http://fireflychinese.kevinsullivansite.net - orbitalpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the japanese copied chinese characters. what japanese call Kanji, is actually chinese characters.
- 404notfound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It should be noted that much of the dialogue from the show is "Chinglish"—it's more or less English syntax with direct word translations into Chinese. While the site does a good job of reproducing the Mandarin dialogue, the source itself is pretty bad Chinese. Cursing a native speaker with some of the lines on the site is more likely to have them doubling over laughing than feeling insulted.
- knowitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool.. Nice find!
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Japanese use Chinese characters the same way European and American cultures use the Roman alphabet. You'll know it's Japanese when you see it interspersed with one of its two syllabaries, instead of just straight Kanji.
- farkninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wish they had, "Go F**k yourself, you dirty gold farmer!". Would be very useful for people who play World of Warcraft.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess it doesn't help that they admit to contantly mispronouncing things although not on purpose.
- Manchucka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops, that's 媽, not 馬. Although I guess that would work too...
- hube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That site needs audio files on it like dictionary.com
- fghfgh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they need to put "eat *****" in chinese so I can tell those dirty gold farmers in world of warcraft when they ask for food or water

this BARELY scratches the surface of asian profanity/slang. - MilfordCubicle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I, for one, think the usage of Chinese slang/profanity is probably the most inventive thing in ages. Not knocking Battlestar Galactica, but it gets REALLY old hearing the word frack/fracking umpteen dozen times per episode.
+Digg for the brief lesson in impolite Mandarin - Maurs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is a cool thing, because it is pretty dang realistic. Right now, Chinese speaking individuals comprise more than 1/6 of the Earth's population. English is still dominant because the countries speaking it have been traditionally economic and political powerhouses, but that is beginning to change. Chinese and English sharing the post of primary language in a few decades, let alone centuries, is a very possible event.
- innternal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's too bad they had horrible accent when speaking my lang >_>
i couldn't even understand which curse they were saying
but yeah, good find - Manchucka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0æ“?ä½ é¦¬çš„ç‹—å±„ï¼?!

- MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How do you say "fanboy" in Chinese?
- el_jefe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Awesome. Afterall, fictional TV shows contain nothing but factual information.
- Metman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0New levels of geekdom acheived by bilingual nerds!
I smell a Treky war coming... - RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I found this extremely interesting because, having just started watching Firefly for the first time yesterday, I was wondering if I was having audio problems, because it would sound like they were speaking gibberish, and as far as I could tell, they never explained the hybrid of languages... Interesting, Dugg.
- kourge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This, is lame+useless.
- angelwspr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0asian dialogue in sci-fi? pure genius... *cough, blade runner.

- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really wish the DVD set came with fully-translated English subs, instead of "[Speaks Chinese]" here and there.
- 0perator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"How do you say "I can't believe Joss Whedon killed off **** in Chinese?""
