- dupems, on 04/25/2009, -3/+106I pretty much lost all faith in humanity many a year ago, while reading reviews on yahoo movies:
"I just got back from seeing U GOT SERVED!!!!!!!!!OMG!It was off da chainz! It makes you wanna get out of your seat and dance...If you\\'re into hip/hop and all that straight hood stuff ,then you\\'ll like U GOT SERVED....GO see it, because its crazy ...."
I don't think I need to elaborate on this. - loneraver, on 04/25/2009, -1/+87the website was so boring. I couldn't read it. Too many references to other materials. You should just read Harry Potter instead.
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 04/25/2009, -16/+83Yeah, not just movies, and a lot of these are subjective.
Everyone has their own tastes. The only genuinely stupid people there are those that:
A. Completely miss the point (I.E. taking a comedy seriously)
B. Insult other people who like it
C. Base their claims off of inaccurate information
Of those, I myself hated The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit, and The Catcher in the Rye (although it should be said I merely disliked this book, until it came time that I was forced to read it for the third time). I'm also not a big fan of any of the music listed.
I'm probably going to get buried hard, but that's how it stands.
Half of those I never even saw/read anyway. - rjinso, on 04/25/2009, -0/+65Not just movies - literature and music, as well.
- Peko, on 04/25/2009, -2/+62I dont understand why people think google is such a great sight. Everybody I know says it's a good sight but it's really boring and stupid. You can type in any word and google will download a crappy list of stuff on the internet. And its all words with only a few pictures. Google should pay attention to a company like Youtube which is way more awesome because Youtube has movies.
- Nateon, on 04/25/2009, -0/+55I can't help but facepalm at some of these:
On The Great Gatsby:
"this booke is very stupid, just like all the other secular writers out in the world. quite frankly, they should not be writing about “worldly” things that do not affect people in any way whatsoever! after reading this book, your life will be the same as before you read it…why not read a book that will change your life and the way you think of things? what book is this? it is “THE BOOK”… the BIBLE! God loves you no matter what, but why not give your life to him as he gave his son for you? God Bless You and May Your Days Be Bright!!!" - dupems, on 04/25/2009, -4/+54The guy behind this site is trolling you. Hard.
- DrCyclops, on 04/25/2009, -0/+41Even I'm not self-righteously elitist enough to think that all of these are real opinions:
"I returned it (2001) shortly after that and rented Mortal-Kombat 2 which was way more realistic with better fighting."
But I admit that when I got to the Lolita reviews I raged. - tkeajax, on 04/25/2009, -0/+38 "Jimi Hendrix has to be the most over rated guitarist ever! Not only does his songs make no sense, but he can’t solo to save his life! I’m sick and tired of these retro wannabes saying how fabulous he is!
For good guitaring check out Limp Bizkit, Nickelback, Disturbed, Korn, Kid Rock, Staind, Creed, and Metallica’s St Anger Album.
Oh, and Lenny Kravitz is GOD compared to this rip off! "
LOL - AndrewDB, on 04/25/2009, -2/+33We killed the site.. :(
Maybe not.. and Oh my Entity Above.. what the Hell is this:
On Dark Side of the Moon:
Pink Floyd! Holy Christ, they’re the worst band EVER! I mean EVER! OH MY GOD! GROTESQUE! THEY’RE HORRID! WOW! MAKE THEM DIE ALREADY! GO CREED! GO CREED! GO CREED! - jeremyosborne81, on 04/25/2009, -1/+32Obvious troll.
- fivefootfour, on 04/25/2009, -0/+30How do you criticize something for not being the bible?
- Arsenard, on 04/24/2009, -0/+29Insensitive clod!! You obviously do not get-it!!
- MrJosephHenry, on 04/25/2009, -1/+22'I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, maybe I missed something, but I thought this was the most pointless, boring, and redundant book I ever read." Yes. You missed something.
- nights777, on 04/25/2009, -2/+232001 is interesting...it's just not for the audience nowadays...
- gregdlewis, on 04/25/2009, -0/+20alternate title: reviews of classics as written by children.
- newman328, on 04/25/2009, -1/+20You want to be depressed? Read Netflix user reviews. The No Country for Old Men page had me pulling my hair out.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -2/+21While I love The Hobbit, they ARE right about it having too many details. There were times when what was in parenthesis was so ***** long that I'd have to go back and read the first half of the sentence again so the rest of it would make sense. lol
- Mankind121, on 04/25/2009, -2/+19Its blasphemy to talk ***** about 2001
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -3/+20People who don't share my opinion are STUPID!
- OpaqueMurdock, on 04/25/2009, -2/+18Yeah, well maybe that says more about the "audience nowadays" than it does the film. ; )
Believe me, I know that 2001 is a challenge and requires an investment in time and attention... but many very worthwhile things in life are challenging.
My guess is that if it takes more than 140 characters of text to type up a summary of a film, many people "nowadays" won't bother with it at all... and thats a sad trend if you ask me. - Gosunkugi, on 04/25/2009, -1/+17"These old talentless hags (The Beatles) will never be as great as their idols Oasis! Oasis are one of the best “classic rock” bands ever, aside from Metallica, but St. Anger is pretty hard to beat. Anyway, this whole album is boring and uninspired with weak songwriting. All of the songs sound the same! Why is this two discs?? It’s two discs full of DUNG!"
Yeah, okay, this one is clearly a joke. - darthrevan00m9, on 04/25/2009, -0/+16Little known fact: All of these reviewers were the first in line to see Hannah Montana: The Movie a couple weeks ago.
- bobbi21, on 04/25/2009, -0/+15You know these are ppl who go around insulting ppl for reading like the newspaper cus it doesn't talk about God's love in it.
- Leminnes, on 04/25/2009, -1/+16Dude, MAYBE you think it is boring, I dunno, but JRR Tolkien influenced a whole GENRE. Personally, I love his books, always will, but he is certainly not overrated, despite your opinion.
For a weird comparison, I'd say Tolkein:Fantasy::Beatles:Rock. Just in my opinion. - tmyprod, on 04/25/2009, -0/+14Holy *****, I raged at the Jimi Hendrix section.
Most of them have to be trolls.
http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=13062#more-13062 - SirBruce, on 04/25/2009, -6/+19Some of those reviews were obviously put-ons, but others are depressing. Some people just don't get it.
However, The Great Gatsby *is* a godawful novel, and no one should read it. - superterrorizer, on 04/25/2009, -0/+13"If you want good guitar, try Avril Lavigne, or, the masters of Metal, Limp Bizkit."
I threw up in my mouth a little after reading the Hendrix reviews. - Fentekreel, on 04/25/2009, -0/+12It could have been the poor explanation of why it was good instead of the interweb sensationalization :)
- FishHammer, on 04/25/2009, -0/+12I'm burying your post for not being a scripture passage.
- Pillage, on 04/25/2009, -0/+12I had faith in humanity until they suggested Casablanca be colorized.
- geoken, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11The problem is that you fail to understand the importance of hip hop dancing and the grave ramifications of "serving" or having "got served" by said dancing.
Basically, your all important "cred" is inversely proportional to the amount and brevity of "servings" you've been subjected to. - Dumbledorito, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11This reminds me of the MST3K version of "Laserblast," a cheesy sci-fi movie with claymation aliens and some kid with a laser weapon on his arm. For fun, during a few of the more boring segments, Mike and the Bots consulted Leonard Maltin's movie guide which gave "Laserblast" two and a half stars. They then looked up other movies that Maltin had given equal praise to as the schlock they were watching, which included: Amadeus, Baghdad Cafe, Being There, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Marathon Man, The Name of the Rose, Sophie's Choice, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
All according to Leonard Maltin. http://mst3k.booyaka.com/episodes/guides/reference ... - wgoron, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11The one I prefer are the music reviews.
For example this review of Dark side of the moon is genius.
"This cacophony of commie buzz words and simplistic, condescending communist ideals both offends me as an American, and as a music listener. Should’ve been called Red Side Of the Moon." - Zihuatanejo, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11I agree, the fight scenes in Mortal Kombat 2 were way better.
- MasterPain, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11I don't know alot of kids don't know ***** about music. They may actually think Oasis was out first. I know my other brother thought Tiffany recorded "I saw you standing there" and the beatles were ripping her off. Haha.
- fantasyflamz, on 04/25/2009, -0/+11I also loathed Catcher in the Rye. It seems with that book it's either people love it or loathe it for different reasons.
- gangsterunicorn, on 04/25/2009, -0/+10some reviews were because of paranoid conservatives finding secet "liberal messages" in their music.
- suprakl, on 04/25/2009, -1/+11completely missed the point... how ironic
- j3ff86, on 04/25/2009, -0/+9What the ***** are you tolke'ing about?
- loneraver, on 04/25/2009, -1/+10Just like with Bladerunner, you haven't seen 2001 until you see it projected on a big screen. It's a completely different movie.
- alexka, on 04/25/2009, -0/+9So many of these are written by trolls that want to get a reaction, and a couple were pretty obvious trolls, sad that they made the list
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -1/+9Someone asked friends to boost his articles.
Bury brigade, you disappointed me yet again. - inactive, on 04/25/2009, -2/+10The only people I know who hate Pink Floyd are the people who did watched The Wall while on shrooms and had a bad trip. A girl I know says that any song from that cd makes the little hairs on her neck stand.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+8Overrated only means that you let the hype kill it for you.
- MacEnvy, on 04/25/2009, -0/+8Of all the things to complain about, crossover use between Slashdot and Digg is pretty damn low on the list. I'd rather get Slashdot users than the usual rabble that stops by from EBaum's.
- Zihuatanejo, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7Don't feed the trolls.
- inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7I will admit, there were times in reading Lord of the Rings that I wanted to throttle him for being incredibly boring at times, but I wouldn't say he's overrated. Personally, I think the word "overrated" is overrated. People use it to describe pretty much anything that's popular, as if nothing has the right to be.
- OptimusPrimate, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7I understand that a lot of this universally praised material is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but some of it is just painful to read.
Dark Side of the Moon: "...Anything not shown on MTV or BET is automatically bad." Nevermind that DSOTM preceded both music channels, your totally right kid. And I'm assuming that he's a kid, because only a 12 year old would make that argument. - mathsciteach, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7I have to admit that some of these classics are not my cup of tea either. HOWEVER, even if they don't hold my attention ALL of them have something about them that make them unique and even groundbreaking so that they will always be recognized as high quality.
