- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+74I keep my movies in a Hard Drive that is encrypted, that's kinda like a vault
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -5/+61I told my wife about the MPAA making the unlawful copy of that movie and her words were:
" Did they sue themselfs? "
LOL, I was cracking up for like 3 mins. - xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -7/+61The MPAA can choke on a donkey dick.

http://www.slumdance.com/blogs/brian_flemming/archives/001953.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24excellent, they've officially lost!
If they ever start suing users, you can literally just cite this and tell them that you keep it in a locker. Or better yet go out and buy a vault to keep your pirated cds in!
I doubt it would hold up in legal court, but it definitely wins court of public opinion. - Hegemony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Well, I'm off to get a vault.
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Yeah, I'll just post pictures of my wife so the collective Internet can jack off to it.. no thank you. (PS, i know you were joking )
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21make sure you get one with a Firewire jack on it
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Let me guess, you typed that as she was looking over your shoulder.
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Ok... so I keep my copies inside a computer that is hooked up to the network always running inside of a vault ( drilling for cables out the back ).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"Even after this, MPAA is still a lot better than the RIAA."
thats like saying
This Horse crap still taste much better than this Deer Crap - Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10+Digg for the use of the word cartel to describe the MPAA :)
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Moral relativism is pretty awesome, dude!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Heat-fried HD's anyone? ;)
- Nerys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Was it a burned disc or stamped ? if stamped it probably has CSS encoding and they violated the DMCA by copying it. (THE DMCA HAS NO STIPULATION FOR FAIR USE)
- Benzido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Double-standards are not the same thing as moral relativism.
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7PC with password = Vault. Nice! Thanks for the great tip MPAA man.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10really? you sure she didn't say "themselves"?
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Most of the time I would say.. thats going way to for for me.. but... this is the MPAA... so yeah, I'll agree.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7it's not when the owner of the content specifically denies permission to make any copies whatsoever.
- HonoredMule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Like how?
The Tallest: "Worse? Or BETTER?"
...It's not stupid, it's ADVANCED! - osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Thanks to them and the RIAA I stopped taking copy right laws seriously. I used to be die hard copy right holder. Followed the letter of the law.... Intell they proved to the world that copy right laws are completely relative. That copy right laws can be, and are how they are interpreted by the group with the most money. After I watched them remove all of the end user's rights for the sake of greed. Copy right laws right now are a joke... because of the MPAA and the RIAA. As soon as they stop being truth bending, truth spinning, rights removing, lieing, greedy retards then I can think about respecting copy right laws again.
- sylar3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5YES!
- bliz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4in short,
MPAA = Pirate - randomc0de, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm not surprised that everyone is jumping on the MPAA, but I am surprised that not a single person has pointed out their argument is correct - under standard fair use practices, making a personal copy for backup and archival purposes is most definitely not a violation of any copyright law. The representative from the MPAA was simply assuring the video creator that the copy was only for backup/archival and wouldn't be used or distributed.
The real irony is that the MPAA did distribute copies of the movie to several studios and various members, yet no one knows, because this "news" is covering up the real story. They're probably glad that no one's aware of that little gaff. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Every day more and more info comes out that makes fewer and fewer people want to take these ***** seriously!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lol. A link to a link to a 401 error.
- michelspc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Even after this, MPAA is still a lot better than the RIAA."
That's like comparing dog ***** to cat *****. In the end, you still have *****. - jftitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So... when the MPAA or RIAA come knocking on my door, to sue me.. I can rebute by saying... "Oh, don't worry, I keep all my pirated copies in a safe, so no one else can get ahold of it." So it makes it legal?
Man, Kirby, should have taken them to court, went public (ok, this step done). This country is just plain.... fun... I mean it. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8LOL! Thanks for the laugh.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does the MPAA mind it if I keep mine in the Disney vault?
*copies disney movies - chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"If by vault they mean my ass, then yes they can keep stuff in my ass."
I'm sorry, I think I must be confused.
Did you just invite the MIAA to dump in your ass? - dstywho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Even after this, MPAA is still a lot better than the RIAA.
- chogie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3if that defense would hold up i expect to see a lot of case mods made from safes
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i don't understand. how is it steeling? all that happens is people make copies of the movie. where does the molten metal coating come into play? or were you talking about people mentally preparing themselves for a difficult task?
or maybe you meant stealing. - nullynull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I bet Thomas Edison thinks they're hypocrites ;P
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Do they consider a hard drive a vault?
If so than my ***** is locked up like Madeleine Albright's... oops sorry kiddies I'm not going there.
:7) - bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mpaa needs to be locked up in a vault me thinks, oh for good measure throw in the other ***** **AA too
- DephexTwin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Were you cracking up at the fact that she didn't know a basic word like "themselves"?
- vguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds like a double standard to me. They do whatever they want, openly. While the rest of us get to face jail time, if caught.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you must be new to digg. That happens all the time. It means the web site was dugg hard.
- t3soro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3you messed up there buddy
- alphadog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where is the lawsuit? It is a slam dunk case. The lawyers for the MPAA have already admitted to copyright infringement. Can anyone explain to me in a way that makes sense; Why is it OK for the MPAA to illegally copy movies, and the public can not back up DVDs that they legally own?
- Iconwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ugggg, I hate computers some days. Let's try it again.....
"Where is the lawsuit? It is a slam dunk case. The lawyers for the MPAA have already admitted to copyright infringement. Can anyone explain to me in a way that makes sense; Why is it OK for the MPAA to illegally copy movies, and the public can not back up DVDs that they legally own?"
They didn't admit to copyright infringement. They admitted to fair use (they likely did commit some copyright infringement, but they didn't admit to that part o fit). The problem here is you have already bought into their argument that what they did is wrong. What they did isn't wrong unless you agree that it is, in which case you voluntarily validate their argument and voluntarily cede your rights to them. They'd love to be taken to court and lose this case. They certainly have the pockets to afford whatever financial punishment and fines they are hit with. Meanwhile they set they very precedent they've been hoping for all along, to destroy almost all vestiges of fair use the rest of us have been fighting for all along. But by all means, drag them into court and beat them for their "crime", but don't come complaining that you have to pay WalMart $1.95 to play your DVD on your iPod and $3.95 to play your DVD on your computer. After all you have the honor of knowing you "punished" the movie industry for "stealing" someone's movie (even though whatever fines the industry incurred will quickly be more than compensated by the extra $2-4 you are forced to shell out per DVD to use it the way you might want to). - shade88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0encrypted HDD? what are you afraid of? you know if the mpaa, or riaa retardedly catch you d/ling anything naughty and take you to court that you must provide the encryption key or you'll likely get in more trouble than just a fine correct?
unless you're doing it for work related issues, or have something reallllllly secret that you'd be wiling to go to jail for not providing a key to drive encryption isn't very useful on a computer hdd.
I obviously use it on my usb and laptop in case they are stolen or I simply lose them, but its not likely you're going to get your PC stolen or misplace it.
P.S. RIAA/MPAA are the most retarded agencies in the history of humankind.. - Iconwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, mediaphile, that is an incorrect assumption and the very argument the MPAA has been trying to use for years. A content owner cannot dictate copyright and fair use law any way they wish on a whim. See here:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20061024/113745.shtml
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20061115/013623.shtml
for some arguments of why this is so. Randomc0de is correct in his interpretation that the MPAA was within their "fair use" rights (but like he said, if they distrubuted copies to studios that's another matter). I'd like to see the MPAA sued because they would WIN. Except they don't WANT to win a case like this, because it would set exactly the precedent they have been claiming is false for years. - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You my friend, are one seriously deluded young man (or woman. or old man or woman. or whatever)
