- Premier, on 07/02/2008, -18/+11Will Ferrell will ruin this movie, his obvious style of comedy doesn't fit well with Sacha Baron Cohens
- DickyT83, on 07/02/2008, -9/+6Oh really? Apparently you haven't seen Talladega Nights.
- Charlesbian, on 07/02/2008, -2/+7apparently you don't remember how goddamn awful it was
- inf0, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5LOL Nice example...
FAIL
- DickyT83, on 07/02/2008, -9/+6Oh really? Apparently you haven't seen Talladega Nights.
- mjsamps, on 07/02/2008, -4/+55I'm with the Digger. This is gonna be awesome. I like that Cohen gets to lead the film with Ferrell playing second banana.
- StayPuft21, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1And you know Ferrell will over-act and ruin a variety of scenes. People need to realize that Will Ferrell (as funny as he is at times) is NOT an actor, but a character. His comedic persona has such limited variety that I've grown tired of his shtick altogether.
- TurboBeard, on 07/02/2008, -16/+10Sounds terrible.
- OmarOmar, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3Why? The two major stars or the plot?
- feliks2, on 07/02/2008, -7/+2Ferrell hasn't been funny since SNL, that's why.
- Badandy127, on 07/02/2008, -4/+2You mean like Anchorman? Like Talladega Nights? All good. And step brothers is going to be awesome.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0I can't believe a digger agrees with me on this. Digg usually sucks off everything I think fills our planet with trash and bile.
- OmarOmar, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3Why? The two major stars or the plot?
- DGRP, on 07/02/2008, -12/+4After that god-awful zohan movie, he better make it up.
- Lukesed, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Who are you talking about? Nobody is in both of these movies, at least in the first billing.
- forgiste, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Yeah, that was Adam freaking Sandler.
- maracle2, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Hes talking about Apatow you morons, he co-wrote the script
- apophenic, on 07/02/2008, -3/+27oh boy, my two favorite people. i can't wait to hear this get quoted constantly once it comes out!
- floridiot2, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4VERY NICE. I LIKE.
- dracostimpy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1My two favorite people are Christopher Walken and the Prophet Yahweh. They haven't been in a movie together, but if they did I'm sure it'd be even bigger than Pacino and DeNiro in "Heat". I could see them doing a cop buddy film like "48 Hours", maybe mixed with some "Lethal Weapon"-like action. Interracial buddy cop movies are always good cinema!
- tidu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1"I really like the band N*Sync. My favorite member is Harpo. I think there's a Harpo, if not there should be. I will write their next hit maybe. Boom boom chickie chickie caca choo choo."
- ephrils1, on 07/02/2008, -20/+13Buried. Will Ferrell is a disgrace to comedy and acting.
- Panserbjorne, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3If I would give you some money out of my wallet, would that ease the pain?
- aookay, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Let's hear one of your jokes then, chuckles.
- dylio, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2One word: Anchorman
- tidu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Do you know who Judd Apatow is?
- CrazyArcher, on 07/02/2008, -4/+5Awesome.
- propagandhi, on 07/02/2008, -12/+4Buried. This will suck worse than zohan.
- DanteDefiance, on 07/02/2008, -8/+12It's good news that Ferrell will be second fiddle. The man CANNOT carry a movie by himself....just look at his track record:
Old School was awesome, Semi-Pro...abomination.
Edit, in his defense, Anchorman was terrific.- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -10/+5Terrific? Now that's rather strong word for a movie that expects you to laugh at "big foots dick", isn't it?
- petebot, on 07/02/2008, -5/+17Anchorman was glorious.
- ReyX, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1So was Blue.
- Charlesbian, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5anchorman was great, then for me the schtick got tired in talledega and semipro
- TheRedeemer, on 07/02/2008, -5/+1Talladega Nights, anyone? Remember that? The two were great, AND Will was the lead.
- bodegit, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I'm Ron Burgundy?
- lambda, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Comedy movies are almost just too hard to do successfully. You have to fill up 90 minutes with laughter, which is a nearly impossible task. That's why I like funny TV shows.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It is? I swear I've seen at least a few comedies which held laughs consistently throughout.
Sounds like a preemptive defense for this movie.- scott88008, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Woody Allen says 90 minutes is the perfect length for a comedy. It seemed to work for him.
- Mephistocles, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1thats not true. When you dont have jokes, just use boobs. Bam, 100 million box office
- Charlesbian, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3you have much more time writing a script (out of contract at least) for a movie than for a seasonal tv show. tv shows have the benefit of multiple plot lines to have more options for comedy, but are at greater risk of being subjected to network executive influence and vanity of the producer (which is sometimes the main writer) over time and end up jumping the shark.
- Harrison88, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Borat done it.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It is? I swear I've seen at least a few comedies which held laughs consistently throughout.
- Deadpixel1221, on 07/02/2008, -9/+2Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine > Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096454/ - cambob76, on 07/02/2008, -0/+25I have a feeling this could be comic genius or a tremendous dissapointment.
- ephrils1, on 07/02/2008, -7/+2It is:
Sacha Cohen = comic genius
Will Ferrell = tremendous dissapointment
- ephrils1, on 07/02/2008, -7/+2It is:
- MattFromSeattle, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5This has the potential of being a great take on Sherlock Holmes or the potential to make people gouge their own eyes out in the theater.
- mrdeathgod, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3"I LOVE it! It's GENIUS!"
- alexkball, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13There is a BIG difference between a Judd Apatow produced film and a Judd Apatow written/directed film.
- laelyboy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I'm a big fan of both actors/comedians. Hopefully this will be a Will Ferrell "comeback" movie. I say this because his latest movies are just plain boring after awhile. *cough* Semi-Pro. I'm expecting big laughs when this comes out. I hope to see Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill in this also.
- tidu, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Don't worry, he has a movie coming out next month that will surely keep his ***** streak going.
- blogosphear, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9Seth Rogen/Apatow projects have raised the comedy bar for me.
- inf0, on 07/02/2008, -3/+2Must have been pretty ***** low to begin with.
- blogosphear, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1What was the last movie you saw where you found yourself laughing uncontrollably?
- inf0, on 07/02/2008, -3/+2Must have been pretty ***** low to begin with.
- parallax7d, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Nothing about Sherlock Holmes makes me think "Hey that would be a great comedy". But I do like Cohen, and they were great together in Talledega Nights, so we will see.
- teessidedazza, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Oh dear God! I want to die. Individually I don't mind Cohen or Ferrell - I like things they've done. I just cannot believe they can do this with justice. I am not sure about Holmes being comedic (I mean outright comedy - the stories, in print and celluloid are certainly witty) and I picture the likes of Rathbone, Cushing and Brett.
A digger above mentions Kingsley and Caine. Don't forget Dudley Moore and Peter Cook (a great double act) - even they couldn't pull it off. And Billy Wilder's comedy The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes was hit and miss.
I detect the nefarious handiwork of Professor Moriarty in this scheme! - AsylumAleikum, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Please, no Will Ferrell.
- bjornski, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'd have to agree here. I think Cohen could put a good spin on Holmes, but Ferrell is a bit too loud and slapstick to pair up with him.
I still think it will be funny, but I think Ferrell lowers the bar a bit for what it could be.
- bjornski, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'd have to agree here. I think Cohen could put a good spin on Holmes, but Ferrell is a bit too loud and slapstick to pair up with him.
- deweyhewson, on 07/02/2008, -2/+6Let me guess: Cohen will play the "offensive funny guy" and Will Ferrell will play some derivative of "half-drunk frat boy" and will yell 3/4 of his lines?
- bushout, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0I'm laughing already!
- ephrils1, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Seems you've seen some of Ferrell's work. By "some" I, of course, mean 1 movie since they're all the same as he's concerned, and "work", of course, to mean butcher everything he does.
- tidu, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1LOUD NOISES!
- ephrils1, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2"How does he keep getting work?"
---Chris Griffin (obviously he had seen Will Ferrell's movies too) - glennkachmar, on 07/02/2008, -6/+4Will Ferrel will ruin it. He is nowhere near in the same league as Sascha Baron Cohen.
- Sherman901, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Judd Apatow looks like Ringo Starr.
- 88chrisb, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Will Ferrell can kiss my ass!
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1After the whole Talledega Nights and MTV Movie Award thing, he probably would.
- morgino, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0I never got the big deal with Judd Apatow. It just seems to be me that if I wrote down everything my friends and I did for a year and then strung it along with a very loose story line and added alot of cussing that I should be a millionaire. Much funnier ***** happens though and Im 36. ***** if I wrote down stuff when I was 23 I'd be a billionaire
- eazhar, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Yeah if only. Because that's really what's stopping you.
- blogosphear, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1You need to understand that the target audience can relate to a lot of the stuff he's writing down and it works!
- krisscofield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Prepare for a year of your co-workers quoting this and the Snorg tees girls having the most memorable lines plastered on their racks.
- hoffey, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Sacha Baron Cohen should do a movie with Jon Lajoie.
- keithnoir, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I'm happy ferrell is stepping out of the "kid in adult body" role type he always plays.
- Meatball01, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1What is with all the Ferrell hate? The guys makes a couple bad movies and everyone is on his ass. At least he isn't he creator of the Epic Movie movies.
Come on,
Old School more than makes up for Semi-Pro. And Anchorman makes up for Blades of Glory.- ephrils1, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Since when was batting 50/50 acceptable? He's supposed to be a professional comedian. With his mediocre record anyone can do it... oh wait, because anyone can is why people think Will Ferrell is any good.
- Meatball01, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1If you're not being forced to watch the movies, then yes 50/50 is acceptable.
- ephrils1, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Since when was batting 50/50 acceptable? He's supposed to be a professional comedian. With his mediocre record anyone can do it... oh wait, because anyone can is why people think Will Ferrell is any good.
- spony99, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Breaking News! The movie will be titled, The Hound of Baskervilles, and will mark the return of dog-actor-little gentleman baxter
- danc4498, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1This could be quite possibly the greatest idea for a movie ever! I'm just sayin.
