- jisrael, on 12/31/2008, -2/+29speaking of sequels nobody asked for... Indiana Jones 4? Kingdom of the Crystal Abortion?
- lee00000, on 12/31/2008, -0/+25Couldn't agree more with The Love Guru being the worst thing about last year!
- Tyrghast, on 12/31/2008, -2/+23I never take a Jason Statham movie seriously, they're just fun movies.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -1/+19"The worst of the trifecta of Asian remake junk from early ‘08,"
Why is Hollywood remaking Asian movies in the first place? It generally isn't as good because it doesn't translate well. - DarkStar3333, on 12/31/2008, -0/+15I am alone by saying I actually liked Death Race?
I had no expectations for a blockbuster script or a tour-de-force performance yet the idea that someone actually mounted real helicopter mini guns onto real cars was good enough for me.
Stupid? Yes
Non-Sensical? Sure
Entertaining? Hell Ya (to the point where bad becomes good)
If people only made AAAAA material we would have a much smaller DVD isle at Blockbuster. - inactive, on 12/31/2008, -4/+19Jason Statham pwns. Also, Untraceable isn't on that list. Buried.
- ohnoerino, on 12/31/2008, -0/+14All true, especially "Lazy comedy is not funny".
- Greensheep11, on 12/31/2008, -1/+14What? No High School Musical 3?
- Murdats, on 12/31/2008, -0/+11they could have saved the movie name for a much more awesome movie, preferably something related to valkyries.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 12/31/2008, -0/+10THEY RAPED HIM! THOSE BASTARDS!!
- Fullvinyl, on 12/31/2008, -1/+11The same reason they remake everyone's movies, including their own: creative bankruptcy.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+10Shhhh. We don't even speak the name of that atrocity.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -1/+10Love Guru was shockingly bad, I sat there with my mouth open in shock the entire two hours.
- avrygoodfrnd, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9I'd put 10,000 B.C at the bottom of my list.
- BillDauterive, on 12/31/2008, -2/+11Too bad this letter was written before the release of Valkyrie. It'd have made it.
- UndeadOverlord, on 12/31/2008, -2/+11Was I the only one who found Death Race to be decently entertaining, you don't watch that kind of movie for the seriousness or realism, you watch it to see fast cars, hot girls, and metal carnage
- PhillyMJS, on 12/31/2008, -1/+10Jason Statham pwns because the only character he ever plays is Jason Statham. Sure, the story and character name changes from movie to movie, but...
Though I did enjoy The Bank Job, it cracked me up when he was at his friend's wedding and was still sporting the two days' worth of beard stubble that is visual code for "I'm a tough guy." Dude, you can't shave for a wedding? - Lennonisalive, on 12/31/2008, -1/+9I wonder also why americans can watch tv with subtitles as the rest of the world?
Hollywood is allways remaking not only asian movies but also latinamerican, italian, spanish and so on..
Could you explain it to me?
Thanks. - Radan, on 12/31/2008, -0/+8Can someone help me out here? I can't decide if I should digg him up for being sarcastic, leave him be because he horribly molested the English language, or bury him because he's not sarcastic and is simply a moron destroying our society.
- philberttheduck, on 12/31/2008, -0/+7Jason Statham does kick ass and Bank Job shows that he can take serious roles, but is better suited to take on the badass roles. What a terrible start to a ***** list.
Buried. - plecostomus, on 12/31/2008, -2/+9I don't think "Valkyrie" was horrible enough to merit a mention here (compared to what other commentators have been saying). It was a reasonably paced period piece with no stand out performances or events, but it isn't something normally covered by big studios (Hitler assassination plots by Germans). I was phoning my dad about it and he didn't even know such plots ever existed, so it prompted him to get informed.
If you have that strong of a Cruise-aphobia then you probably can't watch "Tropic Thunder" either, which was hilarious. - inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+7Does that mean you though it was bad... or...?
- carrtoonist, on 12/31/2008, -0/+7Burn after reading was the worst movie in a year that produced The Happening, 10,000 years BC and Death Race?
- acmaurer, on 12/31/2008, -2/+9Agreed - the RomCom is DEFINITELY dead.
- Arseny89, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6I dunno where American ingenuity is, but I just found a whole load of American ignorance.
- FlyingCaveman, on 12/31/2008, -1/+7It must have been too late to put Valkyrie in the top 10 worst movies list.
- apupimpin, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6I was a fan of his after I saw Snatch....one of my fav movies. But he's had completely ***** roles after that, I mean come on, from Snatch to Death Race.
- KHook321, on 12/31/2008, -1/+7Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Ghost Town are THAT good. I think the article is full of it.
- AManWithNoName, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6Unfortunately, it seems like that's all we've got these days. Between the endless streams of lame 'parody movies' (Meet the Spartans, Date Movie, Epic Movie), the funny-but-getting-old Judd Apatow films, and the "Stick Will Ferrell in a silly job and have him do his thing" flicks, comedy movies are dying quick.
- Shogi, on 12/31/2008, -0/+5This reviewer (and seemingly most of them in general) have forgotten how to enjoy a popcorn action flick. Don't expect amazing acting or a fantastic plot, you watch it for the ridiculous explosions and *****. That's Statham's genre. Anyone without their head up the academy's ass can enjoy it.
- gaqua, on 12/31/2008, -1/+6I think "Burn After Reading" was hilarious. It was completely pointless and didn't have a message - and that was the message. That sometimes, there's no point to anything, and that doing the wrong thing every step of the way can still pay off.
Plus, it had George Clooney's dildo chair invention. - sithdixon, on 12/31/2008, -2/+7What about the Zohan, Adam Sandler's ***** show of a movie? unless im mistaken and is made in 2007, that needs to be on top are at least on the list
- AManWithNoName, on 12/31/2008, -1/+6It's because it's the American way to take something beautiful from someone else's culture, rape it beyond recognition and regear it towards the mindless hordes of American moviegoers, and then make millions of dollars off it whether the movie deserved it or not.
Just look at what they're going to do with the Dragonball Z movie next year, I'm still not unconvinced that the whole project's a joke. - Radan, on 12/31/2008, -0/+5There are some incredible actors out there who can play about any role they get appointed to. It's also true that Statham more or less only plays one kind of role, but there are few people who can play the role of Jason Statham as good as Jason Statham, if you get what I mean.
When I see a movie with Statham in it, I pretty much know what I will get. It's the same with Keanu Reeves, Daniel Craig, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio lately. All of whom I really enjoy watching since they know how to play their respective roles. - AManWithNoName, on 12/31/2008, -1/+6It's so fashionable to make fun of Indy 4. The movie wasn't THAT awful. Worst of the series, yes, but it had its good moments, unlike the other movies on this list.
But then, comparing a piece of ***** to a PILE of ***** isn't really fair, is it? - thelooch, on 12/31/2008, -2/+7He obviously didn't see Don't Mess With The Zohan.
- lintmonkey, on 12/31/2008, -0/+5I still haven't seen The Love Guru because I have standards, but The Happening had such potential and ended up being so ridiculously bad that I hoped a bunch of grass would fart on M. Night Shyamalan.
I don't understand how he can make such good movies and then make such crap. Even Lady in the Water (which I liked) sullied my opinion of him because of his crazy idea of releasing it as a children's book. Is he retarded? Kids like books about cats making a mess or Elmo pooping. Not complex stories about freaked up mermaids and plot twists.
Uh oh, gotta go, the wind is blowing. - jisrael, on 01/01/2009, -0/+5i'm trying really hard to be cool. PLEASE DIGG!!
- Matsky, on 01/01/2009, -0/+5Add to that their remake of Kath & Kim. What kind of crack were they on when they came up with the idea that a tv show entirely based on Australian humour and characters and satirising our culture (which we find funny, we don't take ourselves that seriously) could be remade in an American setting?
- Jhonka, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4Guess we're not the only ones who think 2008 movies sucked.

Entire Industry down 42% in 1 year - ixid, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4No one likes Shia LeBouf though, he's way too wet to be a new Indy.
- CDRaff, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4Lets be honest Statham does not make great movies, but he is smart, make money while you can, then make good movies when you can no longer make the action films.
- CDRaff, on 12/31/2008, -1/+5Honestly I kinda liked the movie. I think a lot of people missed what was actually going on in the movie. The idea is(or was) to start the Jones series up again with LeBouf being in the lead. Those movies would probably be more Sci-Fi in nature(I guess this because the era in which the 4th move takes place, as compared to the era when the first 3 took place). So in my opinion a mostly traditional Indy film with some Sci-Fi thrown in actually works well.
The execution sucked though. - shandromand, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4Being an American with a rather large collection of foreign films and anime that, for the most part, gets watched with subs and the original audio, I can't explain it. Sorry.
- ixid, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4I don't agree, given the same concepts a talented director could make a really scary film. Many people were really excited about The Happening until they saw it. Ditch the creationist nonsense, ditch the wooden actor for someone better and sort out the script. It could be subtly menacing with tons of atmosphere.
- Radan, on 12/31/2008, -1/+5I would actually have been really irritated if they had mentioned that movie. Indy 4 was far, far from even competing with Spielbergs other work, but saying that it was the worst movie of 2008 is just *****. Meet the Spartans anyone?
- mushtakrakish, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4yes! finally a countdown of worst movies of 2008 that doesn't include speed racer!
- Murdats, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4it generally doesn't make movies well.
- gaqua, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4That was almost bad on purpose it seemed. There's no way they could have possibly imagined that movie would get good critical reviews. I was continuously laughing throughout that movie about how insane people would have to be to make it.
