Kids hijack mall security CCTV footage to make underground films

we-make-money-not-art.com — Using mall surveillance images captured by signal sniffer devices, the kids then create their own movies. This film, The Duellists, was shot using only the existing in-house CCTV network of 160 cameras operated from the central control room, with a soundtrack created entirely from the found sounds and noises recorded during the performance.

    My ass! They didn't "hijack" *****! OBVIOUSLY Mall Security was involved, or they wouldn't be running around an empty mall in the middle of the night, with no fear of consequences jumping off ledges, behind desks, etc, where Security would TOTALLY want to taser somebody pulling that *****. Plus, the mall projected it for it's customers! DUH! RTFA dumbass. Don't trump ***** up to something that it's NOT.

    It was kind of a cool concept, but definitely not "Underground".

  • BOFH139, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The "Hijacking" is just a standard 2.4Ghz Video Receiver connected to the inputs on the Cam, and the "Hijacking" from the source is somebody disconnecting the BNC connect from the camera and connecting one goto to the Video-recorder (which will certainly get you in trouble it not arrested)

    If they are broadcasting unencrypted wireless, then it is not closed circuit. Most people put up with being on surveillance cameras because they know that only the security guards see them. I hope this gets people talking about the issue of privacy more. I'd like to see them all taken down.... but that's not going to happen.

Many Malls have no cameras at all, some only have fixed ones on entrances and just a few have full blown pan-tilt systems with operators. Unlike the UK where every shopping centre has had cameras for years.
