- rebotfc, on 03/30/2009, -9/+214Funny how simulated gay sex gets a NC-17 rating but simulated heterosexual sex is all pervasive.
- gbj13, on 03/30/2009, -11/+169I am so going to watch this when it comes out.
- shutaro, on 03/30/2009, -9/+151***** THE MPAA!
- ptheroux, on 03/30/2009, -5/+128Funny how films are always "slapped" with an NC-17. NC-17 is never "awarded" or "bestowed".
- STBAT25, on 03/30/2009, -1/+120Yes because a lot of theaters won't play NC-17 films.
- Infowarsdotcom, on 03/30/2009, -4/+105I love the message that MPAA sends...
Violence is ok as long as parents approve. Sex, however, will get your movie banned from being shown in almost every theater in the country.
Violence on the scale that it's presented in Michael Bay "movies" (I use that term loosely) is something most of us will never partake in, but it's ok to simulate. Sex is something 99.999999% of us partake in, but simulating it will get your movie banned.
"Hey kids, it's ok to know 52 different ways to decapitate a hostage! But if you ever see a penis going into a man butt, raptor Jesus will hunt you down and eviscerate you in the night." - copypastry, on 03/30/2009, -1/+67and what's the deal with airline peanuts
- homercles337, on 03/30/2009, -1/+61I think he just needs to add a few people getting their heads blown off to bring it down to an R-rating.
- maxtrix, on 03/30/2009, -5/+60didn't I see you in Borat?
- DaRizat, on 03/30/2009, -0/+53Bruno makes me nervous because I legitimately think he might be killed at any moment.
He pushes people so much farther with Bruno than with any of his other characters. - DiggasWAttitude, on 03/30/2009, -0/+52They had you at 'appears to have anal sex with a man on camera.'
- snookky, on 03/30/2009, -1/+53it got an NC-17 rating because the sex is gay. if it were between a man and a woman i guarantee your it would have only been rated R.
- anarchyinthekr, on 03/30/2009, -0/+52thank you jerry seinfeld
- anteup, on 03/30/2009, -0/+49Beat me to it. If it was hetero sex no one would bat an eye at it. Or two faux-lesbians, even.
- thebrokenlight, on 03/30/2009, -0/+43I am so going to come out when I watch this.
- pradaaddict, on 03/30/2009, -1/+40Then you live in the Red Light District.
- Reveillark, on 03/30/2009, -1/+39ach ja? or nish nish?
- nix64, on 03/30/2009, -0/+34Have you seen "Zach and Miri"?
- Frankyfan3, on 03/30/2009, -1/+34No I want to watch it even more!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/ - miquonranger031, on 03/30/2009, -0/+32Ever seen the documentary "This Film is Not Yet Rated"? One of the conclusions they make is that the MPAA automatically rates explicit straight sex R and gay sex NC-17.
- CoD4, on 03/30/2009, -1/+33surprise buttsecks
- DAC1138, on 03/30/2009, -1/+29and grapenuts. You open up the box...no grapes...no nuts! WHAT'S THE DEAL?
- inactive, on 03/30/2009, -0/+27Keep in mind that he is mocking peoples' stereotypes of gay people, not gay people themselves.
- SpykerSpeed, on 03/30/2009, -3/+30As a gay man, I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should find Bruno hilarious or offensive. I'm erring on the side of hilarious, because I'm not so stuck-up that I can't laugh at stereotypes.
- RegalBegal, on 03/30/2009, -2/+27Then don't. It really doesn't matter either way.
- monkeystick, on 03/30/2009, -1/+26Exactly.. if it were anal sex with a female camera operator or sneaking naked into a tent full of girls it would probably just be given an R rating.
There is a great film about the hypocrisy within the MPAA rating system.. very entertaining and informative:
"This Film Is Not Yet Rated" from 2006
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/ - Frankyfan3, on 03/30/2009, -0/+24"Now" I want to watch it even more!
Damn Mondays. - humperdeath, on 03/30/2009, -2/+25Higher? You mean the dreaded NC-21, or the NC-30? How high does it go anyway?
- BrewBeau, on 03/30/2009, -0/+22What's with Ovaltine? The package is round, your mug is round. Why don't they call it Roundtine?
- JessicaSarahS, on 03/30/2009, -0/+20I remember some simulated, heterosexual anal sex happened in Summer of Sam, not to mention numerous references to anal sex and that was only rated R.
- pradaaddict, on 03/30/2009, -0/+20Brokeback Mountain featured gay anal sex as well. It's all about genital exposure during sex. If there's none it's rated 'R' if there is it's rated 'NC-17'
But what do I know. The MPAA is so ***** up with their ratings board it's impossible for any movie producer to know what's okay and whats not. I think they should appeal the decision. - BobMysterioso, on 03/30/2009, -0/+18re: "Zack and Miri" didn't they make a porno?
- miquonranger031, on 03/30/2009, -0/+17Heterosexual anal sex usually gets R nowadays. Homosexual sex, no matter what, gets NC-17 if it's at the same level of R-rated straight sex.
- nix64, on 03/30/2009, -0/+17@BobMysterioso: Yes...and there was anal sex...and it was only rated R...which was my point.
- clemsontigers, on 03/30/2009, -0/+17Borat was R, and films can still make a lot of money with R, but not NC-17
- Christ0s, on 03/30/2009, -0/+16its amazing how far sacha baron cohen is willing to go in character for a joke. I mean you naked into a hunter's campsite and you're gonna get shot.
- guinpen, on 03/30/2009, -0/+16I think that's exactly what parents are afraid of- people can't fathom actually being in a situation with such mass death and ridiculous violence, that it seems absurd, but if a penis goes into a hole that's right behind another penis, oh god, my kid actually might go through with it!
- leif77, on 03/30/2009, -0/+15Maybe they'll have some wholesome disembowelment or decapitation to even it out...
- CubFan185, on 03/30/2009, -0/+15I find that odd about Blockbuster because last time I was in there they had Pirates 2: Stagnetti's Revenge, which is essentially porno with good production and special effects. Although it was straight to video so they don't go through the MPAA. A bit contradictory on Blockbuster's part.
- inactive, on 03/30/2009, -1/+15Bruno likes to get slapped.
- myempyrean, on 03/30/2009, -0/+14***** the NINJA TURTLES!%?
- tdogg241, on 03/30/2009, -0/+14Don't ever go see an NC-65 movie. Trust me.
- snookky, on 03/30/2009, -1/+15I saw a Spanish film last night called Bad Education, it was NC-17 and it never once showed genitals. it had sex scenes with gay and transgender people. yet movies like jackass and scary movie can show dick (in a non homosexual scene) and get away with just an R rating.
- vectoor, on 03/30/2009, -0/+13In sweden borat was rated as fit for all ages (Yes, even for children under 3 years old), since the system only measures violence and not nudity...
- Skywise, on 03/30/2009, -5/+18Somehow I think even simulated heterosexual anal sex would still get an NC-17 rating...
- FeargusMcDuff, on 03/30/2009, -1/+14YOUS TROLLIN
- pradaaddict, on 03/30/2009, -0/+12Thats my second point. The MPAA rating system is completely arbitrary. There is no defined set of rules of what is allowed and what is not.
- Bidofthis, on 03/30/2009, -0/+12This Film is Not Yet Rated
