- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -11/+153If loving 300 is wrong, I don't want to be right.
- michaelb1, on 10/11/2007, -8/+95Great article. I was starting to get annoyed by this premise as well.
Just because movies show male bonding, arch enemies battling, exposed man flesh, DOES NOT MEAN ITS GAY!
It means the critics that make those claims are gay. - pyry, on 10/11/2007, -2/+59If you like 300 that has nothing to do with being gay. Now, if you like having sex with men on the other hand, that might mean something.
- bibfortuna, on 10/11/2007, -4/+48Now I know why I get a boner every time I see a decapitation.
- astrobrights, on 10/11/2007, -6/+50film critics often miss the entire point of a film. great article
- Kingfisherx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44Guys who are straight don't view the male anatomy as sexual, we view it as a biological machine with specific uses. This was why "300" was considered bad-ass by "straight" guys, because it was the male form being used in it's most primordial essence. Hunting and gathering, having sex with the wife, and being a physical warrior / protector (the use of ones own hands not guns). The last is a reflection of our more animal self which has been disconnected in today's society. Our human nature still craves this type of conflict, (which is why sports is a beloved past time the world over) especially since we've moved to types of warfare that puts the violence in the hands of machines. I'm not advocating violence as a good thing, but it is part of our nature and we have I guess a respect for the honorable and skilled warrior. Especially those who can triumph with as little technology as possible.
- inmatarian, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40I missed the part where the 300 spartans all had steamy sex with each other. I do seem to remember a lot of killing... So, if the homosexual community has something to do with killing persians, then wouldn't they have a lot more in common with the bush administration?
- setsuna, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30But Wait there where ***** in the movie !
- agentx216, on 10/11/2007, -8/+33Maybe we are drawn to movies like 300 and Braveheart and the like because the new adults of today have been wussified. To take a quote from "Fight Club" we are men raised by our mothers. We are told to be sensitive. We are treated as girlfriends by women how have no interest in us. We have not skinned our knee on the playgroup without suing the playground and making sure all those rocks are replaced by foam...and then we aren't allowed to play there anymore for legal reasons. We like watching these movies because these are men who are both passionate and manly. Yes we can have feelings but as men we feel differently. We are inspired by these movies, which most of them are set in a period of time where men WERE men, because in between the blood and action we get to see what being a real man means. Fighting for our homes, for our families, for our rights is noble and true.
Also...I was kinda thrown off about the surfing part. This guy needs to change his headline if he's only going to talk about it in the last 2 paragraphs. - Osjpr, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28It shows how abnormal our culture is. If you see graceful, beautiful men, that is somehow automatically 'gay'. Ask yourself, who, exactly, is threatened by displays of male companionship and bonding? Could this be something to do with women and feminists? Ie. "How dare men develop close friendships with other men!"
After I wrote this I read sirlancelot88s comment above. Ding! I think I'm right. - Disease, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29And now sets in the homophobia.
I guess you're gay too if you read comic books when you were younger because the superheroes all wore tights.
*****. - blaaguuu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Well, taken literally... Yes, that makes you gay...
- Sketchcast, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19Incidentally, all of them. Homosexual pedastry was institutionalized in Spartan culture.
- rstarr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/03/21
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17If you liked the Matrix, do you like tight-leather?
- silverwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22I am gay and 300 was a great action flick.
- Pic0, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17you thought they looked hot? that is pretty gay man
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -14/+28Guys, this is kinda gay.
- chubbybubba, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15I watched 300, and liked it. It never even occurred to me that it was 'gay' or for gay people or whatever.... Maybe if a person watches a movie and then questions their sexuality... maybe that means you really are trying to tell yourself you indeed are gay. And theres nothing wrong with that.
- bitcloud, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17Once our generation get's over it's TV induced homophobia, we can look forward to true, valuable friendships and lifelong bonds with male and female friends alike...
Hell, soon we'll probably be able to interact with kids again without fear of being labelled "pedophiles" and we'll maybe be able to avoid ***** up another generation who need healthy, natural contact with adult men. - diggitizer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10And oh so very nice ones if you ask me. Especially since they were a well to do lady pair. I like 'em classy me.
- mygrayarea, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13That was for the women.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Sweeping statements about somewhere around half of America supported by "According to some Leftists...". You're talking out of your ass, man. According to every liberal I know who has seen it, 300 is a good movie.
- steelmaverick, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Approx Number of Diggers: 1Million
Approx Number of Diggers who like 300 or have commented "THIS IS SPARTA!!": 1Millon
Therefore, all diggers are gay. Since there were ***** in the movie, we must all be bisexual. However, since we were only aroused by said *****, the straight cancels out the gay.
Leaving all diggers completely straight. Of course, this number is not accurate, not all diggers are straight, just the ones that liked 300. - Pic0, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15I liked 300 and I'm not gay.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11There's nothing "macho male" about being a right-winger, though. They're the ones shivering in cowardice that some big, bad Arab man is going to hurt them.
- Murdats, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10exactly, the only way this movie could be gay
is if it was infact, gay porn.
even having non explicit gay scenes would not make a movie gay, just as having non explicity lesbian scenes does not make a movie lesbian
i think peoples problems with this movie is the fact that they are personally troubled by all the male flesh/bonding etc and are disturbingly appealed by it - HBNDonut, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8THIS IS CAKE TOWN!
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7To be honest I think it's the author of the article who has mis-understood something, just because something is homoerotic doesn't mean that is the only reason people like it.
Top Gun is incredibly homoerotic, I like Top Gun, but not BECAUSE it's homoerotic.
Look at Harry Potter as an example, it's a children's series of books/films, some adults still like it, does that mean all the adults are secretly kids? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yeah, but they were on a 350 lb. guy with swords for arms.
- holygram, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Oh yes you are.
- napsack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7If only I could digg twice lol
- HBNDonut, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Film critics talk crap is what they do.
- benanzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6yes
- atdigg, on 10/11/2007, -11/+17For example I enjoyed Top Gun because of the action and the airplanes... I didn't even have a clue at that age that it was supposed to be a "movie for gays", once I heard that it kind of ruined it for me...
BTW, what is funny is that Spartan did have institutionalized pederasty... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_pederasty - benanzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I felt like a vagina when that movie was over. Not like I wanted *some* vagina, but that I *was* a vagina. I live such a nerf life compared to them. I need to be an ancient Greek soldier ASAP. My girlfriend noticed my inferiority immediately after seeing that movie.
- atdigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Queen was pretty hot though...
- jezkah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7You know someone is a damn fine writer when they make you want to watch Point Break again.
- mos6507, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Apparently men also aren't allowed to hold hands with their daughters either. How long before they have to put on burqas and be chaparoned around town by women?
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10You taught?
I taught I saw a puddycat.
I did! I did! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6homosexuality and pederasty are unrelated.
Boys were simply freer to be outside of the home than girls.
Girls were always someone's property. - ryanmetcalf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4yes.
- benanzo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The Greeks bred whole armies of gay men because then they fought more ferociously - not for the cause, but for each other - and it worked. Look it up.
- cfuse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4300 is actually homophobic - if you ignore all the sweet, hot manflesh on display (I was gay long before I saw 300). The spartans are all depicted as straight as arrows (which historically is bullcrap), the spartans make fun of the other greeks for 'sleeping with boys'. Xerxes is depicted as a perverted queer and dressed up like a tranny.
- NeoNevermore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Uhhh...300?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I remember there was a line in the film where leonidas said that greek philosophers were boy lovers and the way he said as if he is not gay and does not approve of that, I didn't get why the film maker went out of their to say that spartan aren't gay. (and no i didn't read the 300 graphic novel)
- Cerialthriller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4its only gay if the dicks cross
