- knulpm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Man, you guys have to think more like a movie executive.
First, we have to completely reinvent his origin, because obviously the creators didn't know what they were doing. So now, Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist who is contacted by aliens who gave him his "Iron Man" suit. Or maybe we rip off the song "Iron Man" and have him travel time...we'll decide later.
Okay, so now, we've got to completely change his appearance because obviously fans won't go to the movie to see the same thing they see in comic books, right? Now his suit is silver and blue, and it'll be made of "liquid metal" that forms around him. That's so much more "extreme" and will synergize with the brand identity of the 18-34 demo.
Third, we have to change his villain. The Mandarin is out: magic rings are played out from Lord of the Rings and we don't want to offend the Chinese fans. Now Iron Man battles...uuuuh, terrorists. Yeah, that's the ticket! Eco-terrorists who are lead by a leader from a nonspecified generic Eastern European nation.
Ok, and we have to talk about the fight scenes. First, no more than 8 minutes of action in the whole movie. That's enough to fill up a commercial and two trailers to get people excited...that'll cut costs down. Do you know how much it takes to CGI up rocket boots and laser beams!? Also, that won't appeal to women so we need a love interest: that subplot will take up 40% of the movie. Some buddy comedy action with War Machine (although he won't have any powers or do anything cool in the movie) will take up an aditional 30%. Oh, and any time Iron Man fights we have him wear as little of the armor as possible. Cuts down costs, AND it'll let us see more of our leading man. That'll bring in even more of the female demographic!
Finally, how committed are we to the name Iron Man? Maybe if we change his name... - burkewendt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31All I care about is if they finally settle the debate that was first brought up on Seinfeld:
What does Iron man wear under his suit? If he's nude under there, that would be some serious chaffing - Hoshnasi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18No! The real question is will he be a drunk... That is the way of the Iron Man. Power through the bottle.
- clink0914, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11And the third act should feature a fight with a giant spider.
- bigfkncee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9wonder if we'll see war machine?
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That Favreau is calling the grey suit Mark 1 is a good sign.
- TheCash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is news? Why wouldn't he include the red and gold suit?
Did people actually think that he was only going to use the ghetto gray suit for the entire movie? That's like thinking Parker was only going to appear in his cheap halloween costume for the entire movie instead of his cooler looking professional one. - slashgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Thank Gosh... cause I wasn't going to see a 'back-story' movie about Tony Stark inventing a clunky gray suit of armor that ends without the Red & Gold making through a few battles. I want Iron Man vs. the Mandarin, sure, but I also hold out some hope that it'll lead to some Avengers appearing.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I figured. I thought the gray one was going to get him out of that prison he was in and after he gets back to his life he'd refine it to something stronger, faster, better and come up with the R&G one.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Will he get to fight Street Fighter characters?
- Dorepoll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Downey will make an excellent Tony Stark.
The colour isn't really an issue with the Iron Man movie, it's what variation of the suit they will settle for. There are like, 40 different designs of the iron man suit, and I'd like to see if they stick to just the one. - Matri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Colour not an issue? Then I take it you won't mind seeing Superman in gold? Or Spiderman wearing pink & green?
C'mon. There are enough variations and imagination to make it an unlimited number of armour designs, but even then... With the exception of the grey Mark 1, The Silver Centurion and the War Machine variant, the underlying theme to his armours are always Red & Gold.
Besides, were you even paying attention to the uproar over Optimus Prime's flames decals? - jesusfreak216, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i think the more important questions are:
1.will he be alive or dead?
2.will he have thoughts within his head?
3.will they just pass him there, and most importantly-
4.will we even care? - kahlessreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wait so this is basically a re-make of the animated movie that came out his year?
The Invincible Iron Man - http://www.marvel.com/movies/Iron_Man.The_Invincible_Iron_Man
Or is just a whole new story line? - owenadam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am interested in your ideas...will War Machine be played by Uncle Phil?
- screamingmango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hee-hee! You got me going there for a while . . . .
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8thank gosh?
i chose to thank the space pope - sephiroth965, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was the probably the best 2d fighter ever made.
- Musicdgamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3According to IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371746/ Jim Rhodes (aka War Machine) is in the movie. I doubt we'll see War Machine in the first movie though.
- Jacob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4and lex luthor fighting polar bears of course.
- clink0914, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well just look at who they picked for the role.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+2Batman Begins already went the "first suit" route. They've already said there will be Mark 1-3 in this movie, so by the end he will have the final suit.
And yes, he will be a drunk. Downey already mentioned it. The only reason it wouldn't be there is if they cut it as an unecessary subplot. - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I thought the gray one was war machine. Dang it now I'm all confused!
- dominiccarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm really excited about this film, everything i've heard from the director so far has shown his love of the source material and from the pictures i've seen they seem to be translating it very well to the big screen.
- Dorepoll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I meant by "not an issue" is that I wasn't really worried that it was going to be another colour. In fact, the idea that they could have had alternative colours didn't even cross my mind, which means my Marvel knowledge is slipping.
On a nerdy note, Warren Ellis' arc on the recent Iron Man series is amazing. - Matri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, main colours of Red & Gold should be there, but proportions and parts would be less strict. Red helmet with gold faceplate should be the minimum.
And I always hated the Silver Centurion colour scheme. - Matri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hopefully not a remake. That one, while fun to watch, completely eviscerated the Iron Man origin.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4That's why Superman Returns was such a flop. 8 minutes of action spread out into 20 commercials. You are describing the new Transformers movie.
- leetdood, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3The bottle defeats all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1well of course he's going to have a red & gold suit, ya moron.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2I believe Iron Man is in good hands with Favreau - Vegas Baby, Vegas!
http://www.cafepress.com/colbert08hq - Nicholicious, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4But the REAL question about the Iron Man armor is.....
will it blend?
