- jonohull, on 11/17/2007, -3/+26Yeah, and if you're going to do something illegal, why pay for it?
- indy500fan, on 11/17/2007, -6/+27Lets see:
a. Pay for a movie, download at crappy speeds, and still not have a "legal" copy.
b. Download a movie from Usenet and get great speeds, and not have a "legal" copy.
That's not too hard of a choice. - ScaredOfTheMan, on 11/17/2007, -3/+13It really is like playing Whack-a-Mole, the studios are worried about this site or that site, meanwhile for every site they shut down multiple other spring up in its place, because ultimately some consumers, somewhere are willing to pay for the service (even with torrents out there). I don't get it, they could stop all this tomorrow, if they would simply offer what the customer want, reasonably priced, DRM free, common format, high res movies (or music or whatever). Good luck to MPAA trying to stop this.
- m00n1, on 11/17/2007, -0/+7Wonder if they have aXXo rips up there.
- jjalsop, on 11/17/2007, -0/+7I'll be sticking with torrents.
Why should I pay for a (seemingly) illegal download when I can just do it for free? - DamnMan, on 11/17/2007, -2/+6The second rule of usenet is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT USENET!
i give this site inside 2 weeks to live now that its on diggs front page. - EztliNahua, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3Why does this site seem to think AllOfMP3 was shut down? All it did was change name to http://www.mp3sparks.com/. And http://www.allofmp3.ru/ is a music news/journals site.
- Vassili84, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3don't know why you got dugg down American Psycho owns
- wafu, on 11/17/2007, -4/+7dammit! the first rule of usenet is do not speak about usenet!!!
- brewno2k, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3This site is trash. Resolution of Transformers for iPod: 320x128
Thanks, but no thanks. - WRXFiles, on 11/17/2007, -0/+3Why do they think that prices ranging up to $5/movie are cheap?
I am not paying more to 'buy' a movie to watch once, than I am to 'rent' a movie to watch once. If the movie is so spectacular that I want to see it again after watching it, I will then add the DVD to my collection.
In fact, considering that I am the one supplying the bandwidth that they may use for distribution (P2P), and there are no additional pressing charges, or transport/mailing charges for copies over the internet?
Think $1 per copy and I am all over it - natastna2, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2A word to the wiser... rapidshare.com
- HUKI365, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2What format? A format that will work uncoverted with iPods? Zunes? Creative players? On Linux? On Macs? Tottaly open source format? Universal solutions are almost impossible.
- badenglishihave, on 11/18/2007, -0/+2DivX 5 = suck. I like how all the mainstream people are finally using DivX when the rest of us switched to the vastly superior XviD a long time ago.
- 0xFEEDFACE, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2It's not really that apt of a comparison. AllofMP3.com wasn't big just because they offered cheap music -- there were (and are) tons of stores offering similarly priced downloads. Problem is, their songs are typically only available in the 192-270kbps range -- which can be annoying, since they're rarely available in anything other than MP3. AllOfMP3.com a bit different. Bit rate and codec can be chosen, all the way up to the source material. For some albums, this is 384kbps MP3s -- these are typically the albums that were added to the store early in the life of AllOfMP3. A major portion of the albums have a lossless rip (FLAC, I believe) of the CD as their source. Considering they'll deliver anything from a lossless transcode to a standard MP3 at reasonable prices, they've got a hell of a lot more flexibility than the other stores.
This seems to only have one format available -- and it's certainly not high quality enough to warrant $5 of my money. 720 x 300px? Are you kidding me? That's 121, 920 pixels short of EDTV. I'd pay $0.25 for the convenience, sure (just as I did in 2002 with AllOfMP3.com) -- but asking the same price as a bargain-bin DVD is too much for a low-res rip compressed at a (barely) acceptable bitrate with an old version of DivX.
Of course with good old BBS's (and IRC), you can get direct links to direct DVD rips, or ultra-high-bitrate x264/AAC 5.1 rips... but regardless, even compared to the ease of torrenting (or Stage6, for that matter) this is a mediocre bargain at best.
Oh well. I guess it's better than DRM. - qwickone, on 11/17/2007, -4/+6I think I'll stick with torrents for now, esp because download speeds are slow.
- cawfee, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2... until they whack the site and force the operators to disclose all those names, email addresses and credit card information, then conduct a witch hunt on all the users. Paying for something legal, yeah. Not paying for something illegal, yeah, maybe. Paying for something decisively illegal? I don't think so.
- nastajus, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2a tax for the torrent-unknowing... but, hey, easy to find multiple formats is kinda nice...
- cherwilco, on 11/17/2007, -0/+2what about providing bandwidth by seeding?
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1If there's no DRM, you can convert it.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1MAFIAA shill.
- cvindustries, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1As nice as that sounds, you just explained exactly why copyright law was created. These are goods where the expense is in the fixed cost, not the variable, and the replication by other parties takes away the ability of the producer to decide what to charge for it (which, by nature, creates a black market). In order for the good to be created, the control must rest with the producer. If they did like you suggested and "stopped all this", their total profit would go down, although it would bring the production level closer to the socially optimal level. Take an economics class.
- zilla151, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Just another reason to expand on the movie download services that are legit. The one thing these guys have right is that their movies will play on any device. The user chooses. That's where it needs to be.
- KineticShampoo, on 11/17/2007, -7/+8Dugg for "American Psycho" being in the article. That movie rocked.
- natastna2, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Lol I've been using projectw.org and rapidshare.com in conjunction for years. Just don't tell the unwashed masses!
- Oea420, on 11/17/2007, -1/+2Heh, 2 movies = 1 month of easynews... uhh and I can stream anything with that oh so handy auto unrar so uhh, infinite internet TIVO vs THIS?? no thanks
- sevenalive, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1projectw.org FTW. warez-bb.org is trying to be a projectw clone, its a lame attempt!
- Random23, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1So heres a question, is the sound on these 5.1?
I'm cool with saving my torrent ratio by trying this out. - heavygravity, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1For those that want more information on what ZML actually offers, there is a review with actual info here: http://www.songboom.com/zml_review.html .
- arcooke, on 11/17/2007, -1/+2... says the guy who probably just learned about it a few months ago on Digg.
- ReligionOfPeace, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1They couldn't do it before, why do you think they can do it now?
- mrsteveman1, on 11/17/2007, -1/+2I think the point was if you're going to pay for something you should probably be funding bandwidth somewhere along the line.....
But yea i agree. - mrsteveman1, on 11/17/2007, -0/+1Who said anything about one format? Why wouldn't it be ok to just offer multiple formats? If you are paying for something anyway, and these people happen to own the master copies, they can put it in any format customers want.
If i had to guess though, h.264 is closer to that "open common format" goal than anything. - mrsteveman1, on 11/17/2007, -1/+1Except that is similarly considered illegal, they're talking about DRM-less, not DRM-"butkindacrackedsoicanripit".
- mydave, on 08/04/2008, -0/+0I like it. sound is great!
http://search.ashtech.info/%20AllofMP3%20%20movies ... - mrsteveman1, on 11/17/2007, -1/+1It's fairly obvious why this grey market exists: its called market forces. People are willing to pay people who don't even own the copyright for something they can't otherwise get, because the people who own those copyrights refuse to make products the market wants.
- sunman6, on 02/06/2008, -0/+0ZML seems to be shut down. I also tried getting into The Movie Library IN2Video, etc. but no luck. Tried to email info@zml.com and it failed to go thru. Anyone heard if they're shut down? Can I get refunded for the $49.95 I just gave them this week? I didn't even realize that this biz was illegal. Doh!
- mrogi, on 11/17/2007, -1/+0ZML offers only the most popular movies that can be found and downloaded for free from many sources. Wanna know how lame this site is? Their film Noir category offers only 1 movie>
- smarty927, on 11/17/2007, -3/+2Remember the first rule of Usenet Please! Don't speak about it!!!!!
- stubear, on 11/17/2007, -1/+0Even with DRM, DVDs are easy enough for a monkey to convert to any format one chooses and they are reasonably priced, especially if you consider that you can rip it to multiple formats.
- my10cent, on 11/18/2007, -1/+0hmm
1) Download Illegal Movies and go to jail
2) Break the law at any speed and go to jail
Easy Choice buy your movies at Walmart - hollyminkowski, on 11/17/2007, -2/+1A word to the wise....usenet
- 00000, on 11/17/2007, -2/+0or get yourself some giganews
- inactive, on 11/17/2007, -3/+1Well, I haven't looked around this site, but the reason I'd pay for allofmp3 is because I don't have to search around for what I want, I just type in the name. I don't pay for the music, I pay for the convenience. Usenet's selection sucks, too.
- akatherder, on 11/17/2007, -8/+2I thought youtube was like that.
- msaleem, on 11/17/2007, -12/+3Damn you!
/kidding.
