- MavRevMatt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+65As always, ***** MPAA.
- reeder, on 10/11/2007, -5/+57I love the MPAA. Their philosophy is to do the same thing over and over, expecting different results. In the scientific field, the technical terminology for that would be "mentally retarded."
- metalica77, on 10/11/2007, -8/+51Just to be fair i dought anyone actually read that book from the photographs or is reading it currently. A book must be enjoyed either in audio form ie.audible or a solid book in your hand. It is absolutly retarded that the MPAA sues over everything they can get there grubby paws on.
Doesn't MPAA stand for "motion picture assosiation of america" not Book assosiation of america? Last time i checked - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36DEVASTATED? so what, the publishers are going to sell 1.3 billion copies instead of 1.4?
I expect most of the freaks who scrambled for early reads of it are still going to buy proper hardcovers when they come out anyway. boo hooo. - Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29Actually, no, that is one of the signs of insanity.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Doubt. Association.
MPAA stands for "in cahoots with the RIAA to steal all your money." Yeah, I know, they don't even know how to properly create an acronym. I hear that they'll be combining to form the MAFIAA ( http://www.mafiaa.org ) pretty soon. - Cerialthriller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Next: MPAA sues Digg because of comment related to harry potter.
- kweee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18MPAA kills Hermione.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17erm
what the hell does the motion picture association of america care about books? don't tell me they are that ***** stupid - Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16MPAA about a book? Can't they just mind their own business (literally)?
- Merkidemis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Like there is a danger of it not selling extremely well.
- E7ernal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9OMG, Just read the ending: Turns out Harry's real parents are black!!!!
- orlyfactor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Oh I am sure he can console himself by rolling around in his millions of dollars. I'll send a gift basket though, he does need emotional consolation.
- MindTrigger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Am I the only person who is baffled as to why people would post spoilers online at random like this? Some of you ***** seem to act like whatever happens in this book is the same as posting the DVD codes. Most people don't give a ***** about the book (like me) but those who do, don't want moronic children posting spoilers. I'm just trying to figure out why this is a 'cool' thing to do. Are you 'sticking it to the man' or something? Seems like wasted effort to me.
If you want to be such a little rebel, at least get a real cause, like joining the anti-BushCo movement. - Bokista, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The real pirate? It's Captain Jake Sparrow, mate.
- bobbytuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Sweet mother of god. What in the holy mother ***** does the MPAA have to do with a *book?*
And Glickman is not devasted. ***** that. Glickman is rich. Rich people like Glickman do not get devasted. They get richer. - tfedullo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4sorry to be the exception, but i did read it from the photos, but i do plan to buy it though
- Twinked, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wish I could retract my Digg of the first post and give them both to you.... you are correct, the first post was just funny.
- theholycow, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5For sure, anybody who would slog through a badly photographed book with missing pages, is such a huge fan that they're going to buy the book.
Looking at it from the other direction...Anybody who's not a big enough fan to buy the book if they've gotten a pirate copy, is not a big enough fan to go to all the trouble to read the pirate copy that was distributed. - Cerialthriller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4you do realize that your handle is the band that is one of the RIAA's biggest supporters? They even tried to sue a swedish couple for naming their son Metallica..
- houndeyex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The people who don't buy the book probably don't fully intend to read it anyways. I can see some people downloading it just because it's available, and they can say they have it. But in reality it'll just sit on their hard drives. Who wants to read a book on a computer screen anyways? Not I.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3regardless of harry potterpiracy this book is still going to crush sales. unlike the garbage music industry consumersof harry potter actually care about the characters and they respect the author. when is the last time you've seen jk rowling on cribs or in rehab or doing coke? that's right. maybe if musicians gave ***** about their work and their fans they wouldn't have to worry about piracy. ***** the mpaa
- ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Usually all the pirates come from within the companies that have the information in the first place anyway, that's how it almost always happen, right? It's easy for those within to do so
That said, I agree that those who read the leaks will still be the ones who buy the book anyway. Book fans are collectors, not pirates in general - ChristBehemoth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I was a little sympathetic towards JK Rowling and Bloomsbury coz the book was leaked. now with MPAA in the scene, I pity on myself for even caring.
- kmcniece, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I guess I am just confused. I thought Harry Potter was about witches and wizards.... what is all this pirate talk?
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The entire book is now typed in PDF format.
You don't have to use the crappy JPGs anymore. - simpleid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@zybch's
Actually, that's not true; and what you said is only an expression of your perceptions, which says you would never purchase something even if you respected the artist/auther/director.
I just bought a few cds the other day actually, with only the intent of sharing my money, not because I feel guilty, but because I want them to continue making more...
Most of us can't deny we enjoy being paid doing what we love most. :-) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Next to Next: Someone posts the story - "MPAA sues Digg" on Digg.
Next to Next to Next: MPAA sues Digg because of comment related to "MPAA sues Digg"
Next to Next to Next to ..... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Well I pirate a LOT of content off the net which I then buy later!
There are TV shows, albums and movies that I'm not prepared to drop a large amount of cash on till I've seen them first.
Were it not for the net and the ability for me to literally try-before-I-buy I would have spend one HELL of a lot less on legal works. As an example I've just bought both British series of Life On Mars, something I'd have never even looked at twice unless it was via bittorrent.
You might also want to take a look at what happened with the latest Michael Moore flick. It was heavily pirated, but in under 3 weeks since its release in the cinemas its already in the top 5 most successful documentaries of all time. All the piracy did was to generate one hell of a lot of free buzz and publicity that would not normally be there.
Its time the RIAA/MPAA/whoever else started to realize that piracy has exactly the opposite effect they claim, and that this is being proven again and again.
They need to get with the times and stop being ***** ***** about it! If they can't modernize then they deserve to die the death of one thousand cuts (a death which has already started). - beepimajeep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2***** lame submission. When will diggers learn to make objective submissions
- PaperMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2For the love of... people, is it really that difficult to understand? If people are actually that eager to pirate a book then when the movie comes out it will be 100 times worse... They are simply trying to do something half way intelligent for a change and, as per usual, are screwing it up royally.
- avnerlevit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3***** you RIAA
***** you MPAA
you two mean the same to me. Die. - SocialPoison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Heh... and you thought "Snape kills dumbledoor" was a spoiler...
- chicoer2001, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4It's sad that the main stream media doesnt report on the hypocrisy of the MPAA. If the MPAA can make a copy of a movie does that mean that they dont mind if people make a copy of a movie?
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Same here.
I heard they were online and downloaded just to see if it were true. Read chapter one (said to myself I will give myself a little preview) I just couldn't stop, I finished the book a few days later. IMHO its the best book so far - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You can now get the thing as a text file, or a PDF. A little army worked together, each person transcribing several pages to plain text which has then been assembled.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Except that, in the world of 'teh internets', there's a freedom of information (including media) that's never existed before.
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its a great effort those guys put in. The spelling however is terrible. You can tell they are in a rush. I am sure someone will take their torrent and go through it again and fix the grammer spelling etc. Then it will be awsome :-)
- TexanPsycho, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not only is it the wrong medium but Harry Potter is also English. It might as well be called BAOE or, simply, *****.
- Cerebral, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Difference is that they have PERMISSION to make copies of movies. Same as the studios doing so. If you OWN it or have PERMISSION to do so, then you can make a copy.
- toast1226, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I got a clean PDF copy which I read on my bed through a laptop and it was just as easy to read as through a book.
- davewashere, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The leaked photos will not even put a scratch in book sales. There will be some lost sales due to piracy, but those pirated ebooks will be done properly after the book is officially released. Nobody wants to read 700+ pages of a poorly photographed book, although a few people have anyway.
- Cerebral, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's possible that you didn't read it because I think that J.K. gave her fans what they wanted with this book.
- bernerbits, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ouch. Spelling this bad before my morning coffee.
Seriously man, take 7th grade English again. - Ardiea, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have never meet anyone who enjoys reading books (pdfs) on their computer. Let alone crappy PHOTOS of books.
- UnstableMind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's JACK Sparrow, or am I not getting a joke? Digg down if so...
- origclubsoda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Both parties, dumbass.
- kungfujedis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1MPAA? Isnt that the MOTION picture association of america? why do they care about a book?
- Cerebral, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just so those who didn't read it know... Only 4 whole pages and some words here or there were actually unreadable.
Best book so far and I will be in line tonight as well waiting to purchase a copy. I actually just planned to get a "head start" on everyone else but seriously could not stop reading the thing. It really is that good. - mewhunter67, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yep... same here.. friend gave it to me in pieces, spent days going over it... and i really cant wait to stand in line tonight, and spend my money... thats what they want anyway, right? theres some who might question the morality of this, of course, and i will admit i feel slightly guilty about reading it ahead of time, but i dont plan to tell anyone the ending or give any hints as to what happens. the same friend told me, only a true fan would even sit there and read thru almost 800 pages of blurry garbage to just do it.
