- 11familyguy11, on 11/11/2007, -0/+45I have actually liked Mark Wahlberg's movies so far. I think he could make a pretty badass Payne. I'm not going to write this one off as suck until there is more information.
- noseeme, on 11/10/2007, -3/+23Wow, he kind of looks like him, too.
- chris9902, on 11/10/2007, -0/+16It is now. The first game went into development before The Matrix (before that film made bullet-time famous). And now Sin City has been done it doesn't have any unique features. Shame really since it could've been so good.
- BreathofCepheus, on 11/13/2007, -0/+14Well.. it's a better choice then Timothy Olyphant as Hitman..
- runhard, on 11/10/2007, -0/+12Why not Max Weinberg?
- donkz, on 11/12/2007, -0/+12I fell in love with Mona Sax playing MP2. That chick is unbelievable.
- BETRAMS, on 11/13/2007, -0/+11As much as I like Mark as an actor.. This movie has suck written all over it.
The Max Payne story is a game that has been seen in detective movies many times over.
Make a movie. Make a game based on a movie. Make a movie based off of a game that is based off a movie.
Hollywood is running out of ideas. - smokeyjohnson, on 11/13/2007, -0/+10How about another max payne game instead.
- gn0stik, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10You sir, win the thread. Take a bow.
I just hope the movie is as immersive as the thread, and that Wahlberg can pull off Payne's deep, brooding, tormented, nature. For some reason, I'm skeptical. I always imagined Mickey Rourke, or maybe Michael Madsen, and directed by Tarantino. Or here's a thought. They could actually use James McCaffrey, the actor who donated his voice to the character in the first place. It's not like he's inexperienced. He's a regular on rescue me, and I've seen him tons of times on other shows. I think he'd pull it off flawlessly. Who knows the character better than him? But of course they want an A list guy, who could potentially ruin the film. - Bologner, on 11/10/2007, -1/+9http://www.payneandredemption.com/
This looks better. - crichton101, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7Parody? I've played both games and I can tell you they aren't parodies. Homage would be a much better term to use, because Max Payne isn't a comedic game, which is what a parody is, a comedic take on something.
Here's the definiation:
a Parody (or Lampoon) is a work that imitates another work in order to ridicule, ironically comment on, or poke some affectionate fun at the work itself, the subject of the work, the author or fictional voice of the parody, or another subject.
Max Payne is done in a Film Noir with the combat system done directly in the style John Woo. The game is no more a parody of John Woo movies or Noir movies then John Woos movies like Hard Boiled are parodies of American action movies. - Ghoztt, on 11/09/2007, -0/+7http://danae1.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/117.jpg
He's going to have to squint like that for a full two hours to convince me he's Max Payne. :D - Zeonix, on 11/10/2007, -1/+6Max Payne is definitely going to whip out his wang at the end of the movie, and stare at it in a mirror.
- peeinian, on 11/10/2007, -0/+5Isn't Wolverine like 5'2"? If we go simply on height Cruiser would have had to play him, and nobody needs that.
- Halfling64, on 11/10/2007, -1/+6Film noir Marky Mark Wahlberg in bullet time?
Hell yes. - Portwineboy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5It was the cliched aspect of it that drew filmmakers to it in the first place. I used to work for a film company that looked into buying this.
- insllvn, on 11/10/2007, -3/+8I dunno, have you seen shooter? I am not a fan of Wahlberg, but he pulled that off pretty well.
- noots, on 11/10/2007, -0/+4whoever is playing her in the movie better get naked.
- DeadManWalking, on 11/13/2007, -1/+5Jason Statham for Hitman!
- crichton101, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3Looks like him yeah, but I don't know about his voice. It would be a bit like Keanu Reeves as the Joker, with all the make up on, he would look right, but the voice (and in Keanu's case lack of acting ability) would be a hard fit.
- crossower, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3Care to elaborate as to why that would be?
- centran, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3As much as I liked Max Payne the video game I don't think it will carry over into the movies.
The story is not a problem. That can be adapted really nicely. It is the quirky dialog that will never make it as a movie. People just wont tolerate it.
They could make a good movie out of it but fan boys will scream and yell about it not being like the game. In that case I say shut the hell up. Do you want a crappy movie just like the game or do you want a good movie? I'd rather have a good movie. - norman619, on 11/10/2007, -1/+4Care to give us a link that shows this is true?
- Christbait, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3This is gonna suck.
Like the Hitman movie, and respective to how the video games were conceptualized, it could have been art-conscious and well executed if given to some of the talented European/US film production companies, but no, they have to throw it over to Hollywood's "finest" and the result? A ***** big-budget, no-brainer macho piece of ***** that does no justice to the series or fans of the series and is just there to rake the cash in for these fat-ass directors.
Sorry, but I'm just saying. Movies of video games always blow ass because most of the film producers buy the licenses and just throw up the meat of it and just get the film out of the way, if they know it's an action game, then they'll just make some inane, generic trash, they have no idea of some of the rich creative aesthetic that is involved with writing video games and how it's just like that of other types of artists. They just treat it like a big joke and laughing all the way to the bank. - rzurad, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Not true. After the movie is released, Hollywood will probably want a Max Payne game that is based on the movie that is based on a game that is based on a movie.
- DJCult, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Didn't he do Talk Soup?
- insllvn, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2*****. http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/72/80/00/10f.jp ... That is the guy who does the voice in the games. Explain to me why they even needed casting.
- wushu18t, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2because he's already got a huge demand to fill for max on max porn.
- insllvn, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Sorry about the link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0061055/ that should work.
- PBerger, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2I completely Agree about using James McCaffrey. Part of the awsomeness of Payne was his voice. McCaffrey has a good look for Payne too. To bad no one invloved with the movie would go for it.
I think Gerard Butler would make a good Max Payne as well. He's got a good voice and look for the role. Plus after 300 People will easily see him as a tough guy. - norman619, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2It ran out of ideas a decade or two ago.
- Godlesswanderer, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2The link isn't working but I know who you mean and I agree with you. I don't understand why they didn't go with him as 47. He even asked for the role but whoever was controlling the casting (I forget) just said no and didn't give an explanation.
- paulg2000, on 11/10/2007, -6/+8So let me get this straight: a videogame that is a parody of John Woo movies is going to become a movie itself. Hmm. Well as long as it doesn't end like Boogie Nights did it might be ok... I don't need to see that thing in slo-mo.
- techmonkey4u, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2Aye, he was quite the affable hitman in The Big Hit.
- JoEBlack982, on 11/12/2007, -2/+4Yup. Here's who should have played Hitman
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1684481913 ... - crichton101, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2amen to that.
- norman619, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2You just described most videogame/comicbook based movies done so far.
- Crosshare, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Was anybody else hoping for Nate from Six Feet Under?
http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/img/episode/season ... - Schmidtopolis, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Or at least show some under-boob
- crichton101, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1very good point.
- crichton101, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Hal looks right, but his voice really wouldn't fit.
- harryrick, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1On the subject of games being turned into movies, hows about a Deus Ex movie? Anybody?
- harryrick, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1On the subject of games being turned into movies, hows about a Deus Ex movie? Anybody?
- ericmoritz, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I always pictured Edward Norton as Max Payne, don't know why.
- Sedako, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Or how about David Bateson, the man who provided both the voice and character model for Agent 47 in all the games.
http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/2218/bateson4hy ... - danconia, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Meh. Max Payne was never good-looking when I was playing him. Timothy Olyphant would have been a good choice (barring the fact that he got picked for Hitman)
- PayneX, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I knew it!
- preshit, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2Don't click on the link. COPY it and paste it in the address bar.
- whojaybe, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1yeah, i don't know about that... but let's hope it doesn't suck! um, even though the chances are probably rather high...
- tgelston, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Can I just take a moment to vent about one of the boss fights in MP2 - the one where the guy is throwing unlimited dynamite at you while you need to shoot out the support wires of balcony thing he is in. It just really struck me as a totally cartoony. Granted the whole game wasn't so great but that part really bothered me.
