Looking back, the only ones really worth the money ... were "Batman Begins" and "Iron Man".
Hollywood, can you connect the dots?
Give us great actors; three-dimensional guys with balls and street cred (Bale/Downey).
Give us a great story and a great script, give us dialog that doesn't insult our geeky brains.
Top it all with great special FX, a great score and an ensemble of interesting enemies/love interests/friends/butlers.
And we will gladly give you our money. Several times; for movie tickets, DVDs, games and OST CDs.
It's that easy.- mysedai, on 05/06/2008, -2/+2To be fair, the FX needed to make a superhero movie even vaguely believable didn't exist until recently.
Also, this is the decade of the alpha-geek. - Gizza, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3Come on, give some credit to the first 2 Superman movies and the Tim Burton Batmans.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I know that the original Superman movie has a special place in most geeks' hearts, but the last time I enjoyed this, I was ten years old. Just like the remake by Singer (and "Superman Returns" is nothing more), I think it's an incredibly campy, reactionist portrait of the ultimate boyscout. No irony, no subtlety, just Mr. World Police in all his gloriousness.
As for Burton's Batman - yeah. Jack Nicholson redefined "Villain" in that one (as Michelle Pfeiffer redefined "catsuit"). Apart form that, today I feel it hasn't aged well. Just my $0.02. :)

- AlwaysAwake, on 05/05/2008, -80/+18Escapism is very profitable in "hard times". Hollywood built its empire during the "Great Depression" beginning in 1929. The alcohol beezness did very well too, especially because being illegal at first, made it more naughty, "fun". Given what's happening again, entertainment, alcohol, and drugs are the growth industries for investment. Bored with all that ? Try religion, which gladly takes all currency, offering escape from "reality" at some time in the unspecified future, triggering reelentless hope to keep you locked in. Run, Run, Run Away !!

fail. - DiggsOnlyJew, on 05/05/2008, -2/+23I probably can't find an article on here without one of these comments: "We're in the Great Depression II so of course people are going to buy more [alchohol, food, entertainment] to escape the horrors of life.." I guess no one gets drunk or sees movies when times are good as well?
- RobotBuddha, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1While I agree with your comment, I have to admit I'm a bit amused to find someone with your nick jumping in to stick up for hollywood. And then another jew, me, jumping in to say "I like what he has to say on this issue!".

- JointVenture, on 05/05/2008, -10/+4Poor people suck.
- AlexanderCurtis, on 05/05/2008, -3/+12I'm tired of people acting like America is in another Great Depression. Statistically, our poorest would still be envied in less well off countries.

- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -1/+52It was my favorite so far. I was a big Hulk and Iron Man fan when I was a kid, so I may be a little less than objective. Excellent movie though.
- saleem, on 05/05/2008, -8/+2FWIW, my girl (spaaaace) friends who knew nothing about iron man really enjoyed the movie, too. I do think its the best Marvel movie as far as I can remember. Maybe thats just cuz I want to fly like iron man :o(

16 that I can think of off the top of my head all within the past 10 years.- elamr, on 05/05/2008, -37/+2and 95% garbage to mediocre (Blade & Ghost Rider were decent)
- LordVance, on 05/05/2008, -0/+21That's hilarious; you pick Ghost Rider as one of your two movies worth watching? Blade I was good, I'll give you that - but II+III were pretty awful, and Ghost Rider made me embarrassed to be a Nick Cage fan.
- goomba323, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1350% of your statement is garbage to mediocre. Ghost Rider sucked.
- Abomonog, on 05/05/2008, -5/+3I hate to argue here but that all depends on the drugs you were on when you watched Ghost Rider.
- SoulRebel23, on 05/05/2008, -3/+28Ghost Rider? That was one of the worst movies I've seen in a while. The first Spiderman movie and the X-men movies were good, though.
- SSCrow, on 05/05/2008, -17/+1Are we just not including DC comics in this?
- LordVance, on 05/05/2008, -0/+19Considering Colonel asked "I've heard it's the best Marvel superhero movie ever. Is this true?" - I would imagine not.
- Pureeviljester, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1pwned him good
- scubaman5000, on 05/05/2008, -1/+10The question specifically said Marvel so I think that's why DC was excluded from the list.

- Monarch818, on 05/05/2008, -0/+62 Punisher movies - Don't forget the Dolph Lundgren version from the 80's
- boombye, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Yeah there was also that old Captain America movie from the 80s, Howard the Duck, and Dulph Lundgren's Punisher where he fought the Yakuza...Howard the Duck is still cool though.
- Syphon8, on 05/05/2008, -0/+13 Fantastic 4 movies. There was an old one from like '90.
- boombye, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1You are correct, I remember seeing a photo for it in an old Wizard magazine, but it never went to theaters because it was so horrible and it's a pretty rare find for anyone wanting to check it out.

- FyreGoddess, on 05/05/2008, -5/+112I would even go so far as to call it the best superhero movie ever. And I'm a DC girl.
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -5/+24My son still liked batman forever better, but this was my favorite. If you stayed until the end, you got a cameo of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, teasing the Avengers movie...
Tony Stark (Robert Downey) makes an appearance in the upcoming Hulk movie, as does Nick Fury. Looks like they have big plans for the Marvel Universe...- FyreGoddess, on 05/05/2008, -1/+68Um... Batman *Forever*? No. Just no.
PLEASE tell me you mean Batman BEGINS.
But, yeah, Batman is my favorite hero bar none, and I still liked Iron Man better. (But I have high hopes for Dark Knight).- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -2/+48Sorry, got my Batman's mixed up ;-) My son would be pretty pissed if he knew I was telling people Batman Forever was his favorite!
- FyreGoddess, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Yeah, you're totally a Marvel guy ;-)
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -2/+8Yeah, gotta admit I thought they were making movies for ME. My top three comics as a kid? Daredevil, Hulk, and Iron Man ;-)
- drlha, on 05/05/2008, -2/+7Surely you were pissed off with the Daredevil movie though?
- LordVance, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3Flash > All baby
- etruscan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+7I loved the Daredevil comic when I was younger - but despised the atrocity that was the Daredevil movie... to say nothing of Elektra. Was sick this weekend so I didn't get to see Iron Man, but I'm hearing great things, so I'm looking forward to it... as Iron Man was certainly on par with Daredevil in my books.
Though my favorite comic by far was Sandman. I'm just a little nervous about a Sandman movie. - Gir53457, on 05/05/2008, -1/+12You think Daredevil was a kick to the nuts? My favorite comic book hero was Catwoman.
- freshyill, on 05/05/2008, -2/+7The Nick Fury scene was worth the wait through the credits. I hadn't heard about him appearing in The Incredible Hulk yet, but it's going to be awesome to see Marvel *finally* tying their titles together.
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2I'd tell you he is in the Hulk movie, but I would hate to "spoil" it for others...
- blackinthmiddle, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3In case anyone ran out of the theater to hit the rest rooms right after the movie was over (like me) and didn't wait until after the credits.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VpGhPCCJKcQ
- wild, on 05/05/2008, -3/+9I love when people just throw out spoilers like candy. You know, cameos are generally considered to be surprises and bits of fun not to be spoiled.
- Niightwitch, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Yes, that was a spoiler but if you dont know it's at the very end of the credits some people won't stick around to see a great scene.
- Gizza, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Do you think the cops would just look the other way if I were to hunt down and viciously murder the first guy who came up with the "scene after credits" deal. Now I have to sit through 15 ***** minutes of credits for every movie I go to, and then half the time be disappointed that there wasn't actually a scene.
- freshyill, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1By this point, anybody who cares stuck around to see it.
- trdrstv, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1I Respectfully Disagree. Though Iron Man was awesome, If you're a DC girl you should be familiar with "Batman Begins" and "Superman: The Movie"
- FyreGoddess, on 05/05/2008, -0/+10I am familiar with them. Can't stand Superman as a character (too Goody-Goody for my tastes), but I did love Batman Begins. Imagine my surprise when I wound up liking Iron Man better.
- jonathantneal, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2The surprise of liking a better movie better regardless of its franchise, it's just shocking. :)
- FyreGoddess, on 05/05/2008, -1/+68Um... Batman *Forever*? No. Just no.
- KidVicious, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Wow I left the theater saying the exact same thing.

- Blandyman, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Please stop.
Robert Downey, Jr. has fought tirelessly to kick his drug and alcohol addictions, after they caused many, MANY problems earlier in his career... not only to himself, though, but to his co-stars.
Besides, I really think Robert Downey, Jr., along with Tim Robbins, and Tom Hanks are the best male actors in Hollywood, now or ever.
But, I am a little biased (I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, my second favorite movie is Jacob's Ladder, and Tom Hanks made Forrest Gump and Castaway. COME ON!)
- Blandyman, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Please stop.
- trdrstv, on 05/05/2008, -5/+0Just as he did in the Comics, Superman paved the way for all others in movies.

- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -1/+87Both.
- ColonelTribune, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Hmm. It looks like the Colonel will have to check this one out. Thanks!
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -0/+22Definitely worth shelling out to see it on the big screen. Great job by Downey, and the visuals are VERY well done. Iron Man comes to life!
- ColonelTribune, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Hmm. It looks like the Colonel will have to check this one out. Thanks!
- IglooBurner, on 05/05/2008, -1/+28Speaking of Robert Downey Jr., and a bit off topic ... i can't wait for Tropic Thunder.
- IceJelly, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Too bad Owen Wilson would have been in the movie if he didn't try and commit suicide....
- freshyill, on 05/05/2008, -0/+36I'd say casting Robert Downey Jr. was a stroke of genius, but the man just screams "Tony Stark," so it's really more of a no-brainer.
And yeah, he was really good.- pak314, on 05/05/2008, -0/+7Apparently he was also a huge Iron Man comic fan well before the movie.
- bjs3171, on 05/05/2008, -1/+28Downey Jr is among the greatest actors of our time. He doesn't even need to speak to be good, he can just sit there, and you know what his character is thinking.
- yohnstoppable, on 05/05/2008, -0/+16RDJ kicks ass. If anyone hasn't seen "kiss kiss bang bang" you are missing out.
- Chalks777, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9Agreed. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang made me laugh harder than any other movie I've seen in a LONG time.
- sittered, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1"Homophobes never check there."
- noots, on 05/05/2008, -13/+2he owned the movie.
the film isn't THAT good, i'd give it a 7/10. Downey Jr's onscreen wit and humor make the film enjoyable and fun. But if you actually look at the story it's pretty dumb. If it wasn't for him (and some amazing special effects) this film would pull a 5/10 easily.
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -1/+87Both.
- luther70, on 05/05/2008, -10/+21I think only Spiderman 2 is better and Batman Begins if you include DC.
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3Yeah, you and my kid! Quit ganging up on me ;-)
- DrDragun, on 05/05/2008, -5/+11Batman Begins had 3rd act problems... but acts 1 and 2 were unbelievably awesome.
I found Iron Man to be similar in this sense.- LordVance, on 05/05/2008, -2/+8I have to agree with the Doc here - I loved both Batman Begins and Iron Man; however, it seems like super-hero movies as a whole tend to fall apart a tad when the real "action sequence" happens. It's watching the characters develop that's more interesting - I think Iron Man had more problems in this regard than BMB though; the fight scene was pretty "meh" compared to the awesomeness of the rest of the film.
- Hypermarkalan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Yeah. That was my only real complaint, too. The fight scene was a little boring. There was that one, good cinematic pose, when Tony jumps in the air to punch Obie, but other than that-meh. And Obie learned how to operate the armor pretty damn quick, considering that it took Tony, one of the top minds on earth, quite a while to stop slamming into walls and such.
- Lasereth, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Yep, the Iron Monger action scene at the end was my only complain with the entire movie. Was a little too generic for my tastes.

- Monarch818, on 05/05/2008, -4/+20Huh, Spiderman 2: The Love Story, is not even close to equal to Iron Man, let alone better. You need to get your head checked Luther70!
- kettlehead, on 05/05/2008, -2/+10Good god no, Iron man DESTROYS all of the Spiderman movies, and I'm a pretty big fan of the first 2. The ONLY superhero movie that stands equal to Iron Man is Batman Begins.
- NightVortez, on 05/05/2008, -6/+3Eh, if you consider V for Vendetta a superhero film it's by far my favorite.
- ffonsok, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2I don't.
- ausfahrt, on 05/05/2008, -18/+1Not the best at all but up there. All Xmen and spidey 1 and 2 trump it, but it beats out most of the others on the marvel side.
- freshyill, on 05/05/2008, -1/+14Seriously, X-Men 3?
- Hypermarkalan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Good God, X-Men 3 stank. Ratner should stick to directing Rush Hour sequels.
- bjs3171, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3Pshhhh. the Spider-Man movies were pretty good, but they all had such cheesey dialogue. This one was perfect.
- ausfahrt, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Comics are cheesy. Gotta keep some of that in it.
- freshyill, on 05/05/2008, -1/+14Seriously, X-Men 3?
- elamr, on 05/05/2008, -9/+2May have to see it again. As good or better than the first Blade.
- MrFisty, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Better than Blade? That wouldn't really take much. Don't get me wrong, I liked the creature effects but it was pretty far from a great movie.
- DoubtingThomas, on 05/05/2008, -1/+18Yep, so far the best comic book movie I have seen.
- AUGTRON, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1300?
- pell, on 05/05/2008, -5/+9I would say no, although it was good it felt like it needed to be longer due to the large build up on how he becomes ironman (which was very cool), but the climax was a bit lacking if you ask me. All in all though a very entertaining movie and I did enjoy it, but I personally didn't think it was the best one so far.
- Gogomog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I agree, the villain could have been more interesting rather than just a larger Iron Man. I'm fed up with the villain in superhero movies being vanquished in a bright flash of light, such as Hulk, Spider-Man 2, TMNT, X3, and probably others.
They did a great job with the suit through, especially flying against the F-22s.- Hypermarkalan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6Iron Man flying with the F-22s was way more exciting than the last fight. That was an excellent sequence.
- sanman, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1No prob, it just gives him more ways to kick ass in the sequel. (Sequel! Woohoo!)
I remember reading various interviews on Superman2, and they pointed out that the first movie was mainly about introducing the legend, but the second movie was intended to show him off kicking some serious ass. So I can imagine a similar performance for Iron Man 2. (Sequel!! Woohoo!!) :D

- Defuser, on 05/05/2008, -12/+5By far the best. Anyone that says Spidey2 or Batman Begins are "better" have managed to conveniently forget 90% of both of those movies. Spidey2 was just as campy and goofy as the other two, and Batman Begins was 30 minutes too long, and was nearly ruined by Katiie Holmes. Neither of those movies were bad, but Iron Man is simply better. An opinion apparently shared by a lot of other people.
- wild, on 05/05/2008, -0/+12Give the Holmes thing a rest. She didnt ruin the movie. She did a decent job that no one would have noticed if the names Bale, Oldman, Freeman, Hauer, Neeson, Watanabe and Wilkenson weren't right next to hers. It isnt that she was bad, she just didn't own every scene she was in like the rest of the cast. Its just the simple argument for fanboys who need something about the film to hate for who knows what reason.
- MCMLXXXII, on 05/05/2008, -0/+11you forgot Caine
- wild, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9Damnit..I knew there was one missing.
I suck.
- Number23, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Spiderman 2 should have been called “Aunt May 2” since she had more screen time than Spiderman.

- ats314, on 05/05/2008, -5/+18*Spoiler Alert*
I love this movie, but did anyone else find the ending a bit disappointing. I mean, not even being full power for the last fight. I understand building anticipation for the second movie, which started shooting well before this one was released, but don't the fans deserve a good conclusion to a story? Transformers did the exact same thing. Weak end fight with huge cliffhanger. Its a good way to sell tickets, but I felt unfulfilled when I left the theater.- eonblu, on 05/05/2008, -1/+14I agree. Great movie, but it seemed like they purposely left out some things to save them for the sequel. I understand they needed to properly introduce the character and all, but I really wanted there to be more ass kicking. Downey Jr was excellent, but my favorite parts were when he was fighting the terrorists. The plug for Rhodes as War Machine in the future was pretty blatant and the mention of S.H.I.E.L.D. was good to hear, so the next one already has me excited. Oh and come on, no kiss for Pepper and Tony?
- AlexanderCurtis, on 05/05/2008, -1/+10You must've missed the real ending (after the credits), because it does not disappoint. Nick Fury? Avengers? Yes.
- eonblu, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Damn! I knew I would miss something, but my friend had to leave immediately after the credits started. Youtube don't fail me now!

- goomba323, on 05/05/2008, -12/+105Once the Dark Knight comes out, you will all forget about Iron Man....you'll see. It's Summer Blockbuster season, every week a new Blockbuster comes out. Let's do a run down of the next few weeks of Summer Blockbuster mayhem (for my own personal pleasure, ***** you all):
This Friday - Speed Racer (probably will suck....if you didn't take acid or shrooms upon entering)
May 16th - Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (it will make a ***** load of money, different crowd than iron man fans, even though I enjoyed the first one)
May 23rd - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (OMG OMG OMG INDIANA JONES!! IRON WHAT??...yeah, that's when the Iron Man amnesia starts to set in)
May 30th - Sex and the City Movie (beware men, dragging your girlfriend to go see Indiana Jones with you could result in you being dragged to Sex and the City the next weekend....***** it, go sneak into 'The Strangers' while she's with her girlfriends, and hope it's as ***** up as the trailer is making it out to be.)
June 6th - You Don't Mess With Zohan (uhh....maybe this Summer Blockbuster theory is a bust?)
June 13th - The Incredible Hulk / The Happening (I, for one, am more excited for The Happening than the Hulk, but I'll probably see both and be pleasantly surprised with the Hulk and horribly disappointed with The Happening...go figure)
June 20th - Get Smart / The Love Guru (Oh boy, a washed up star in Mike Myers tries to re-energize his career as Steve Carrell's declining career gets the final death nail)
June 27th - Wall - E (will do exceptionally well because of it's association with Pixar and it's inclusion of a cute robot with such a cute name...awwwww....also Wanted comes out if you're into that type of stuff)
July 4th - Hancock (Will Smith OWNS Independence Day, so this will no doubt make lots of money, and may actually be refreshing take on super hero movies)
July 11th - Hell Boy 2 (the first one was highly underrated and the trailer for this one looks like it kicks ass, so I can see this doing very well too, as long as they promote it right)
July 18th - The Dark Knight (well, I mean, you can always go see Space Chimps or Mama Mia!!...but I wouldn't recommend it. Will break many many box office records due to die-hard Heath fans seeing it multiple times, while many others will see it multiple times simply because it kicks asssss)
July 25th - Step Brothers (but more importantly) THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE (yes. finally Mulder and Scully are back together. this will be a good week for movies as people who love Will Farrell comedies, this one actually looks decent, and if you're not into that sort of thing, which many X-File fans AREN'T I would assume, then you can go check out X-Files. win-win for the box office)
August 1st - Another Mummy Movie (ok, this will do good, but really? really? I'd rather go check out Midnight Meat Train which also comes out this weekend...no it isn't a gay porno)
August 8th - Pineapple Express (this is the movie I am most excited for because a.) I love Seth Rogen and James Franco. b.) the trailers are hilarious c.) kick ass music. d.) I smoke lots of weeeed)
August 15th - Tropic Thunder (c'mon...it's Robert Downey's Jr's year. First Iron Man, then Blackface, the man's on top of the world...and if you're a nerd you can go check out Star Wars: Clone Wars. I'll probably be checking out too because, yes, I'm a nerd.)
Nice for Robert Downey Jr. to start the Summer season off with a bang and then end it with a comedy satire. Funny how things work out.- Crosshare, on 05/05/2008, -17/+3We don't care about your opinion on the entire summer lineup.
- SteveHoltAD, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0then dont read it
- navster15, on 05/05/2008, -9/+2"August 8th - Pineapple Express ...d.) I smoke lots of weeeed)"
I couldn't have guessed... - DanteDefiance, on 05/05/2008, -1/+8Wow...you have a new fan. Everything you said is exactly how I feel about this years summer movies. Except The Happening; M. Night Shalamalla is a hack and only has two great movies: Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Everything else is laughably bad. He's the Uwe Boll of suspense movies now.
- RanIntoTheDevil, on 05/05/2008, -0/+10Yeah...I am gonna trip balls at Speed Racer.
- chiefbandit2200, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Definitely a movie that you're going to have to watch in 3D... if you catch my drift :P
- ColonelTribune, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Great list, man.
- romistrub, on 05/05/2008, -4/+2I found the trailer for Zohan hilarious! It actually made me laugh a bunch. Does that mean my sense of humour is deteriorating?
- tyywebb, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Absolutely.
- Protonz, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2You put a lot of work into that list. If you put it on your blog, you could probably get it onto the front page.
- GerbilKing, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0July 4th - ***** (Will Smith OWNS Independence Day, so this will no doubt make lots of money, and may actually be refreshing take on super hero movies)
lmao you got owned by the profanity filter. - Aeric, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Dugg for the nice list, but mostly the "***** you all" part
- tyywebb, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Dugg for "Midnight Meat Train." lolwtf?
- Crosshare, on 05/05/2008, -17/+3We don't care about your opinion on the entire summer lineup.
- MammasMilk, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6What about Dolph Lundgren's Punisher?
(said in jest, of course)- SuperWinner, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Captain America..... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103923/
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Oh god that was...something, you see his sack in it twice, as if the movei was not bad enough.
- yohnstoppable, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2I think it is the best marvel comic book movie. I'd still put batman beings over it, and sin city if we are talking all comic book movies. Although the fact so many have iron man alongside or better than all the other great comic book movies speaks volumes for how good it is. One of the best i've seen for sure
- wastelander, on 05/05/2008, -7/+4Iron Man was a total rip-off of the first season of Frisky Dingo!
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1No it was a "rip-off" from Iron-man comics, which is kinda fair, and Iron man comics have been around a touch longer then Friksy Dingo. QED
- wastelander, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I kid.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1My apologies.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1No it was a "rip-off" from Iron-man comics, which is kinda fair, and Iron man comics have been around a touch longer then Friksy Dingo. QED
- trdrstv, on 05/05/2008, -5/+0best Marvel superhero movie ?
Perhaps. I saw it twice, and loved it. Although I would need some time for everything to settle before I say "Better than X-men 2"- kettlehead, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Ew.
- fakeplasticsnow, on 05/05/2008, -3/+1Yeah, much better, but the others aren't very hard to beat. I really despised all the X-Men and Spiderman movies, except for Spiderman 1.
- gennipher, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2I LOATHE Robert Downey Jr.
.....
But I absolutely LOVED this movie, all the actors were great. Incredibly enjoyable movie hands down. I have no complaints about it. - ColonelTribune, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Thanks for the advice, all. You know, Robert Downey Jr. was really good in 'Zodiak'
- SilentRamble42, on 05/06/2008, -2/+1X2 was better, but I'd put it on level with the first two Spider-Mans
- Pureeviljester, on 05/06/2008, -2/+12nd best superhero movie. the first of course going to Unbreakable.
- goonnoodles, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Judging by your diggs, YES
- exomni, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2No, I wouldn't say that: I am definitely partial to the first two Spider-Man movies.
The first half of Iron Man is absolutely amazing, Robert Downey Jr. is awesome, but the film suffers from the typical burn-out of Marvel movies, where the quality of the film is inversely proportional to the length of time elapsed and the ending is *****. - Selenica, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0It was awesome. The S.H.I.E.L.D. references were cool.. also....
***********SPOILER***************
If you watch the teaser after the ending credits you get to see that Samuel L. Jackson is Nick Fury.. so there will definitely be more Iron Man movies :)
- ssn697, on 05/05/2008, -1/+52It was my favorite so far. I was a big Hulk and Iron Man fan when I was a kid, so I may be a little less than objective. Excellent movie though.
- mrhaines, on 05/05/2008, -4/+78Man Dan Trachtenburg is screwed!
- Lugano, on 05/05/2008, -1/+23I was thinking the same thing :) The Totally Rad Show rocks

- JDL917, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3On the latest Totally Rad Show, the guys made a bet about what they predict the top summer movies will be. Dan completely forgot about Ironman and left it out of his top ten.
- eatbeefjerky, on 05/05/2008, -4/+25I really enjoyed this movie and I'm a girl and I had never seen the comics or cartoons (I guess there were cartoons? Meh..)

- CannedMango, on 05/05/2008, -2/+30More impressively, it made over $200 million worldwide.
- FyUoCuK, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0That's a lot.
- Regbooker, on 05/05/2008, -2/+196Poor Hollywood execs. Now they will have to find another excuse rather than "blame video games" when their movies suck and fail at box office.
- victoryroadrage, on 05/05/2008, -0/+80Tony Stark made over 100 million domestic opening weekend in a cave! WITH SCRAPS!
- frepnog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Thats great, I LOL'd.
- ClevelandBrown, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1haha, brilliant
- dsmx, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2I think most people already know that crap films do rubbish at the box office already.

- loganhid, on 05/05/2008, -1/+13probably the same
- Gizza, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1and if 800 million people didnt just pirate it.
- chillypacman, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1yah, they kept saying GTA4 was going to effect Iron Man sales, this has been as obvious as it gets: One of the best games ever did not cut into the sales of a great movie.
I'm quite surprised of this myself, I really thought most people would just sit home and play GTA4... - Schmich, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Blame video games? :o You also meant piracy right?
Good movie = watch it in the theatre, crap movie = /hi2utorrents - TheCash, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I might have stayed home this weekend instead of seeing Iron Man twice, but GTA4 red ringed my 360 so what else was I going to do while I waited for the shipping box? Naw I'm just kidding, I was going to see Iron Man before my xbox gave up the ghost anyway. At least Iron Man gave me an equal if not better entertainment experience.
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Yeah, they will blaim piracy. Personlly I do see less movies in theater now, though its not becuase of downloading, its becuase my - like man others- home theater is amazing, 106" screen (projector) sitting 16 feet back is not much differant from the theater expieriance, that said, I will be seeing Iron Man tomrorrow.
- victoryroadrage, on 05/05/2008, -0/+80Tony Stark made over 100 million domestic opening weekend in a cave! WITH SCRAPS!
- KHobbits, on 05/05/2008, -2/+27It was a damn good movie, I mean the trailers looked brilliant, but the movie was better.
- PixelMagic, on 05/05/2008, -0/+8That's a rare thing, too. Trailers are usually way better than the movie is.

- Abomonog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+8Port? Hmmm. I guess that's as good as word for it as any. Even though I get the picture of some programmer reading a comic book and typing away furiously into a hex editor when you say port. Probably isn't far from the truth.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1This was as good as Spiderman 1.
At least a tie for best Marvel movie. - Punkazz189, on 05/05/2008, -1/+0X-Men was a great movie / trilogy
- hitdrumhard, on 05/05/2008, -23/+7Glad to see a superhero who has not only the balls to reveal his identity from the get-go, but an actor that convinces you that the story could not have ended any other way. Nice flick.
Oh crap, was that a spoiler?- Defuser, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1It's not really a spoiler, IMHO. Comic fans already know that Iron Man doesn't have a "secret identity" these days. (He's never had one in the Ultimates universe, and he hasn't had one since he kicked Captain America's ass in the Civil War in the mainstream Marvel continuity.) I did like the part where he's arguing with the SHIELD agent about it. "He's my bodyguard? Really? You think people will buy that?"
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Actually it is a big spoiler. Unlike almost every other superhero, Stark sometimes keeps his identity secret and sometimes announces it. It tends to go back and forth depending on the decade.
- Defuser, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1It's not really a spoiler, IMHO.

Maybe it was just the laughably corny mega-suit he built, but I think the villain in this film had absolutely no character development. Pretty impressive that Robert Downey Jr. was so good he completely upstaged Jeff Bridges.
- homelessman, on 05/05/2008, -5/+48It just goes to show you, if you make good movies, people will actually pay the money to go see it after they watch it pirated online (as i did). If you make crappy movies, then people wont waste the money to actually watch in theaters.
- SenorCardgage74, on 05/05/2008, -2/+6You make a good point.
I had a great telesync of this last thurs and I STILL waited to see it in the theater.

- scubaman5000, on 05/05/2008, -1/+14It was awesome, the acting was great, the special effects were great. I kind of wished there was a bit more action but I'm sure there's more to come in sequels. This movie did a great job in setting up the story for future movies.
- jakeh111, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3More action could of been nice but if it was going to take away from storyline development then im fine with cutting back the action.
- cadmiumpaint, on 05/05/2008, -1/+10As a comics fan i was never that into Iron Man, but the movie rocked. I'm glad marvel has a winner with this franchise and will be able to keep the rest of their properties in house instead of letting the studios rip them off (Xmen, Spiderman).

- Disco1Stu, on 05/05/2008, -12/+2Funny how the lamest super hero turns in to the best movie. Now if they could only make a movie about Spot...
- Jexie, on 05/05/2008, -0/+8As far as I know Iron Man has been one of their comics that really struggled in recent times so maybe most people do think he's the lamest superhero....but there is just something about these guys who haven't had any 'magic' power just fall into their lap that appeals. He reminds me of Batman.
- Defuser, on 05/05/2008, -0/+20First of all sir, Iron Man is not "the lamest super hero". That title will always go to Aquaman. Second of all, one of the reasons Iron Man is such a great movie is that the Director actually cared about the character. In nearly every other comic book movie, (such as the X-Men), the Director/actors have seemed to take a perverse pride in bragging about how they "never read comic books" and "had never heard of" the character they're bringing to the screen. In the case of Iron Man, nearly everyone involved was a fan of the comic book, and it shows.
- wild, on 05/05/2008, -1/+6Thanks,, Comic Book Guy.
- itsgotyou, on 05/05/2008, -2/+2***** YOU!! Aqua-man is not lame. Name another super hero that can stay underwater indefinitely and can talk to dolphins.

Place your bets, diggsters!- jabberwolf, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6Dark night will open with 105 or 110.
The Dark Knight will be seen by more adults but because its much more violent and dark, some parents wont be bringing their kids.- brain3000us, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3From my movie experience, parents bring their kids to the movies regardless of how dark/bloody/violent it is.
- fxu1989, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3ah ***** ... I meant Spiderman and Ironman....
Sorry :( - Epik, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Because Batman Begins was so good and now TDK has so much hype, it doesn't even have to be as great of a movie as Iron Man for it to have better box office numbers. There's definitely a chance it might be better though and of course, the death of Ledger won't hurt ticket sales either. I liked Iron Man about the same as Batman Begins... I'm not sure which I'd choose as the better one... Bale and Downey Jr are both perfect.
- xtal3, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1I don't think it'll make as much, though I'm hoping otherwise. I think that it may be seen as too "adult" for preteens regardless of being very good
- tehcakeisalie, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I think TDK will because of the hype caused by Heath Ledger's death (not to take away from his acting skills, especially for the role in this movie). Robert Downey blew his character away in this film.
- bignerd, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1TDK will win on the "Heath Ledger Factor" alone!

- J4k3, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Yup, amazing transformation. I never really liked him as an actor but I must say his performance here was astounding. Pretty much everyone did their utmost in this movie.
- Vash_aka_TK, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Jeff Bridges, I almost didn't even recognize who he was until the guy said something.
- SenorCardgage74, on 05/05/2008, -4/+29FINALLY, a superhero I can get behind!
I love Superman, but he's a bit too pure to be truly compelling to me.
Batman is great, but Bruce Wayne seems more quiet than truly "dark"
Spiderman is alright, but Peter Parker is a total pussy, so whatever.
And the Xmen answered the phone when Brett Ratner called.
But IRON MAN tho...
Tony Stark is a billionaire boozehound playboy.
A superhero for the rest of us.
Absolutely ace flick. Cant wait to see where it all goes.- SenorCardgage74, on 05/05/2008, -0/+7Oh crap, sorry for all the weird spacing guys.

tony stark is rediculously smart and geeky.

- TEMM, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7If we adjusted older movies for inflation of the dollar and inflation of movie ticket prices would these new "blockbusters" still reign? Inquiring minds must know!
- cubeblue, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Frequently movie comparison numbers are adjusted for inflation, but it depends on who is reporting what. I think this is partly why Gone With The Wind was (is?) still so incredibly high on the list of money-making movies.
- TEMM, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2I just roughly estimated ET's opening weekend take, adjusted for average movie price then and now, at about 27M if it had happened at todays average movie ticket price.

- ApokalypseNow, on 05/05/2008, -0/+13If we do, it'll be in Hulkbuster armor.
- liquidmetalband, on 05/05/2008, -15/+4Yea.. let's cheer some big corporations making money...
- jakeh111, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
- JointVenture, on 05/05/2008, -1/+8Poor people suck.
- 1Pint, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6I have no problem with a big corporation earning my money as long as the product is high quality. *hugs his Dyson Sweeper*
- DubiousDrewski, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6This exactly. What the hell's the problem with a "big corporation" making money. Is there something inherently wrong with that? If they scratch my back (Give me a cool movie), I'll happily scratch theirs (Give them my $9.25). No problem here.
- CannedMango, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3In case you haven't learned the formula, here it is:
Good Movie + Good Box Office = Sequel that people actuallly want - ZurMacht, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah, its all the corporations fault, maaaaaan.
...How are you even posting this? Chances are your using windows or os x, and posting on a comp thats made by a corporation.
- LogicBomB, on 05/05/2008, -2/+13My only complaint was the anti-climactic final fight scene. The movie could have easily been called "Making Iron Man" or "Iron Man: Prologue". It was the perfect introduction movie to hopefully a great sequal / trillogy but the final fight was seriously lacking.
- EvilJelloMan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+17To me, the final fight was the icing on an already brilliantly atypical superhero movie. There was no ridiculously over the top battle, no deus ex machina hackneyed ending, and no "OMG THE WORLD WILL END" to force drama onto a cookie-cutter by-the-books fight scene. It was a pleasant departure from the over-used same-old, same-old tripe Hollywood usually throws at us. By far the best superhero movie I've ever seen.
- ZurMacht, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Spoiler---
Dude, he uses a motorcycle as a club. - chonuts, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Like you said, it's the perfect first movie for a sequel or trilogy. I think if the last battle scene of the first movie in the series was so incredibly epic, it'd be hard to top it in the following movies without coming off as sort of cheezy -- and in the end, we'd all be talking about how Iron Man 1 was so much better than Iron Man 2 and 3. To me, the final fight scene had everything I wasn't expecting from a typical Hollywood big-budget, and it was nice to see a flashy battle without the over-the-top feeling a la Transformers. Best superhero movie out there, that is, until The Dark Knight is released. *crosses fingers*
- bjs3171, on 05/05/2008, -3/+11Robert Downey Jr just oozes greatness in his acting.
- JointVenture, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1Maybe he should run for president.
- Stupidumb, on 05/05/2008, -3/+2That's not greatness...
- Tyrghast, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Goatee, mumbling, and self-deprecating humor must be the keys to great acting...
- pootpoot, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0To be fair, he just acted like he himself. Read or listen to some of his interviews and you'll see.
Don't take it as a negative comment! Seriously, RDJ made Iron Man. If it were Tom Cruise, who they were considering at first, it would've been SEVERELY lacking.
- Defuser, on 05/05/2008, -3/+14The coolest thing about the Iron Man movie was the wide demographic that attended. I went opening night, as well as this weekend, and at both shows the theater was packed with everyone from kids to the elderly. Every age, sex, and social strata was represented. Seriously, if you don't like this movie, it's hard to imagine what you actually would like, because it has something for just about everyone.
- diggapleeeze, on 05/05/2008, -1/+13where are all the pundits who said GTA would hurt Iron Man's box office potential?
- endlessoul, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Digga, please.
- WileEPeyote, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4They are still playing GTA.
- gubatron2, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I went to the movie for a break, then kept playing all weekend
- liquisoft, on 05/05/2008, -1/+15Well clearly GTAIV stole money and made people not want to see movies.
Oh wait, people only don't go to see ***** movies. People love seeing _good_ movies. My bad. - gnuoyiy, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2I went for the Narnia preview...nah, the movie was amazing. Can't remember the last movie I thought was worth paying for.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2You payed 12 bucks to watch a 2 minute preview for a kid's movie that would be on the internet within days?
- JointVenture, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2So people went out and spent money on a movie when they could have donated it to the poor people?
You bastards! - jabberwolf, on 05/05/2008, -2/+5When people go out to see a movie and spend THAT much money on an opening. That's a good sign of things to come!
- taradisiac, on 05/05/2008, -13/+1Yet ANOTHER movie of a comic book?
- valis, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Yup. And the next one will be "Alfred E Newman: Eight Years in the White House".
Iron Man rocks. Period. Excellent adaptation.- Abomonog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2*****
- Abomonog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1"Yup. And the next one will be "Alfred E Newman: Eight Years in the White House"."
Yeah, I hate sequels too.
Sorry for the blank above. I don't know how the system forgot what I submitted.
- valis, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Yup. And the next one will be "Alfred E Newman: Eight Years in the White House".
- borneo66, on 05/05/2008, -2/+12As a Marvel shareholder, I thank you all!

- trdrstv, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0Hehehe. You're getting Dugg down because nobody gets the joke. I had Marvel stock as well and had it called.

- blairslovechild, on 05/05/2008, -9/+3Don't forget that the weak dollar means that $200 million is only enough to buy a big mac and fries, though. Or, perhaps it is better to think about the amount of popcorn it buys....
I think it's important to put these things in perspective.- cvindustries, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Considering movies are the #1 export of the US economy, so what.
- blairslovechild, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I thought it was only the number one export if you included pornographic movies.
Alternatively, oil could perhaps be listed as the biggest export, since all oil is traded in dollars for some inane reason. This is only a paper export, but is perhaps still an interesting concept.
But on the most serious note, the USA is a net importer, which means that even with it's marvelous movie sales overseas, it is continuing to borrow and borrow to buy goods from Asia and Europe. I live in Germany... one of the very few net exporters in the Western Hemisphere.
- blairslovechild, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I thought it was only the number one export if you included pornographic movies.

- CarStan, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1wrong reply
- Zaneris, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I see your point, but, I don't find it very compelling.
- ClevelandBrown, on 05/05/2008, -2/+19The movie was awesome. The burger king plug did not make me want burger king.
- matriculated, on 05/05/2008, -0/+10But it made you talk about it which is what product placement is all about unfortunately.
- jamshid, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Yeah, let's all try to avoid Burger King, not only for this product placement, but for their disturbing, appetite-killing commercials.
Iron Man did make up for this lame product placement by using Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" during one of the scenes where Downey is working on the suit.
- jamshid, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Yeah, let's all try to avoid Burger King, not only for this product placement, but for their disturbing, appetite-killing commercials.
- MarkerMafioso, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4I actually had burger king right after. Delicious
- brownr21, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Same...
- gubatron2, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I got out of that movie craving a Pepsi and a Burger, I died in the nearesst Wendy's
- bignerd, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9The Audi plug DID make me want an Audi
- digitallysick, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Agreed
- brownr21, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Same...
- digitallysick, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Agreed
- madroneDorf, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1should have been In and Out
- matriculated, on 05/05/2008, -0/+10But it made you talk about it which is what product placement is all about unfortunately.
- CarStan, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7I cant wait to see Tropic Thunder, only because of Downey Jr.
If he is half as good as he is in Iron Man, this calls for an oscar nomination.- heavystone, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1Why? Downey is cool yes, but he is not giving any performances worthy of an Oscar.
- Cideu, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2What about his role in Zodiac, or Chaplin (which he was nominated an Oscar for)?
- radiopayola, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Downey Jr. has given quite a few oscar-worthy performances...mostly for losing efforts. He should have enough recognition to snag an oscar caliber script, now...should be interesting if he can hold himself together.
- heavystone, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1Why? Downey is cool yes, but he is not giving any performances worthy of an Oscar.
