- Awwzm, on 07/14/2009, -3/+160Not sure why they're calling this a remake. The title of the movie "Kung Fu Kid" and it takes place in China.
More of a rip off than a remake. - syphern, on 07/14/2009, -3/+136Nooooo not a remake! OMG WITH WILL SMITH JUNIOR! FAAAAAAAAAIL!
- demonfafa, on 07/14/2009, -4/+99Jackie Chan is Chinese. Miyagi was Okinawan. Not that I care about the race, but the cultural differences are kind of important here.
- Imissnaptime, on 07/14/2009, -2/+69But Jackie Chan actually knows martial arts.
- Smokeydabear, on 07/14/2009, -0/+62Stop ***** up my youthful memories by remaking 80s movies for Cripes sake!
- greatwiseone, on 07/14/2009, -1/+61Yet another victim in the "let's remake every ***** movie/series from the 80's because we're too stupid to come up with an original idea" era. (Yes, Michael Bay, I'm talking to you...)
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/14/2009, -7/+46Okinawa is traditionally more chinese than japanese anyway. Besides when have American movies ever cared what kind of asian they were casting?
- onlyseano, on 07/14/2009, -2/+40Chan does not equal Miyagi. It's a square peg in a round hole.
- thanakar, on 07/14/2009, -0/+31WTF..why are they even remaking this?
- itsthehumidity, on 07/14/2009, -2/+32I'm pretty disappointed that Jaden Smith is involved.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+29An open letter to the film industry:
To whom it may concern,
STOP MAKING REMAKES.
Sincerely,
Me - AoiTakuma, on 07/14/2009, -0/+26Luckily the movie is going to be called Kung Fu Kid, not Karate Kid as I had originally feared.
- PhantomRogue, on 07/14/2009, -0/+25Jesus christ. Hollywood, get some new ***** writers, new Ideas and new stories will be better than horrible remakes. Leave my childhood alone.
- RegalBegal, on 07/14/2009, -1/+26why why WHY?! Why can't Hollywood MOVE THE ***** ON FROM THE 80'S!? What a ***** joke.
***** everyone who lines up to see this, it make me want to ***** puke. - markgl, on 07/14/2009, -0/+23The 80's are getting man handled by these stupid remakes.
- Blisshead, on 07/14/2009, -0/+21Don't give them any idea.
- NJank, on 07/14/2009, -0/+20but at least you know Chan's going to kick someone in the gut, back flip off a wall, crack a joke, and then SLAM that peg through the hole with his forehead!
- iDoraemon, on 07/14/2009, -0/+19Jackie Chan playing a role similar to Mr. Miyagi? That means he's old now. :(
- SwampyUK, on 07/14/2009, -0/+18and after that: remakes of remakes of 80's movies.
- cygnus2112, on 07/14/2009, -3/+20Maybe they can put Godzilla in there somewhere. If it's going to be a bomb, they may as well go all out.
- DeskFlyer, on 07/14/2009, -0/+17Because Hollywood is out of ideas.
- AraleNorimaki, on 07/14/2009, -3/+19Oh My God It's Jackie Chan

My thoughts exactly. The second I read that Will Smith Jr will be in it I saw disaster written all over it. They take a good movie like Karate Kid and ruin it by putting him in it.
I saw the "day the earth stood still " and I did not even know that Will Smith Jr was in but for some reason when I saw him I knew it was him and man was he ever annoying. He really ruined the movie. The movie sucked but he made me want shoot myself.
Then again he is a billy kid and billy kids like to ruin movies. - NeddieSeagoon, on 07/14/2009, -0/+15Bonsai!
- PuffyPuf, on 07/14/2009, -0/+15PLEASE, no more remakes! What has happened to creativity?
- NJank, on 07/14/2009, -0/+15The Breakfast Club 2: This time it's XTreme! *guitar riff*
- robbiev80, on 07/14/2009, -1/+16Will Smith's kid is annoying as *****.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+14No *****, what's next a remake of the Goonies? Gremlins? ET?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/14/2009, -0/+14Coming up next: remakes of 90's movies...
- phyx726, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13As a Chinese guy I'm glad you pointed out the difference but at the same time, if it was a brit like Hugh Laurie playing an American no one would give a damn. But of course, if he's Asian, people find it alarming that separate Chinese people from Japanese. I hate it when some white dude thinks I'm Japanese as well but I'm just glad there are Asian people in more movies. Sucks that they get pidgin-holed into roles like these but whatever.
- Sherman901, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13No, no, no... it's a reboot!
/s - LocalDocal, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13Will Smith wants his son to become a famous movie star like him...and he probably sees this as a chance to increase his star power by becoming a great director.
- UselessTrivia, on 07/14/2009, -2/+13The beautiful part of the Miyagi role is that Pat Morita never really needed to know any. He was a pacifist.
- scuba7183, on 07/14/2009, -2/+13I REFUSE
- borez, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10Money.
- exhale99, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10Why the hell is Will Smith's kid involved? This isn't going to go well...
- sdphost, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10He's been showing his age for years but yeah it makes me sad too :(
Even though Jackie Chan ismakes more movies than whores ***** costumers it still feels like there isn't enough Jackie Chan. - Rachelj96, on 07/14/2009, -1/+11screw you Hollywood.....I don't have to take your damn rip offs of my childhood anymore.... I'm boycotting the theater!
Well, after Harry Potter....then I'm boycotting the theater! - milarepa, on 07/14/2009, -1/+10Just take my childhood behind the barn and shoot it already.
- socivitus, on 07/14/2009, -2/+11Agreed +1
- sharkydog, on 07/14/2009, -0/+8The name "grasshopper" is from the 70's TV show "Kung Fu" with David Carradine, not the Karate Kid. Master Po used to call Kwai Chang Caine grasshopper, not Mr. Miyagi to Daniel-san.
- robbiev80, on 07/14/2009, -0/+8$$$$$$!
- osko2052, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7Howard the Duck?
- PorkChopSammich, on 07/14/2009, -5/+12"Banzai, Daniel-san."
- tizle, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7they will probably spend about $30-$40 million to make this movie. It will be promoted like hell by Will Smith and will probably reach the top 5 movies list when released. By the time it is done with theaters and goes to DVD, it will have made about $25-$30 million and then it will make a few million through DVD sales. Then, it will probably be picked up by USA or TBS and make another few million. So all said and done, this movie will probably make about $50-$60 million. That's a profit and that is all what the makers of this movie are thinking about. It is unfortunate but this kind of crap will keep happening in the name of profit, creativity be damned.
They were trying the same thing with Police Academy, where they had a new movie scheduled about a year ago. Fortunately, that plan got shelved. It just didn't have any star power so it wouldn't have made any profit.
it is sad to see the lack of creativity from Hollywood. - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Jackie Chan wax off
- marmotjmarmot, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7Why does this need to be re-made? If Hollywood is that desperate for ideas, why not re-make some thing that was crappy to start with?
- protogenxl, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6I think Sonny Chiba would have been a better choice.
- TwistedSilver, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Michael bay should win the Epic Fail Director award.
- slantyeyed, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5doesn't anyone in hollywood write scripts anymore or just buy rights for remakes?
