addictive is an adjective
addicting is a participle adjective.
That is an addictive substance.

This whole holier than thou grammar nazi circle jerk that's going around is more annoying than the errors themselves, all it does is take people off topic.
- Verdanic, on 04/21/2008, -1/+3It really shouldn't take so long to make sure your comment makes grammatical sense. It's just something you should be paying attention to when you're writing/typing in general.

- robthom, on 04/20/2008, -4/+2The new one or the original?
Did you know there was an original?
Obviously people enjoy these hollywood popcorn bonds, I have no problem with that. But they aren't classics. So the props from these movies wouldn't easily be described as classic either. About as classic as Nick Cages volvo from the rock.- palehorse864, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Umm, which original was a classic? There was the made for TV version with an American James Bond (the first adaptation of Bond to television or film I believe) and a movie called Casino Royale which was a bond spoof that had very little to do with the actual book.
- robthom, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1To tell you the truth I haven't seen either. I saw part of the original, or 1967 version on cable but it didn't particularly interest me. I didn't call that a classic either, but at least it wasn't a cynical hollywood remake. I'd say its still more classic than the latest mission impossible clone just for peter sellers.
- palehorse864, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Heh, considering the other bonds have little relation to the book, I would hardly consider the current one a hollywood remake, though it might be cynical. You're right about Peter Sellers though.
- robthom, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1I really have to read the bond books one of these days. I've been intending to do that for awhile but I just haven't gotten my hands on one yet. I want to check out the destroyer books too even though I heard they're kind of shlocky.
- palehorse864, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1At least, no more so than any of the other Fleming adaptations. Still, trying to reboot the whole franchise was a poor choice. I mean, the franchise didn't need a complete reboot after Moonraker. The last Brosnan bonds certainly didn't ruin it if it survived that. They could just tone down the gadgets in the next film and make it more Conneryish, with Brosnan or Craig at the helm.
Granted, there are things they could do with Craig bond. Give him a new Bentley as a personal car (Fleming's bond had a Bentley, though a modern Bond would have a modern Bentley. Craig comes fairly close to looking like Fleming's commissioned sketch of bond if he only had the hair right, so they could encourage that change). - robthom, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1I heard that the new casino royale was at least tastefully done and the best in awhile. Thats encouraging and I'll give it a try when it comes on cable. I honestly stopped following the bond movies around the chris walken/tia carrera/grace jones period. I've seen a few snippets here and there, but nothing to change my mind that the bond movies had become predictable hollywood fluff. Its like its become such a reliable franchise that they are doing everything by the blockbuster book, which usually makes for a technically well crafted but ultimately soulless and boring viewing experience IMO. The explosions is not enough.
- palehorse864, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1My friend, I think your last sentence could be the title for a new bond film. :)
Goldeneye was pretty good, though it focused mostly on action. I really liked Connery's slower pace in a lot of scenes and miss that. Casino Royale actually hit surprisingly close to elements of the book from what I have seen of both plots, though the location of the casino was changed, etc, certain elements were removed (Bond's hand getting scarred, etc.)
If you're looking for a decent Moore bond, Live and Let die had some good action scenes. The crocodile (or alligator, not sure) walk is incredible for the fact that the stuntman actually stepped across real crocodiles, though it took several takes and a week or two of letting the understandably angry crocodiles calm down so they could be stepped on again.)
As for moonraker, the movie bears no relation at all to Flemings book. I picked up the book and enjoyed it, though for the first few pages bond frets over stuff that makes for decent reading but not good screen play. Paperwork issues, worrying about mandatory retirement age for agents, lots of inner monologue (Fleming had to change the mandatory retirement age, which I think was about 35 or 40 in the book because the Bond character became so popular. The idea was that agents who had aged to a certain point got a desk job or other government work.) You also learn a bit more about Bond's home life in the books (for what you see of him in the movies, book Bond has an ordinary paycheck, though he bought quite a few luxury items after Casino Royale because while the government funded his casino dealings, he got to keep a lot of his winnings.

It's a little ironic that the stunt driver lost control of the Aston in real life, just like James in in Casino Royale.
- domomike, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1I still don't get it. What's the big deal about losing something that's replaceable?
- Vito82, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4You might be thining of the DB5 That appeared in Goldfinger and Thunderball's an all out James Bond Icon
DEE BEE FIVE Phonetically
not the DEE BEE ESS which is a brand new Aston Martin and also the name of an older Aston model which was ussed in On Her Majesty's Secret Service
From the Wheels on the car being pulled out of the lake it appers that this must be the new DBS not the old one or the DB5 both of which had Wire Wheels. - Gnasche, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1I think the main problem is that there isn't a replacement immediately available. Movie shoots are tediously scheduled, and you can't just say "We'll do the car scenes next month", without it adding a whole lot to the budget. Hopefully Aston Martin can supply them with a different car soon that everyone is happy with.
- jqgarcia, on 04/20/2008, -2/+0That'd be the old DBS that only appeared in On Her Majesty's Secret Service? Not really iconic, per se ...
- UnSuperSaid, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9FAIL
- Spamiclese, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1That's what you get when you have a stunt man deliver a world-class car...
- salvnaut, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Someone felt just like 007... for a moment.
I wonder if he swam across the lake, walked naked to a hotel reception and took a room. - salvnaut, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1.
- Beanstudd2, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2I see your point
- melllvar37, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9But, Will It Blend?
- Hypomanic, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Damn you.
- Juaquin, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3It wasn't a stunt driver - it was an engineer. He was just bringing the car to the set for the real driver to drive.
- TexHex, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0Poetic justice for only having the Aston on screen for 20s before crashing it in Casino Royale..
Karma's a bitch - SR388, on 04/20/2008, -0/+7Anyone notice that the volume toggle in the player on the site goes to 11?
