- compgeek, on 04/13/2009, -0/+22How did they even win the first case is my question. They paid someone to commit a criminal act period. That should have not only been thrown out of court but both the person bringing the suit and the "hacker" who reconfigured the mail server as he did should be arrested. What they did is not only invasion of privacy but also theft as well. They were stealing all the email not just emails related to the case but EVERYTHING. It amazes me that the RIAA can get away with this then keep it tied up in court so that they don't get *****.
***** ***** this is. - Citruspers, on 04/12/2009, -0/+19I was trying to be funny, come on, give me a break. =)
(yes, I know about the firefighters who burn down strokes of forests to prevent wildfires from spreading.) - gcnaddict, on 04/13/2009, -2/+19haunt, maybe? I mean, unless there's a hidden herd of lions and winged horses I've yet to see...
- xmonster, on 04/13/2009, -0/+13I hate when my past comes back to hunt me
- norman619, on 04/13/2009, -0/+12Last I understood you can't present edivence which was obtained while willfully committing a crime. Why the MPAA wasn't sued for this I don't know.
- Noliaboy75, on 04/13/2009, -0/+12does he like fishsticks in his mouth?

- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+10Nice, so hacking and theft is okay if you're the MPAA and you're doing it to prove copyright infringement..
So just to get this straight.. the MPAA can blatantly break criminal law and get off scott free but if you infringe copyright.. which is not a criminal crime (like hacking) you must go to jail.. and they wonder why people pirate.. just another example of bourgeois oppression. - staticfire, on 04/13/2009, -1/+7he likes them in his ass
- Chaotyk, on 04/13/2009, -0/+6Wait... what? They pay a hacker to steal e-mails, go to court, and somehow they walk? Who was their lawyer? He must be able to get anyone out of anything.
- paulhickey, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5then he's a gay fish
- ilikeeggs8877, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5we know how to search the internet. thanks

- tito13kfm, on 04/13/2009, -1/+6It was Johnnie Cochran. He used the Chewbacca defense.
- norman619, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4It's also not legal to break the law to try and catch a copyright violator. Yes. It's not even a criminal offense.
- Cbappa, on 04/13/2009, -1/+5Dogs will haunt. wait...
- MrMischief20, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Reported! :)
- mrsteveman1, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3No, if chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit.
- newl, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3If the fur doesn't fit, you must acquit?
- Noliaboy75, on 04/13/2009, -2/+5this guy can shampoo my crotch
- draculthemad, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3They probably made the argument that someone sold it to them post-facto, and that they didn't commission the person to commit the act and were not involved in it.
Sounds like a failure of the TorrentSpy lawyer to pick a better/applicable argument. I am sure their is existing laws against buying information you know was gained through a criminal act. - yellowsnowman, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2The MPAA needs to go away. May they get cancer and die a painfully slow death. God bless.
- mleh, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2Are you too cheap to use another 'o' in too?
- snatchmstr, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2So it's just stealing from one company and selling to another. Hardly sound legal nontheless.
- peteyb1313, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2alright used it in proper context, i like it
- mrsteveman1, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2Not in a house.....
- jparkinson, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1so wait.. the guy just forwarded their e-mails?
what kind of grade 10 hacking is that *****?
from the sound of the article the guy already had access to the mail server because he was an "associate" of the torrentspy guy...
hardly hacking.. - gcauthon, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1*Hut*
- Barackalypse, on 04/13/2009, -2/+3Preserving liberty isn't a petty agenda, but it is rather amusing hearing that from a guy wishing for the ability to punch people he disagrees with.
- thepyro, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2Just add ©2009 to the end of each email and your all set. :)
- peteyb1313, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Was it supposed to be "hunt" or "haunt"? Maybe the hacker they hired was a hunter and he started to hunt down each member of the MPAA after they didn't pay him the second half of his $30,000 deal.
- stoitofardo, on 04/13/2009, -1/+1Let's hope they lose.
- deademery, on 04/13/2009, -1/+1MPAA’s Hacking Past Comes Back to Hunt Brown Bears in Slovenia.

- wikinerd, on 04/13/2009, -2/+1ar u rlyz
- insidius, on 04/13/2009, -4/+3Can you people please ***** right off with these sort of ***** comments. Why must you people be so sad to try and bring your petty agendas up at every chance you get. Its laughable that you take even the shortest piece of string to try and somehow connect these articles to whatever ***** point you are trying to make.
Digg is not a soapbox for your political conspiracy theories or down right backwards rednick hick political statements. When the hell is someone going to invent something that lets me punch people in the face through the net so that I could just sort you guys out for the good of everyone. - ivanalbright, on 04/13/2009, -2/+1Sounds like the hacker is the one TorrentSpy should have sued first, not the MPAA. Once the courts determined the information was stolen, TorrentSpy could then go after the MPAA for purchasing stolen information or hiring someone to perform a criminal act.
- Barackalypse, on 04/13/2009, -6/+4Too bad for the MPAA they aren't the Government, because then the Obama administration would have declared the warrantless hacking a State secret.
