- ipaul08, on 04/30/2008, -1/+30duude... 94% rotten tomatoes..
- Zandarrr, on 04/30/2008, -1/+28Instead they are remade. Example: The Hulk.
- chrissku, on 04/30/2008, -6/+30Cool. Why do we need to know this now? Let's see if the first one is good first.
I'm sure Ben Affleck had ideas for Gigli part 2 when the first one wrapped up filming too. See where I'm going with this? - gannondork, on 04/30/2008, -2/+21Well he'd better hope that it opens well because movies that tank don't get sequels.
- stateofmind, on 04/30/2008, -1/+17Doesn't Iron Man have a drinking problem? I think exploring that, if of course handled well; could be quite interesting. Also given Robert Downey's first hand experience with substance abuse, he could add more depth to the acting.
- scallon, on 04/30/2008, -1/+12Ok, so Spiderman tried it. Xmen tried it. The Hulk, etc. However, those movies didn't have actors with as seriously ***** up pasts as Downey has. The man has been in and out of Rehab more times then I care to think about. He was a full blown alcoholic, a coke addict, and he did heroin and smoked crack. If there is one actor on earth who I think could accurately portray a troubled superhero, it's Downey.
- jsyrus, on 04/30/2008, -1/+11If they adapt the "Demon in a bottle" storyline for the sequel, then it will be an amazing movie. Downey could definitely play a believable drunk.
- mizatt, on 04/30/2008, -0/+8What about Batman? The Batman series is largely focused on his past and his inner demons (that's pretty much the theme of it, in fact) and it's one of the most popular and well-received characters. That may not be the right way for Iron Man to go but "comic book movies need to stay focused on ass-kicking" is much too broad a statement, in my own opinion.
I enjoy it when they give the characters some depth and personality. That said, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. I think the recent Batman movies are an example of a great way to create a deep character. Whereas I think Spiderman did an awful job with character development... by the end of the third movie, the main character was almost a joke.
I guess it depends upon the skill of the writers and directors. Lets watch the first movie before we all decide what the character should be going into the future. - Appox, on 04/30/2008, -6/+14I hate it when they try to explore the superhero's feelings etc. Stories in Hollywood action movies are always terrible.
- hipnerd, on 04/30/2008, -1/+8The first movies in a series have the obligation to tell the origin story and explain who these characters are. The second movie does not have to spend time explaining who the principal characters are and what their relationships are, so it can jump right in to the action. Generally, that makes for a more fun ride, although you can certainly think of exceptions: (Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc.)
- goomba323, on 05/01/2008, -0/+60% chance this movie tanks.
- jgtg32a, on 04/30/2008, -0/+6... by not have to act?
- jgtg32a, on 04/30/2008, -0/+6Yeah I would watch that
- Shiftgood, on 04/30/2008, -2/+7yeah... well harold & kumar got a 55% and i lauged my balls off at that movie. go figure.
- binaryloop, on 04/30/2008, -2/+7Surgeon: Has there been a rise in his fluid intake? SWEET JESUS! His sodium levels are through the roof!
Surgery Nurse: I don't get it. He's eight years old and he smells like Robert Downey Jr. - Jesse, on 04/30/2008, -1/+6Buried for reviewing a movie from its trailer
- phrenzy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4No, you express a desire to have lower quality crap movies. People like you are the reason we get crap like "ID4
- B3000, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4I agree with phrenzy. I can't believe all you douche bags actually asking for movies to be STUPIDER and have LESS character.
- phrenzy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4You = Why great hero movies like "Superman The Movie" never get made anymore and instead we get "Fantastic Four"
- VPurpmalkV, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4In the comics that story arc was called "Demon In A Bottle". And if I remember correctly Robert Downey Junior and the Director stated that if they did a sequel they would be basing it off of that story arc.
- B3000, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5***** you. That is exactly the reason summer movies aren't good any more. In the old days, things like character and theme used to matter, even in movies about blowing ***** up. Not any more, and now they are shallow, plasticine spectacle, with no brain power or substance. And they suck balls. I have hope for a few of this summers crop, but not much. The last ten years have grown worse and worse... thanks to douche-bags like you who actually want to be fed idiotic, dumbed down swill. Why in the ***** would you ask for "superficial emotion" over real emotion? Seriously, why?
- JointheArmy, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4The reviews for Gigli were "Finally Ben and Jen get some privacy."
- Scopitone, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3There's always things out there that need to be super punched!
- inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Superhero movies are one of the few areas in which I approve of sequels, mainly because the first movie almost always just focuses on the origin story, which means you're pretty much guaranteed to have a lot of ground to cover in the sequel while avoiding the feeling that it's a rehash.
- moofer, on 04/30/2008, -4/+7Actually, comic book movies need to stay focused on ass-kicking, in my opinion. Who wants to watch a guy in body armor struggle with his inner demons? Sounds pretty damned boring to me. Every comic-book-brought-to-life movie has tried this and failed. Then, after one or two boring attempts at being artsy, they get back to their roots and make their fans happy again.
When will they learn that people don't read comics to hear about love stories and inner turmoil. It's all about servin' up the hurt on the bad guys, saving the girl, and returning the world to order through heroic actions and an explosion or two... - SanTe, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3"Wow, that movie hasn't even sucked for a whole week yet and a sequel already."
Have you seen it? I saw a preview screening of "Iron Man" last night and I thought it ***** ruled. One of the best superhero movies ever in my opinion. The audience actually cheered on several occasions. I can't remember the last time I saw that happen in a movie theater. The movie is also very funny (as in "sharp as a tack," not "campy"). - Jesse, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4"The burden his superhero responsibilities impose" shows why RD Jr. should stick to acting and leave the writing to professionals. That's such a derivative plot for sequels in an already derivative genre, it begs the question: When is this NOT the storyline for these kind of films?
- chesscat, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3I wonder if he can fit a coke straw through his iron mask.
- robthom, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3It would win an oscar for best screenplay.
- phrenzy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Exactly right. I suppose you al would call "First Blood", "Superman The Movie" and "Die Hard" "emo" because it focuses too much on the humanity of the characters. Compared to today's "action" movies, those movies are high art. BTW - Just got back from seeing Iron Man, and they really didn't go overboard with the "troubled soul" part of RDJ. They made him more of a cynical self-serving kind of guy who is trying to alleviate his guilt.
- sockpuppets, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2It'll be like my life then, without the suit.
- Darksoul, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Yeah this movie won't tank I have no doubt about that. The people that are bitching "not enough action" its the first movie in a series of movies get over it it will have plenty of action and story if i wanted all action I would go watch an old Arnold.S movie. (yeah I was to lazy to spell his last name)
- B3000, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Dude, I think you linked to the wrong video. That was some song about Ewoks. Could you try posting the url again? I really want to see this footage you are talking about. Iron Man dies? That's crazy!
- B3000, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Haven't you seen the trailer? Tthe mask opens up.
- B3000, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2To say something without a shadow of a doubt requires making a statement - you asked a question. One cannot ask an open ended question beyond a shadow of a doubt because there is no foregone conclusion in which to place that doubt.
You could have said "I can safely say without a shadow of a doubt in my mind......no one cares.", but then, that would've been just as idiotic. - Rido777, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Speaking of sequels...Iron Man just might be paving the way for other B-List Superheroes!
http://www.maxim.com/Superbs/articles/22341.aspx?s ... - leonardutah, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2I'd watch that.
- SanTe, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2If there is any justice it will do very well, because it's an awesome flick. (Saw an early screening last night.)
- vainbrian, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1actually, theres a scene in the movie where James Rupert Rhodes glances at 2nd prototype(silver) of the ironman suite and said "Maybe next time" so it may come true. Actually, the whole movie is one big set-up for the sequel. SHIELD was introduced, Mandarin was hinted etc.
- DJafrodijiak, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1..baseketball?
- Spire3660, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1It seems it would be pretty standard for an actor to plan for sequels when they pick up the superhero mantle.
- rodrigo74, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1"he'd like to explore the burden his superhero responsibilities impose."
now _that_ is original!!
/sarcasm - inactive, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Once he gets his big payday, how long will it take for him to end up all over the media in some drugged/drunken stupor?
- SteveIsTheDude, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Sorry, here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8bZ3zf_4l0&feature ...
- cheekybastard, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Duude.... whatya smokin' man? That's 94% tomatoes, its a good thing. Check out the tomatometer again, in the fine print 37/40 good reviews. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/iron_man/
- B3000, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, the reason he's been clean and sober for the last few years is because he couldn't afford drugs. Makes sense.
- carpeclunes, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1"Wanted" is coming out. That is all about supervillians. But I don't think it will be very good.
- TVarmy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I just saw Awesome-O for the first time, so I can just imagine Robert Downy Jr. spouting off ideas like Cartman.
- fcbfan, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I just saw the movie (opening day in Australia) and it rocks! RDJ is the coolest actor right now right up there with C. Bale
- Derrelicte, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I stayed until the very end of the credits and all that happened was the theatre turned on its lights...
