      We can appreciate aXXo and others who do a service for so many people, but let's drop all the pretense!

      the whole issue of being given 'credit', verbally, is where the BS starts.

      It is OK to express gratitude, but not to imagine that it is some kind of damn 'commodity' (props) that one should hoard or crave or actively seek!

      I'm just so sick of people, in our dumbed-down culture, who make up words like 'props' to encourage all the worst and most destructive of false ideals, and even certain prejudicial beliefs not based in actual reality -- by codifying them into all these fake pseudo-words, that then are repeated by so many (unconscious, asleep) people that the mainstream language is being totally destroyed and rendered into a super-dumb language for idiots.

      MTV does a lot to encourage such a butchering of language. And all the mega corporations with their advertising also help to promote this vapid, manipulative, materialistic, ignorant NEW-SPEAK..

      Another example of this vapid ruination of language is that people say "I was like..."', when they mean to say "I SAID..."

      No, idiots, you are not describing your own nature, but are simply referring to something you expressed!
      Learn how to speak, instead of making up stupid expressions!

      We do NOT have to go along with it!

    All "Axxo" does is download some other groups DVDR release and re-encode it...woopty ***** doo. The same people downloading his releases are likely the same people you find still using limewire.

      XViDs aren't just for people as you described. Why keep a pile of DVDRs when you can keep loads of movies on the hard drive that have been encoded down? With stuff like XBMC its so much easier to keep dvdrips on multimedia setups than swap dvds every time you want to watch a different film.

      I usually look for a film, download it, and watch it the same night, you can't reasonably expect to do that with 4 gig files.

Like most people, I watch it on a television, non-HD, so the difference between the DVD-SCR and the DVDR is not noticable. For audio, yes there is a difference sometimes, but very few movies warrant the downloading of the extra 3 gigs of data for SLIGHTLY better sound. Downloading the DVDR is for people who either have very nice theatre setups in their homes, with GIGANTIC hard drives or LARGE amounts of DVD-R discs or those who feel that there is a true difference in quality which 99% of the people would never be able to point out.

Every aXXo release I've ever seen has been the best quality I would expect from a 700MB file. Quit discouraging the man from doing a good thing. Just about any other mpeg4 codec - divx has better texture retention, lavc (from ffmpeg or mencoder) has better quality at the same bitrates, and h.264 is better than all of them. Xvid tends to have more blocking in low light areas, poor detail and texture retention, and there are compatibility issues with some stand alone playback hardware (LACIE Silverscreen, MVIX boxes, some DVD players) that are not present when the same material is encoded with divx or lavc.

    • spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Because it's not as simple as just clicking a button and waiting an hour, think about it for a second, all his releases fit on a single CD, and appear nearly the same quality. Despite the fact that Some can be as much as an hour longer than others.

      It's about getting the balance right between quality and size, and working out how to drop the quality to save on size without it being noticable

      It's easy... Dr. Divx, dvd::rip, and about a million more programs do exactly the same thing.

In fact, good luck to anyone trying to fit a 2Hr+ movie into a 700MB file with whatever encoding program, and preserving the quality that aXXo manages to get.

      Because I'm pretty sure that a guy who steals sources and passes them off as his own after re-encoding them, wouldn't even know where to begin writing his own video codecs.

      Sure anyone can learn that eventually, but it will take a lot more experience and time than you are suggesting. Like I said: try fitting a 2hr10min movie into 700MB with that level of quality, with any encoder, whilst keeping it compatible with the DivXplayers around.

      Also, if you have any proof of him stealing a source (see my reply way below as well), I'd like to see that proof or at least kindly point me to the nfo of the group claiming aXXo does this. Some marker should be easy enough for them to insert into a movie if a group truly wanted to track their releases to support such a claim.

    Here is what I do
    Download aXXo's release
    convert to h.264 for my ipod
    watch the movie
    if i like it, i put it on the Xvid on my XBOX Media Center AND get the ISO to burn on a DVD-R
    If not, I just leave the Xvid on my XBMC

I just want to see the movie, he's popular for that, and he's good at it. When people complain about whether or not aXXo is a REAL release group from the scene... I just wonder... why do you care?

    Also, why would the MPAA go after aXXo now more than ever? The releases are always the most downloaded, I've heard of some people who wait for aXXo releases. I'm pretty sure they were after him before he spoke to TorrentFreak. Oh, and this wasn't much of an interview, the few questions asked really, really were bad.

      I have nothing against aXXo, but people have to realize that the releases are not his, but others with his name stamped on it.

    Giving props to some lame p2p trader........ Groups that contribute to the scene are the first and BEST along with internal groups. p2p traders would know these groups if people didn't rename files to exclude the tags.

  • hersito, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4@ all "da dogs in da Scene" that are keeping it "real": Know that 95% of the people in the world don't have a high speed inet connection of 10mbps or more and that no many people with computers in the world have a 500gb HD or a DVD burner to keep or burn the DVD releases, so that's why aXXo is so popular in the world. Here in Argentina the normal connection is of 512kb, that's 64Kb of speed and of course is blocked by the ISP so you can get with luck 20Kb to 30Kb. So with that connection you can be 1 week to download one 4GB movie and in that time you can download five or six aXXo releases. And the difference in quality is not that notable because we don't have 42 plasma or LCD TVs, we still have mostly 29' CRTs, we don't have the money to buy better TVs so there is no need for better definition. So before ranting some one like aXXo know the world a little more. In the world we are not all making more than 15U$D an hour, for that matter we don't even make 3U$D an hour, and our daddy's don't buy us 42 inch LCD or pays for a T1 Internet connection.. So aXXo keep up the good work and he is actually some kind of Robin Hood. That said all the other groups keep realising dvds some time in the future "everyone" in the world will be able to download dvds (of course you will be releasing HDDVD and BLU RAYS at that time and bashing people who download dvds).

And in Europe you can get 10mbps conectios with cable and hpone for less than 100 Euros, but im the ignorant, (not to say that you probable make twice as much and spend twice as less than people in the rest of the world). I never said anything about USA in my first post, I was just refering to the people in "the scene" and all the people that were bashing axxo and people that download axxo releases saing that we are stupid for downloading crap because we don't have the bandwith. YOU brougth USA up because you americans think you are the big *****, but i was refering to the people in general that have the money for a High speed connection (beeing that in USA or Europ or Asia). Besides most of the releasers are from europ and asia not USA so get a grip and a brain.

    It's pretty easy to download a DVD-R rip then run it through Autogk and seed it.

    Nice excuse. More than likely, they are 2+days behind because he has to download the original scene rip then convert it.

      such encoder groups usually only have 1 encoder. true there are more then one person usually. everyone has their own setup. you have someone that is the source, then the encoder, and then the curry to distribute. the only difference here is, he doesn't have a source he just steals off of others and he doesn't have a curry to distribute because he is on bit torrent.

I thought this wasnt supposed to happen...nuts--probably wont happen again :( But, its probably because aXXo is indeed one of the most popular rippers out there right now; say what you want about quality etc. but you must admit that. And whats with all the "torrent snobs" posting here?? Calling people noobs etc. over a dvd rip? Although, I guess thats internet culture for ya... I think the bottom line is that his torrents are absolutely great for what they are; plus you can pretty much download a rip fairly quickly, and watch it right then and there--instead of dl it overnight. You want a crystal clear DVD copy, fine...go download another torrent. Ive used many aXXo rips on a regular old 32 inch tv--not to mention my monitor--, the quality is great. Can i see sweat dripping down faces, dust floating through the air? No. Do I sit in awe over the superb surround sound? No. Do I download the most CG, special effects packed aXXo torrents (he doesnt have many anyway)? No. Why all this fuss, if you dont like them and want pristine rips, download something else...

I normally download the DVD-R release's (somebody metioned this above) especially REPLiCA's ones, and TV rips mainly LOL, XOR, NOTV (though theirs are too gud), the list goes on.

    Their isn't much of a skill to dvdripping anymore apart from finding the dvd prior to its release.

    Though gud on him for sticking it to the corporations.
  • joxer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1At least the guy isn't doing it for a buck, probably the only reason why the MPAA/RIAA isn't chasing him to the ends of the earth just yet...that and he probably isn't the first person to release the stuff.

    If he hasn't got much in terms of assets, he is looking at jail time though, I'd tread very carefully if I was him. Maybe his age is the only thing stopping that.
