- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Booo. Firefly was one of my favorite tv series ever, and Serenity is definitely up there as far as movies go. Sad to see a great universe die out.

Wait a minute, That's a silly question. - falcon734, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25There could still be another TV series!
- AtomicRequiem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22If "super teenage girl" was all you saw in Serenity, perhaps you're missing something. Or using oversimplified hyperbole on Digg cuz it's cool.
Whatever. - missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21zirt, it's true that Firefly didn't get the ratings, and Serenity didn't get the big bucks, but I blame that on marketing. Fox did a terrible job with the series, for starters, and Serenity was hardly advertised.
- zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Funny this gets announced now. I had the DVD of this movie for a long time (about when it came out) but I finally got around to watching it only a couple days ago. It seems like it was pretty good and I googled around to see there were rumors there could be a sequel. From what I saw it generally got decent reviews but it seems like it just didn't bring in the major $'s movie companies were hoping for. I've still never seen the Firefly series so maybe I could fill the void by watching that. =/
- cbasst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14SERENITY NOW!
- crombenevolant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13While this makes me sad, I am also glad in a way. For as much as I would like to see more movies or the series get picked up, it would kill me to see it done without the original cast or questionable production quality. Given that most sequels are a step down from the original, perhaps it is best left on the high note that was Serenity.....
- Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"Can I have your share?"
"No."
"If you die, can I have your share?"
"Yes." - terrix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Don't comment on the movie unless you've seen the TV show, you are missing 95% of the story and character development. Its like just seeing the third LoTR, or a Star Trek movie without seeing the series. Imagine watching Star Trek: Generations without watching either ToS or TNG.
- jakk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think I speak for (most) of us when I say:
*****. - OSXpert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Lets be thankful that we got 1 season and a movie rather than being sad that we don't get another.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'll be in my bunk!
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Saladman, the series has hardly any "super teenage girl that can kick ass." The movie wasn't as good as it could have been, but you're definitely missing out if you haven't seen the series. If you like the series, you'll like the movie a lot more.
Riz...didja -see- the movie? We're not still in junior high, so saying, "omg you shop at hot topic ur dumb" doesn't hold a hell of a lot of sway around here. Try coming up with an insult that isn't full of crap you learned from your scenester friends. - daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Can I have all your stuff?
- Jacob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10you mean a half finished season, that we got screwed out of the rest of.
- tomboy501, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I thought the movie followed a natural progression from the TV show. In fact, the entire Firefly season slowly led up that "River the Reaver Slayer" scene in Serenity. One of the last TV episodes had a scene where River grabbed a gun and killed 2 or 3 bad guys in 1.5 seconds without looking. Kaylee was all freaked out by it - and the crew was beginning to wonder about River's violent streak and what she might be capable of. Plus, the movie fleshed out the whole Reaver story - which they only touched on briefly during the TV series.
I'm disappointed there won't be a sequel to Serenity. I thought it was worthy. - Dochtuir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No sequel? Now about a prequel!
- Spec8472, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Hah!
This proves it... There's going to be a prequel!
Y'know, Mal/Jayne/Wash/etc in College... Then they could throw in some Vampires.
(kidding, folks... ) - jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7As long as Whedon was at the helm, quality could never suffer. I trust that guy.
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I still wanted to know about shepherd Book's past though. Damn.
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Agreed. Joss said long ago that if the movie tanks he probably wouldn't do a sequel. Lo and Behold, the movie tanks. What did people expect? B5 didn't get a big screen movie and it had great writing and tons of fans. The demand just wasn't there.
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I heard Fox didn't even start the series with the first episode..... that's just stupid.
- KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Basically, Book is Samuel L. Jackson's character from Pulp Fiction after he decides to walk the earth.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I dont see any realism in hologram room scenes in a sci-fi show that is supposed to focus on a star-ship and its adventures.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8*cries*
But I still think it's probably the best move, since they killed off Book *and* Wash. It wouldn't be the same without Wash's clever humor and Book's mysterious past. :( - kabewm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@cbasst
"SERENITY NOW!"
Is that the latest Leo Laporte podcast?!?! - Onesan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ Xalorus
There were only 13 episodes made, 13 episodes is not a full season. Therefore SF ran all the episodes, not "the complete first season" thankyouverymuch. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5> I still wanted to know about shepherd Book's past though. Damn.
Well, the movie doesn't spell it out, but you can read between the lines. We learn that Book knows about operatives (he tells Mal about them mid-way through the film.) At the beginning of the film, it's clear that most people *don't* know about operatives except an elite few. Chances are, Book was an operative himself, did some awful things in his work, and turned to religion. Notice in the film he talks as if he's been in the head of an operative ("The kind of man they send believes hard. Kills without asking why.")
The thing from the TV show they didn't address, however, was Inara's past. There are loads of hints about something in the TV shows and they didn't even touch on it at all in the movie. - missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's just as well. The series wouldn't be the same without Wash, anyway.
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8So did you or did you not like the movie?
- MrDave2176, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I swear I've never seen more people jump to a conclusion than this crowd. His exact words were, "There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there."
That means there isn't a sequal IN THE WORKS. That does not mean that there isn't a sequel ever. It doesn't mean that there cannot still be a sequel. It mans he isn't working on one.
The movie studios aren't stupid. If enough people come forth and say I will buy... then they can only ignore it so long before someone says "Why don't we make a sequel." It is inevitable. But as soon as you start running around and saying "OMG! There isn't a sequel! Joss said so!" instead of reading what he said and understanding that he was responding to the person who said he was working on one. Well, you people give up way too easily. - jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He said he wasn't working on a sequel, because it was rumored he was doing so in London.
It doesn't say "I'm not going to make a sequel." - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Perhaps this isn't such a bad thing afterall. Some things are better left unsaid. A gem like Firefly can only go downhill the more it is played out. I mean, just look at Star Trek and its many incarnations.
- Xibby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Elvis is not dead he just went home!
- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3/sniff
Ah well...I am truly disappointed but not surprised.
At least I can watch my Firefly and Serenity DVDs over and over again :D - JDL917, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think, if anything, it will be continued as a comic book.
- KevlarRelic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8There is no reason left for me to live. Now I must say goodbye to a cruel world that was blind to the fantastic quality of the Firefly series. Good riddance. I am going to join the reavers. You may commence fearing me now. FEAR ME!!
- wisebob134, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2their still can be a sequel just nothing is being planned now
- elknino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3rizmaster.
***** retard. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> I thought the movie followed a natural progression from the TV
> show. In fact, the entire Firefly season slowly led up that "River
> the Reaver Slayer" scene in Serenity.
I agree. Anyone who was surprised by that wasn't paying very close attention, given all the hints in the TV show. Let's see, she shoots the bad guys in the "War Stories" episode without looking. She makes comments about being able to kill Jayne with her brain. She attacks Jayne with a knife and outwits the bounty hunter in "Objects in Space." I think it's obvious where things were going and the movie just puts a cap on it. - fadedwranglers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Without a doubt Firefly was the best scifi tv series I have ever had the pleasure to watch. I am immensely sad that the rest of the stories are not going to make it to the big or little screen. (Josh had already said that he would not do another firefly tv series.)
- HazDaGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Scene: Junk Yard at the far edge of Reaver Space...
"Aye sonny. That there is a Firefly class. Good ship but I got this here Goliath class that can haul a TON more... Hey Sonny, sonny, over here!"
Cast? Aye I'd like to see'em come back. All involved made a show that really touches some of us.
Don't mean there can't be a future for the show if they don't / can't come back. Reminds me of this...
"My wings are made of tungsten,
My flesh of glass and steel,
I am the joy of Terra for the power that I wield,
Once upon a lifetime I died a pioneer,
Now I sing inside a spaceships heart,
Does anybody hear?"
Phoenix by Julia Ecklar - EmperorAwesome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh. I remember seeing the Serenity trailer in theatres, and I could've sworn a planned trilogy was announced at the time. That kinda sucks.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm no fan of Firefly/Serenity, but I don't see why they couldn't produce direct-to-DVD movies. And they wouldn't have to be written or directed by Joss -- remember that this started as TV series, which comprises of many episodes neither written nor directed by him. As long as they get writers and directors who worked on the original series, and the direct-to-DVD movies are produced by Mutant Enemy, then this plan could work. First they release a movie on DVD, then broadcast it on cable television at a later date.
This will all depend on how well sales of the Firefly DVD box sets and Serenity DVDs do, of course. - namelessted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is sad news. i was really hoping that there would be something to continue the series. but alas, no movie. I still really want to see Joss to a comic based around Book and his previous life. I think that would be the best thing.
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inkswamp, I never thought of it that way. But, yeah, it makes perfect sense.
