The action-thriller, directed by Francis Lawrence opens in theaters on December 14.
I Am Legend is based on Richard Matheson's novel of the same name, but the film will be closer to The Omega Man, the second film adaptation of the novel.

- arcooke, on 10/11/2007, -17/+115Will Smith is an incredible actor. I trust anything he's in to be good, or at the very least, not suck. He's one of the rare musician-gone-actor that actually worked.
- ogremidget, on 10/28/2007, -1/+66Finally, a movie where Will Smith will save the world with a bunch of one-liners.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+66Sooo umm where are the vampires?
- caution, on 10/23/2007, -11/+63Will Smith? So we can expect lots of jive and one liners? I hope they can work in "I make this look good." White people love that.
- navster15, on 10/28/2007, -7/+55*punches an alien*
"Welcome to earth!"
Best. Will Smith Line. Ever. - gunslinger37, on 10/24/2007, -2/+47is it just me or does that scene when he is driving through the empty streets in the red car look like a racing game...
- herrshuster, on 10/11/2007, -8/+49@xcbxcb (#7093179)
loved both - jgtg32a, on 10/11/2007, -7/+36@xcbxcb
Independence day rocked I don't know what you are talking about
I, Robot wasn't good but the robot Sonny fights like an absolute bad ass, watch it again seriously - tonich03, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29This trailer just screams 28 days later...I love it.
- Rikushix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30That is sweet. I'd like to see how they do the whole "only living person in New York" kind of thing. I thought the first ten minutes of 28 Days Later, around an empty London, was some of the best cinematography ever.
- tonich03, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Welcome to Hollywood. We don't give a **** about source material.
- numeka, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24I'll watch Will Smith paint a house.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -1/+22Vampire apocalypse cliche? What world do you live in?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22I bet you when he finds out he's the last man on earth he says
"Oh HELL NAW!" - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20plus it was a nice opportunity for product placement - you just know Ford wants to be known as the car to buy if you need to escape post apocalyptic vampire zombies
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19It is supposed to be set in the near future. So hooray for consistency in the plot. = )
- FlyinWhee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Too bad the "theme from Requiem for a Dream" is actually a piece by Mozart. Which would technically make even Requiem a ripoff.
- Morphinity, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19This movie looks fantastic. A truly intriguing story line.
Was I the only one who noticed the gas prices in that trailer? $6.63 a gallon (See for yourself at 1:12 in the trailer) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20@ASSHO
** Spoiler warning you ***** fag. ** ^ - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16yes, but the original book omega man was based on was called I Am Legend
- aoneal417, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16First aliens, then robots, now vampires... what can't Will Smith save the world from.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15If you had your pick of cars from around all of New York, you'd probably pick the fastest one to get away from the vampires.
- NymphoChik, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13If Martin Lawrence pops up and says, "This ***** just got real"...then I'll be there opening day.
- Dabisu, on 10/24/2007, -1/+11Forget Omega Man, read the book.
- wallish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I've always liked: "JIMMY NOOOOO!!!"
Go ahead, yell it out loud, it works for any situation involving failure. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8> "Is there any "action" parts in the trailer? The only "action"-y scene is him driving in the car. Down a straight road."
One of the bridges in New York City gets blown up... - jgtg32a, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10@andrewsmith1986
Will Smith is good but he's no Charlton Heston - katovar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Also the 1964 Vincent Price movie, The Last Man on Earth. They changed the names but it's the same story based on the Richard Matheson novel. I can't wait.
- pigsbladder, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9dude, most people don't care about the real thing they just want to be entertained
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9It actually looked like a direct rip of the ferry scene in Cruise's "War Of The Worlds".
- LurkerLinux, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7He's in a Mustang because Heston drove one in "Omega Man". I bet he drives it through a show room floor too.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+8You know, I just watched the trailor, and it looks like they're taking a more serious approach to it. Hopefully the writers don't feel the need to make it "hip" and throw in stupid one-liners. Anyways, I think Smith is capable of doing a good job.
- gnslngr1919, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Is there any "action" parts in the trailer? The only "action"-y scene is him driving in the car. Down a straight road.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I saw the HD trailer, and I noticed little CGI, and none of it looked fake.
- gnslngr1919, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I think that's kinda the point.
- silenceHR, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7another great SF story that's willsmithed .... i can't wait for Dune or Foundation starring Will Smith ...
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7After all this time I never believed it would actually get made. Not sure about Will Smith as Neville but I will keep an open mind. At this point it is going to have too much of a 28 Days Later vibe though
- xkrwlng, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6that's a Dianoga. You know, from Star Wars? The trash compactor monster?
Will Smith fights a dianoga vampire monster! - djspanky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6This looks awesome. Finally a Will Smith movie where he doesn't have a wife and a kid and there is danger coming... oh wait..
- Mc_Carter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Why is this set in NY wasn't the book set in LA?
- Boondoggle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8@xcbxcb::
You sound like one of those guys who say "cinema" like "enema" and you enjoyed it. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5it's a "teaser"
- calenti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm sure a lot of this is in the Wikipedia entry but my biggest problem with this is Will Smith himself. Not that he's a bad actor, he's not. It's just that this material was written by Matheson to be bleak and ultimately futile, savoring today's victory and ignoring the certain defeat that's approaching. Neville is supposed to be in a hopeless position and struggles mightily against the night, but eventually civilization succumbs to entropy, the center cannot hold and the world is overcome by darkness. Smith just doesn't do those kind of movies so we will get some motivation (oh, my child! oh, my bridge!), followed by a little darkness, followed by a montage, followed by everyone walking out of the sunrise carrying children and smoking cigars.
I did read the novel and Omega Man changed a lot of stuff but it got the tone right. The thing that was and is most enduring about Hesty's early 70s sci-fi dystopia phase is that those movies (and the stories that they were based on) were so unforgivingly pessimistic about the human condition - that we not only would wind up loosing mere anarchy upon the world but that we -have- to, it's a biological imperative and the damage is permanent, not temporary consequences easily handled with a Ford Mustang and a golden retriever. The world is the fox and we are the scorpion.
Like I said, Smith's not a bad actor at all and I enjoy most of his movies. His presence just a sign that this story has been big budget-ized and will likely be dissatisfyingly conventional, in the same manner as the 1997 version of "Vanishing Point" was from the original. I hate sounding like an Ain't It Cool News GFB grand mal rant but the combination of many grubby studio hands (likely including Smith's own) plus the expense of the film and associated need to distill the message down to something suitable for a Burger King cup, will combine in ham-handed attempts to make the story more 'accessible' by removing the tougher dramatic elements in favor of a more traditional narrative arc. Our world no longer has room for anti-heroes.
And...this was originally aimed at the Ahnald before California fell for Enron's propaganda and kicked out Gray Davis. Tidbit from the web: I used to read the Ask A Linguist lists and I saw a post from Mark Russovinich (I think that was his name) back in 1998 or so talking about writing this movie, and asking linguists for feedback on ideas about how and what of a tribal group of devolved humans would use for communication. The idea was that they had -had- language and hadn't lost the physical equipment but no longer had the higher brain function necessary for complex symbology , and so instead of just jumping up and down and grunting or the obligatory movie growl, Mark wanted to know what their communication pattern might look like. It was interesting stuff. - manbear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@cyranthus It is called a teaser, get over it.
- gwinerreniwg, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Is this a remake of Omega Man?
- Bega, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7what exactly am I looking at, besides a dark semi-brown blur?
- MrLunar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5@cyranthus: "how the hell do you see 28 days from this completely ambiguous trailer!?"
I can only assume by your ignorance that you have not seen 28 Days Later. -
