It's really amazing to see other movies that came years after it, which seemed great at the time but which look like crap now. But jurassic park still looks good.

I want to learn about everything that went right and wrong with their early tests. Did they create strange abominations by accident? What happened before they learned that velociraptors systematically tested the fence? I think it would be a lot of fun to see these questions answered, and it would bring back the "awe" factor.

I mean, it's not like anything happened to the first site, at least in the movie. Why wasn't it just "we're going back to the island to secure it against the corporate dudes".

If you read the books, Isla Nublar was bombed at the very end of Jurassic Park. And (I need to read the second book again), but it explains that Isla Sorna was where the dinosaurs were actually genetically engineered. Then the embryos and eggs are moved to Isla Nublar (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I love the first movie. I had the benefit of seeing it as a kid and NOT reading the book first. After I read the book, then I realized how horrible the movie actually is. But I'm torn between the mangled story in the movie and the visually stunning graphics for the time. It was just awesome to see dinosaurs in a movie that looked like real dinosaurs.

That link goes a review of the supposed script. The summery of the script sounds ridiculous but there's nothing not awesome about the words "dinosaur mercenaries." The only thing that could bring the franchise back is that if it would stop taking itself so seriously.
