- ileftfark, on 07/10/2009, -8/+44Why would a ***** actor be *expected* to further a civil rights so-called movement in the first place?
Your Cat: Is He Making Cars Safer? - rehkcts, on 07/09/2009, -5/+41That's a good question to ask, especially since the movie hasn't come out yet.
- MicControl, on 07/10/2009, -8/+40Just like in Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen is pushing the limits with a stereotypical character to show how unaccepting Americans can be of things/people that are different then themselves.
In short, this movie is going to be f***ing hilarious. - h0ser, on 07/10/2009, -14/+40I have no problem with gay people, I do have a problem with the over the top flamers with the limp wrist and valley girl speech. I just don't want to be around people like that, gay or not.
- SpykerSpeed, on 07/10/2009, -4/+22As a gay man I find it pretty condescending when people say, "Bruno proves that Americans are unaccepting bigots!".
That's like saying Tracy Jordan's antics are representative of the entire black community, and therefore anyone who doesn't like Tracy Jordan is a racist.
Bruno isn't about gay people. It's about a dumbass fashion designer who's incredibly irritating, who happens to be gay. - DickyT83, on 07/10/2009, -3/+19Well if my cat is keeping my wife pre-occupied, thus keeping her off the road, I'd say yes.
- styx31989, on 07/10/2009, -1/+16Hell, I'M gay and I can't stand being around the flamboyant ones!
- Skurt, on 07/10/2009, -3/+15This summers only gay film? You haven't seen Transformers yet have you...
- emailowndme, on 07/10/2009, -8/+19So ummm....
Did Borat help Kazak's?
To assume Bruno is meant to be anything other than entertainment is just stupid. - Gravey9, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11People know this is satirical right? If they can't take this movie as a joke then I pity them.
- gvoakes, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12He cured my AIDS. So yeah, he's kind of a big deal.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -6/+15
Did you just compare being gay to being a pothead? Wow. - Hetman, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9Have you watched the movie?
- sockpuppets, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8Are you coming onto me in a way I don't understand?
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8Roger Ebert's review:
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic ... - Hetman, on 07/10/2009, -0/+8Sexaul identity and sexual preference are two different things. Some men can act feminim and be attracted to women. Some men can be very masculine and be attracted to men. One should not confuse the two.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -14/+21Sorry, just don't think the dude's funny.
- btschul, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8The problem is that he portrays these characters as both foreign/gay and at the same time ***** retarded and creepy and obscene and with no respect for other people's personal space. Just because some guy runs away from Borat after he tries to hug him in the street doesn't make him a hate mongering xenophobic bigot, it makes him a guy who didn't want a creepy smelly guy giving him a hug in the street. He tries to make it look like people are bigots and dislike him because he is foreign or gay, but they really are just reacting to the fact that he is creepy and obscene and invading their personal space.
- pewpewarrows, on 07/10/2009, -0/+6Bruno is as much about homosexuals as Borat was about Kazakhstan. The point wasn't to help or hurt the gay movement, it was to take a ridiculous character and place him in real life situations with people to show how insane prejudices are towards anyone "different."
It's a humorous two hour tirade and mockery of modern society. Bruno just happens to be the character he chose to do it with this go around. - kingmanic, on 07/10/2009, -0/+6He's engaged to Isla Fisher. Even if he was gay she'd change his mind/biological compulsion.
- ohplease, on 07/10/2009, -1/+7
The question is, what has Transformers the movie done for the robot rights movement? It's an equally retarded question. - merreborn, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5See, if you'd married a man, you wouldn't have to worry about crap like that.
- dleas, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5I don't think he honestly cares....he didn't make the movie to advance or block the progress of homosexuality.
- Terasiel, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6Anyone else wondering how a movie satirizing the "gay European" for the sake of seeing people's reactions and otherwise having fun is somehow suppose to stand as a representation of the gay community.
It's a comedy movie for the sake of laughing at purposefully unusual social behavior based on an obvious caricature of a specific group within society. - AraleNorimaki, on 07/10/2009, -2/+7Vassup! Being gay is the new coolest thing, so that's why I've come to the gayest part of America - Alabama!
- RuledBySecrecy, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5Does it have to help or hurt?
- unclefire, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6"Only gay character" -- is there some "rule" that there needs to be multiple gay characters in a given summer?
The guy is a characture and is SUPPOSED to be obnoxious. - draggy73, on 07/10/2009, -0/+5So hypothetically according to you (Pastor) I can admire a mans penis in the shower but the moment I put it in my mouth some sort of line has been crossed?
- Vindexus, on 07/10/2009, -3/+8I thought gays came from France, not Africa.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4BigMan: A bunch of those situations have happened to me.
and my partner.
and neither of us are obviously gay. (yes, I know my name on digg is ragingflamerboy, but I like being a pyro in TFC. Eat my ass.) - BigManOnCampus, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5No. He exposes human shock at situations that almost *never* occur. Those reactions are not real simply because those situations do not happen.
Not saying bigotry doesn't exist, but that most people who are minorities are conscious of the reactions they may get, and do not act like madmen to draw attention to their difference - Dipindots, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5I really dislike the flamboyant ones. But then again, I really hate extreme valley girls as well...
- ahawks, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4Haven't seen it, not gonna. Looks obnoxious and horrible.
Does a movie based on negative stereotypes help social progress?
What about all the "black" movies out there... focused on fat suits and fried chicken, and the wayans brothers. Do those help racial equality? Not so much. - busybrain, on 07/10/2009, -2/+6Actually, he exposes just how stupid and ignorant people are when approached by someone that doesn't fit the mold.
Can't wait to see it. - Peach3s, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3ohh balls no!
- smartnerd666, on 07/10/2009, -8/+11Has Sacha Baron Cohen ever helped anybody?
- ehaugan, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3How many articles have to hit the front page before we stop asking if Bruno is hurting or helping gays?
- mikeazorin, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3You know, it does already say your name next to the comment.
- Jesse, on 07/10/2009, -2/+5Anecdotal evidence is awesome!
- Hetman, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4No I obviously do not know you but from your posts you just do not seem like the type of person to go to a midnight screening of bruno. But hey maybe I am wrong.
- EvilJelloMan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4Well said!
- PsychoPNut, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3go back to Africa. lol
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2agreed.
any fag actually 'offended' is retarded. - merreborn, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I think you could argue that Borat was about making Americans think about the way we treat foreigners/people of different races.
And it may have succeeded, in some small way. - mdude85, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Bury the title like my last season Prada shoes! Bruno is a "HERO"? Icht don't think so!!!
- thejackyl, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3You do realize you're only supposed to capitalize the first letter in a sentence, right? Not every word? Just checking.
- damnshoes, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2*flexes*
- thejackyl, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Only himself, as far as I can tell. I think he's kind of a dick, honestly.
- sooperdooper, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Is it wrong that I also think he's hot when he IS "fagged out?"
