- centerblack, on 10/11/2007, -4/+63Pirates of the Carribean is PG13. Knocked Up is rated R. Often times, Film-makers will cut scenes and water down content to get their film a PG13 rating because they know that more people will go see it and they'll make more money.
Given the circumstances, Knocked Up did really well, which is good, because it was ***** hilarious. - randybush, on 10/11/2007, -9/+63When Pirates made $115 million dollars last weekend and the Number 2 movie, Shrek the Third, made $53 million, then a week later some comedy that not many people even heard of comes within $14 million and has a higher average per theater than Pirates, I'd call that close.
In fact, if Knocked Up played in more theaters, it might have overtaken Pirates. - fishy604, on 10/11/2007, -6/+53It deserved it, as funny if not funnier than 40 year old virgin.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -13/+44Really? Because Knocked Up cost over $33 million to make... and Pirates cost over $200 million.... so I must conclude you have down syndrome.
- Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31I don't think seeing a movie called "Knocked Up" makes you old.
- nugge7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32You look like a cholo on Easter Sunday.
- jake8689, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32"played in about 1,500 fewer theaters than “Pirates” but averaged 300 dollars more per theater"
yeah this is whay it almost did better than pirates - Toast1185, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Excellent! They've already arrived at step 3
- zdiddy85, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27I honestly laughed my ass off through-out the movie. Check out the reviews at http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/knockedup if you're still not convinced.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Children of Men = 2006
2006 = last year - Roger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Not only that, but it actually made the IMDb top 250: http://imdb.com/title/tt0478311/
Currently its #116 - codyman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24I saw both Pirates and Knocked Up
Pirates was long, overdone, and had too many sub-plots (with which some are never even carried out by the end of the film)
Knock Up, however, was hilarious and so far is my pick for a comedy out of all the films this year so far... In terms of comparing it to the 40 year old virgin, I would say its AT LEAST as good as it, if not better... definitely more R-Rated flick than 40 year old, definitely... and the hospital scene grossed out the whole audience... - heat0, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21I beg to differ, Knocked Up was much more funny than Blades of Glory.
- wideawakewesley, on 10/11/2007, -7/+23Yeah, that and Pirates is poo (allegedly)
- greenrider, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother, Gabe Ruth
- tdogg241, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15I wanted to get up and leave about 45 minutes into Pirates.
Knocked Up's 2-hour run time felt like it flew by.
So far, I think Knocked Up has been the most satisfying movie I've seen in the theaters this year. - MrVandemar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15cost only $29mil. They have been talking all weekend about the fact that they have made their production costs in first weekend.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/03/bc.boxoffice.ap/index.html
"Universal's romantic comedy "Knocked Up," starring Katherine Heigl as a career woman who gets pregnant from a one-night stand with a slacker (Seth Rogen), debuted a strong No. 2 with $29.3 million. The movie's weekend gross equaled its entire production budget." - lokier, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13It's Freaks & Geeks, grown up.
- tdogg241, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Really? I'd say ***** like Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, Shrek 3, Ocean's 13, Fantastic Four 2, Die Hard 4, Bourne Ultimatum, Indiana Jones 4, and all the other cash-in sequels and remakes are more a testament to the lack of creativity and fresh ideas in Hollywood than a well-written, somewhat original romantic comedy.
- szembek, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16that was weak.
- lessew, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Oh my.... all the money the movies are making lately must be due to the copyright enforcement/anti-piracy measures!
/sarcasm - MrVandemar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Most importantly though, they made their entire cost of production back in the first weekend of release. Everything else they make from here out is profit.
- dclowd9901, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Brilliant movie. I have a newfound respect for Judd Apatow and his cronies. Great story, and funny as ***** in so many ways. If you aren't a *****, expect to laugh through pretty much 85 percent of the movie. Also, expect to learn how to love with your cold, dead nerd heart...
- mmzplanet, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12@centerblack
Agreed, this movie was great. This one is nowhere near a PG-13 rating. If it were not for everything that made it R-rated... it would not have been good at all. - thebigdripper, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I saw "knocked up" on friday. I haven't laughed that hard for a movie EVER. My girlfriend made me see it. Best movie i've seen in awhile. saw pirates of the caribean last week. I was entertained. that's about it.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Congrats you picked the best out of the 3.
- synclare, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6Deleted scene, so f-ing funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=154KVUTpe7A - miketrash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Have you seen the movie? It has some of the best dialogue I've heard in a long time. Judd Apatow is a damn good writer. Don't write a movie off because you pass judgement on the previews.
- RJNavarrete, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8It was easily the funniest movie I've seen in a really long time. Surpasses any comedies of recent times, for sure.
Never a dull moment, and the whole audience was cracking up throughout.
Definitely recommend it, especially as opposed to Pirates Three.
I could've done with the close-ups during birth, though. Kinda unnecessary. - kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Blades of Glory was terrible
- fant0m, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7You're Prettier than me.
F*ck You, Hormones! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Who the hell didn't know about this movie? This movie was famous for being called a "sleeper hit" because people were trying to look smart before it came out to make up for what happened to Wedding Crashers.
- miketrash, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9Knocked Up is my favorite movie so far this year. Go see it. Seriously.
- josephb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That's how you get pink eye.
- digduggler, on 10/11/2007, -9/+13I went to see this and not Spidey 3 or Pirates. It was fantastic.
I am officially old. - diggapleeeze, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@cathbertz: You're comparing Knocked Up's first weekend to Pirates second weekend. I've read both Hollywood trades today and neither is saying it almost knocked our Pirates. You have no idea what you're talking about.
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3For goodness sakes the pirates glass eyeball even had a plot line (incoherent teeny weenie spoiler)
- thelegacy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4i think i missed half the jokes in this movie because i was laughing too hard.
- thefaithful, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5given that Pirates is like 6 hours long Knocked Up could rake in more money by having more showings in each theatre over the same length of time.
- catbertz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@diggapleeeze
First, I live and work in hollywierd. Second, I talked to one of my friends earlier who works at ET, who confirmed people are talking. Third, a second week of a long awaited blockbuster being challenged by a 30 mil film packaged as a funny chickflick is noteworthy. - WickedDrag0oN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I watched Knocked Up on Friday, it was a fantastic movie. I actually saw POTC 3 on Sunday. I wasn't really impressed. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it.
- eean, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Not really. They're both supposed to be fun.
- orion846, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7this is what gets on frontpage now? weekend movie sales? oh and knocked up was HARDLY "un-known" i couldn't watch any TV channel for more then 3 minutes over the last 3 weeks without seeing a knocked up commercial.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i saw "knocked up" last night
it was great. considering how most movies that come out nowadays are complete garbage, "knocked up" was refreshingly good. - Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The ninjas killed the pirates...WE NEED A NINJA MOVIE
- thelegacy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4freaks was amazing, as is this movie.
- MrVandemar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5@wild
Actually, the studio does see the majority of the cost of your ticket. The movie theater itself makes its profits off of the concessions. Same way gas station/convenience stores work. - RJNavarrete, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You somehow managed to misspell "I have absolutely no sense of humor" as "Movie sucked, nuff said ;[." You better get that checked out...
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The theatre I was in missed sooooo many hilarious responses due to the laughing just going on and on. I can't really complain...
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4No, Scarlett is still amazing gorgeous, but Katherine is a lot thinner and more mature looking.
