- efreeman, on 07/09/2009, -8/+165They can complain all they want, but no one made them wear the "My a--hole is for sitting" shirts.
- FervinsUlterius, on 07/09/2009, -18/+157The bottom line is that the TRUTH is that most southern conservative christians ARE hateful bigots, and it doesn;t matter if they are like that right on the surface or if it takes a wadded up T-shirt to bring it out of them, it is still what they are.
- mmx2000, on 07/09/2009, -1/+124They had $1 beers all night? That seems pretty sweet to me, I wouldn't be complaining.
- asnider, on 07/09/2009, -2/+110The fact that you think Bruno is a good example of how real gay people act means that you're the butt of the joke.
- rocknog, on 07/09/2009, -1/+100So, the defense is that they're normally better about covering up their hatred and animosity? Okay then,.
- Diefree, on 07/09/2009, -6/+103Sorry but don't feel sorry for bigotville when the gay people living there have similiar stories of the town's idiotic bigotry.
- ethanator1088, on 07/09/2009, -3/+98These people are genius. After reading the article, I want to go make my own movie and use the same tactics. :-)
- CB810, on 07/09/2009, -10/+98SBC is one of the most effective humorists of the reality/internet age. Cheers to Ali G/Borat/Bruno...
- MMusick, on 07/09/2009, -8/+93As long as it's funny it doesn't matter one bit to me.
- kirbyriw, on 07/09/2009, -3/+74And especially if the movie makes me feel superior to people portrayed as intolerant hicks, who may indeed be the lowest form of life on the planet.
- freekylaugh, on 07/09/2009, -0/+68or *****
- JFitzpatrick, on 07/09/2009, -4/+72If you've ever been to the southern US, you'd have no reason at all to doubt the film. Whether or not it was staged or carefully engineered is a point of debate sure... but whether or not *those* people were acting out of character, they weren't acting out of character for the thousands of other terribly bigoted and closed minded people I've met.
- 5ean, on 07/09/2009, -1/+64I love the caption under the poster:
"The poster that lured Bruno's victims to a wrestling event in Fort Smith, Arkansas "
The use of "lured" and "victims" makes me laugh inside. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -1/+57Rednecks are so stupid, they think Redneck jokes are a badge of honor.
- chriscim, on 07/09/2009, -5/+57I am so pumped to see this movie.
- benmandude, on 07/09/2009, -5/+51They may have set the stage for a more uproarious situation; but had they done the same thing in a more tolerant community, I highly doubt the people would have acted in the same manner.
- jhandfield, on 07/09/2009, -2/+47You mean a fake documentary isn't real? Say it ain't so!
- EricSchC1, on 07/09/2009, -4/+46Except for the fact that Christianity's not a race. Any adult w/most or all of their faculties can CHOOSE to be Christian or not. Your race is something thrust upon you at birth.
Also, it should be noted that conservative Christians' generalities about homosexuals are not appreciated either, but that doesn't seem to really stop Christians from instigating the impasse. - piznut, on 07/09/2009, -0/+41Its a win-win.
- demonsnake69, on 07/09/2009, -10/+48I'm a little confused here. If I was told that I was going to watch a fighting event, and it turns out to be two dudes making out -- why don't I have the right to be angry? Also, the fact that the participants were drunk as hell definitely alters their normal behavior.
Meh, what's the point of reinforcing the stereotype that people from the South are bigoted? If this was done in New York for instance and homophobia became a crowd reaction, that would be quite an interesting social discussion.
Also, what's with the hatred by calling them all "rednecks" or "hicks." You think you have a right to use slurs all of a sudden? It's not right to use racial slurs or homophobic slurs or anti-religious slurs -- so why is it okay to use a derogatory term towards an entire half of the country? - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -5/+43yeah, my friend's brother has some redneck friends. My group of friends jokes around about gay people and homophobia, but those redneck guys take it seriously.
- publiclurker, on 07/09/2009, -4/+40Wrong, only a certain class of people wear any free ***** given to them.
- analogkid01, on 07/09/2009, -5/+39You seem uncomfortable with this. What's your relationship like with your father?
- bassgoonist, on 07/09/2009, -0/+33They should've seen what happened if some lesbians did the same fight scene...
- Raptor007, on 07/10/2009, -5/+37If your idea of entertainment is two guys rolling around wearing just their boxers, does it really make much difference if they're punching or kissing?
- bfogarty27, on 07/09/2009, -1/+33if only religions would stop being forced upon people at birth too :(
- Tanktunker, on 07/09/2009, -2/+33Neither Conservatives nor Christians are a race, your accusation are misplaced.
- boojoy, on 07/09/2009, -2/+32AARGHH I'M SOO MMMAAADDDDDDD!!! WHYY WON'T ANYONE LISTEN TO MEEE!!!!!
- hipnerd, on 07/09/2009, -2/+30Except he's consistently funny.
- rocknog, on 07/09/2009, -0/+28Hell, some of them are sadly my relatives. Honestly, I will never understand it. I mean, it doesn't affect them personally, but still they have this hatred. And it's not religion, because if it were simply a religious matter, well intellectually speaking, I could understand disapproval, but hating someone over it?
- Zarokima, on 07/09/2009, -0/+28I have lived in the south all my life. I was raised Southern Baptist. My family kept me highly active in church until I moved out. His comment about conservative Christians is correct.
Also, that's not even in the same field as racism. Racism is uncalled-for hatred based on something that a person has no control over (i.e. the color of their skin), where as religion is a choice. There's nothing wrong with hating hypocritical bigots with their heads stuck up their asses (my own family included). - pe7ra, on 07/09/2009, -5/+32Haigh Faive Yeis! Vereh naice!
- rabidjester, on 07/09/2009, -1/+27"...they say they were lured into a studio to talk about family values and instead were faced with BrĂ¼no talking about disowning his child if he turns out to be straight."
I officially must see this movie now. - Tanktunker, on 07/09/2009, -3/+27Be prepared for an entire half minute of his penis twirling and thrusting at the screen.
Roughly 25 of those seconds the penis occupies the entire screen. - amoro99, on 07/09/2009, -2/+25Same ***** would have happened in a redneck town in Massachussets, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, Wisconsin...
- eastwood24, on 07/09/2009, -3/+25Haha!!!, I'll be camping right near Fort Smith tomorrow. I'll have to make sure to post a sign or something saying congrats to the city for receiving international attention for their culture.
- Beatmiser, on 07/09/2009, -1/+22Oddly- because you left out the word 'one', I read it in Borat voice.
- Tanktunker, on 07/09/2009, -0/+20They slammed each other against the cage a few times then started kissing.
And there actually were strippers, female ones. - JFitzpatrick, on 07/09/2009, -0/+19Never? I find that so hard to believe I'm willing to flat out call you a liar.
There hasn't been a single trip I've taken to the south in over 20 years of traveling the US where I haven't been surprised by the behavior down there.
I don't doubt that there are backwards hill billies in northern states. I've certainly met them. But you know what I *haven't* encountered? Such completely accepted racist, sexist, and homophobic behavior. An example? I once went to buy my nephew a sling shot when I was down south. When I asked the stock boy if they had any more since the display was empty he yells across the sports department to the other guy working there, in front of all the customers, "HEY! We got any more ***** shooters in? The display is empty!"
So you say "Oh that's just some horribly racist guy!" except the other clerk yells back "***** shooters are on back order!" as casually as could be... and nobody in the whole area shopping, except for me, appeared to be at all incredulous that the conversation had just taken place.
Maybe everyone in the north is that racist and all these years they've just been keeping their god damn mouths shut. - JRowe3388, on 07/09/2009, -1/+19'Personally, my standards by which i measure other people's homophobia..'
"...provoked by those fairies."
Funny. That's kind of like saying, "I don't like racism, but I don't blame people for being racists. I mean, look at all the statistics of those ***** committing crimes!" - Tanktunker, on 07/09/2009, -0/+17Non-platonic.
- Derelict267, on 07/09/2009, -5/+22Why would you be angry? I'd think it would be ***** hilarious if they started making out in the middle of a fight.
- kbillar, on 07/10/2009, -1/+17I thought the same thing, if I was drunk and watching that, I would be laughing my ass off. I also would like to see the opposite situation. Like an art show being interupted by a bunch of drunk rednecks.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+16After your too drunk to notice, does it honestly matter what you're drinking?
- seventhc, on 07/09/2009, -0/+16I always thought that it should be fonix, Phonetically speaking of course.
- yan89, on 07/10/2009, -0/+16"Also, the fact that the participants were drunk as hell definitely alters their normal behavior"
Yeah, it shows their real opinions. - bmcnally, on 07/09/2009, -6/+21Did they ever do the fight (the entertainment)? I missed that in the article.
Also, I don't think anyone here has seen the movie, so commenting is a little hearsay at this point.
REGARDLESS, if you advertised something like "Strippers, $5 cover + $1 beer night" in any place and then boozed people up and gave them the opposite of strippers, I bet that you would get "homophobic" reactions almost anywhere - even in so-called tolerant communities. Not necessarily because they hate gays (though it might play a part), but because they just had a bait-and-switch pulled on them. - JRowe3388, on 07/09/2009, -0/+15You must be one of the lucky ones. I live in Eastern Kentucky and I've seen some pretty rage-inducing homophobia and racism.
- Yage2006, on 07/09/2009, -2/+17If i heard Tammy Wynette playing in any bar id be making a b-line to the door.
- bfogarty27, on 07/09/2009, -2/+17he probably thinks bruno is a real person
