- strangewill, on 10/29/2007, -1/+195Duh, total piracy worldwide is 200%.
- shiftt, on 10/29/2007, -1/+137Wasn't China the largest source of piracy just a few months ago? Maybe China, Russia, NY and Canada all border each other...
- mrmagenta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+81someones got the figures wrong, BUT I HAVE THE REAL ONES:
NY:40%
Canada 70%
China 76.786%
Bloomington, In : 23.211%
Phoenix, Arizona : 0.003%
the list goes on
but the totals add up to 262%
***** grabbed the wrong list, this ones from the MPAA - kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79"We're good at movies, not geography. Ok, we're not so good with movies either. We'll sue you!"
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+75So the pirates give 110%, what's the problem?
- EchoSpree, on 10/29/2007, -3/+61I'm not even sure exactly how anyone could believe Canadians would perform 70% of movie piracy.
Do you Americans have armed guards protecting your theaters or something? - Alex76, on 10/29/2007, -13/+70Well, when you consider that New York borders Canada, it is mathematically possible that the 70% of Piracy cases are actually caused by 40% of New Yorkers who cross the border to engage in nefarious activities lol
- Toloran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51You have to take in to account Canadian American exchange rates. So 70% in Canada is only like 28% in America.
- ran24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4340% of WORLD piracy from ONE state reeks of ***** immediately.
- plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43You all have it wrong...
Canada accounts for 70% of piracy
New York accounts for 40% of piracy
That totals 110%... Which *obviously* means that piracy has gone up 10% from back when it was only 100%!
Geez.. where'd you guys learn math? School? - Battleloser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43I think the only logical solution to this problem is to hand over 1/4 of New York state to the Canadian government.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38"There are three types of lies - lies, damn lies, and statistics." - Lots of Dead People
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32It's been proven that 47.6% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
- ch4os1337, on 10/29/2007, -5/+31well it is 100% LEGAL to film movies in Canada. but, if you get caught they will kick you out. (obviously)
- Kallstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I think you guys missed the whole point of the article... Piracy is now spanned across multiple universes.. Creating a completely new breed of super pirates capable of pirating other pirates.
- BostonLow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Extra extra! Bush sold NY to Canada to fund war efforts!
- rig0rmortis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Well obviously it doesn't add up. That makes 110%...
- wiirdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Maybe 10% are Canadians that live in New York and are counted twice. ;)
- EJTower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Might I suggest Western New York be turned over to Canada? Here in Buffalo we drink Canadian beer, concern ourselves mostly with Hockey and movie piracy on the high seas of the great lakes. Besides we are less than a mile from Canada anyways.
- carbon12, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20The MPAA/RIAA are just angry at us Canadians because our supreme court refuses to condemn piracy no matter how much these big corporations try to lobby. Sorry but despite our proximity to the US, our government/legal system isn't as nearly as ***** up as theirs.
Canada Rules! - dfthd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Piracy doesn't justify lying either. And while pirates are cool, liars are...just...liars.
- tazx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15As if cams/telesyncs make a big dent in theatre attendance. They are *horrible* to watch. Those that consider them a sufficient way to enjoy the movie would be unlikely to pay for it in the first place.
- Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18delto posted: "YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU SPENT SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS MAKING A MOVIE, AND PEOPLE DIDN'T LIKE IT ENOUGH TO GO TO THE THEATER AND SUPPORT YOU?"
reply: Oh and you think that I should risk waste a small percentage of my hard earned money on a movie that just might suck? ***** NO.. and ***** YOU! - djphatjive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18***** the MPAA!! If i was ever a director I would never let them touch my movies.
- Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15We'd rather have Alaska... and Point Roberts, just 'cause it makes sense.
- hitori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14But sadly then your movies wouldn't see the light of day...
- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Dugg for "Blame Canada." Damn you Canucks and your delicious maple syrup!
- FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Sorry for the double comment -- ran out of edit time. ><
Original 50% pirated in Canada was claimed by Fox.
http://www.cynicsunlimited.com/2007/01/25/the-movie-industry-threatens-canada-foolishly/
Current 70% was claimed by Warner Bros and was for Warner Bros films only.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070509/ap_en_mo/canada_film_piracy
The only MPAA stat was the 43% of pirated movies in New York.

So really, we're looking at three different "studies" by three different bodies. Still, it begs the question of how accurate and trustworthy these studies are. - andyeddy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12The media made a huge mistake when they dubbed it online 'piracy'. Everyone wants to be a pirate.
If they'd called it movie 'faggotry', everyone would still buy their *****... - zanzzz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11First it was our jobs being exported to other countries and now our pirates! I think piracy should begin at home. If we try I think America can regain the lead in piracy and with it all its related benefits.

Disappointed in my ***** movie? - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Roberts
Wiki link for everyone who didn't know what the ***** Point Roberts was, like me 30 seconds ago. - mrgreen4242, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU SPENT SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS MAKING A MOVIE, AND PEOPLE DIDN'T LIKE IT ENOUGH TO GO TO THE THEATER AND SUPPORT YOU?"
Like I should make a better movie? - splash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11but what about the Fox news poll that showed 150% of Americans voted?
- weebit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I think it is time for the MPAA to prove their claims.
- Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8*reads the topic*
NOOOOOOOO SHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!! - specialK16, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"the kid have to cross the border twice to go to school."
OMG illegal immigrant, shoot him on sight!

I'd be pretty upset. But then i'd I'd cut back on the spending and concentrate on making a movie people actually would pay to see, not bully them into buying something they don't feel is worth it and have seen over and over again. For the most part, people loved the first Clerks movie. And they had like a $10,000 budget. Nobody liked the new Star Wars movies (for the most part), and they had a huge multi-million dollar budget.
The MPAA guilts people into buying their cookie cutter movies. Maybe if a decent movie was made, they'd see an improvement in ticket sales. - yoda17, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8
Everything above 100% is what they steal from you. - radio1mike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, aren't we all supposed to give %110 in everything we do?
Canada and New York just happen to share the workload! - tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ejtower
Hell yeah man, hell yeah. Canada is just like Downtown Buffalo/Niagara Falls to us. And if we become part of Canada, we can rid ourselves of these current global affairs. Then we can drink Molson and watch CBC Hockey Night in Canada without the commentator putting a anti-US biased spin on every Sabres game.
God damn you Ottawa. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6*GASP!* You mean...the MPAA would lie to us about movie piracy?!? It can't be!
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the mpaa will just nuke new york. problem solved
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?nid=114&sid=1130323
And here's the MPAA saying 40% of *all* films are pirated in NY. If these are the two statements in question, they don't conflict.
70% of WB's films + 40% of all flims < 100% of either WB's or all films.
If these are the stories these blogs are actually talking about, I'm gonna have to call this one inaccurate. - Suplyndmnd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5but really isn't everything from the MPAA redundant?
- CalgaryTechGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The MPA? who? Last I heard, they were an American organization with no standing in Canada (or in most other countries in the world).
Do the really want me to boycott all American movies, like I am Warner Bros (for the reason see: http://www.digg.com/movies/Canada_hit_with_ban_on_Hollywood_movie_previews )? - katulatakulu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4They keep telling me "you wouldnt steal a TV set...", but I steal TVs all the time.
- FunkyNuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Buried for duplicate story. Are some of you just ignoring the notice that your stories have been posted before?
