- analogkid01, on 07/17/2008, -4/+389The quote's from Empire, the thumbnail's from A New Hope. *sigh*...
- hpymondays, on 07/17/2008, -3/+327Damn, you spoiled it for me with the Star Wars plot twist - I was planning to rent it this weekend, now I won't.
- TrevorBelmont, on 07/16/2008, -5/+316In the entire Star Trek TV series, no one ever said "Beam me up, Scotty."
I'm sure that some will refute this statement. I invite them to offer proof. - archer104, on 07/17/2008, -1/+179~use the commas luke~~
- gtluke, on 07/17/2008, -5/+174oh my god
try growing up with the name luke explaining how that line doesn't exist
thank you - MSstar, on 07/17/2008, -2/+139MY EYES, THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING
- CoronaVegas, on 07/17/2008, -1/+110"Luke, I am your father" is from Tommy Boy, not Star Wars.
- Janizzary, on 07/16/2008, -4/+101What about "We don't need no stinkin' badges!" from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre? The actual quote was "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!"
- whodat807, on 07/17/2008, -3/+97That is an abomination of a sentence.
- jimmiejaz, on 07/17/2008, -3/+94http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beam_me_up%2C_Scotty
the exact phrase was never actually spoken in any Star Trek television episode or film. Captain Kirk comes closest to saying the phrase in the Original Series episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion", by saying, "Scotty, beam us up"; in the animated episodes "The Lorelei Signal" and "The Infinite Vulcan", when he said, "Beam us up, Scotty"; in Star Trek IV, saying, "Scotty, beam me up"; and in Star Trek Generations, by saying, "Beam them out of there, Scotty". - YancyFryJr, on 07/17/2008, -1/+79Given the subject matter of the article, it's kind of ironic.
- praisethelard, on 07/17/2008, -2/+77That's not true...that's IMPOOSSSIBLE!!
- dpcdomino, on 07/17/2008, -0/+66But they did say it in Blazzing Saddles...
- appleseed1234, on 07/17/2008, -0/+60~Luke, the Punctuation will be with you... always~~
- BottomTicket, on 07/17/2008, -20/+79Buried, for the Field of Dreams quote because both lines are said in the movie
- analogkid01, on 07/17/2008, -1/+54buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut that's the actual line.
- InYourHonor, on 07/17/2008, -0/+51well I feel like a douche bag, I think I have used every single one of those misquotes.
I feel dirty. - efitz11, on 07/17/2008, -3/+54why didn't anyone tell me my ass was so big!
- djbuffnstuff, on 07/17/2008, -5/+55snape kills dumbledore.
- NathanielJ, on 07/17/2008, -1/+48Did you live in a cave prior to 1997, by any chance?
- timothycrash01, on 07/17/2008, -0/+45What about 'Badgers?! We don't need no stinking badgers!" from UHF??
- pt4117, on 07/17/2008, -2/+43That isn't what he said. He was supposed to say "...a man...", but he didn't actually get it out right. He misquoted his own prepared line, but I guess he was a little nervous.
- lordzelo, on 07/17/2008, -1/+41Good one. When I hear people quote it they say "The goggles, they do nothing!"...
- Rhendal, on 07/17/2008, -5/+40Monty Python and the Holy Grail - "I'm not dead yet!"
It's actually just "I'm not dead!" You could make this list just misquotes from Holy Grail, there are so many. - cdigioia, on 07/17/2008, -2/+37Probably...in AFGHANISTAN! OMG he's a terrorist!
- maurin, on 07/17/2008, -3/+37thank you. the first proper use of 'ironic' on digg in months.
next week maybe effect vs affect - Stonekeeper, on 07/17/2008, -1/+32+1 nerd points
- UtopianComplex, on 07/17/2008, -0/+30you saw tommy boy before starwars?
Uncultured Swine - ho0ber, on 07/17/2008, -1/+315. "If you build it, they will come."
Actually, this is the line from Shoeless Joe, the inspiration for the movie. So people aren't necessarily misquoting the movie, they may just be quoting the book (which is a beautiful book with a lot less cheese than the movie). - floridiot2, on 07/17/2008, -0/+29La Lu le Loooo Laaa LLuuuuuukeee
- OtterStratton, on 07/17/2008, -1/+28@appleseed
The punctuation is...strong with this one. - theghoul, on 07/17/2008, -0/+27Yeah, that was me, sorry.
- blankis, on 07/17/2008, -5/+31I'm pretty sure the idea is for people to read the article.
- fanclerks, on 07/17/2008, -0/+25"I'm not even suppose to be here today!"
Gotta be my fave. :-D - joecastle, on 07/17/2008, -0/+24And don't call me Shirley.
- LuxFX, on 07/17/2008, -3/+27I like it better without the 'a'. It's more poetic. I've always interpretted it that "man" refers to the species as it exists at that moment, and "mankind" refers to the path of the species in history. I've always liked how it felt like a subtle evolution reference.
- j0etb, on 07/17/2008, -0/+24That's no punctuation!
- diggdowner, on 07/17/2008, -3/+23Just unlucky timing on my part (it wasn't there when I posted), coupled with a digger not realizing that the whole point of the article was MISquotes...
p.s. go 2 hell lolz. - EVILKILLER, on 07/17/2008, -1/+21I can't find "If you build it they will come"
http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/f/field ... - inactive, on 07/17/2008, -0/+19How about that time I got a salmon helmet from Muhammad?
- diggdowner, on 07/17/2008, -15/+34This isn't a movie, but...
"The goggles, they do nothing" - minc727, on 07/17/2008, -2/+20Just to clarify, it is not said in spaceballs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJzgdSvRezg (skip to around 1:20) - Armen138, on 07/17/2008, -0/+18the Snowwhite fairy tale is a lot older than the disney movie, and has been rewritten by dozens of authors. Who says everyone is quoting the movie?
- beatleman, on 07/17/2008, -0/+17In all fairness, most people quote it the way Neil Armstrong said it (without the "a"). Later he said he was misquoted and NASA covered for him by saying static must have covered up the word "a" in the phrase.
Video and audio: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a11 ...
Pretty ballsy cover-up considering the phrase sounds crystal clear (and wrong) to me... - fanclerks, on 07/17/2008, -11/+28And quoted wrong right below the correct one.. bravo sir! That must take some skill.
- CLShortFuse, on 07/17/2008, -9/+26"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind"
Seriously, without the "a" it wouldn't make sense, yet people continue to quote it like that. - dougd3345, on 07/17/2008, -0/+17You wanna know how I know you're gay?
- hayes321, on 07/17/2008, -0/+17You know how to quit me?
- GliTCH82, on 07/17/2008, -1/+17You forgot number 9. "If I had to read this goddamn *****, so should everyone else!" Classic.
- beatleman, on 07/17/2008, -1/+17You say it as a joke (I assume), but I remember I was in line at the movie theater to watch Episode 4 for the first time when they did that re-release in 1997 and a friend of mine really did spoil that twist for me.
I had seen Chris Farley do the talking-into-the-fan gag in Tommy Boy, but at the time I thought he was just saying gibberish.
I still enjoyed the trilogy, though... -
