- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The Thing i cannot stand is when they use Kids Whispering something to make it seem scary. it's so frickin fake that i think about how fake it is and don't pay attention for the next ten minutes.
- gaijin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The cliche' that really grinds my gears (and it's not limited to horror movies) is when they investigate a strange noise and the damn cat jumps out of the closet - from under the bed - off the roof - wherever. And it's ALWAYS a cat! It's never a dog or a squirrel. How about a 35 pound, enraged raccoon? Now THAT'S scary!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6how about american horrors based on asian movies?
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't know why I even clicked on it, I don't even watch horror films. They bore me.
The only one I liked was Shaun of the Dead. A romantic comedy with zombies, it's fantastic :) - Protonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I hate how there are always a group of people and only the 2 main characters survive.
- TheWarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Serriously man...or theres always that one ***** that just wont die and he ends up being the hero or something in the end. That pisses me off too.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Saw was horrible. The acting was embarrassing.
- mercatfat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't mean to point out the obvious, but we're talking about a list of cliches from a magazine that thrives on cliches. I wouldn't take it too seriously, M. Night fans.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5How about sci-fi cliches:
1) The aliens always seem to speak English, usually with some kind of American or English accent, or Australian on Farscape. "I have a question, why do we all speak with a British accent when we're in outer space and there's no Britain?" - Thumb Wars.
2) Caves on alien planets have spiderwebs, but how do we know that spiders exist on every planet?
3) Aliens always say "I can not" and "I do not" instead of "I can't" and "I don't"
4) An episode called "Chimera" (Stargate SG-1, ST:Deep Space 9, X-Files)
OK it's not a great list, best I could do in a hurry :P
Feel free to add to it so someone can copy/paste it onto their blog, surround it with Google Ads and submit it to Digg next week :) - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35: Terran spaceships are always rusty. Corrosion required oxygen last time i checked...
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think hillbillies will ALWAYS be scary.
we allow them to vote for the President too.
scary. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wasn't aware M. Night's movies were supposed to be horror films. More like intelligent suspense mysteries.
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have a feeling that people were influenced in digging this story because Maxim was in the title...
- gaijin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nope...the word "horror" snagged me!
- electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1High Tension, Descent, Audition
- socbret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well crap, maxim is blocked at work.
- mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What was the most innovative recent horror movie in terms of new horror tricks?
- SeanMoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg for the Shocker reference & pic
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0So...scared...
- the_penguin_boy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4This guy obviously never realized there's a *reason* those techniques are used in horror movies: they're scary. (duh) And I'm with Livewire. M. Night is fracking awesome.
- ottville, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd say young british girls are getting old and worn out in horror movies
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How can you have a topic "Circus/Clowns" and not reference Killer Clowns from Outer Space. Greatest movie...wait, I better stop there.
- hardturtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's apt that maxim left of nudity as one of their cliches(even if they did put in shower scenes).
- timmclargehuge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well its supposed to be a let down. You don't want an actual scary animal.
Although I do like when its someone playing a prank and that person ends up eviscerated later on. Death: the ultimate punk'd prank. - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The image of Ripe Boobs and thight asses immediately popped into my head when I read Maxim
- opencoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0all true! its why I hate horror. But Saw kicked some serious arse. I didnt figure it out until the very end. When the kid picked the recorder out of that guys pocket. However, Saw II was disappointing.. I figured it out about half an hour in... I hope Saw 3 rocks like the first one.
- Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4being M. Night is a horror cliche? gimme a break, the guy makes good movies
