- jadedsunrise, on 07/02/2009, -9/+35These articles are starting to piss me off. Seriously, so critics have never been wrong before?
I saw the movie last night to see what the fuss is about, and it played out just like I thought. A lot of explosions , robots, stereotypes, and Michael Bay esque shots. So what is the big deal?
It's not that people don't know that the movie isn't bad, it's that people frankly just don't give a *****. When are critics going to understand that the majority of America wants to just sit for two hours with their minds shut off from reality and enjoy something that in no way resembles real life? In that sense, Transformers succeeds. And Critics can whine all they want but ROTF is going to be an all time best seller when all is said and done. - crila, on 07/02/2009, -9/+21Transformers 2 was awesome. I think Micheal Bay sucks donkey balls, but I can still admit I liked that movie. It was just like the cartoons were back in the day, all action.
- REV0R, on 07/02/2009, -8/+19It kind of amazes me how polarizing this movie has been for people. Reading comments on various places like rottentomatoes or other film blogs, it seems like the portion of the general public that liked the film think critics who say the movie is bad should be punched in the face or something.
Action movies can have acceptable plot, pacing, and acting but still be all about action. Transformers 2 was just a terrible movie, no other way to put it. All the amount of robot fighting in the world can't stop it from being a crappy movie. I don't understand how people can't see that. - Bloodwine, on 07/02/2009, -2/+12Terminator 2 = action movie about robots that really delivers and is quite awesome. It is also proof that sequels don't have to suck.
I know not every action movie is T2, but there are some good action movies out there that delivers action, explosions, and yet does not insult our intelligence. - djphilos, on 07/02/2009, -3/+12Has anyone watched a single Transformers cartoon or the movie from the 80? Transformers is not know for its plot or script. Its about large robotss fighting. The movies are great recreations of the cartoons. Nothing more.
- jayselle, on 07/02/2009, -2/+9How many diggers remember the original transformers? I do. Transformers 1& 2 embody the original series very well. It's a great summer movie. Now all you candy ass critics can return to your deep in thought American Beauty films. I, on the other hand, seek movies for entertainment.
- jmdwinter, on 07/02/2009, -2/+9You just don't want to feel like a ***** for enjoying a movie that the rest of the world thinks was a heinous crime.
- bdawg923, on 07/02/2009, -9/+16It's the hot new thing to bash Transformers 2 so apparently everyone has to jump on the bandwagon. I thought Transformers was awesome and Transformers 2 was awesome. I didn't expect an Oscar nominee when I went to see Transformers 2 and it delivered. Jokes, explosions, huge robots fighting, Megan Fox. What else does a fun summer action movie need? People seem very bitter than Transformers is making so much money and they need to get over it.
- rushiku, on 07/02/2009, -2/+8Michael Bay films are fun, but much like Megan Fox, we don't (or shouldn't) expect them to have some deeper meaning, so long as they're entertaining and nice to look at, it should suffice.
You want deeper meaning? Bone up on philosophy and join a philosophy discussion group - and - stop reaching out to movies, expecting them to be a source of enlightenment. - SookIt, on 07/02/2009, -3/+8Well I for one like Michael Bay flicks, gget over it and according to the rest of the world, I am not alone : )
- ShingoEX, on 07/02/2009, -16/+21People who are THIS upset over Michael Bay really need to seek help. They've got serious mental problems.
- Kaiern, on 07/02/2009, -2/+7Armageddon ***** rocks!
- heretrix, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5Bitching about Michael Bay is a drug that people can't seem to quit.
- Paladius, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5I agree. I don't understand what all the slamming is about, I loved the movie. I agree that it won't win any Oscars for acting, but I don't care. I went to see transforming alien robots and explosions, and I got exactly what I wanted. I also don't think it was too long and I never felt like it was dragging. I do admit though, Devastator's dangling balls were a bit gratuitious... I don't think they were meant to be anything more than easy joke though, so don't over analyze them.
- MaxMWood, on 07/02/2009, -6/+10Michael Bay is ***** awesome. There, I said it.
- chriskzoo, on 07/02/2009, -2/+6Michael Bay is wiping away his tears from you guys hating on him with $100 bills.
- Bloodwine, on 07/02/2009, -2/+6I think Michael Bay is a bit of scapegoat. I think people are just really tired of lame-ass action movies of late.
Some issues with modern action:
1. Fight scenes appear to be more shaky/swirly camera and lighting work than choreography.
2. Too much computer generated effects removes all suspension and tension from the movie. If they were to use models and stuntmen then our brains can at least feel that a real human being is involved and is at some real risk.
3. Lack of likable characters. - Ouchimoo, on 07/02/2009, -3/+7BAYSPLOSIONS!!!!
- Bloodwine, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Predator is the perfect example of a movie with a minimal plot, but still manages to deliver. I don't recall any toilet humor or unlikeable characters in Predator.
I genuinely felt sad when each member of Arnie's team was killed off. That is so rare these days to actually give a ***** when a character dies.
Also, the fight scenes were more realistic. We didn't have the whole dumbass, "spin the camera round and round to make it feel more intense! SHAKE THE CAMERA VIOLENTLY TOO!", camera tricks back then. They actually had to choreograph action scenes to appear realistic. - ripple123, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3well, at least the prerequisite to having serious mental problems is having a brain.
- DaNuKaSAN, on 07/02/2009, -3/+6This comment shall now proceed to explode in 23 different ways as Michael Bay flies around on a robotic jet powered unicorn, filming it all.
- chriskzoo, on 07/02/2009, -5/+8Why do movies have to be incredibly deep or have a great story? I tend to look at things like Transformers and the upcoming GI Joe simply as "live" action versions of Saturday morning cartoons and I expect no more from them than to be entertaining - not to make me think. Giant robots fighting is ***** cool - I don't need any deep explanation of their motives, etc. to be entertained by it.
- rewnick, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3I don't think he's THAT upset. You can't tell me it's not fun to rag on something THIS hard sometimes.
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -5/+7Ok let me paste what i said before.
I mean the guy just directed transformers it a ***** movie based on a toy line, the hell did people expect? And i dont know if people remember but the 80's cartoon that we all loved and grew up with wasnt stellar writing either.
And as far as stereotypes in the movies goes...well look to the original cartoon...Jazz the black autobot...Blaster the hip hop street cred bot...Grimlock the functional angry retard...starscream possibly gay. - JarOfEyeballs, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen contained the two movie clichés I despise the most of all:
- The "pain-in-the-ass" government official. He's arrogant as hell, wears a suit and his job consists of making the heroes' job impossible. He wants to disband or take over their unit. Usually, he gets disposed of in some funny way.
- "Resurrection by love". Even though reanimation has failed and the hero should be dead as hell, he's miraculously brought back to life when his girlfriend whispers she loves him and kisses him.
Also, the autobot twins were the most retarded characters since Jar-Jar Binks. Were they supposed to be funny? Well, they weren't! - Jaffy, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2A fun, stupid movie, sure, but four things made me want to boycott Bay forever:
- Transformer testicles - srsly?
- Shia goes to Transformer heaven - wut?
- Illiterate, racially stereotypical, gold-tooth-wearing transformers - No, really, srsly?
- Black guy in the butcher shop, who appears to be dumb as a brick, and sporting 'hilarious' buck teeth for no apparent plot-related reason whatsoever - F you, now you're just doing it on purpose.
I could overlook the first two, but the last ones were just plain insulting - like, Jar-Jar Binks insulting. Not that there has to be a quota, but every significant or intelligent hero in this movie was white, or white-sounding, and every goof, overly aggressive meathead and f***up was a portrayal of an ethnic minority in this movie. How is this material okay for general distribution in 2009? Why is there no Transformer who can't dance, makes banal conversation about his mortgage and gets excited about LL Bean outlet sales? Or is that too low-brow? (/s)
Disgust and disappointment are what I get out of seeing garbage like this, and it tainted what was otherwise a decent summer action flick. - hasslinthehoff, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2There are four points I'd like to make:
1. It's a summer blockbuster
2. directed by Michael Bay
3. about giant ass-kicking robots
4. starring Megan Fox.
If you're looking for something that will bring tears of joy to the likes of Ebert or Turran, then you're an idiot. Go see another movie. - djphilos, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Yes, actually, it can.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3bla bla bla... I saw Transformers 2 yesterday, and it rocked. What are you people expecting? It's a huge movie with kick-ass robots bein' all alieny and blowing a ton of ***** up while having awesome battles with one another. I'm not sure if you guys are meaning to go to a different movie and are going to Transformers 2 on accident? If you want some great story of a movie, dial in your netflix queue or something. If you want a bad-ass robot action movie, go see a flick like Transformers 2. It's really quite simple.
- Willtheway, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Who cares what critics have to say when The Dark Knight didn't win for best picture last year.
- ShingoEX, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3People like something you don't, so you feel the need to be condescending and throw around the childish insults, when, in fact, you're just intolerant.
Get over yourself - PowderedToasty, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4If you know a movie is going to be terrible, don't go see it. It's not Michael Bay's fault his movies are *****, he's making millions. Its your fault for going to see his crap, quit bitching.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Well no, but why else would you see either movie? It's obviously the type of flicks that they are. Fact is, they're damn good for those types of movies.
- DarthTater, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Michael Bay eating a bowl of cereal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXGWZxI9lAs - DrDragun, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4It makes me sad when people believe a movie based off of action figures marketed to 8-year olds in the 80's should have a deep multi-layered plot or deep philosophical sci fi concepts. It's a movie about robots who have space travel technology but for whatever reason feel the need to duplicate 20th century American cars to fight their war. Its junk food for kids (or nostalgic adults) and should not be held up against 2001 or Blade Runner.
And Michael Bay is alright. The Rock and Bad Boys 2 were good entertainment. - drunkirish, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1If that's the entire point of the movie, then yes, the movie is a terrible waste. Like the guy above says, demand more. You're better than this.
- johnnysaucepn, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2Predator? Seriously? 'People with big guns get killed in a jungle' counts as a plot now?
There are science fiction plots with action sequences, and there are action plots with action sequences. No need to mix them up. - Janv1er, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2Megan Fox
- ripple123, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1yeah. it is a sillybadfun romp, but i really, really hate shakycam. they need to tone that ***** down.
- andy9590, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Michael Bay- The junk food director of the century.
- pgouy, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Really, thats not the point. What people are saying is that you *can* do an action movie that doesn't sucks balls! That's clearly not the case with Michael Bay movies in general.
Do you wanna know my gripe with MB? Well its simple: all his movies have the same plot structure, same soundtrack, same sound effects, same 'plot twists', same ending. There are even the same LINES for christ sake!
Every director can make A crappy movie from time to time, but no one can make the SAME CRAPPY MOVIE OVER AND OVER!
He's an awful director, plain simple. - REV0R, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Agreed. I went in with the bar set exceptionally low and still hit my head on it.
- labantnet, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Titties + Linking Park + Explosions= Awesome!
There, fixed. - ProfessorRiffs, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1I know, I know... the original cartoon was so much more mature and sophisticated...
/s from a major G1 fan from the day. - BigPapi, on 07/02/2009, -1/+2It's a simple movie about robots beating the ***** out of each other. They're not exactly going for an Oscar here. Michael Bay is the perfect director for these movies. Stop whining.
- jaimequin, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Total Recall , Predator, Die Hard, Robo Cop, Matrix and recently the new Star Trek just to name movies with actual plots and kick ass action. Why apologies for Micheal Bay when he clearly cares nothing for plot. The guys who wrote the new Star Trek also wrote ROTF and you can tell Micheal Bay never read the story line or script and just wanted to blow ***** up.
***** Micheal Bay - Moocowz, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1except that they're going to give the GI Joes robot suits, WTF?
- FenianNProud, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1I'm expecting Devastator not to be turned into a giant vacuum cleaner and Soundwave not to have been relegated to receptionist.
I wasn't expecting a lot from the film, but what little I was expecting wasn't delivered. Instead I got leg-humping robots and giant brass balls. - AndrewRidgely, on 07/02/2009, -0/+11) Critics can (and often do) say it was a mindless action romp while still pointing out that it's not a great contribution to human art endeavors
2) If all you want is a mindless action romp, why are you worried about reviews of the movie anyway? You know that type of movie doesn't generally rate high unless it's unique or interesting in some other way. - jupiterkansas, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1
