- DephexTwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Since the 60s?
- Epik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6This might sound daft, but I honestly think this film just might shoot to the top of my "best movies" list. Right up there with Shawshank Redemption.
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It seems that all of the male Aussie stars that come here are wankers.
- Azmeos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I love when good looking people go ugly.
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Batman is meant to be edgy. Even the last picture probably wasn't as dark as the comic. The joker is supposed to be "the most murderous psychopath you’ve ever seen", that description is absolutely true to the character.
- bills534, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6are you trying to say he doesnt look creepy? did you see the picture of him in the joker makeup in the article?
- |ant|, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This picture has been around for months and months, and it has been everywhere.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm so anxious for this movie! Ahhhh!!!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4then watch the Fantastic Four if you're looking for lame fruits in spandex.
- nixr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This film looks very promising. I admit that I was skeptical of Ledger as The Joker but the picture in that article alone is enough to quell much of my skepticism. Great find.
- VincentVega12, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5George W Bush then God. In that order.
- Kelmon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm going to sit on the fence for this one. While I did really enjoy Batman Begins I must also confess that I used to love the old Adam West TV shows of Batman. Yeah, they were stupid but then they were also fun and there was a lot to be said for that.
- fishrjv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Am I the only one who thought that Ledger would make an awesome Joker from the moment they announced it??
- Kbennett, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Ultimately Nicholson and Ledger are playing different versions of the same character. Nicholson's performance was great and is still one of my favorites. However, he wasn't playing or being asked to play the murderous psychopath that Nolan is presenting to us. Both Jokers are a combination of the television series and the comic book, but Ledger's joker is much more comic book (the dark conceptualization) than Nicholson's was.
I'm very much looking forward to this film and seeing if Caine is right in his assessment. - gryphonauto, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Sounds awesome!
- mwmccullough, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Amen.

per line? - mozzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Cesar Romero version was enjoyable in the campy version of batman. It wouldn't be fair to compare him to the darker version of the series.
- Obishawn11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Honestly, I thought the same thing too. I figured he would surprise everyone and pull it off. Of course, I never figured they would have the joker as tame as Nicholson was but rather they would go completely crazed and psychopath with the character. And for some reason I could see Ledger playing a good psychopath.
When Batman had Flass (Mark Boone Junior) hanging upside down in that alley and was interrogating him shouting at him in that monstrous voice, that's the moment Christian Bale became the Dark Knight in my eyes - a dark, intimidating badass. I have a feeling Ledge will have a moment like that in this movie too. - parax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Amen! Hamill was the greatest psychopath Joker ever. I'm not even sure that Hamill's laugh can be beaten. I started to think being typecast as Luke Skywalker for the rest of his life actually drove him insane and he started laughing like that all the time so someone just recorded him. Some other things that made his performances so great were that he could instantly switch from cackling to insanely angry.
Hamill's performance in Return of the Joker was priceless. When threatened with death he just laughs "Please, if you had the guts for that kind of fun you'd have done it years ago!"
The whole animated series really sold me on the Joker as a character, especially the addition of Heckle, Jeckle, and Harley. I originally thought Zsasz was the craziest Batman character, but the animated series Joker changed my mind, largely due to Hamill's portrayal. - Justizzle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Now, what would Oscar-Winner Michael Caine do?"
Goddamn, I love Sealab... - tytanium0503, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3wanker is a stupid word
