- jstohler, on 02/02/2009, -13/+129In 50 years, people will say "Kung Fu What?" while "Wall-E" will be one of the classics.
- HyphySoul, on 02/02/2009, -7/+83I don't get how Kung Fu Panda beat Wall-E in EVERY CATEGORY! Wall-E didn't even win one award! Wtf is that?
- michaelrsa, on 02/02/2009, -10/+68They gave best animated feature to Kung Fu Panda instead of WALL-E?!
The streets will run red with blood for this abomination, mark my words. - Apocalyptic0n3, on 02/02/2009, -7/+57WALL-E is, simply put, the greatest 3D movie of all time. It ranks up there as one of the better animated movies of all time as well. The fact that it could not beat Kung Fu Panda tells me either the awards are a joke or that Kung Fu Panda was ten times better than I thought it was.
- badwithcomputer, on 02/02/2009, -3/+50annie awards walks away with the coveted 'under my radar awards show' award
- freshyill, on 02/02/2009, -7/+42wall•e > Kung-Fu Panda.
- tavallai, on 02/02/2009, -6/+34Kung-Fu Panda was cute. But award-worthy in any respect? Meh.
- AmyVernon, on 02/02/2009, -2/+27Yeah, I found KFP enjoyable enough to watch with the kidlet, but better than Wall-E?
- danconia, on 02/02/2009, -2/+25The integrity of these awards have been compromised. Not a single award for Wall-E? This is a joke.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 02/02/2009, -2/+24The Annie Awards - Presented by Jar Jar Binks
Annie? Annie! ANNIE!!!! - Zippo, on 02/02/2009, -2/+23Skadoosh!
- bawpcwpn, on 02/02/2009, -4/+23It's not the fact that KFP won the top award or even a few, but beating out WALL-E in every category was a bit off. Dustin Hoffman as Shifu in KFP won over Ben Burtt as WALL-E and other characters in voice acting. WTF happened there?
- zjbird, on 02/02/2009, -3/+18Travesty.
- kd420, on 02/02/2009, -1/+16Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E were one of my favorite movies this year (probably only behind TDK). The message and themes in these movies are not age specific, and are more universal than other movies. People dismiss Disney/animated movies as being for kids but a lot of the time they have more substance than the other 90% of trash out there.
- iDoraemon, on 02/02/2009, -3/+18I liked Kung Fu Panda.
- Nuak, on 02/02/2009, -1/+15Pixar > Dreamworks
- c010rb1indusa, on 02/02/2009, -0/+13Wall-E was incredible. There are alot of CGI flicks out there but none seem to be as unique and as technically proficient as the ***** Pixar keeps pumping out. With the exception of Cars, everything Pixar has made has been a Disney Classic...Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Ratatouille, and Wall-E are all amazing movies even for adults.
- jerrolds, on 02/02/2009, -2/+13I really liked Kung Fu Panda, I'm just really glad I watched it BEFORE watching Wall-E.
- bluehard, on 02/02/2009, -3/+12What happened to Wall-e?
- bigfatphony19, on 02/02/2009, -0/+9I don't think it was better than Wall-E but I thought Kung Fu Panda was really really good. It was funny, charming, and had a really cool art style.
- djmphoto, on 02/02/2009, -5/+13What, no love for Madagascar 2?
- MadHarvey, on 02/02/2009, -1/+8There was no way to resolve that film with friendship.
Tai Lung destroyed their village most likely killing a bunch of villagers. He would have killed anyone to get to the scroll until he found out it was blank. Then what? Just forgive him after he finds out its blank? That might work fine until he decides that we wants something else...
The fight scene at the end was necessary because the actual lesson in the film was believing in yourself, following your dreams, and fate. The power of self confidence couldn't be shown unless Po was tested in the final battle. At least they made it a funny battle.. - TangentThought, on 02/02/2009, -0/+7I went into it hoping to hear some of Jackie Chan's voice-work. I was disappointed when I found out that he had only two lines in the movie.
- punkcat, on 02/02/2009, -1/+7mesa giva da award to anything.
- JDex, on 02/02/2009, -3/+9Truth!
I enjoyed K-F Panda, much like Shrek. Was a good ride, but only once. The Annie's just continue to degrade their own relevance in the Animation Industry.
Congrats to everyone who worked on the Award Winning movie though! - Halsfield, on 02/02/2009, -1/+7wall-e explained how complacency and believing everything big-brother says is a dangerous thing, i find that to be more thought provoking than the usual "follow your dreams and everything will work out" theme of every animated movie(including wall-e)...ever.
- joeleslie, on 02/02/2009, -0/+6I enjoyed Cars...
But yeah, it was definitely the weakest of Pixar's offerings. Everything else they've made is just mind-blowing. - Kev585, on 02/02/2009, -2/+8Annie Awards, you just made my list.
- diggicam, on 02/03/2009, -0/+6It won because Katzenberg makes all DreamWorks animation employees members of the group that votes for the awards. So, the ballot box was in their favor. WALL-E is on almost every critic's top 10 list for the year and some have even mentioned it should have been nominated for Oscar's best picture category. There's no way KFP is better than WALL-E. WALL-E will win at the Oscars.
- noumuon, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5dustin hoffman did a great job, that's what. wall-e deserved awards, but voice acting isn't really one of them.
- TiMMY8765, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6but they also have 90% fewer explosions and car chases
- Pixelante, on 02/02/2009, -2/+7There is no charge for awesomeness, or attractiveness.
- punkcat, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6KFP was nice, the first animation Dreamworks doesn't have to be embarrassed about.
but as soon as you saw Wall-E, that was just wow. i left thinking that art wasn't dead. - Kev585, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5Maybe there's a reason I'd never heard of the Annie Awards till they screwed up
- adioz, on 02/02/2009, -2/+7I don't know what's wrong with you guys, I really enjoyed Kung Fu Panda. And while it's not as good as Wall-E, it still deserves some praise. I mean Pixar usually gets all awards anyways. C'mon guys.
- cyt698, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5My faith in movie awards is pretty much gone. First it was Pulp Fiction losing to Forest Gump, the The Dark Knight doesnt even get nominated! And now Wall-E gets snubbed too. Seriously are these prestigious movie groups wanting to try and turn the masses away or what?
- joeleslie, on 02/02/2009, -2/+7Kung Fu Panda is one of (if not, the best) animated movie not made by Pixar. But when compared to any of Pixar's movies, it simply does not compare.
- scratend0788, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6i enjoyed kfp more although i would have thought the critics would have gone for walle as a techincally better film, in terms of animation and storie telling
- bubbameister33, on 02/03/2009, -0/+4I planted a pizza seed yesterday you bastard.
- SaintStryfe, on 02/02/2009, -0/+4I just love that there were 3 really excellent Animated Films (Wall-E, Kung-Fu Panda and Bolt) in one year. We're usually lucky to get one mediocre one, if we ignore the continual brilliance of Pixar.
- CrimsonBlur, on 02/02/2009, -5/+9Over WALL-E? Are you freaking kidding me? WALL-E is a cinematic masterpiece compared to Kung Fu Panda. I really liked Kung Fu Panda when I saw it in the theater, but there is no way it should get "best picture" over WALL-E, everything about WALL-E is better, everything.
- painting, on 02/02/2009, -2/+6The scene with Oogway ascending beats the entire wall-e movie.
- lowtolerance, on 02/03/2009, -0/+4One of the lamest CGI creations? You're nuts. I think they stretched the limits of anthropomorphism, and with stunning results. A character like Wall-E shouldn't be able to express emotions - all he really has to in the way of a face are two "eyes" with a pretty limited range of movement. And yet just through his posturing, the animators not only effectively pull off expressing his emotions, but they practically give him a soul. For a character that can't even put together a sentence, the audience connects with him, and I think that speak volumes about the attention to detail paid to his modeling and animation. I think he's without a doubt the best CGI character created to date.
- Smaulz, on 02/03/2009, -0/+4You missed it. The finger hold at the end.
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -3/+7I thought Wall-E was much better, Kung Fu Panda is also a fun movie.
- Stormwern, on 02/02/2009, -1/+5Can't decide between Wall-E and Finding Nemo myself, Andrew Stanton ftw.
Kung Fu Panda is a really good movie, let's be fair. The "camera" work is amazing, fight coreography and editing are great, writing pretty good, it sure beats The Forbidden Kingdom in every concievable category. - moo083, on 02/02/2009, -1/+4And that competes against a panda that can only do Kung Fu when he is thinking about food, how?
I'm not saying the Wall-E character was 100% creative, but, at least it had a lesson.
And another thing, what exactly happens to the bad guy tiger at the end of Kung Fu Panda? It is never made clear. Is he dead? Did he run away? Is he injured?
I mean, they went through all the effort to create a back story for him, making you feel sorry for him, and showing that it wasn't all his fault, and then he gets no redemption, let alone explaining what happened! What a crap ending.
I really did like the movie. But I'm sorry, if you tell me that the Wall-E character is lame, explain why, and how that compares to the lameness of a Panda that does Kung Fu for food. - LordBalderdash, on 02/02/2009, -4/+7what's the message in kung fu panda?
it's okay to be fat and lazy because eventually someone will come along and tell you that you're special and help you discover your inner ninja?
err... okay. - Diffy, on 02/02/2009, -3/+6Kung Fu Panda was my second favorite movie of 2008. First was The Dark Knight.
- acegi, on 02/02/2009, -1/+4people who are burying you are the same ***** pretentious ***** who thinks they're so noble for supporting a supposed 'cause' without really understanding for themselves what it means.
the message in Wall-e is ***** hypocritical.
'save the planet, but only after watching our movie, buying our DVD and special edition figurines made out of plastic that won't decompose for next thousand years!'
at least KFP is honest and it doesn't try to be anything but itself. -
