http://img442.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shortcirc ... - askjeffro, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Syd Mead's work is always a joy to take in. My favorite by far however was his work on Bladerunner. Maybe its just me, but with all the CG today the "gritty" feeling of past sci-fi is missing in modern works...

- TheFamousOne2, on 04/23/2008, -18/+24Yes!!! They need to make a new Short Circuit sooooo bad!!!
- LanceWindu, on 04/23/2008, -1/+30They ARE making one.
- weeeezzll, on 04/23/2008, -2/+7They DID make one. It was called Short Circuit 2 and it sucked. They had a script for a Short Circuit 3 (early 90's) but the producers thought that it sucked more than 2 so they scrapped it.
Short Circuit 1 was F'n awesome though. Would have been impossible for them to make a decent sequel to it.- returnofthemac, on 04/23/2008, -4/+2They're just re-purposing the robot design in Disney's "WALL*E" movie. Check out the trailer for it on Apple's site.
- belteshazzar, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3No.2 wasn't that bad ... it was a kids film. I thought it did well and really did create an emotional bond between the audience and No.5 ... It's like Star Wars Episode 3, you just have to not watch the final couple of scenes and it become a much better film.

- ZiggyDaZigster, on 04/23/2008, -7/+9I can't wait! I loved though move when I was a kid. I set that picture as my background.
- schizogony, on 04/23/2008, -10/+5Why the hell would anyone bury a comment like this? This is why Digg is ridiculous.
- GiggleStick, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3Probably the retarded grammar. You can overlook obvious typos, etc. But, "I loved though move" is getting to be a bit much.
- bitterbug, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2it's not retarded grammar. It's typos. The sentence is "I loved the movie when I was a kid."
It's muscle memory cranking out similar words when typing fast. I find it's pretty common for me to go back over something I've written and find a word has been replaced by a more commonly used word that starts our sounds the same.
Some day we'll have a button beside "Check spelling" that says "Make sense?" - GiggleStick, on 04/24/2008, -1/+1Well I've always defined "typo"as meaning to type a certain letter, but your clumsy fingers type the wrong one. In other words, you know how to spell the word, it's a simple mistake. When you use the wrong word, or wrong form of a word, that's bad grammar. I'm not upset about it or anything, I was just trying to answer schizogony's question. Maybe Ziggy's first language isn't English. Also, how is though more commonly used than the? After a point, it's too strenuous to try and figure out what they were really trying to say, and people start to digg you down.

- mywhitenoise, on 04/23/2008, -3/+35Why? You want that ***** remake that'll probably be littered with CG instead of a real robot?
- Morality, on 04/23/2008, -4/+1Because they were so successful with a real robot.
- badassninja, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1They were. People born before 2000 still had a once of "imagination(google it)".

- boombye, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5The Indian guy in Short Circuit 1 & 2 was played by Fisher Stevens who isn't Indian.
- Tomchei, on 04/23/2008, -4/+4None of the Indians or Chinese that were portrayed in cinema and TV from before the 70s were the proper ethnicity.
- caselogic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5Short Circuit was 80s.

The 'Alien' in Alien was just a guy in a suit. - VinceNoir, on 04/23/2008, -1/+8@Tomchei
Exactly my point you n00bwire! We aliens are sick and tired of being portrayed by CGI or humans in "alien" costumes! It's about damn time that some Earthers get some sense in their heads and let real aliens play in roles that are supposed to represent us.
We're offended by the "greys" with those ridiculous looking black goggle eyes. It's a gross stereotype and has no basis in reality. Sure some aliens look kind of like that, but many of us don't even have eyes! Why would we want to be crippled with visual organs when we can feel the entire electromagnetic spectrum with our skin?
And another thing... We don't all speak English! For crying out loud it is time frame 35203 of the Ee range! Get with the program humans!
- boombye, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5The Indian guy in Short Circuit 1 & 2 was played by Fisher Stevens who isn't Indian.

- BigW, on 04/23/2008, -3/+13Actually, no, no they don't.
- Rhendal, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8The only thing good that will come out of the remake is no Steve Guttenberg. And even then it pisses me off that Steve Guttenberg isn't in it.
- djdementia, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Sequels and remakes are rarely half as good as the original. Leave well enough alone!
- metalmilitia430, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5http://youtube.com/watch?v=FAyjdeEu7FA

Also I own part one so don't bury my comment for not being a fan.. bury it for the same reasons that all my comments get buried... because it's lame.- WALRUSJAMES, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2if you insist.
- sgtpppr, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3I hope to god that was sarcasm. They are not only making a new Short Circuit, but i'm fairly sure it is a sign of the apocalypse. Of all the movies to remake, they pick one that was only cool for about 38 minutes in 1986. It would've been a hell of a lot easier to try and bring back slap bracelets or pogo balls.
- skyroket, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2I had a tiger-striped slap bracelet.

- weeeezzll, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2Airwolf the helicopter was awesome, but the show always sucked balls. I knew that even as a kid...
- bitterbug, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Ah, Airwolf. Every episode required the helicopter to do a loop and fly inverted for a couple of seconds.
Then after it was cancelled some smart guy decided to make it in Canada. I only saw a couple of episodes but they used explosions and stock from the original series rather than a budget.
Funny though, I've always wanted to be a heli pilot after watching that show as a kid.

- skyroket, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I will add to the dissent. I enjoyed Short Circuit, and I enjoyed a lot of other things about the 80s, but I don't see why a black and white concept art is so popular. It's not the most awesome thing I've ever seen, but it's cool enough I guess for a digg. Maybe it was cool enough for a lot of people. The Digg button is yes or no, so it doesn't necessarily mean EVERYONE thought it was the MOST BADASS thing ever.

- BryanG412, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Johny Five is classic...great movie
- Monsterchef, on 04/23/2008, -6/+19The picture is getting dugg because everyone over the age of 35 that has scene the Wall-e trailer knew there was something fishy. We knew it was a blatant ripoff of short circuit, but thought that maybe we were just mistaken, were jaded from the early 80's and not sure if anyone else remembers the movie. We were not sure if anyone else had the hots for Alley Sheedy and we did not want to be the ones to admit any of this.
So today some genius simply posts a picture of the robot from Short Circuit and all of us 35 year old + people that visit Digg, put two and two together and realize we were not alone in our assumptions about wall-e.
If I am wrong, just scratch all this and go about your day
MC- BadseedJR, on 04/23/2008, -0/+23over 35? I'm 26 and I know that thing was ripped off. It wasn't THAT old of a movie.
- U2groupie, on 04/25/2008, -0/+130 chiming in here... I remember seeing both Short Circuit movies at the theater when I was a kid. And I still have the original VHS tapes... and the DVDs as well, since I found them in the bargain bin at WalMart a few weeks ago. Will probably have to buy them again on Blu-Ray... needless to say, this is one of those movies that is universal to all geeks.
Now, if they'd just make that long-rumored Goonies 2...

- Genetico, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7yea same here. I'm 24 and I remember the two movies quite well. I still even have the VHS copies in my basement!
- Morality, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4*parents
parents basement you mean.- skyroket, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah it's illegal to have your own basement until you're older than 24.

- VeritasAequitas, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4I'm 24 here and I love that movie, hell I sat my fiance down and made her watch it, that and the Goonies.
- Scaryclouds, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3I believe that is now ex-fiancee
- AYork, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Not sure if Alley Sheedy was hot? Not sure?
Are you sure you're male? And straight? - seefresh, on 04/23/2008, -0/+424 here and grew up a huge fan of Johnny 5. I made my wife watch short circuit after she ponted out "this cool movie coming out" called Wall E
- crila, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6im 25 and johnny five is one of my favorite robots of all time.
- darkstar07, on 04/23/2008, -0/+325 here, big fan of Johnny 5 when I was a kid. When me and my girlfriend saw the poster for Wall E at the movies, we right away knew they were ripping off Johnny 5. Both of us thought Short Circuit was so awesome when we were kids.
- JrGhoull, on 04/23/2008, -0/+121...dont remember the 2nd but i remember the first..the part where hes getting beaten up and is begging for them to stop still hurts...
- skyfox2k, on 04/24/2008, -0/+123 chiming in, Short Circuit 1 and 2 are 2 of my most beloved films from my childhood. I even made a motorised little Johnny 5 like the ones at the start of SC2 out of lego. I even used those four long light pieces with LED's at either end for the eyes and had catterpillar track motorised and a tiny red motor from the space shuttle set controlling his rear wheel.
What was awesome was when I played the angry SC scene, I'd put the red light caps over his eyes and cover him in random technik to make him look totally badass.
Short Circuit and I were the shiznit. - Scaryclouds, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Short Circuit isn't just for you 30+ people, as you can see most people in the early twenties remember short circuit quite well.
- morphboy23, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Just about 21 here, and I also still have the tapes. Recorded straight from WB-11's afternoon movie specials!
- jhaks, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1How is Wall-E a rip off of Short Circuit? The two movies have almost nothing in common except for robots and the two main characters look slightly similar. Am I missing something?
- skyroket, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1The two main characters look slightly similar and it seems that both movies have the MAIN THEME of the robot developing some humanistic personality. That's about all you need for our generation to call you a ripoff.

- GhandicapXRS, on 04/23/2008, -0/+13Anyone remember the movie called "Batteries not included" I used to love it, but If I saw it again, I'd think it sucked.
- 032483, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3No it's still awesome.
- endlessoul, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Suck it does not. Raul Julia playing a scuzzy landlord who then sees the light after the apartment complex bands together to save their homes? It's one of my childhood favorites. The tall black man was a touching character, too.

- GhandicapXRS, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3I actually just looked up the trailer on Youtube and it's actually better than I remember, or at least I thought I remembered. Or thought I would remember?
- captainanndor, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2That's definitely something I need to go and buy now. I loved that and Short Circuit as a kid equally. For some reason I feel like Batteries Not Included was on tv a lot. We watched it all the time. Short Circuit was the one my brother and I picked out every single time we went to rent a movie. I don't know why my parents didn't just buy a copy after the first 6 times.
- GhandicapXRS, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2I was the same except it was Tranformers cartoons and Police Academy videos
- sgtpppr, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1A lot of those movies are no where near as good as you remember them. I watched Adventures in Babysitting the other day and it caused me terrible physical pain to sit through. Go watch Cocoon again, come back here, and honestly tell me you thought it was a good movie. It's just not possible.
- 032483, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Cocoon? I mean, I remember liking it when I was little but I think thats more a movie little kids and old people would normally like. I'd digg it cuz Steve guttenberg was in it. That crazy dancin bastard trying to put it in that hot alien chick. Won't he ever learn?
- friarcrazy, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2I was so expecting the first comment on this submission to be "IS ALIVE!!!!"
- usedtobemac, on 04/23/2008, -6/+0Exactly how does this make the front page?
