Indiana Jones 4 - The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
news.com.au — It's been almost 20 years since he last wore the crumpled fedora, but Harrison Ford was not suffering from any last-minute nerves in the lead up to the world premiere of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in Cannes.

- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1i have to admit, I'm keeping expectations low. I hope it kicks ass, but I'm bracing myself for the worst.
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1It seems like they're minimizing Harrison Ford in the trailers. In the last one, he seemed like an old man, lethargic.
That explains Shia Lebouf's role... he's there to be the action hero that Harrison Ford can't be.
I have a bad feeling about this...- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1eh, I don't know about that. it looks like mostly Ford that is punching people, swinging around, and jumping off of moving vehicles etc. the question is whether it will be convincing. Shia mostly seems to be standing around with his mouth hanging open - other than the motorcycle scene. but the way i see it - if Shia's character really is Indy's long lost son, it probably serves to create a symmetry with the motorcycling scenes from Last Crusade with Indy and his father. I'm mostly afraid it won't be realistic that indy is still kicking so much ass, and of course that the story will suck. but I hold out hope.

- doshindude, on 05/16/2008, -6/+3learn to read.
- Angostura, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Talking to another newspaper, Harrison Ford said he thinks the movie is good. Others may have different opinions.
There, I've managed to cram in every last ounce of information that the article imparts. - BowieX, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Umm, I think he meant WITHOUT *spoiler* information, ass.
- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Ford says tis all good. some anonymous internet dude said it sux, some anonymous dude said is rulz. you decide may 22 coming to a theater near you
- Coffeedemon, on 05/16/2008, -7/+7Have to say the trailer didn't really move me. I saw it at Iron Man and it was the first exposure I've had to the new Indy. That said I'm trying to approach this like I did the old ones. I didn't watch a lot of trailers, the internet wasn't there for me to get 100 advance reviews and I just went and lined up because the previous movie was good. That said - the trailer makes it look like an Indiana Jones movie and I trust Spielberg at least. I think a lot of these sites like AICN exist to generate buzz by being the first to slam a popular project. Look at the people involved - how bad can it be?
- Murdats, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8this movie could be a kick in the nuts and it would still be better the 99% of movies hollywood pumps out.
- WayOfTheIronPaw, on 05/16/2008, -2/+3George Lucas has demonstrated, on 3 occasions in recent times, just how bad it can be.
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Burt Renolds, Jason Stratham, John Rhys-Davies, Ron Perlman, Ray Liotta, Leelee Sobieski...
Look at all those A+ names. How bad can it be?
Note: I added Leelee to that list because she's hot and was the only reason Nic Cage's version of Wicker Man was watchable.- higgy345, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I've been trying to forget the fact I went and seen that movie.
- surfacewound, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3You need look no further than Oceans 12 to debunk that logic...

- hollyminkowski, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6It would have been great if Sean Connery had agreed to play Indy's Dad again. He was so good in the last movie.
(I should have sent it to the Marx Brothers)- Bloodwine, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Seriously, no sidekick can compare to father Jones. Even if Shia Labeouf wasn't so obnoxious, those are big shoes to fill.
I respect Sean Connery's retirement, though. I only wish he would've come back and have Indiana Jones 4 be his swan song instead of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Leave the business on a more positive note.- DRC1, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Wait, how old is Sean Connery? Damn and I thought Harrison Ford was old...
- Bloodwine, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Seriously, no sidekick can compare to father Jones. Even if Shia Labeouf wasn't so obnoxious, those are big shoes to fill.
- chrisinsocalif, on 05/16/2008, -6/+10I am scared that the movie may bomb just the newest star war movies do to added CGI or other nonsense. I hope they kept the same formula and didn't mess anything up. Otherwise it should be a great flick! I cant wait to see the movie.
- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0Well it has minimal CGI and maximum action. I have a copy of Empire which has a limited edition Indiana Jones diary compiled by the Lucas, Spielberg, Ford etc.
good stuff!- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -3/+3Maximum action? Harrison Ford is SEVENTY YEARS OLD. What's he going to do, shamble down to the cafeteria and get another pudding cup?
- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Just because he's old does not mean he can't be Jones again. They've stated he's still capable and where he isn't he's able to humour us with a twist.
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -2/+2Do you know anyone in their 70s? I do. I work with a woman in her 70s. She's tough, sure, but she's not running relay races. My grandmother's in her 70s. She's in the garden tending to her plants every day. But she's not an action star. She can't walk 25 yards without needing to take a break.
70 is OLD, there's no getting around that simple fact. And as someone else pointed out, the humor is a lot less subtle and more "LOL LOOK JOKES, BE DISTRACTED FROM INDIE'S WALKER." - pookkake, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0he is 65, not 70.
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -3/+2Date of Birth: 13 July 1942, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Okay, he's 66. That's retirement age. This movie needed to be made 15 years ago. - dsmx, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2My Granddad is 82 and he went abseiling in January, I fail to see why HF can't do an action film at 65.
- nirav72, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Thats why they have stunt doubles!
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -3/+3Maximum action? Harrison Ford is SEVENTY YEARS OLD. What's he going to do, shamble down to the cafeteria and get another pudding cup?
- antdude, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2I hope the movie is better than Temple of Doom. I will be happy with that. I am not expecting it to be good as or better than Raider of the Lost Ark.
- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0Well it has minimal CGI and maximum action. I have a copy of Empire which has a limited edition Indiana Jones diary compiled by the Lucas, Spielberg, Ford etc.
- lokiM45, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I can't wait to see this!, hopefully it will be just as epic as the earlier ones..
- mprice177, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Correct me if i am wrong but is Shia LaBeouf going to continue the Indiana Jones movies?.....
...if so, i will believe in what Steven Spielberg and George Lucas choose to do..- Bloodwine, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3you mean Shia LaBeouf will be the "Indiana" of the future movies? If so, then this will be the last I'll care to watch. I can't stand him. He is no Harrison Ford and he seems to be annoying in every movie he is in.
Man I miss 1980's Harrison Ford.- RealmDown, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1If he is like the rest of us, he does too. :-D
- RealmDown, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1If he is like the rest of us, he does too. :-D
- CA55IDY, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4Shia's in everythig these days playing the cheesy sidekick, bring back short round!!!!!
- redcatalina, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Short round is 37 years old. Not sure it would be quite the same.
- Gutterpunk, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Seeing as he play character who is not Indy, I wonder how he could be the next Indiana Jones. That'd be hard to explain.
Beside, if Spielberg wants to expand on the Jones' universe, he has enough material to make movies about "Young Indiana Jones" that he has about replacing him with a brand new character, especially seeing as the timeframe wouldn't match Indy's much anymore.- mprice177, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Don't be a dumbass...i said "continue the Indiana Jones movies" *** keyword ***MOVIES

- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Booked 4 seats at Odeon Leicester square for this at £14.50 a seat. this film is going to be the bomb I can feel it!
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -4/+2This film IS going to be a bomb. Lets watch a 70 year old man run around for 2 hours with the annoying kid from Disturbia. Thank GOD.
- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1oh no, you did NOT just diss ford.
*cracks whip*- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2He's seventy. He was great, I loved him as Indie when he was only in his late 40s, and I LOVED him in Star Wars, but he's too old for the character.
- robbiekhan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1oh no, you did NOT just diss ford.
- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2i'd never go to a movie it cost me $28.00, that is insane.
- jenel, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2This not your average movie. I wouldn't pay $28 either if it was, say, a Vin Diesel flick (ot that there's anything wrong with that). But this is ***** Indiana Jones!
- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2yeah, i exaggerated, I'd probably pay $28 to see a really good flick, but I'd read the reviews first, especially when George Lucas' name appears prominently in the credits :-D
- carpeclunes, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Is it madness?

- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -10/+3Harrison Ford is too old. They waited way too long to make this.
Plus, it's got that annoying kid from Transformers. I really hope he stops getting work.- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -3/+2Dugg down? Seriously? The man's, what, 70 now? He's too old to play the character.
And Shia LaBeouf is godawful. I hope you didn't digg me down for stating that FACT. He's 90% of the reason Transformers blew dong.- pookkake, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1He is 65, you idiot.
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -3/+2Dugg down? Seriously? The man's, what, 70 now? He's too old to play the character.
- fishbeef33, on 05/16/2008, -8/+3George Lucas lost his mojo years ago, and from what I understand he was the one who was adamant about doing this Crystal Skull story. Frankly, all I can say is that it was up to Spielberg on this one to pull the reigns away from the edge of the Cliff of Suck, and I hope he did it. And did it better than he did on Temple of Doom, too.
- Bloodwine, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Am I the only person who enjoyed Temple of Doom?
It is a lot like Super Mario Brothers 2. It doesn't feel like the rest of the series, but it's enjoyable in a totally different way.- Mysk, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I'm a big fan of all of the Indiana Jones movies. Each of them were great IMO. ;D
I am concerned about this one though. The Crystal Skull isn't the best first choice, you know? Kind of cliche. It's not like uncovering the Ark or some such. Indy would just have to go to a museum to find one of them, so where's the adventure? - kalii, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I know I didn't care for that one much, felt it got too far away from history and archeology and more into relationships and action.

- Bloodwine, on 05/16/2008, -6/+5"You're a teacher?" "Part time"
That scares me. They had better not dumb down the quality, subtle humor of the previous Indiana Jones movies. I don't want a movie of stupid, easy-to-digest quips.- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -2/+3It will be, because that's what the majority of the movie going populous wants. They want punchlines lined up and knocked down over and over. They want giant robot-car aliens peeing on the 'bad guy.' They want dumb jokes that anyone who knows anything about comedy can see coming from the parking lot. And they eat that ***** up.
Look at the 'comedies' coming out these days. Easy joke after easy joke. Look at all the 'urban dancing' movies. Or the poorly done 'spoof' movies. People will eat up any ***** you shovel into their faces, as long as you tell them it's funny. Most people need laugh tracks to know when to laugh for *****'s sake!- carpeclunes, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2You are a very pessimistic person, Lyph. How about instead you look at the box office success of No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood, or the fact that Superhero Movie completely tanked in theaters.
People don't need a laugh track anymore. Look at the popularity of shows like The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, and even Arrested Development.
And maybe you should try to enjoy a movie every once in a while.- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1You list quality movies but ***** shows. I'm confused.
What about Arrested Cancelment applies here? People didn't get the cue to laugh and it tanked.
The Office.. isn't funny (at least not in the US). 30 Rock doesn't appeal to me, since Tina Fay I hold responsible for the downfall of SNL. And Scrubs.. I don't even know what that is. - carpeclunes, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Well 30 Rock does suck. But they are still popular shows and they do not have laugh tracks or studio audiences.
- Lyph5, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1You list quality movies but ***** shows. I'm confused.

- BowieX, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4The music score is fantastic. John Williams has pulled it off again!
And he seems to have had a ball writing this, in my opinion, his magnum opus. Anybody heard it yet?
The "Call of the Crystal" themes (there's three themes/motifs depicting the crystal skull, one is hypnotic, one is eerily chromatic, the other a forbidden lullaby), "Irina's Theme" and "Mutt's Themes" are all Williams on fire, at his finest and most thrilling since The Last Crusade in 1989.
He even composes hilariously authentic 'Mariachi' source music for the scene when the gang arrives in Mexico!- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3where'd you hear the score if I may ask?
- AmusedToDeath, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Bittorrent. And yes, the score is awesome.
- dn11, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3where'd you hear the score if I may ask?
- pigfister, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1hasn't this mpaa crap been slated by reviewers?
- davemak, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Harrison Ford is trying to promote the movie. What else would he say? This movie sucks? I always have a bad feeling about a big time movie star promoting their new movie. The actual goodness of a movie is inversely proportional to the amount of talk show promotions the big star goes on. I hope I don't see Harrison Ford do too many talk shows :)
- hypogenic, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0It's really depressing that my honey has a snake-o-phobia and we won't be going to the cinema together to see it :(
- danjal, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I think people complaining about his have have to realise, in the first film he wasn't young anway!
- WoollyMittens, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Ford Focus... I lolled.
- hybridcreation, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I have faith the combo of Harrison and Spielberg will not let us down. I will admit that from the trailer I have seen, the modern effects and production value do give it a different feel, but that doesn't mean it will be any less good. I'll be seeing it ASAP after it comes out.
- thejuggernaut11, on 05/16/2008, -4/+0I hope it's as good as 'In Diana Jones and the Temple of Poon'
- frosted, on 05/16/2008, -3/+0Sure.. this will be just as good as the first 3..
Anyone else here smell a rat? - tocksin, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1I cant wait for the video game adaptations. For some odd reason, they're usually much better than normal movie-to-game adaptations. Any 2600 in the house?
- chookalana, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Thank God I have that day off!!!!
- wigginz, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1it's been getting horrible reviews, you fanboys sound way too optimistic.

- mult1task, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1You're making one review sound like 100 reviews.
- wigginz, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I'm just sayin... it could just as easily be a bad movie is all.
- seansshack, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1reviews from who?
- fdavis, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I just have one question, Dark Knight or Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?, my money is on Dark Knight. The previews look amazing.
- smek2, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Meh.
- seansshack, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1considering who is involved in this from cast through to director, if it is a dud, I'll be very surprised.
They have resisted making another indy movie for many years now. So you would think they should have a great script to back up the cast.
My money is on it being excellent....
