- celticeric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It's directed by Paul Greengrass, which I find encouraging. Bloody Sunday was a pull-no-punches look at the 1972 massacre of civil rights marchers in Northern Ireland, and he's also working on the upcoming Watchmen movie. So he's not your average Hollywood hack.
- 87rounds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Those hollywood people really like money. They should show that movie for free on TV (without commercial interruption) in tribute to those who gave their lives to protect other people.
- Farker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I wonder if they will show it to a target audience and then change the ending to a happy one?
- AdverseEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8This is living proof that ten minutes after 9/11, movie producers were on their phones.
- bitweever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Evidently, some people feel the need to resort to conspiracy theories in order to get what actually happened to jive with their version of reality... This and the other conspiracy post have been a real eye-opener for me, I didn't realize there were so many people out there that needed this crutch.
Get over it people, Oswald killed Kennedy, and 9/11 was performed by Muslim extremists, not orchestrated by Bush. - adababoom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hollywood has no apperent Conscience
- realfinkployd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"question.....since when do cellphones work that high up? they don't."
They do. Cell phone companies don't like it because they tend to jump towers much faster than land based cell phones, and the airlines don't like it because they claim it screws with the plane (yet the MASSIVE radio and radar bombardment coming out of the airport does not seem to cause any problems), but cell phones certainly do work from the air.
Or are you claiming that the 911 center faked phone calls, got their employees to go along with it while family members came out and lied that their loved ones called them?
As for the question of whether or not the plane was shot down? We will probably never know. The crash scene was kept under pretty high security, the 911 tapes have been confiscated by the FBI, and the flight data recorder has been kept secret. I don't know one way or the other, but I'm willing to bet they would not want to admit to shooting it down, especially if they later found out that there was a passenger rebellion going on. On the other hand, our current administration is so obsessed over keeping every little think secret from the public that they have created a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. - Kloser331, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"And why not make a movie about either of the planes that hit the WTC towers? I mean, it'd be more entertaining watching humanity at its most pathetic, unwilling to retaliate against terrorists with likely nothing more than box cutters."
If you would have known that they were flying those planes into buildings, you should go straight to Washington, DC and tell the President that you need to be placed at the head of the CIA. That had never been done before. Most people who work in establishments that have a chance of being robbed are trained to cooperate and the people will leave. Granted, thiefs are very different than terrorists, but nevertheless, the people on these planes had no idea what the terrorists were planning for that day.
I think calling the innocent victims on the planes "humanity at its most pathetic" is one of the most heartless, cruel things I've ever heard. I would have to question your humanity for making such a comment. Truly, I think you are completely devoid of compassion to make such a statement. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't understand why people would get offended over this. No one batted an eye when two seconds after 9/11 no talent hack musicians were writing songs left and right about 9/11, so why is a movie any different? It doesn't change what happened, it doesn't hurt it, it probably doesn't help it either. its a movie.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@livesunkept: "Just a comment.... I also think it should be shown for free... or at the very least a discount. Or even any "profit" made from this movie (money beyond the production cost) should be dedicated to some sort of "fund" or "tribute""
Why don't you donate a years worth of your salary, since you don't seem to value the need for others to make money. Nobody is impressed with generosity in spending other people's money. And nobody is impressed with the tired, transparent attempt to bolster one's own ego with a false sense of manganimity and kindness that such a statement illustrates.
Likewise, nobody is impressed with this pathetic "censorship by emotional outrage" that people of weak moral and intellectual character are decrying this movie to be "too soon" or innapropriate.
When is it not too soon? Who decides this? Too soon to talk about, write about, make movies about...
The most disturbing thing about 9/11 was and continues to be the infantile, emotional, mssguided and innapropriate reaction by the masses as well as the government.
The movie might suck, or it might be great. Personally I don't give a damn. - FatMagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3cracell: Cell phones easily work in planes... most planes fly around 10 to 30 thousand feet up.. which is roughly 2 to 6 miles in the sky. most of our cell phones work with cell towers that are more than 6 miles away.
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>> The incredible connections between the Bush family and the airport security for one.

- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Its amazing how alot of people are yelling fowl about a film that if you read Flight 93's website was "Made with the full support of the families of those on board" If anything their voices are the ones that matter. We should be listening to their opinions and the ones directly affected. Yes I know we were all affected by this tragedy but in all reality 5 years later who's the ones who come home from work everyday to sit at the dinner table alone with an empty chair that was once filled by a husband or a wife or brother or a sister?
- ReinMasamuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@cracell
They didn't use Cellphones anyway. They used the onboard phones which are generally satellite phones.
Though Cellphones can work up there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Regarding the passengers supposedly be unable to make phone calls from their cellular phones during the flight...
The supposed statistic that there is a .06% chance that your phone call will go through from a flight is derived in regards to normal altitude. This flight began flying at a significantly lower altitude immediately after the cockpit was raided.
As far as the plane being shot down by the U.S. Military goes...I do not dismiss this possibility. This could possibly be the only aspect of the movie that I would find mildly offensive as it would be broadcasting false details of the event. During the last phone call placed by a passenger on the plane there was evidently talk of an explosion and/or white smoke billowing from the plane. This detail of the phone call was claimed to have been non-existent by the passenger's family, but who is to say that they weren't persuaded to claim such a stance?
@ kevinski...
I agree with Klosser331. Your statement was quite possibly the most ignorant thing I have ever heard in my life. I'd love to see what you would do in the situation that those passengers were in. I bet you would have fought off the five hijackers with your bare hands and landed the plane safely...Give me a break. - Weasek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I live 1.5 miles from where flight 93 went down. The only comment I have about 911 is...A total cover up.
- synthesist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I dont want a movie made of this, simply because hollywood will overdramatise a LOT and many, many people will take that as the truth. If a film has to be made, it needs to be completely factual and it needs to remain true to the story.
- Rounin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I guess Saving Private Ryan was in poor taste too.
- IchiroBoston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still have a hard time with this, but I think Americans need to be reminded what happened and how we cannot let this happen again. 9-11 was small compared to what can happen. And yes I grew up in NY, worked blocks away from the WTC...etc
I never want to see this happen again.
DIGG - archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People are just too damn sensitive.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Flight 93 intends to dignify the memory of those on that flight, the men and women whose sacrifice remains one of the most heroic legacies of the incomprehensible tragedies that unfolded on that autumn morning."
That's what it says of the movie's official site. With something so sensitive and relatively fresh as 9/11, I'm sure the people responsible for the movie are going to be careful not to over exaggerate or dramatize the event.
Then again, it is Hollywood. They'll probably try to convince us that President Bush flew the plane and jumped out at the last minute... *sigh* - DaRanged, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too early? Dunno. Controversial? Yes (good for sales obviously) Bad taste? Probably (even better for sales/shock value).
Hollywood must be rubbing their hands with glee at the potential sequels and merchandising that will come:
1. Flight 93
2. The Twin Towers (not to be confused with the LOTR - The Two Towers! - remember the fiasco?)
3. Breaking of Terror - The War on Taliban - The Search for Bin Laden
4. A Dune To Far - The War on Iraq - Weapons of Mass Destruction or not...
and to come:
5. Iran or Syria or Bust!
6. The Korea under fire.
7. The Day After - oh hold on, thats already been done!
and even a film 0: The Gulf War prequel!
Dont forget the Extended DVD Directors Cut with alternative ending for Flight 93 where they do actually shoot down the plane, and for the Two Towers where they actually replace 2 hours of the terrorist activities with 20 minutes of how 'someone' rigged the TT for demolition, and someone pressing the button after the buildings had been hit by the planes to fall straight down with minimal collateral damage to other buildings.
Film 3 could have some great outtakes of them just not finding Bin Laden, and 4 could be great when they realise they have Saddam Hussein's double and there are no WoMD!
Im not even going to elaborate on merchandising...
... and by the way... this is fiction, and Im being silly so dont take offense because I dont like it anymore than you do, but goes to show if I can think of it, there are people writing this down in Hollywood!

That's a really good point. The only thing I would say is that music tends to be more therapeutic than hollywood's portrayal of this event. The music had a positive message that helped articulate some of the overwhelming feelings people had after this tragedy.
The fear I have over this movie is whether or not they will try to turn this into a Die Hard movie or truly reverence the passengers who knowingly gave their lives to bring this plane down before it hit who knows what.
Because we've seen Hollywood's treatment of other true stories, we have to ask, is it too soon to turn this into entertainment? Will they give any money to the families of the victims?
By the way, no digg until I know what they're doing here. - automatonbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hollywood has made tons of movies involving tons of tragedies around the world, and made lots of money off it. I agree, It is just a movie!
Also, the concept of making money over tragedies...wow that has never happened before.
The Hollywood "people" don't seem to be the only ones using 9/11 as a way to make money. Just look at our own government.
Does not surprise me one bit. - lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I looked this movie up on IMDB to see if there are any “big name” actors in this. I was amazed to see that there aren’t. In fact, I haven’t heard of one person on the entire cast. Though I do think this movie is too early, I am pleased that they chose to go with relatively unknown names...B/C no person on that plane deserves to be overshadowed by a big-name hollywood actor.
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They "hate us because of our freedom"? What a crock. I’ll tell you who really hates freedom: anyone who uses and advocates the use of restraint and coercion. In other words, anyone, regardless of their "nationality" and, or religious beliefs, who refuses to interact with you on a voluntary basis hates freedom.
Let those smirking politicians spin that. - JAWS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@databyss, excellent popular mechanic's link. i encourage everybody to read it. I have to agree I had some minor doubts about the pentagon hit but the PM article neatly dismisses them.
A good read for all the skeptics.
I'll post so you don't have to scroll up to find databyss's link:
http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/defense/1227842.html - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Honestly, this could be good or bad -- though I'll bet it's just TV crap in the end -- and I'd like to think that recent events are fair game for movies. But I'll bet this will tell a very predictable story that we all know about; it will be very difficult to use these events for anything but flag-waving for a generation.
I don't subscribe to the conventional paranoid accounts of conspiracies and so on, because nobody's smart enough to be master conspirators like this. (If the Bush administration was masterful enough to pull off a huge "Reichstag Fire" kind of production like 9/11, don't you think Iraq would be going a little better?) I do think they lowered our defenses so they could "take the offensive" when the inevitable happened. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's about 1 second of handycam footage of the interior of a plane in the whole damn trailer. I'd say, yeah, it was probably made far too early! :D
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>> You know, I find it rather hard to believe that everyone on that flight "united" and overthrew the hijackers. If anything, it was likely a very small group of people, with everyone else sitting around bawling. And why not make a movie about either of the planes that hit the WTC towers? I mean, it'd be more entertaining watching humanity at its most pathetic, unwilling to retaliate against terrorists with likely nothing more than box cutters.
They didn't. Did you watch the trailer? 40 people did it. That isn't the whole plane. You know...a lot of these conspiracy theories wouldn't get started if people would check some basic facts.
>> I find it even more curious that the terroist would not barricade themselves in the cockpit.
Again, they did...the passengers busted the door down.
For all of you saying, "its too early". What isn't too early for you? If it was shown in 10 years, the memory would still be fresh on your mind and you'd still complain. Face it...there is no such thing as it being "too early". There's not 15 year limit rule or anything like that. I don't see why some of you would avoid wanting to see what happened...and if you do, don't watch the movie.
Heck, I object to some really really gory movies, but I don't go boycotting them, I just don't watch them. Its that simple. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>>> I can see it now....9/11 Flight 93 action figures and airplanes to go with them. Collector cards.....9/11 Flight 93 super sales at best buy, target, walmart, and even circuit city. I can't wait for it!!!!
Exaggerate a bit, eh?
>>> This is the most ***** up idea for a movie I've ever seen. I can't believe they got actors to play the part.....
Right, because we should never make movies about historical things because they are too recent for some. Should Jarhead have been made? - kongslide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I watched the Discovery movie about this and it was very moving, they had interviews with the families and they talked about the memorial, it was well done. I just hope Hollywood doesn't make it into trash.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who has the link to the short set to Radiohead music of a slow motion fall from the tower? That one really moved me.
- JDanz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1best to just wait and see...
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And again, just because the hijackers claimed there was a bomb on board (they also claimed that they were going to get their demands met, ie, ransom), doesn't mean there was one.
Just because there were 40 people on board doesn't mean every single one helped with the attack. Seriously, some of you just need to use some basic logic. - fauxtank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's no way a movie could not be made about this, are you kidding me? It's just so juicy. There's so much drama and tension. As much, or more, than half of the fictional films Hollywood makes each year.
As for the conspiracy theorists, there's a reason why nobody is exploring the F-16 thing, and why nobody seems interested in investigating further. We know what happened, and that pilot was not involved. Trust me when I say that a bunch of crazy people on the internet with ideas about controlled demolitions being set off in the WTC does not register on anyone's radar, because it's an absolutely ludicrous proposition.
It's like dealing with religious fundamentalists. I don't avoid arguments with them because they'd win, I avoid arguments with them because their stance is not even strong enough to merit arguing against. So if you're getting frustrated because the media and government doesn't care about the "truth", it's because they think you're just a bunch of gullible chumps on the internet who aren't worth their time. If there were any validity whatsoever to your stance, someone important would pay attention to you.
Anyone?
But no, really, maybe F-16's shot it down. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Besides, which one of you nuts tried to say that the plane departing 40 minutes late was a good reason to be suspicious?
"The aircraft was scheduled to depart at 8:00, but did not lift off until 8:47 due to routine traffic. Had the flight departed on time, it would likely have been hijacked around the same time as the other flights, and there is little chance the passengers would have had time to organize a revolt."
So I guess the gov held the flight back because they really felt blowing one of the planes out of the sky. - Kloser331, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I swear I see a guy who looks like George Sr. every time I go through McCarran in Vegas. He always looks through the underwear in my suitcase with a CIA trained eye.
Barbara works at the Cinna-bon (sp?) in the Phoenix Airport. And I'm SURE that Jeb moonlights at O'Hare. - iKato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dunno, I'm more interested in Oliver Stone's 9/11 film. I'm more interested in that simply because it's a story that's less known... and it's Oliver Stone.

- conto1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope everyone downloads this movie
- number8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please actually watch the trailer first before you make the comments. I was really skeptical of the movie before watching it, but after I did I actually find the film to be very appropriate and inspirational.
First of all the movie is called "Flight 93" and it is about the passengers overcoming the hijackers and they are portrayed as heroes. It is NOT really about 9/11 (which is why the topic title is very misleading), even though it does remind us of the more tragic events that day. Still this film probably highlights one of the relatively brighter spots of that tragedy. I do agree that the potential of this film being exploitative is high and i really hope the direct knows what he's doing.
So is it too soon? The public will decide. If you are indeed offended then don't pay money to see it. The movie would bomb and the studios would lose money, it's that simple. -
