- Wildthing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Well, seeing as how this is digg, a user moderated site, why are you complaining? A lot of people here like Serenity/Firefly. Deal with it, ignore it, or go somewhere where you have more control than a single +digg.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I enjoyed Firefly more than Serenity myself.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I never saw Firefly but enjoyed Serenity.
- Eric.S.Smith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one who thought that the "bounce, bounce, bounce" crash landing was one of the weaker effects shots in the movie? Seeing how much work went into shooting it, I'm sorry to say that I didn't find it terribly convincing.
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aw... I thought it was a story about how the studio set the movie up for failure by crappy marketing. That would have been worth a digg.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well that'd be when all the smart people leave digg and people who aren't smart enough to understand the complex characters in Firefly/Serenity like yourself don't leave.
- TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to get to the front page on digg all you need is one of the following words/acronyms:
CSS, AJAX, Serenity, Apple, Kevin Rose, Photoshop tutorial, Google, TechTV - AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Well, another Serenity story makes the front page."
Serenity is the new Apple :P - GamblerZG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, that the movie is cheap, overhyped and is mostly made of second-hand ideas.
- duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The Movie Rocked. It didnt do good in the theater because universal did a TERRIBLE job of advertising it.
+Digg - cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That's another good point. They put things together on a limited budget of about 40 million. 40 million is the figure that has been published. But if you listen the way the special effects team talk, you start to wonder if that was just what was budgeted. The real figure may actually be less. I think a paramount executive said once, "Joss always comes in under budget".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, another Serenity story makes the front page.
That will make the haters so very happy. - cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't see where you're coming from Senescence. Why did you think the movie was god awful terrible. And perhaps some insight into your definition of god awful terrible may be appropriate. For example was it worse than the Fantastic Four? History of Violence? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire? Dukes of Hazard?
How does it compare to other movies you've seen? - cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Wait... Star Trek didn't have W-list actors?
- cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, expectation is everything. I saw the TV series and liked it. I expected much of that same, and was quite pleased with the movie and script.
and if you think serenity dragged on you might want to think twice about Goblet of Fire. - Senescence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's cool Cosmic, I just expected more of it really. Most of the actors were terrible save for the main guy, and there were too many parts that just dragged on (probably bad grammar). Anyways, it just didn't do it for me, maybe it was because so many fan-boys talked it up, and maybe it was because I hated the actors...who knows.
Even though the black dude was pretty badass, its certainly not something Id watch again though. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3
+Digg because I'm a browncoat. - kill3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i just got a 1GB aww :(
- pyrox420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I enjoyed the movie a great deal. I bought the box set the day I saw the movie. Sure i like science fiction.... but my wife, on the other hand, even liked it. She's the most anti scifi/fantasy person ever! Gg Joss. +digg
"You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with until you understand who's in ruttin' command here". - Jayne - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That movie ruled.
River kicks much ass. - xcanadian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4It's very reasonable that many of you didn't like Firefly and Serenity. You see, it's entertainment meant for intelligent people.
- Claymore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1there are some angry people on this site...
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dang it (spoilers)! I haven't seen the movie. Only saw Firefly TV series. :(
- cheesetoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0More Serenity for the front page:
http://digg.com/movies/Universal_Announces_Serenity_on_HD-DVD
Serenity on HD-DVD - ConorKiley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really liked the movie. I also really liked the episodes of the show. I really hated the militant fans though. I hated the fans more than I liked the show.
There is a difference between promoting something and forcing it on people. Push anything too hard and the merits of what is being forced stop having any meaning. It becomes more a cult to be resisted.
Firefly and the movie Serenity are well worth checking out, but the screwed up fanatics deserve a hard kick in the rear for being overall jackasses. - bradyjfrey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The series was great, the girlfriend and I killed it off in a couples weeks -- I second that they didn't market it well enough, I never even heard of it before Serenity! They better change their minds, come out with more, and sell it properly.
- sLydE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1thanks for the front page spoiler...ass
anyway, I do own the firefly box set and serenity, but I decided to watch the series first. - dmoffitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0vfxblog seems very impressive! - great article.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yea, the bouncing was weak, but I was still sad, and this was BEFORE the thing with Wash. Book was already gone, and then Wheadon killed Serenity. I'm thinking "Wheadon, YOU BASTARD! How could you kill her!!"
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really enjoyed the movie. It was an excellent Sci-Fi. Looking forward to watching the series on DVD
- Veloxi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Awesome stuff. That part of the movie made me cringe.
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0very nice
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Serenity is awesome. I think the lack of marketing and bad name for an action movie failed it.
Only shot I didn't like in the movie was one mentioned in the blog "The Maya model and animation was done by Andrew Tucker". Damn you, Andrew, for your ugly model and pan down to Mr. Uni's place. I felt like I was looking at an XBOX CGI sequence. - deml247, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Crashed Serenity? What? I'm only on the third disc of the Firefly series and haven't seen the movie yet! I'm ruined.
- greensky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1brhad56... I enjoyed Firefly more than Serenity as well, but I still liked the movie. The TV series just had more depth than the movie and wasn't nearly as rushed.
- SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Digg for firefly.
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You know, one story about Serenity/Firefly every week or so is not really that excessive. Go back to digging your precious AJAX stories.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dude, your n00bgone script needs to be tweeked to allow WHOLE categories to be ignored, also.
That would be sweet! - driftwolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It is interesting how they did that with real models not CG. I'm a huge fan of Serenity/Firefly.
- chrisluby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pretty cool post, Joss went out of his way to keep the quality level up on his limited budget.
- Maagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm still pissed they killed off Wash
- hotwaterham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"and if you think serenity dragged on you might want to think twice about Goblet of Fire."
Hahahahahaha! - xcanadian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1jeppy said "Well.....your canadian.....I think that says enough......LOL!"
I'll bet you think pro-wrestling is a legitimate sport.
btw- nice use of contractions Mr Smart American Troll... - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I loved the movie and I loved the special effects!
Diggidy Diggidy Diggidy Digg! - screwball, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Haha, all of you guys dissing Firefly/Serenity needs to learn how to troll better. You make it WAY to obvious that you're just trying to get a rise out of other people. Bunch of weak asses.
- cosmicdreams, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I saw Battlefield Earth in the theater. I'd have to disagree. At least Serenity had an ending. Battlefield earth ended in like the 3/5 of the story.
You still haven't given any basis on which we can decide if we should listen to your opinion or not.
Relatively, Serenity was one of ton 10 movies of the year (in quality). And if you consider that given the odds of successfully producing a movie based on a failed TV series, I think that's quite an accomplishment. - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0That whole sequence ripped off Revenge of the Sith's crash. And that's just one example of how much of a second rate rip off Serenity was.
- Jeppy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Ok...you got me....but the show and movie did suck sweaty donkey balls......
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Serinity is HORRIBLE. It's like Star Trek, but instead cast with pathetic W-list actors.
- MikeF74, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Hello? Spoilers? I'm renting it tonight. I really didn't need to know about its destruction (Assuming crash==destruction)
