- anonm, on 04/19/2008, -1/+32Actually, cracked numbered lists usually make the front page. The other stuff-not so much.
- digitalarcanum, on 04/20/2008, -10/+5actually I'm pretty happy this made front page. Juno was pretentious tripe filled with indie music. It felt like Napoleon Dynamite, except with teen pregnancy. The indie music made me sick. How this excrement got an oscar or as much popularity as it did suprises me.
Dugg, because Juno sucked. majorly.- AwesomePossum, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1Your an idiot. majorly ...... tripe face.
- MacintoshMan, on 04/20/2008, -3/+3THANK GOD. I thought I was the only one who was discusted at how bad juno was.

- KiraDnote, on 04/20/2008, -1/+3Somebody forgot to tell you this was a comedy. But then you wouldn't be able to to show everybody how cool you are by criticizing the hell out of it. by pretending it was serious.

- ornerycat, on 04/19/2008, -79/+316This movie was the formulaic "independent and thus, hip and intelligent" film.
pervasive indy music. Check.
painfully transparent quirkiness. Check.
an irreverent female protagonist sarcastic about "pork swords" and her "vag". Check.
Saved! was a much better film.- Thumper13, on 04/19/2008, -74/+16Must be sad for you that you've never known a chick like Juno.
They make kick ass friends.- HenvY, on 04/19/2008, -4/+70Because she won't expect your support if you knock her up?
- FvckingFvck, on 04/19/2008, -2/+42EXACTLY.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -5/+2But what kind of girlfriends/wives would they make?
.- Disease, on 04/20/2008, -1/+8One that would refer to your penis as a "pork sword".
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Precisely.
And somehow, I get dugg down on that. Go figure...
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Precisely.
- Disease, on 04/20/2008, -1/+8One that would refer to your penis as a "pork sword".
- fuckfuckass, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Buying a RealDoll and naming it Juno doesn't qualify as "knowing a chick like Juno".
- HenvY, on 04/19/2008, -4/+70Because she won't expect your support if you knock her up?
- synaesthete, on 04/19/2008, -17/+73If it's so formulaic what other movies are like it?
- fazerfaze, on 04/20/2008, -23/+15You see all indie films are "different" so they are all the same in that way.
- jgclark123, on 04/20/2008, -5/+13He was looking for an example. I am too.
- RobotBuddha, on 04/20/2008, -11/+2Agreed. I can't think of any indi movies with sarcastic, young, female leads set to indi music. Admittingly, the pickings tend to be on the level of only one or two new ones per week in these parts. But still.... Now, tiresome pauses after something out of pop-philosophy 101, 'that' I see fairly often. Still the crap to quality ratio still seems far better to me in low budget or indi movies.
- qwerter, on 04/20/2008, -6/+1.
- Gir53457, on 04/20/2008, -30/+5I hate indie films. Gimme a big budget Hollywood action flick with a Harrison Ford/Samuel L. Jackson clone any day.
- DephexTwin, on 04/20/2008, -1/+38They *do* give you that any day.
- jgclark123, on 04/20/2008, -5/+13He was looking for an example. I am too.
- KTO3TO, on 04/20/2008, -2/+17this movie called "Trust" reminds me of it in the way that a young pregnant girl pretty much walks around everywhere without any adults, but it was way better
- KZeni, on 04/20/2008, -13/+25ornerycat told you one right in their post...
"'Saved!' was a much better film" -ornerycat- KZeni, on 04/20/2008, -7/+15Wait... who buried my comment? It's true, and answers the question.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -6/+8i have watched both and they are different movies
- ElectricGrandpa, on 04/20/2008, -10/+2Sorry, but two movies don't make something "formulaic".
- brufleth, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Saved was much better. It also made more sense (family, friends, etc were more upset about an unexpected pregnancy) and was more entertaining.
- LeeSoong, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Chick Flick.
You are required to watch it,
you are not actually required to truly enjoy it.
Just nod and say,

- exomni, on 04/20/2008, -21/+7No replies and ornerycat is till at 26 diggs.
Spew nonsensical ***** that just looks like it makes just enough sense that ignorant diggers who couldn't appreciate the movie will follow along despite the complete lack of any truth in your post? Check.- krebcycle, on 04/20/2008, -8/+4the movie was stupid, who cares if nobody can come up with another movie like it
- icepick602, on 04/20/2008, -2/+4The point isn't that there is another movie that follows the same plot line, its that the movie is derivative in the sense that the attitudes, language, and music come off overly "independent." I don't think the movie was that bad but this parody script does a pretty good job lampooning its angle.
- ornerycat, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Someone lower down the comment thread listed a good one. Garden State.
Little Miss Sunshine would be another one. Also, Napoleon Dynamite, except that that movie kicks ass.
The main reason I hated this movie was because every attempt at being witty and smart was so transparent. Nothing was truly clever, and very little of it was actually truth.
- Cronikeys, on 04/20/2008, -13/+27The Darjeeling Limited, The Life Aquatic, Little Miss Sunshine, Lost in Translation, Dan in Real Life, Babel, etc.
I like some of these movies... but they are very similar in their differences.- adventchild08, on 04/20/2008, -1/+18One of these things is not like the other.
- HenvY, on 04/20/2008, -6/+4Haha yeah, wtf was Dan in Real Life doing in there.
- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -1/+13Wow. You're doing it wrong. He meant Babel.
- afruff23, on 04/20/2008, -0/+13It was obviously etc.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0350402/ - exomni, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Am I really the only one who caught the sarcasm in HenvY's comment?
- bobcrotch, on 04/20/2008, -3/+30Yeah, it's called a Genre.
- thirteenthcor, on 04/20/2008, -6/+1LMS was ok, LiT sucked, TDL sucked, Babel sucked, Saved! good. Dan in Real life was one of the worst movies ive seen in a LONG time
- bluezinc, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5Because we care so much about your opinion.
- exomni, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1I'm sorry, which of those films has any of this?:
"pervasive indy music."
"painfully transparent quirkiness."
"an irreverent female protagonist sarcastic about 'pork swords' and her 'vag'"
- adventchild08, on 04/20/2008, -1/+18One of these things is not like the other.
- HenvY, on 04/20/2008, -6/+41It's not exactly the same, but Garden State is a great match for it the pretentious indie crap stakes.
- tjmb9, on 04/20/2008, -3/+2Yeah Juno reminds me of Garden State so much. Mostly because way too many people i hate love both of them.
- Canadian0207, on 04/20/2008, -1/+8trust me, there are many movies like it.

- blake_mooney, on 04/20/2008, -6/+8I love all the pathetic pseudo-intellectuals clamoring to defend this pile of trash movie.
- hoghug, on 04/20/2008, -3/+12Versus the too cool for the cool movie hipsters who are so hard-core they can't enjoy a simple comedy? Color me impressed with your awesomeness.
- AKBryant54, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1No one is cool, everyone is a dishonest bastard, and anyone who says otherwise isn't even fooling themselves.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2As a comedy, Juno was kind of boring. Like most other movies in this genre, it's a drama with quirky characters who are meant to be funny. Unlike The Life Aquatic and Lost in Translation, Juno seems really forced. That's all they're saying.
- exomni, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1The Life Aquatic felt both forced and painfully inadequate at the same time.
- hoghug, on 04/20/2008, -3/+12Versus the too cool for the cool movie hipsters who are so hard-core they can't enjoy a simple comedy? Color me impressed with your awesomeness.
- VonBargenJL, on 04/20/2008, -3/+2Hard Candy anyone? with the same 'lead female protagonist' with plenty of awkward silences and ***** indy music.
the whole time in Juno i'm afraid that when she's hanging out with the adoptive father it's going to take a turn into the realm of Hard Candy.
such a great movie - KingGorilla, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Ten Things I hate about you?
- fazerfaze, on 04/20/2008, -23/+15You see all indie films are "different" so they are all the same in that way.
- TheWorm, on 04/20/2008, -18/+46That article summarized everything I hated about Juno. I can't stand things that try so hard to be indie just for the sake of being pretentious and indie.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -11/+9i think it was trying to be funny
- 80hd, on 04/20/2008, -2/+9It's sick when writers get backed into a corner and are asked to create something that has a "Here's how to be unique' undertone.
Mass produced originality. :)
- WallyAnti, on 04/20/2008, -6/+70it is somewhat like the napoleon dynamite type flick, but I think this type of film is refreshingly different from what I am used to seeing lately. I really liked it. I don't know why people hate on indy music getting a shot in film. I think some people feel less special when their social genre becomes more mainstream. Insecurity has something to do with it i think.
- thumperings, on 04/20/2008, -4/+11bingo.
- 80hd, on 04/20/2008, -2/+5Wally.. heres my take on it..
People hate when indi music (or anything 'underground') gets more mainstream play than normal because the 'scene' isn't the scene anymore once the public finds it - which makes about as much sense as being in a race and whining at everybody else to slow down so you can maintain your pride.
AAAGGHHH!!! Every time I discover something new it becomes popular and everybody ruins it!- YellowSnowDemon, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Come on, Mr. Hat! We've got to get back to our flippity-floppity-floop!
- taquitohater, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Nobody goes to the mall anymore, it's too crowded.
- tanveer, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1I don't think that's totally the case here. At least not for me. As much I understand how anything 'indie', all of a sudden becoming 'mainstream' can cause great deal of heartache among its followers - for me what did 'Juno' in was the lack of sincerity. I don't care whether a film 'looks' to be like indie as long as its got the heart, integrity and sincerity to go along with it. All that was all missing to me in 'Juno' (except for may be the last 20 mins), instead you get the forced feel of 'witty one liners' and in your face 'quirkyness' that gets shoved in your faced from scene one, not to mention the excessive, shamelessly use of 'generic indie' music in case you forget what kind of manufactured original film you're watching...
Ellen is a talented actress, but this 'Juno' is in no way deserved the 'hype' it received.
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -20/+68You know, people keep insulting Juno like it was some poor attempt at realism. Of course teens don't talk like that in real life. No one does. That's why the movie was awesome: because the audience got to hear some damn inventive language. I don't know the last time I got to see a movie that played with language that wasn't a Tarantino film.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -16/+2why are people who say "this is a redundant movie. (favorite movie) was different then the standard Hollywood comedy first! why are they trying so hard to be funny outside the Hollywood norm, when it was already done so perfectly", are also the people who say "it's the same jokes as ever movie ever, you should watch (favorite movie), it's the only good movie ever!". it's like they get to define all movies into 3 categories, a few movies they like, movies that are "main stream" and "suck", and movies that are ripoffs of there favorites.
what do those people do watch the same movies 1000 times? only wear t shirts that references those movies while they spend their lives quoting it and pushing it to anyone who will listen as if it was the end all of entertainment experiences ? - BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -5/+14Yes--there is an element of escapism in every movie. But the moment that it becomes implausible (such as the way she continually speaks), it starts to become less enjoyable.
It's an admittedly fine line to walk, but this movie crossed it in that regard.
.- mradules, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Yeah, there were moments where I was too conscious that I was watching a movie...the dialogue prevented me from getting absorbed in the story. Case in point - when Juno's acting way too cool after meeting the couple for the first time. It's like, come on - what adult, let alone teen, is gonna act like that?
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Yeah, tell me about it. Like when the Jedi in Star Wars started using this ***** called "the Force." How goddamn implausible, I turned that ***** off right away because I couldn't enjoy it anymore. Oh, and the star ships. Oh, and the space travel.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Way to make an incoherent cross-genre comparison, jackass. The minute you see a laser gun or a spaceship in the opening scenes of a movie, you know you're not settling in for two hours of "Kramer vs, Kramer."
The filmmaker sets the tone to let you know what to expect. And THIS film took itself a LITTLE too seriously at times.
. - KyleGoetz, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1Fine, BetterOffEd. Your ad hominem proved your point. Also, I think the second someone said "honest to blog" or "your Eggo is preggo" at the beginning of the movie, you knew it wasn't going to be a film about realism. The fact of the matter is that both films very early on reveal that they are not exercises in realism, yet people still bitch about how Juno was so unbelievable.
Beyond that, the fact that you understood what my argument was proves that it was not incoherent, either.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Way to make an incoherent cross-genre comparison, jackass. The minute you see a laser gun or a spaceship in the opening scenes of a movie, you know you're not settling in for two hours of "Kramer vs, Kramer."
- Charlesbian, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4Dont compare this to a tarantino film. the dialogue in those movies wasn't there just for its 'ironic' value, the actors relished those words and they were all believable enough to make the characters all intelligent, real people. Juno's dialogue was something you'd overhear from a philosophy 101 student at a pitchfork music festival (for the record, im not a pitchfork hater, their review of yankee hotel foxtrot was some of the best online text ive read in awhile)
- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -16/+2why are people who say "this is a redundant movie. - OneLess, on 04/20/2008, -24/+12I haven't even seen Juno (and don't plan to), but I've seen enough cliched independent films to digg this. It reminds me of the attitude parodied in one South Park episode: "if you want to be a non-conformist, all you have to do is act just like us".
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -7/+20You basically just said: "I don't know anything about the actual topic at hand, BUT...."
Awesome. We really needed a completely uninformed opinion. Thanks.
.
.- OneLess, on 04/20/2008, -11/+8Oh yes, I sincerely apologize for bringing knowledge of the general topic of the article's satire to the conversation. The next time I hear a stand-up joke about airlines, I'll be sure to raise my hand for clarification on what specific company they're talking about before laughing.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -6/+8The experience of flying on a commercial airline is fairly interchangeable no matter what company it is. Giving an opinion on a movie because you ASSUME that it's LIKE others you've seen is just plain stupid. That's for attempting to give an analogy, but it was a bad one.
- OneLess, on 04/20/2008, -6/+6I was giving an opinion of an ARTICLE because it pointed out themes common in movies that I HAVE seen. I made precisely no value judgments about Juno, if you actually read my original comment. The whole point I was making, in fact, is that the experience of watching these sorts of independent films is fairly interchangeable no matter what movie it is.
- blake_mooney, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3I agree with you wholeheartedly OneLess.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Complete *****. The article is specifically lampooning JUNO---not the independent movie genre in general. How can you possibly Digg the article if you don't GET any of the references?
. - OneLess, on 04/20/2008, -1/+3Oh it is? I suppose independent music is specfic to Juno? And trying-to-hard-to-be-quirky characters? And movies that people pretend to like because they don't want to feel stupid?
***** off, you're just looking to bitch about something, you no longer have any valid criticism of my comments. - BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Hahaha.... I'll gladly "***** off." There's nothing more to say anyway. The number of Diggs speak for themselves.
;-)

- dcollins, on 04/20/2008, -17/+50I liked this movie. I think diggers are just digging this up since they are bitter because this movie reminds them that their high school career was totally asexual and would rather just forget it ever happened.
- thumperings, on 04/20/2008, -7/+2lol precisely Gotta love co mingling with nerds.
- xartion, on 04/20/2008, -2/+28damn that asexual high school career! i now have no child that i am incompletely unable to care for properly. *****!
- Rally603, on 04/20/2008, -0/+6Zing!
- FreakyT, on 04/20/2008, -0/+29I remember all the genetically-identical versions of myself I split into while asexually reproducing in high school. Those were the days...
- benplaut, on 04/20/2008, -2/+4That was great--you win this thread.
- Solis, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2My life continues to be "asexual" many years after high school, yet that has no bearings on why this is a ***** movie
- xlneoMAXlx, on 04/20/2008, -13/+5What a poor attempt at realism. The parents would have beat the ***** out of her, the boy would be depressed and suicidal, and the bitch with the kid inside her would be talking ***** about the boy who knocked her up in school and ruining his life.
- MacEnvy, on 04/20/2008, -0/+9Maybe, but that would have been a pretty ***** movie. In fact, I think that IS the plot of several ***** movies, probably one of which is airing right now on the Lifetime Network.
SPOILER: The boy ends up marrying the girl and physically abusing her several years later. She kills him in (possible) self-defense. I'm pretty sure the mother is played by Meredith BaxterBurney.- str1fe, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Dugg solely for the Lifetime comment

- Volaitle86, on 04/20/2008, -8/+1***** Saved!
- DharmaTurtle, on 04/20/2008, -2/+27oh god. Are people taking Juno seriously again? Leave it to humans to take a comedy and fight over it...
Yes. It was ridiculously proindie and yes, Ellen Page played a completely non typical teenager. But would it have been even 10% as interesting and entertaining if she did play a teary-eyed sobster? No. Movies are entertainment, above all else.
So let's just enjoy the movie, and take it as seriously as you did Napoleon Dynamite.- upthywazzoo, on 04/20/2008, -4/+0But Juno MacGuff is oppressively quirky.
If she were quirky AND teary-eyed, then that would be comedic as well as a true test of Ellen Page's acting ability.- DharmaTurtle, on 04/20/2008, -5/+2You know what's quirky? 2001.
Thats right. I just brought that up. What now? - DharmaTurtle, on 04/20/2008, -3/+3but in all seriousness, I guess you could see this as a movie about the human spirit. We persevere.
Did Napoleon get all sad and depressed when only he was the only person supporting Pedro? No, he became even more weird. Did Juno swamp everyone with tears? No, she just became even more weird. - brufleth, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3"movie about the human spirit"
No, not at all.
- DharmaTurtle, on 04/20/2008, -5/+2You know what's quirky? 2001.
- mustbepatient, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I suppose I did know some eloquent teenagers when I was growing up, but the dialog didn't seem *that* crazy to me.
In any event, I liked Juno quite a bit but didn't care for Napoleon Dynamite at all, so I'm not sure why they are lumped together.
- upthywazzoo, on 04/20/2008, -4/+0But Juno MacGuff is oppressively quirky.
- Steven8890, on 04/20/2008, -6/+5I thought Juno sucked balls. Just because she got rid of the baby and the father was too much of a pussy to help take care of it.
- daborg, on 04/20/2008, -3/+2I think you suck balls.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
- daborg, on 04/20/2008, -3/+2I think you suck balls.
- hoghug, on 04/20/2008, -4/+6Saved! was a charmless, laughless, gutless chore of a movie. They set it up to make some potentially really barbed commentary on school and religion but then turned it into a watered down, everyone's OK after school special. It's probably the only movie I can remember seeing in the last 5 years that I almost walked out of. Juno, while perhaps a little to overly clever in spots, was at least charming and funny. You want hard core realism? Pick 90 minutes of your life out of any given day and write down everything that happens during that time. See how much fun THAT would be to watch. Oh, and for the record, "whined about how clever other people are" doesn't count.
That little mini screenplay had "bitter wanna-be screenwriter" written all over it. - silfiriel, on 04/20/2008, -4/+5Nice text, funny, but that's all. Juno is what it is: independent, quirky, hip and intelligent, new and non-cliche.
What would you rather watch, Knocked Up??? Now that's a sucky pregnant movie...- Charlesbian, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2when jennifer garner held her ear to ellen page's stomach was a really beautiful scene. the majority of the rest of the movie was trying wayyyyyyy too hard.
at least knocked up was honest to what it was- silfiriel, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2And I guess trying to hard is a problem? They should've make a movie out of the screenplay of another, with different names, so tat it would be easier to make it so that people would know what would happen, and get mushy on scenes seen thousands of times
- Charlesbian, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2when jennifer garner held her ear to ellen page's stomach was a really beautiful scene. the majority of the rest of the movie was trying wayyyyyyy too hard.
- Shakermaker, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Wow.
Based on that comment, I would HATE to see your movie collection. - ChrisLondon, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4Why, when an independent film is released, does everyone insist on using words like 'quirky' and 'pervasive'. 99% of films that come out of the United States are jumped up *****. Juno is an excellent screenplay that gives us a wonderful insight into how the world is today. I rate Juno up there with American Beauty as one of the best and most honest films to come out of the USA in years.
- Thumper13, on 04/19/2008, -74/+16Must be sad for you that you've never known a chick like Juno.
- wontstoptalking, on 04/19/2008, -15/+511But can she fit in a rowboat? Can she fit in an average size rowboat without capsizing? Answer the question, Phyllis!
- Soave, on 04/19/2008, -10/+139Completely irrelevant, but I love The Office, so dugg.
- thefirstenemy, on 04/20/2008, -2/+41It bothers me you haven't answered the question.
- brownsound00, on 04/20/2008, -0/+21Michael, what are you trying to say?
- MacEnvy, on 04/20/2008, -0/+21OKAY! No, she can't fit in a rowboat!

- Anthropoid, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1Well, it is a movie about a pregnant girl...
- clearwaterlab, on 04/20/2008, -0/+14I don't you think you realize that The Office is ALWAYS relevant.

- bean, on 04/20/2008, -5/+54Incompletely irrelevant, because Juno has Dwight.
- stickman0287, on 04/20/2008, -1/+14but dwight isnt even in that quote. so back to completely irrelevant.
- Cronikeys, on 04/20/2008, -1/+28Juno pulls her car off the road right by a rowboat. So back to relevant! Also, Phyllis was a board member at the Bluth company, and the actors who played Michael Bluth and George Michael Bluth Jr. were in the film. Also, Kevin Malone's actor is in Arrested Development as the guy who sells Tobias the gun he shoots Lindsay with.
- chinolofus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+10when does kevin bacon come into this equation?
- lisaawesome, on 04/20/2008, -0/+7Also, Andrew Bernard (Ed Helms) from The Office makes an appearance in Arrested Development. He was a real estate agent that Lindsay thought was trying to pick her up when he came to look at the house. I watch too much tv apparently.
- Icebox3, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4The guy who plays Darryl, down in the warehouse, was in an episode of Arrested Development as a studio guard.

- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -9/+11have you watched? do you know people have different tastes then you? even if you hate it people could have liked it. People really don't lie about liking a movie, as most of them don't feel deeply ashamed about watching a bad movie to try to cover it up.
- killbert24, on 04/19/2008, -47/+27Haha! Its great because its true. Nobody talks like the people in that movie.
- iPirate, on 04/19/2008, -6/+52Did you say that after you watched A Clockwork Orange too?
- HenvY, on 04/19/2008, -11/+10ACO orange wasn't about supposedly normal people, and it unlike Juno, it required a degree of suspension of disbelief.
- oddtom, on 04/19/2008, -1/+6Given the crotch-hugging, white spandex outfits the "gang" members were wearing? Bet your ass it required a massive ***** suspension of disbelief.
- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -2/+34Are you comparing A Clockwork Orange and Juno? Really?
- exomni, on 04/20/2008, -2/+15No, he's comparing the Nadsat to Juno-speak. More specifically, how "unrealistic" unique vocabulary that "nobody really uses" is not in any way a hindrance to good movies.
- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3But ACO wasn't meant to be realistic. In Juno, the language was supposed to make the characters look like real people. That's what I got from it, anyway.

Maybe it's a pacific northwest thing?- fazerfaze, on 04/20/2008, -0/+19I'm from the pacific northwest and no one i know talks like that. Its actually a self-satisfied local music listening scene kid thing
- Gir53457, on 04/20/2008, -1/+8I say "dude" and "sweet" a lot, but the whole valley girl stereotype is load of *****, I live in San Jose down the Street from the Ebay headquarters and everybody here has a Mexican or Vietnamese accent.
- krebcycle, on 04/20/2008, -1/+6i'm a 5th generation seattleite and i'm pretty sure i don't know a damn person who talks like that
- thumperings, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3She prolly brought a bit of it from her own speak. She's Canadian I believe. and I've heard tons of girls talk like her in Vermont.
- Niightwitch, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9One thing I know - people are using the words "shenanigans" much more frequently.

- siszam, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4My sons girlfriend talks like Juno and we're in California. I liked the movie because Juno's smartass but likable attitude was right on.

- fjeirsou, on 04/19/2008, -3/+25No, I hear a lot of people talk like that in my school/town. A lot of the so-called "Indie" chicks. So the dialogue was pretty accurate for the character.
- Chirp08, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4yeah but none of them had a best friend as hot as Juno's :|

- Epik, on 04/20/2008, -2/+5Obviously there will be people who talk like that but it wouldn't be every single person the main character meets. Oh, unless it's in a MOVIE.

*Lets dogs out* - quasipolymath, on 04/20/2008, -5/+5Unfortunately the writer, Diablo Cody, is 28 years old, not middle aged. I don't think that it was her lack of touch so much as her desire to write a screenplay with realistically quirky dialog. That appeared to fail.
- cor315, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Depends on what you mean by fail. If you mean that it failed because you didn't like it, Ok. But I don't really agree that she or the world would have thought that it failed since (so far) it's made 142 million dollars in that box office and has had plenty of oscar nominations...

I hear people all the time using out of style or bizzare words just for fun or emphasis. People commonly use 'for shizz' and whatever the hell else just because we know it sounds dumb, but what the hell?
- wtfmate112, on 04/19/2008, -22/+8That's true but... She talked that way for the whole damn movie. No sixteen year old talks like that. Thats why its a movie because they exaggerate. Oh and I love Firefox's spell checker.

- UbIwerks, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2But when it's over used it sounds like the Gilmore Girls. Augh.
- elfuego, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4The beef I had with the movie, and that's not to say I didn't enjoy it -- I did -- is that every word, every line, consists of the words we use on occasion when we want to sound clever or trendy. It's the stuff we say while in the back of our heads we're thinking, this is going to sound so great when I blog it later. And it's not surprising, then, that Diablo Cody is/was a blogger... but every single line in that movie, pretty much, was the characters trying to verbally one-up and outquirk one another. And I don't think it's terribly realistic if you're trying to create a number of different characters all of whom share the same voice.
- volacide, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3Too true. This whole thing reminds me of the Dane Cook phase a bit. I like Dane Cook, he's a funny dude for sure. But for a while everyone was acting like he was the best thing ever, then there were the people that acted like he was the worst comedian ever just because they couldn't stand his sudden popularity. I was stuck in the middle enjoying his comedy but not going to either extremes.
Why can't people just simply enjoy things and not read into them so much. I'm not saying you have to enjoy everything but why bother getting all beside yourself about it.

- sherifftruman, on 04/20/2008, -14/+6As someone who has no problem with quirky indie films, but didn't like Juno, the problem isn't that Juno is quirky, but that it's all quirky without being funny. Just because a movie is quirky doesn't mean it's good.

- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -7/+3This movie was real and entertaining. There's a difference between being completely realistic and being real. The characters in this movie were real. They were believable, true to life characters. And the film showed how these real characters dealt with the situation in a way that was equally believable and entertaining. That's a good movie.
- Sawta, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Which would be a true statement, if the main character wasn't Ellen ***** Page.
The only thing that makes me cringe more than someone who is trying to act intellectual in a movie that doesn't call for it, is when an actor or actress genuinely starts to /believe/ in their brilliance.

- digitalarcanum, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1movie was misleading. I wasn't expecting all the quirky *****. I was expecting SRS BSNS, mixed in with some comedy. Not Napoleon Dynamite meets Saved! minus any sort of comedy plus a lot of useless Dynamite-esque quirkiness.
- Phyraxus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5Actually, where I'm from, they showed commercials for it that concerned primarily of Micheal Cera with a narration that said he'd have to suck it up for knocking some chick up. They also showed the scene where he was making fun of that stinkface chick to make you assume he'd be telling all the jokes. They totally tried to hype it up at superbad's expense.
- kidcodea, on 04/20/2008, -22/+24they complain because it was great. jocks cant really understand nerds, so they fear their sucess even in a movie format.

- Mike89, on 04/20/2008, -5/+4I was upset at the end of the movie that he didn't tap it. Hopefully there's a sequel where he DOES tap it. And hopefully an Arrested Development movie comes out. If only I were a holy man.
- ShoulderKnight, on 04/20/2008, -2/+7This scene ruined the movie completely. It was forced to make Jason Bateman look like a sleazeball. How else would the viewer accept psycho bitch Gardner as the mom? Horribly, lazy character twist.
- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -1/+7If you'd have actually paid attention to the movie you could see that scene coming from a mile away.
- ComeOutSwingin, on 04/20/2008, -1/+7Yeah, like when Juno comes home and her mom is telling her its not ok to hang out with an older, married man.
- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -1/+7If you'd have actually paid attention to the movie you could see that scene coming from a mile away.

- DeviateSeptum, on 04/19/2008, -22/+43Was I the only one that wanted to see Juno and the Jason Bateman character get together? I thought Jason Bateman was the best part of that movie.
- tidu, on 04/19/2008, -7/+7That's what I was worried about...
- brokencode, on 04/20/2008, -8/+7The movie went downhill after he left.
- Smalldude76, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4You mean finished?

- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -1/+48Um... Yes, I was absolutely rooting for a hookup between a middle aged man and a 16 year old pregnant girl. Fo shizz.
- BloodWenis, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9You're in luck! Watch her (Ellen Page) in Hard Candy and all your dreams will come true!
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -2/+2It would have been an interesting turn; dunno where the movie would have gone after that though.
- Cagnazzo82, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Probably straight to Fox News I'd imagine...
- jbarket, on 04/20/2008, -1/+7Not really. I felt like he was a tacked on plot device with a face.
His purpose was to illustrate that the "hip 30 year old graphic designer with a cool Asian girlfriend" Juno wants to give her baby to is actually a tool. That could have easily been expressed without Juno ever being on the screen, let alone having some twisted romantic ***** thing _that she nurtures_ go on.
Skirt and makeup for Jason Bateman, that gets torn off when she goes back to see Michael Cera. - Mike89, on 04/20/2008, -2/+2Nope, I did. I can't believe they didn't. It would've finished the movie a lot cooler (and more ***** up)
- logiksan, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1I'm never letting my kids on the internet. I'll be damned if I let them be exposed to sick, kiddie diddling freaks. See Ellen Page's earlier movie, Hard Candy, to see how sick bastards should be treated.
- cor315, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3It's a lot easier to teach them the difference between right and wrong then to hide them from the things you don't want them to see. - YellowSnowDemon, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Desire to use the internet leads to exposure to 4chan. Just let them use it.

- lukas88, on 04/19/2008, -17/+6I agree with the article that some of the movie's quirkiness was formulaic and overdone, but they could have made that point with just the first scene. The author ends up coming off as more of an ass than whoever came up with the term "pork swords."
- fatb0y42, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2its making fun of the movie dumbass
- redchina, on 04/19/2008, -10/+26This must have been the actual screenplay they used.
- theawesomeness, on 04/20/2008, -9/+2I agree, since it is about as humorous as the actual film...not at all.
- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1You both seem to not realize that if they had used that screenplay *for the film*...then they would have said all that stuff *in the film.* Screenplay = script dumbasses.
- insomniac8400, on 04/19/2008, -18/+144Unfortunately, this summary is still way too long.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4I was just going to read a couple of lines and close out of it, but I just kept reading because it was so hilarious (even though I liked the movie).
- msk275, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3straight up. I love Juno. Period.
- lharrod, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Here's a summary of the summary: "Oh, a new indie film named Juno, I'll check it out... it's pretty cool... wait, now it's getting popular... I changed my mind, the movie wasn't good... wait, now people are talking about it a lot... now I think that movie sucks... wait, what? now it's getting awards??... arrghh! I *****' hate that movie!... I'm going on the internet and tell everyone how much I hate it, to show that I'm not a conformist! I'm cool and hip and different!"
- EatingPie, on 04/19/2008, -34/+19Very funny fakey "script." But I don't understand why that suddenly makes Juno "lame." Juno was a great movie, and NOT formulaic. (Case in point: Indy movies always have depressing endings.)
And the stupid comments about "Adults conquering the language of the young." A lot of the "young language" I hear today was exactly the same I heard in High School. Clothes aren't the only things that go retro.
-Pie- all_about_the_D, on 04/20/2008, -3/+10alot of people didn't like the movie because of how ridiculous the dialog was in that movie. Between the 16 year-old kids, middle age couple and Juno's parents every single person talked exactly the same in the movie! Any movie winning a best screenplay oscar on the backs of such phrases as "honest to blog" "fo' shizz up the spout"...well ***** man, where's my oscar? I hate being ranty and bash people, especially on the internets, but this movie was just okay and not that special.
- vervalsing, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1That comment was so annoying it literally made my brain hurt.

- Serris, on 04/20/2008, -2/+11There was a backlash before Cracked, but it's the same thing. It's cool to hate things people like. If there hadn't been such high praise at first, this fake script would never have been written.
- str1fe, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4And such is the nature of digg.
- DubiousDrewski, on 04/19/2008, -3/+61Yes! Why is this way of thinking so pervasive? A buddy of mine is like that. He refuses to like any piece of art (Music, movies, books) if he finds out that it's well-liked by others. Where does this fear come from?

- yohnstoppable, on 04/20/2008, -7/+16There are very few things a group of people in a demographic as vague as "the internet" will ever agree on. Things that are more popular have more haters, because more people hear about it... hence more people don't like it.
This whole "you don't like it cause it's popular!" excuse is always used, because no one can comprehend the fact that others have different tastes. Also, people who don't like something tend to get more vocal when they are tired of hearing about something they already don't like- SpeedSteamBoat, on 04/20/2008, -2/+11No, you are wrong. I've met plenty of people who really liked something until it got popular and then hated it for no apparent reason other than its popularity. Hipsters want so bad to be "counter-culture" and think for themselves that they end up being the lamest sheep of all. They let people choose what NOT to like for them. They listen to ***** obscure bands and look down on anyone who likes anything with a fan base bigger than they could pack into their basement. Honestly, what's more plausible? That someone would just LOVE all of this music and ***** that no one has heard of for the thing itself and consistently have a sudden change of heart about it right at the same time it gains wide-spread popularity, or that hipsters are really just massive counter-culture snobs who derive their self worth from how "different" and "zany" everything they do and like is?
One things for sure, everyone I've met like that has been a massive attention whoring tool. That people like that only like things other people don't should come as no big surprise.- Sawta, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Isn't that your own fault for hanging around hipsters?
- Smalldude76, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2A lot of it has to do with the band wagon. Remember that Ron Paul ***** and how all negative comments were dugg down? If people can delude themselves into thinking they are a part of something they'll be happy whether it's sponsoring a hopeless politician or trolling a popular movie.
- Wugie, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1'This whole "you don't like it cause it's popular!" excuse is always used, because no one can comprehend the fact that others have different tastes.'
Wrong. This article comes from someone who doesn't understand that people may just have different tastes.
'EVERYONE convinces themselves they loved the movie so that they don't feel STUPID'
That sentence does not come from someone who understand differences in taste, it comes from someone who proves my point.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 04/20/2008, -2/+11No, you are wrong. I've met plenty of people who really liked something until it got popular and then hated it for no apparent reason other than its popularity. - Sawta, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Not really. It was defiantly more so, back in the days of when there would be more tech stories then "top 10 best lists EVER!". Now it's more of an early morning radio show "HEY GUYS! Digg this...FOR GREAT JUSTICE! *honk honk*"
- volacide, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1Except Nine Inch Nails. Then you can ***** right off, but for good reason, they're (he's) amazing.

- deysman, on 04/19/2008, -19/+7but will she blend?
- mkling176, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4NO! SHE WONT ***** BLEND!!
- boing11, on 04/19/2008, -56/+111Wow, seeing this make the front page of digg, and hearing that other people hated this movie makes me feel strangely vindicated. I HATED this movie from the first time I saw it, and seriously had to force myself through watching the whole thing.
The whole time watching it, I kept trying to figure out what all the hype was about. As someone who's been through this (a teen pregnancy), the entire movie was ***** ... from the fake reactions of her parents, to the romanticized take on the seemingly inconsequential after affect of such an event, the entire movie was a giant pile of *****. I don't care how emo or quirky you were, NOBODY would react to being a pregnant teenager like the characters in this movie did - and maybe that's what annoyed me so bad, is that everyone kept telling me how good it was because of how well they handled it. Uh ... no *****! It's a movie ..........
/rant off- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -17/+33So I'm not the only one? I saw the film with some friends, and we sat there silently through the movie. Then it ended. We walked out of the theater, through the parking lot, and into the car. At this point, someone said, "that was kinda boring. Who wants to go to White Castle?" And that was the extent of the discussion.
- Twisted871, on 04/20/2008, -8/+14I feel the same way as both of you, Juno was crap I don't understand why its so popular.
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -13/+6If one of your friends said it was kinda boring, then you already knew you weren't the only one. Nice job, there, Señor Logic.
- deadbaby, on 04/20/2008, -9/+28It doesn't matter how "real people" would react unless you are confusing fiction with non-fiction. It's a movie, it's not real. (those people are just actors, she didn't actually get pregnant in real life)
- defectDS, on 04/20/2008, -4/+1"ARG! I HATED 13 GOING ON 30! It's like, that would never happen in real life! No one would ever be able to instantly become 30 years old! That is the only reason I hated that movie, ARG!"
- LusikkaMage, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1It would have been funny if the girl playing Juno DID get pregnant while shooting, then they could all freak out over that. =P
- RikF, on 04/20/2008, -6/+17Let me let you in on a secret. If you want to see something which more accurately portrays real life.... step outside. Films are (generally, with a few exceptions) heightened versions of reality. They warp the world. They show us things that might have been, that might me, that could be. The best of them open our minds to new possibilities or highlight injustices. You are condemning a film for not seeming like reality? What a strange idea.
- blandrys, on 04/20/2008, -3/+1I think he was condemning the movie cause it was a piece of *****, not necessarily because the acting and scripting weren't "realistic". I liked Star-Wars, but it wasn't realistic.
- xlneoMAXlx, on 04/20/2008, -11/+4Yeah I've been through the situation too and it's NOTHING like the movie.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 04/20/2008, -2/+40I think it's funny how you ended a rant about how unrealistic the movie was with "no *****! it's a movie."
Anyways, are you saying you want to go watch 90 minutes of the reality of what you went through? Honestly? Most people pay to see a movie to escape from reality. I mean, isn't that the point of FICTION.- boing11, on 04/20/2008, -6/+2Just like scottcc said, the movie did try to come off as authentic at times. It was not the tongue in cheek kind of movie about accidental pregnancy like Knocked Up was. They downplayed the consequences, and portrayed a completely false image of what life is really like after teen pregnancy. A lot of people who saw this thought it was a cute, heartfelt story about overcoming an accident like teen pregnancy ... the only problem is, it was a total farce, but taken seriously at times by a lot of people.
- DharmaTurtle, on 04/20/2008, -1/+8Goddamn it! Star Wars is fiction! I hate it so much!

- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -11/+8Thank you so much for posting this comment. This is precisely why I hated it. It wasn't as much the consistent implausibility of her vernacular or the blatant "indieness" of the whole film (while I did hate that too), as it was the misrepresentation of teen pregnancy. I've felt somewhat hesitant to express this opinion since I haven't actually been through that, but to hear that someone who has shares my opinion is at least somewhat comforting.
.- JimbobtheSalesm, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2You people say "indieness" as if it's something that exists and can be seen in a movie.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1I was referring to the repetition of "indie rock" songs, the continued reinforcement of the indie film cliches, etc. that the Cracked article was talking about.

- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4No, but come on... You have to admit that this movie does take itself seriously at times. I mean it wasn't like we were watching "Knocked Up."
.- babbitblob, on 04/20/2008, -5/+1Actually, thats exactly what this felt like. An overly sarcastic, teenage indie version of "Knocked Up".

- Aleman360, on 04/19/2008, -16/+8I liked the movie but throughout it was painfully obvious that the script was written by a blogger.
- PooPsnooP, on 04/19/2008, -4/+28It's weird how I can think this is funny and still really like the movie.
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2No it's not. I've been laughing at Mad Magazine and Cracked and Harvard Lampoon takeoffs of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and other great movies that I love for over a decade.
- doubledmateo, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0Yeah, honestly you can make fun of any movie if you pull it apart and analyze it like they did in that piece. I doesn't show that the movie was bad.
- AppleGeorge, on 04/19/2008, -10/+31This was hilarious, but Juno was a really great film. I don't know if the bashing is just part of the humor, or if a lot of people really disliked it, but it was a great film nonetheless.
- theradical, on 04/19/2008, -25/+18Juno was basically Gilmore Girls the movie.

- 4LeggedtriPod, on 04/20/2008, -5/+1Except Gilmore Girls is gay and not funny. Also Without awesome actors like Page, Cera, Wilson and Bateman.
- AmICoolNow, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3That's the most inaccurate analogy I've heard all day.
- Nhmarine, on 04/19/2008, -10/+13speaking as a teenager, none of the MTV kind of ***** stereotypes fit me or anyone else, but I thought in the movie they were just acknowledging her unique personality. I liked it, sure there was the stupidity of non-normalcy in it, but I thought that was a statement about the characters' individualities.
- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4People bash it because it was incredibly phony. The "characters' individualities," were all incredibly contrived, as were their reactions to a teen pregnancy.
- Lurline, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Unfortunately, I think with the rate which teens are getting pregnant that parents stopped caring and getting upset a loonnngggg time ago.
- pigducksheep, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1you obviously do not live in california...
- Enasni1212, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4People bash it because it was incredibly phony. The "characters' individualities," were all incredibly contrived, as were their reactions to a teen pregnancy.
- exomni, on 04/19/2008, -16/+11I loved Juno, but this was hilarious, dugg.
- sovereign3, on 04/19/2008, -25/+67Why so much hate for the movie? I literally just finished watching the movie for the first time half an hour ago. I thought it was incredibly thoughtful, had a funny and interesting script, and enjoyed the soundtrack for the movie.
Juno is unique among other movies that incorporate hackneyed, cliched scripts and incredibly predictable endings. Say what you will about the dialogue, but I found it to be best part of the movie. Diablo Cody received an Oscar for her screenplay and I can see why. It was creative and funny. I don't see how the movie is formulaic at all.- fdsarawr, on 04/20/2008, -9/+4Holy crap. Her first name is Diablo??? THAT'S AWESOME! I still hate the movie though.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 04/20/2008, -6/+13I agree 100%. People just hate things that other people like. Weird but true.
- defectDS, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Well apparently from the comments, it would appear everyone hated it because it wasn't realistic.
IT'S A MOVIE.
Because all of you apparently want what really would happen if a teenager got pregnant, watch True Life: I'm Pregnant, the only show that lives inside, yet shields itself from the stupidity that is MTV.
- defectDS, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Well apparently from the comments, it would appear everyone hated it because it wasn't realistic.
- themonkmob, on 04/20/2008, -4/+6ummm. Diablos main idea for the movie WAS to make it edgy...this movie is chopped full of crap lingo and dialogue that doesn't need to be there. This is movie just striving to be different and I completely agree with cracked on this one...
- deadbaby, on 04/20/2008, -0/+6"striving to be different"
Those bastards. How DARE they? I have to cut this comment short.. Die Hard 4 is on cable. I'm VERY excited. - sovereign3, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2All I'm saying is that the dialogue was interesting. It takes talent to be able to put together words in such an interesting way. The fact we're even having this sort of discussion is proof. I can't say the same for say, a Spiderman movie-- in which the entirely dialogue AND story is completely ripped from a comic book.
You're not going to tell me you and your friends don't have quirky sayings or words you use to each other. In that sense Juno's script was excellent.- themonkmob, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Yes, but quirky sayings....IN EVERY SENTENCE?!
- doubledmateo, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0you say that as if Cracked was some sort of credible source for movie critiques. It's supposed (and is) to be humerous not some sort of a rant.
- deadbaby, on 04/20/2008, -0/+6"striving to be different"

- doubledmateo, on 04/20/2008, -3/+3Yeah, I really enjoyed this movie too, mainly because it was a happy movie. I think that's the same reason all the indie snobs hate it so much. It's because it paints the picture in a glass is half full kind of way, instead of showing humanity as some sort of painful corrupt thing. That and some people just like to be a part of these fringe groups that hate the 'mainstream' ideals.
- rjc5056, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1No it paints a picture where the glass is not a real world glass at all but a golden, bedazzled fantasy goblet. That's like trying to say people who disagree with what the Bush admin says about how the Iraq war is going are pessimist who don't like their optimistic take on the surge. We actually just don't like people trying to warpr the truth with lies and veneer of charm.
- rjc5056, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3You just steamrolled me with the irony of your one statement! You praised the film for NOT incorporating "hackneyed, cliched scripts" and "predictable endings" when that was the foundation of this movie. The basic plot has been done in Saved, the script itself is chock-full of cliche lines. (Whether or not they are done for the "scene" irony factor is irrelevant.) The ending with Jason Bateman was foreshadowed about halfway into the movie and we all knew Page and Cera were going to be together from the outset because Wally Bleeker was always the "cat's pajamas" or "peachy keen" or "tubular" or some other decade's vernacular for "the height of excellence." So, basically, your argument for this movie holds no water. Good night.
- themonkmob, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Um no. There are two extremes that we are talking about. On one side are the movies chock full of cliches on the other side is indie films trying to be the polar opposite of cliche. In the end, the both fail. In this case, Juno was a film that tried way too hard NOT to be cliche and in the end - failed.
- viewtiful4ever, on 04/19/2008, -27/+35Juno was a good movie.
- Nhmarine, on 04/19/2008, -4/+2I also enjoyed the symbolism of their names
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3What symbolism in their nameS (plural) was there other than Juno being a mother goddess figure in Romany mythology?
- str1fe, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Paul (Paulie) means "small" or "humble" ... though that's the best I could get from any of their names. And even that doesn't fit all that well.
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3What symbolism in their nameS (plural) was there other than Juno being a mother goddess figure in Romany mythology?
- EntropyNine, on 04/19/2008, -13/+34Is it wrong that I loved the movie AND this script?
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -5/+4I'm digging down every one of you who asks that question. It's like you're discovering Mad/Cracked/Harvard Lampoon/The Onion/Texas Travesty for the first time! No, it's not wrong. It's perfectly fine. For example, I loved both Star Wars and Spaceballs.
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2I concur. I like Michael Jackson AND Weird Al.
- Aokitsune, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1I love Spaceballs even more because of Star Wars- the parody wouldn't be as appreciated if I had no idea what Star Wars was.
- isayre020888, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2I think everyone loves Star Wars and Spaceballs.
- corneliusJones, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Spaceballs is retarded. Seriously, go watch it again. It's painfully retarded.
- hansk, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1yogurt and his annoying midgets really ruined the movie
- BetterOffEd, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Yeah. They really should've been pregnant or something.
- hansk, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1id enjoy it more if yogurt and his midgets were pregnant. theyd be having strange cravings, being bitchy and irritable, awesome!
- cleverdiggname, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, were you expecting something deep and thought provoking?
- hansk, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1yogurt and his annoying midgets really ruined the movie
- julianrod, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2I loved Spaceballs, but Star Wars was a so-so parody.
Digg me down.
- corneliusJones, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Nope, it was a good movie and a decent parody/commentary. Yeah, the ***** slang at the beginning turned me off at first, but it was an interesting and entertaining film with some clever dialogue and an alright premise. I wish they'd have done more with Michael Cera, I loved that kid in Arrested Development and Superbad.
- hansk, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2yes it is wrong. you are a monster.
- schizogony, on 04/19/2008, -14/+5Justin Bateman was the only believable part of that movie.
- trav268, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Jason.
- Nitrodist88, on 04/19/2008, -13/+24The article nailed it.
- Merekondigg, on 04/19/2008, -20/+17I deeply loath Juno. Not quite sure why; maybe the insulting stereotypes, maybe the trivialization and disneyfication of something as serious as teen pregnancy, I dunno. But something always felt very off about it. And now I think I understand why a little more.
- babbitblob, on 04/20/2008, -2/+0Because society today is deathly afraid of trivializing everything they can
- themic, on 04/19/2008, -16/+9Stop saying this movie is supposed to look real, that's the beauty of this film, its different and good.
- Lleu, on 04/19/2008, -11/+58Maybe it's cause my wife and I are the same age as the "adult" that wrote this movie (she's 29) but we both really liked this movie. Just because the parents didn't react the most parents would doesn't mean that their reaction was real. Just because most kids in high school don't talk like Juno doesn't mean that no one does.
Remember kids, this is a movie, somethings will be exaggerated and left out. Who cares that Juno and the dad didn't have a scene discussing his support.... he did offer to go to the appointment with her. How about we all just enjoy the movie for what it was and stop over analyzing everything? Or perhaps next we could all bitch about how there's no way there is enough room under Hoover Dam to house Megatron!- krebcycle, on 04/20/2008, -9/+4my wife and I are ten years older than you and we thought the movie was plastic, contrived, and unbelievable
personally i thought it was pro-life propaganda ***** with some creepy crap about an older guy trying to nail a 16 year old pregnant girl- Lleu, on 04/20/2008, -4/+3I'll agree with you about Bateman's character.... wtf was that?! Maybe my wife and I are in the target audience? See Krebcycle, this is a fictional movie. As such you should suspend your belief for a few minutes, stop looking at everything as political in nature, and just enjoy a cute flick with a kick ass sound track.
- krebcycle, on 04/20/2008, -2/+2I watch a lot of movies, I really love movies. Most of them do not appear political at all. I couldn't get over the movie treating this 16 year old girl like she was a complete adult. Pregnancy is a big scary deal the first time through, it would never be treated with such nonchalance by the girl or her family. I just couldn't get over the vast quantity of BS this movie spews. Anyone who has children will know what I'm talking about.
Overall I think it was just a dumb movie aside from that. A little charming at times, but it fell really flat. The story went absolutely nowhere.

- meatstick, on 04/19/2008, -6/+8I waited for the scene with Jason Bateman and Michael Cera but it just never ***** happened. I left the theater sad :(
- hobbitsareneat, on 04/19/2008, -11/+4I loved the movie, but I can still appreciate this. :)
- cl2yp71c, on 04/19/2008, -10/+6One more time I read the word 'quirky', someone's going to get a LOLrus stuck in their rectum.
- slinky317, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Quirky.
- cl2yp71c, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4It wasn't a threat.
T'was a promise.
I'll find you. So will the LOLrus.- hansk, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1twasnt a prmoise. not at all. plus your LOLrus is DEAD.

- solesoul, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2That was a quirky comment
- cl2yp71c, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3You 'n slinky are going down.
Well actually...the LOLrus is going up..you get the point.
- cl2yp71c, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3You 'n slinky are going down.
- slinky317, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2Quirky.
- lastword2, on 04/20/2008, -6/+43I remember the time when Indie meant "No Studio Support" like El Mariachi or something. Now Indie is a Studio flavor for a "low-budget-movie-with-oscar-pretensions"
- marx2k, on 04/20/2008, -3/+4Indie movies are just studio films with marketing that includes "a sexual awakening", a "special relationship with an older friend that blurs the line of being platonic", "love through molestation" or grainy film. Robert Redford should just author "Sundance: The Manual"
- KyleGoetz, on 04/20/2008, -3/+2What is your definition of "studio," then? Only the Big 5? The way films are produced nowadays, terms like "indie" and "studio film" are outdated. For example, a film that I /know/ was indie (Better Luck Tomorrow) because I met the director, who produced the film on his own credit card debt, has FIVE PRODUCTION COMPANIES attached to it on IMDB (including MTV Films).
- FordSVT1, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Why in hell are you being dugg down for stating a fact?
Diggers are idiots. Capital "I".
- FordSVT1, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Why in hell are you being dugg down for stating a fact?
- FvckingFvck, on 04/20/2008, -11/+0tl; dr
- Zlorp, on 04/20/2008, -11/+9im sure dissing on this movie hurt the egos of 2/3's of this sites visitors
- GhostyBoy, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1Yes because video game fiends, atheists and pot-smokers are all going to flock to some gay movie that I've never even heard of.
- doubledmateo, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Isn't that the point of Digg?
- InnerRayg, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4I know it hurt my feelings to know that somebody out there dislike a movie I enjoyed. I mean, by God's, how can I ever explain something like that? Everyone knows different tastes do not exist.
- elby101, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0pretty much
- Fuzi, on 04/20/2008, -12/+30I enjoyed Juno... it was a entertaining movie...
everyone complaining it's trying to hard... this movie would have been really boring if it used "typical" everyday dialog- millenniumjules, on 04/20/2008, -5/+1yeah.. but it is still boooring..
- hepalien, on 04/20/2008, -2/+0The complaint isn't that it should be more "typical" but less self-consciously hip. There is such thing as a movie that can use language that is not "typical" and also does not make it seem like the writer is trying too hard to impress.
- betteroffalone, on 04/20/2008, -11/+4I love this. Exactly what I thought about the movie. It completely sucked ass. Why am I the only one out of all my friends who thought it was horrible? I want my money and time back.
- murpage, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0hope you're aware that the majority of move theaters give refunds if you leave a theater early due to dissatisfaction with a movie.
- TheGooseyOne, on 04/20/2008, -2/+7So, this guy from The-Editing-Room.com basically watched MadTV and then copied their skit and pasted it onto his website.

Not dugg. - galeninjapan, on 04/20/2008, -9/+1Spot on. Juno was an indie-quirky orgy of *****.
- jeremydouglass, on 04/20/2008, -0/+8are people actually still talking about this?
it's dialogue.
