- FakeHipster, on 07/02/2009, -1/+69Try putting your clothes back on and then doing it. I've found it helps a bit.
- mrpunman, on 07/02/2009, -2/+64Try recording your own acting and watch it yourself
I've tried. And it's kinda creepy =/ - ThePhone, on 07/03/2009, -5/+47Johnny Depp is by far the classiest man in Hollywood.
- Malarie, on 07/03/2009, -3/+40Pirates was boring, but Depp's performance in this character is amazing. IMHO Johnny Depp is one of the best actor there is.
- taylorhayward, on 07/01/2009, -6/+40He must be reading Rotten Tomatoes.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 07/01/2009, -3/+34While the sentiment is understandable I wonder how he finds the willpower.
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -7/+38At least he was spared the experience of watching the last two Pirates of the Caribbean movies... more than I can say for myself, unfortunately.
- bencanfield, on 07/03/2009, -1/+28Would you ***** me? I'd ***** me.
I'd ***** me hard. - cyberdork, on 07/02/2009, -1/+20Don't most actors avoid watching their own films???
- phyx726, on 07/03/2009, -0/+16The first time I listened to myself on a recording I learned I'm a douchebag. Never again.
- Diancechet, on 07/03/2009, -1/+13you pervert!
- Rogpog777, on 07/03/2009, -0/+10I meant to say my dad was an extra, Depp was a fairly big supporting role in it, lol.
- RoboDonut, on 07/02/2009, -3/+13I enjoyed them :\
- cuoops, on 07/03/2009, -0/+10Depp on Letterman talking about this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwkS-ERuNuk - Decimit, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9I thought Depp did a very good job in all three movies, but the writer/director/editor of the 3rd one should be drug out into the middle of the road and beaten.
- Decimit, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9I can easily see where music would be much different than a movie. A lot of musicians write their own music. This becomes something a little more personal. An actor usually has no connection to the movie other than a single part. They didn't write it, they didn't direct it, they just act. It probably becomes much more like a job where a musician keeps at least some of the personal factor.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9I'm the same way with music. Not that my music is as big as Johnny Depp or anything...
After you spend so much time working on something, and listening (or in his case, watching/saying lines/etc) over and over, once it's done, you're just sort of relieved. - Rogpog777, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8Johnny Depp is an incredible actor. He was an extra on Platoon (long story, shot in the Philippines) and he got to hang out with the actors, but Depp would always be immersed in his character, trying to think how his character would do something as mundane as drinking from a cup. I mean, he was so good, a scene that featured him (idk if he was talking about things back at home or what, I've forgotten) was cut so his acting wouldn't overshadow Charlie Sheen's. Idk, these stories he told me always made up for Depp's eccentricity, for me.
- netfool, on 07/03/2009, -1/+9That's too bad Johnny, you've missed some pretty good movies!
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+7Ray Liotta does this as well.
I can't fathom where I'd be without having witnessed the greatness that is Goodfellas. - palehorse864, on 07/03/2009, -1/+7I think Secret Window might have been better received and more talked about if fight club hadn't arrived first.
- AxYoung, on 07/03/2009, -0/+6It's obvious the people commenting above me avoided to read what they wrote.
Way to inspire Johnny! - HCviolence, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Don't worry Johnny I'll watch it twice.
- thizzlebot, on 07/03/2009, -2/+7I guess you dont like good movies.
- RoboDonut, on 07/02/2009, -3/+8Well, if he's worked on a movie for months, then he's probably sick of it and he knows how it's going to end. Also, when you've worked on a project, you tend to see all its flaws. I know that when I've been working on a program, I tend to want to go back and rewrite the whole thing because I'm not happy with some block of code.
I can't see any reason why he _would_ want to see it. - fluidfoundation, on 07/02/2009, -4/+9That explains Wonka and Secret Window.
- MasterEvilAce, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5To see the final product and the special effects which could not be seen due to green screen, etc. etc. Also to see what cuts may or may have not been used.
Actors are a major part of movies, but a tiny part in the grand scheme of things. The final production contains many different cuts split together which were filmed out of chronological order. Music ads atmosphere, and, again, special effects add an entire new dimension.
I would love to see the final product of something I was involved in. - littlejoe, on 07/03/2009, -1/+6Daniel Day Lewis has said he does the same thing as well.
- birch25, on 07/03/2009, -1/+5I've made few short films in my day and I can tell you that even after spending a lot of time on them (although my projects only lasted about a month) I still like watching them from time to time. I can't imagine working on something for months/years and not watching the final product.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4When one of his sons came back from watching Willy Wonka, he quoted Charlie and said, "You're weird" to Depp.
- srg13, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Why? Sweeny Todd was an awesome movie...
- duniyadnd, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3So how would he handle himself during a Premiere?
- RatatRatR, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4I don't know, but I think every musician whose Last FM profile I've ever looked at has a surprising tendency to frequently listen to their own music.
- IUAndar, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3See, I'd expect them to watch it so they can critique and improve their craft. But then again Daniel Day Lewis and Depp are doing it so what the ***** do I know.
- Xaevier, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Yeah I can't even stand listening to recordings of myself I get all self conscious and creeped out.
- AxYoung, on 07/03/2009, -2/+5Congrats!
- mfdave, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3i just avoid tim burton movies... which he is usually in.
- nichiplechle, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Have antonio banderas and angelina jolie watched original sin ?
- Ajajadude, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3I'm the same way. I hate watching myself in recordings. I avoided paying attention to all the video projects I had to do in grade school when they were being played in-class.
- Stinkylicious, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4I just got out of watching Public Enemies. Someone tampered with the display sign so now it reads "Pubic Enemies". The End.
- Decimit, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I could imagine it could be like this for some people on vocals, but instruments are different with me at least. I don't sing but I play several different instruments and I like listening to my own stuff. Maybe it's because I write/play the type of music I want to hear and I'm not listening to my own voice played back to me.
- Sherman901, on 07/02/2009, -3/+5I heard about this like 4 years ago on an interview he had done where he said basically the same thing.
- ThatNeilDude, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Me too.
- elliotclowes, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Why does watching the final result of all your hard work become about money? Do musicians not listen to their albums, at least once or twice. You need to review your work in order to improve your craft. Creativity doesn't grow in isolation. Oh yeah, and Public Enemies sucked.
- TDDebug, on 07/03/2009, -1/+3Your comments is good. Dugg.
- jesterselv, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I also try to avoid watching Johnny Depp movies.
- nasdbroker73, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Me too
- snoobies, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Me Too. I try avoiding seeing your movies too.
- donkz, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2good for him because Public Enemies was painful to watch... story and direction sucked terribly
- Emilio8605, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2He says hello to the cameras and shakes hands, and when everybody goes in to watch the movie, he doesn't. What's so complicated about that process?
