- simondotcalvin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+73FTA: "This summer’s blockbuster has finally arrived people. Only it’s not a mere blockbuster, it’s a two and a half hour atomic bomb… strapped to a roller-coaster… filled with snakes… on fire!"
If nothing else, you've gotta admire the enthusiasm. I'm sold... - fcbfan, on 10/11/2007, -5/+64saw the movie today (Australia) its ***** better than I expected...you guys are gonna like it a lot! Megan fox is hot as! and every time i heard optimus say "Autobots...transform!" it sent chills down my spine..
- toolegittoquit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+38Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) has such an amazing voice. He can truly make a wolverine purr.
/man crush - empressofmetal, on 10/11/2007, -5/+32Finally!!! A summer blockbuster worthy of the title. This should definitely break some box office records.
- caddyalan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23The movie is receiving a premiere at Anime Expo 2007. That's one place to find the sort of fans who aren't just interested in an action movie, but who actually remember the television series. In short, a tough crowd to please.
- decay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18So far so good...
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_the_movie/ - j4son, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Your exact recollection of Titanic's domestic gross voids any credibility you may have had.
ps
How do you know he was referring to that record specifically? You used it as an example as if it was referred to. Stop trolling. - mt066, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"Dad, what is that robot doing?"
"Uhhhhmmmm.....he's uhhh......hey! That one can turn into a truck!" - pathy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Not masterbastars!
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13#1 movie of the summer
- decepticrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Yes, Juxtaposed.
- Snuff99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8HOly Sh*t. I'm now in overload! Can not Wait!!!!
- scottauth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I recently purchased the Transformers video game for XBOX360 (It's not as bad as the reviewers are saying) and they had the original Megatron voice actor provide his vocals! I was surprised, because he's not doing the movie, I really wish he was. Hearing him and Cullen again felt amazing.
Side note, can we stop using the phrase 'destroy my childhood' -- your memories are cemented, those times are past! Get over it! - Fatticus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Giant robots throwing tanks. How could it be bad?
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Saw the preview screening last night, and I can agree that Transformers was ***** incredible. It's exactly my childhood.. I'm.. I'm so happy..
- devlsadvocate, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11I saw it last night at a prescreening and let me say, it is definitely worth seeing! The special effects and action scenes were incredible to say the least. However, I wouldn't recommend taking a little kid to see it; there are definitely plenty of curse words thrown around, as well as sexual references including masterba****. Not something I'd want a 6-year-old asking about.
- bongowaxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'm fortunate enough to work for a newspaper and was granted access to the screening with a friend...
I grew up playing with Transformers, watching the cartoon, watching the movie, clipping the stats off of the back of the box the toys came in, saving all my red pieces of decoder plastic, switching the stickers on my Transformers and making intricate double crossing story lines when I played with them... I'm a Transformers nerd in EVERY sense of the phrase....
What I'm going to say, is something I definitely thought I would never say... but... Michael Bay has made the PERFECT Transformers movie. If I go into any detail, I'll spoil it... but TRUE FANS WILL NOT BE LET DOWN. Go see the movie.
Don't listen to "OptiMuSbOi82" on some stupid ***** forum or some *****. Just go see the ***** movie... Goddamn, it was awesome. - razor150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The reason why the Autobots, including Bumblebee, are GM cars and trucks is because they were paid to make them that. I actually like Bumblebee being a Camaro, but Jazz not being a Porche is the real sin. Talk about a huge drop on the coolness factor.
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Holy crap! You know, if there weren't other positive reviews out there (Variety for instance), I would probably not take this review to heart, considering just how glowing it is. There aren't a ton of reviews yet, however, every one so far has been positive and made it obvious that A) they didn't ***** it up, B) it's actually well worth the admission price for the effects alone but C) the story and acting are actually good for a summer blockbuster.
Someone above mentioned this breaking box office records. Despite what the "Bay will rape our childhood" crowd says, if this movie is as good as the reviews so far make it sound, this really does have the potential to destroy records. Think about it: giant robots done right! Are you kidding me? I don't know about the rest of the world, but kids _and_ adults in the US and Japan will jump all over this movie, bigtime.
"Autobots, transform!" - dirtyhand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6"You shoot, I'll drive!"
- nephilonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yup, I saw it here in Sydney the other night, absolutely kicked my ass more than any other movie this year. I was really surprised how good the movie actually was, like the reviewer I thought it would be lame and was just hoping for some cool CGI, but it really delivers the bad-assery I hoped.
And it's pretty damn funny too. - audiowizard, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8shut the hell up you mindless goon
- pirategaspard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+51) Yes. but listen carefully. When transformation occurs the classic sound is mixed in with other metal moving/gears/machine sounds but its definitely there. Easiest to hear during the 1st on screen transformation
2) No, but the GM product placement is very obvious - NeoTEKK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I....I...I think I'm going to cry. Tears of joy of course. See, I've been tracking the development of the film since the days it was "rumored" to happen. Before Peter Kullen was announced to be auditioning for the famed role, before it was released that Bumblebee is a camaro. My only question is does Hugo Weaving (aka "Agent Smith" ~ Matrix) do Megatron's voice justice? Btw...in case you guys are not aware already. Frank Welker -original voice for Megatron- provides the voicing for him the TF the game (not too mention, for you true TF fans...the ability to unlock Generation 1 characters as well - sweet)...*sighs* Can't wait to see it this weekend.
- halosniper7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"bearings of titanium"-beast wars
i was watching beast wars on youtube when i heard this^. i was like whoa. - shauncorleone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Be honest: If he does comply, you'll do the same. It's called "A regular Friday night".
- jcdickerson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Saw it last night - even my WIFE (who is NOT into this type of thing) REALLY liked it. For me, it was... well, all I can say is it's been three years since I paid to see a movie a second time. I'm lining up Tuesday night to see it again.
- dieselstation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Transformers = Dreamworks = Paramount Pictures = Blu-Ray Discs baby! I Cannot WAIT to watch this movie over and over on my HDTV.
- jsballardx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I saw the movie last night and I walked out completely blown away. It was an awesome movie and I had been on the record as saying that Bay would bend my childhood over its clown bed and rape the ***** out of it but he did a nice job. There were 2 parts that made you wish he hadn't done that but then I could see why he did this. I don't want to say too much because I would hate to give away anything but it really was a very well done movie. Special effects were amazing and there was a story and characters that weren't over the top like in a lot of Bay movies. The only thing I wanted more of was a little more flushed out character of the transformers. The Autobots needed a little more personality but they had the same personality from the cartoons which was nice. Decepticons were ***** mean which I liked.
I'm going to see it when it again when it officially opens. - potterboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Wow, I always thought of him as a positive!
- sixthgear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Important question: does anyone say "Let's burn rubber?"
- rsdigi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6My advice to you? Go outside and get some sunlight and fresh air dicky. Then get your facts straight and get off the frontrunner bandwagon of haters. Bay made Bumblebee a Camaro for size reasons, and also to keep away comparisons for Herbie the love bug. The VW rumor has long been settled, where have you been?
- neuropsychguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I've never seen what the big (negative) fuss over Michael Bay has been about. He makes good action films. None of them so far have been great movies (IMHO I thought Michael Bay did a great job with The Island. It wasn't perfect but it actually was a good movie.) but most have been OK. Anyway, my philosophy is to always give a movie a chance, regardless of the director's past transgressions, er, films.
- vypergts, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yea I was pretty pissed about having to wait in line next to a family with an impatient 6 and an 8 year olds. Honestly those parents suck because not only did they not care that it was PG-13, the first thing they did when they came in was load the kids up on ICEES, popcorn and candy. Luckily the movie rocked but those ***** were totally out to ruin the experience for everybody else...
- SpectralSounds, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4RottenTomatoes is probably the best movie review site there is. Usually, its pretty damn accurate.
- sark666, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I was just thinking, you know else had a cool ass voice in transformers. The guy who narrated the episodes, Victor Caroli. You know, the first voice you hear in the cartoon movie, "it's the year 2005..."
Maybe they thought his voice was a little over the top, but it would have been cool to hear him as well. - GutterMoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4except for the fact that there are other vehicles. Like jets and oh look a Ford.
- kirkness, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3its still lame. size reasons? the new Beetle is a decent sized car. and Herbie? give me a break Herbie is a classic VW and looks nothing like and is a lot smaller than a new one.
while I'm at it... Not a Cab-over truck? BLUE with RED FLAMES?!
I"m sure the movie is awesome and everything it should be action and story wise, but still these were 2 SIMPLE things they managed to ***** up.. (VW reasons, whatever ok, but what was the excuse for gayifying Optimus in truck mode?) - KoZo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Saw the movie! Effects alone is well worth the money. Megan Fox is very hot. Shia is quite funny, dorky, and corny at the same time. It has quite a lot of cheesy moments but you can forget about it once the movie progresses.
- xxTazxx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Is that the one in the Excel centre (London)?
I might go there just for that, its on the 21st of July I believe!
That, and dressing up as an anime character ¬¬ - kirkness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2because Fords are EVIL! lol
i think its funny too that all the Decepticons are military vehicles. I wonder if anyone will view the portrayal of US military as villains is unamercian. (if they are US military haven't seen it) - SailRacer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Fantastic review!
- vypergts, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Same here, caught it on Wednesday night. It was AMAZING in every sense. I loved the acting, the action sequences were insane...It's just incredible. I can honestly say I am considering forgiving Michael Bay for Pearl Harbor because of this movie. The only thing I would harp on was that it seemed like some of the locations were inconsistent (like being in San Fran one second and being at the Hoover Dam the next) but honestly it was so much fun I didn't care.
- jcdickerson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Umm, it's coming out Tuesday night. You have to wait
- louiedog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The kind of people who don't insist everyone is wrong about Norbit and that it's a severely underrated movie.
- bubba9999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You guys are scaring me. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the possibility that a Michael Bay movie doesn't suck.
- NeoRicen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, this film is certainly targeted towards teenagers and fans who USED TO BE kids in the 80s, not a kids movie (a whole string of dialog about masturbating).
- NikZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Acutally, to be pedantic, he said "Autobots, roll out" not "Autobots, transform" - but it was indeed spine chillingly awesome. There was also an "Autobots, recon", and "Autobots, something something" that I can't remember. All of which gave me goosebumps. ;)
- SPARTACVS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Everyone was afraid Bay would screw this up, but now I'm thinking that this was the perfect sort of movie for him to do a good job on. Everyone was scared cause he's infamous for gratuitous action just for action's sake (the island... main characters falling off a sign on the side of a building... throws in some exploding helicopters for good measure). Only thing is that Transformers is the perfect movie for that over the top brand of directing, and as long as all the other aspects of the movie besides the director stay true enough to the original series, people who loved it in their childhood will have geekgasms just from the nostalgia.
- kirkness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 i remember thinking the GM thing and actually writing about it on my blog but isnt there a Ford Saleen Mustang in it tho?
