- theviceroy, on 12/30/2008, -0/+179I don't know anything about his reviews but he certainly has a face I want to punch.
- darlingt, on 12/31/2008, -1/+111First thought: "Who the hell is Ben Lyons?"
- vidgms, on 12/31/2008, -1/+47Who the ***** is this guy?
He seems like the guy on YouTube that has like 10,000 subscribers and 2,000,000 total video views and calls himself a celebrity. - Nekura20x6, on 12/30/2008, -3/+31He helped to burn down the house that Siskel and Ebert built. In Chicago, that is practically sacrilege.
- AndyStitzer, on 12/30/2008, -0/+28That ugly chick really does look annoying
- techweenie, on 12/31/2008, -0/+25He looks and sounds like someone the network execs thought would "appeal to the MySpace Generation."
- Autrix, on 12/31/2008, -3/+22I've only seen the thumbnail of his face but I can say yes, yes he is.
Ugh, I want to punch him in the face already. - shutaro, on 12/30/2008, -0/+18Yes.
- DouglasQ, on 12/31/2008, -0/+11What the hell does 'meat and potatoes' good looks mean?
- marceline407, on 12/31/2008, -0/+10It stinks!
- newbill123, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9http://www.rottentomatoes.com/author/author-13204/
He agrees with the Tomatometer 67% of the time. I agree with most of his pans, but he seems to give the benefit of the doubt to many movies I don't think really deserve it. - Ajajadude, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9From the looks of his jaw, someone already beat you to it.
- crashingstar, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9I waited on this guy at my restaurant this past summer.
He is, in fact, a massive douche. - PHJames88, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9I've never heard of him and didn't even read the article, but from the beginning of the article description to "E! Entertainment Network" makes me believe he's a huge douche bag.
The thumbnail just solidifies that assumption. - FurryToaster, on 12/31/2008, -0/+8After reading this comment, I realized that I should be a little more specific. No, I wasn't talking about my penis.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+7I'm more angry at the positive review for Disaster Movie.
- victoryroadrage, on 12/31/2008, -3/+9Well, he does like GoldenEye for the N64. He can't be all bad, right?
- Spanq, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6This show is nothing without Siskel and Ebert. It was somewhat decent with Roeper, but with Ebert gone, it needs to be put to bed.
- northwatuppa, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6Ummmm. It doesn't actually sound like that's what he did.. If you read the article.
- jmreid, on 12/31/2008, -0/+6It means his mother thinks he's good looking.
- heystellah, on 12/31/2008, -1/+6He said that "I Am Legend" was one of the best films ever made . . . ever. That's reason enough.
- lowtolerance, on 12/31/2008, -0/+5Ha...you watch E!
- STBAT25, on 12/31/2008, -0/+5I would like to know how many movies this d-bag has seen in his life. I've watched At the Movies 3 times since the new guys took over and I'll I can say is, wow. These guys completely ***** up a decent movie review show. Gene Siskel must be spinning in his grave.
- elfuego, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4If he uses it as justification for saying GoldenEye is better than all the Connery Bond movies as well as Casino Royale? Yes, he is all bad... at least as a critic of film.
- Syric, on 12/31/2008, -0/+4Now, I believe that a movie critic doesn't necessarily need to have good taste. Your favorite movie could be White Chicks and you could still be a good critic; you just have to be a good objective writer and be knowledgeable about movies and film-making in general. I don't care about this guy's taste, but I do think he's a pretty bad movie critic. He doesn't help me decide whether or not I would like a movie, because his reviews don't have much substance to them.
- rudyrudiger84, on 12/31/2008, -1/+5i could not believe when i clicked on "at the movies" and it was that gay dude from E! telling me how marley and me and that stupid new adam sandler movie were both movies that one should go "see it" are u ***** kidding me, i havent seen either, and it will stay that way. The other guys seems to be a nearly average critic at best. but lyons really is a joke
- cjschmidt, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3Why would you make a movie review TV show to target the "just hit rottentomatoes" crowd to begin with? On top of that, why would you gut a serious show that has become an institution among older film fanatics?
I didn't always agree with Siskel/Ebert/Ropert/that other guy who filled in for Ebert, but I always enjoyed their thoughtful take on each weeks releases, as well as their coverage of cataloge DVDs and indie films. It's a damn shame those asshats at Disney pulled this crap. - MrAsparagus, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3A *****.
- soupnumber5, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3HA! Awesome quote. I was thinking the same thing. Now I want to hear a review so I got more a reason to punch him in the face.
- frieddonuts, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3Here you go lazy-ass.
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-ly ... - jmreid, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3Ya, really... what's wrong with his face? He looks like Stretch Armstrong.
- bubba9999, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3I think a little. The problem now is that Hollywood has been releasing 80% crap for the last 10 years and using marketing and cute commercials to try to get a big first weekend payoff to fund the garbage they're producing. There's a reason why all these movies are hitting it big on opening weekend and sliding into obscurity afterwards - word gets out from the suckers who saw it during opening weekend and less people will take the bait.
Critics and their reviews, if you trust them, can help weed out that crap before you waste your $12 on garbage. Composite review scores like Rotten Tomatoes can be even more useful for this.
It's still possible to miss something that you'd otherwise enjoy, but that's what Netflix is for. - MattL920, on 12/31/2008, -1/+4I just think that after the last 8 years we're not in the mood to tolerate some completely unqualified jackass who got into a powerful position because it was once occupied by his father.
- bubba9999, on 12/31/2008, -0/+3Yeah you can. I thought GoldenEye was in the lower 50% of the Bond franchise.
- jedinate, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2I have nothing against Lyons himself, but I've watched the new "At the Movies" and it seems like it went from a high budget show with 2 respected reviewers to some show 2 ex-frat guys film on a $2 set.
- Twenty, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2There's a line between art and mass-produced horse ***** pretending to be art for the money. Very few movies are art these days.
- jakeoooh, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2For whatever it's worth, I worked with this kid when we were both interns at the William Morris Agency. This was back in the summer of 2000, and I think he had just finished his senior year in high school. He was a dick back then too, and annoyed the ***** out everyone that worked there. I'm so excited to hear that little has changed in that regard.
- doublefelix, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2People resent the nepotism. There are thousands of more talented critics posting in blogs that would love to have an opportunity like that fall into their lap.
- TruthKid, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2I am glad that you clarified this
- FurryToaster, on 12/31/2008, -1/+3I have a thumb up for this guy - oh wait, that's not my thumb.
- trollick, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2No. I personally have never heard of him.
- robdiggity, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2"With his meat-and-potatoes good looks, frat-boy bonhomie and straight-down-the-pike delivery -- more reminiscent of a "SportsCenter" commentator than an erudite cultural arbiter -- Lyons is certainly not your father's movie reviewer."
Yes. Because my father isn't gayer than a leather piƱata. - robdiggity, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2Second thought: "Who the hell gives a damn?"
- tmyprod, on 12/31/2008, -1/+3True, but who doesn't like GoldenEye?
- bubba9999, on 12/31/2008, -2/+4Because Home Alone was a stupid movie. Which doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Stupid has its place in this world.
- PopcornDave, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2His reviews are like mayonnaise they're so generic and usually sound like they've been paid for. His partner isn't much better. There's no depth to either of them.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2I thought he was Dane Cook from the pic
- bubba9999, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2Conform or be cast out!
- dinuguan, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2Oh Jon Lovitz.
